Screen: Arc vs Optimus 2x/G2x - Xperia Arc General

As stated, this thread is purely about the display screen.
I previously had Optimus 2x before, and after dramas and adventures, purchasing an Xperia Arc/Arc S might be part of my plan soon.
Something from Optimus 2x that totally captivated me is its IPS Nova display. The colors are vibrant, power consumption is great, despite whatever other people say, the contrast is incredible, which even led me into believing that it was a Super AMOLED screen for a short while.
I know the reputation of Sony making decent display screens, but the TFT LCD just simply does not sound that attractive.
For those of you who had seen an Optimus 2x/G2x before, how do you think these two fare against each other in terms of screen display?
tl;dr: Optimus 2x/G2x and Arc/Arc S, whose screen is better?

IMO SONY's screen is better than LG's when you look straight on the phone without tilting it, BUT you're gonna be extremely disappointed with viewing angles on the arc.

I second this. The display quality is very good when looking at it directly but tilt it a bit and the contrast drops to ridiculously low levels. It's like Sony did wonders with a really crappy TN screen. You might also be disappointed with washed out dark tones but it's average for an LCD here I'd say.
If you believe that this phone packs great screen you will be disappointed. It's not bad, but it's not great by any means.

Times after times, I still don't really get why people care that much about viewing angle. It's a mobile device and could hold it however we want. Doesn't sound like a problem for me.
Thanks for the reply anyway.

I'm pretty sad to hear this, but thanks

I took a look at friend's LG Swift Black which is said to pack an IPS screen, better than 2X and I'd say the one on Xperia Arc is slightly better when looking at it directly. If you don't care about viewing angles I'd say it should be okay for you. It shouldn't bother you with anything other than the viewing angles. The colors are nice when looking at it directly.

Screen comparisons LCD/AMOLED/Super AMOLED

There is a comparison video of the X10, Desire, and Galaxy S posted on techblog.gr.
http://techblog.gr/techtv/samsung-galaxy-s-vs-htc-desire-vs-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-super-amoled-vs-amoled-vs-lcd-6854/
It really shows that the X10's screen is nothing to scoff at. Under normal viewing, it is not as vibrant or saturated at the others. However, the image quality is still there.
Under sunlight is where it really shines. My opinion is that it has the best sunlight visibility of the three.
In my opinion, the 2 others are way too colorsaturated.... Reminds me of when i saw TV at my grandparents. So much color, that the characters are almost glowing...

yes you are right seems like old tv with their strange colors .x10 also it is still limited to 65k colors ,its colors are real ,and after the update it will be much more better as the full 16 million colors, will be enabled ,so it is unfair to compare them now with 2.1 devices
I like the Galaxy S super AMOLED, but Desire's screen is so much less than everyone expected. So, Galaxy is a clear winner, and I'd have to place the X10 second.
Waiting to see what the situation will be after the UXP update...
The best screen is the Galaxy S, is significantly higher, although the X10 is not in the wrong place
The Galaxy S does indeed produce vibrant colors and deep blacks. It also increases sunlight visibility. I just don't like that these OLED screens trends to over saturate colors.
If you look at the video demo. The football players have glowing skintones. The drawback of the lcd screen is that it looks washed out at maximum brightness.
Just today I was admiring how easy it was to see the X10's screen in bright direct sunlight. I have never had a phone do that. Mind you, you can see the flicker of the screen when the sun is on it. Kinda weird looking....
I'm super happy with X10 display.
I watched a movie outside without problems.
Super AMOLED is probably better ... at least in terms of power consumption ...
Same for me, in the sun, I can see everything perfectly. They say SuperAMOLED uses 20% less battery than LCD though, which the X10 could really use haha..
Guys the x10 is perfect just think about somthing..... these Amoled and SuperAmoled screens have a big problem "Burn In" there is quite a few people complaining that their N1 have it after a month or so. And these displays tend to have a lot shorter life than Lcd's and i feel like the colors that they show are not right at all. Just think about it. Hmm chris is Bulgarian .. small world. Chris are you from Toronto by any chance maybe i know you lol.
Windsor, but I have a couple friends in Toronto lol..

What do you think of the screen?

I've got a Desire and had it since launch but today I bought a Desire HD. I like the phone and I like the bigger screen but I can't help but feel a bit disappointed going from AMOLED to LCD.... the colours... the viewing angles.... even considering sending the phone back and staying with the Desire although the phone seems much faster, I can't help but look at the screen and feel disappointed....
What do you guys think?

I can't really understand what's the point in having 180 degrees viewing angle on a phone. Like I would like to look at the USB port when using my phone . All the time you are using it, you are looking directly at it. And the colors are pretty much a matter of opinion - I've seen the Galaxy S screen and it seems over saturated to me. Daylight visibility is very good also. The one thing that is a real advantage of AMOLED over LCD screens is the black. Other than that there is no real reason for HTC to put themselves in the same PR nightmare as they did with Samsung's inability/unwillingness to provide them with enough screens for the Desire. Yesterday I put an invisible shield on my wife's iPhone 4 and looking at the acclaimed Retina Display the first thought that went through my head was "OMG, it's so small" . I wouldn't give up the DHD anytime soon and definately not because of its screen.
I'm perfectly happy with the screen, it is amazing. I don't care about viewing angles, it is not like I look at it from a 45 degree angle.. It's always pretty much 90 degrees.
As with others here I'm perfectly happy with the screen. Also as pointed out the only real plus of an AMOLED based display is the black level which, honestly, isn't that big of a deal for me. Viewing angles is something that always puzzles me. Do people often try to use their phone from obtuse angles? The only time I can think of when I've done this is a quick glance at the screen but since only the power button wakes it up I don't think that will be an issue.
I think you're over-obsessing over something that in real use is a non-issue. I'd really like all these people who complain about viewing angles to give some valid reasons why they think it's such a problem.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Im have no complaints what so ever with the screen. A week into the relationship with my DHD and we are still very much in the honeymoon phase.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I was the same... going from a Desire to the HD I was so disappointed with the 'washed out' appearance of the screen (I don't care so much about viewing angles)
But you know what... after a few days I really didn't notice it and I still have the Desire (awaiting eBay selling) and when I look at it I think the screen is too saturated!!
I miss the black levels a bit but on the whole I am more than happy with the screen colours now.
They are after all on a par with my laptop and netbook screens and I never complain about them!
This is part of a full review I will be posting on here once I have had a bit more time with the phone, any feedback would be appreciated. I'd like to answer any questions people have in the final review.
The screen.... the screen.... Seeing as the size of it dominates the entirety of the phone, this was always going to be an issue for many people! Before the phone was released I was actively following the LCD vs S-LCD debate and owning a Nexus One, had been treated to the 'contrastific' wonder that is AMOLED.
I'll be honest and say I felt panicked when confronted with the fact this maybe a regular TFT and not an S-LCD screen. Not an AMOLED or a SAMOLED in this day and age how dare they??! Considering Samsungs reluctance to part with the SAMOLED and the much reported worldwide shortage of AMOLED screens this was of no surprise and highly understandable.
Now I actually have the phone in my hand, I curse my stupidity in regards to getting caught up in 'the forum debate' and losing track on reality. As technophiles we all feel a twinge of excitement when quoting the relevant technology our handsets contain to our friends and fellow forum dwellers. I'm not discounting the real world benefits of such technology, but sometimes we tend to trust more in the branding terms than the actual real world performance.
After owning an AMOLED Nexus I cannot deny that the contrast levels are unbeatable (Samsung Galaxy S aside). Watching movies on the screen was a joy, especially in dark scenes when the black levels came through in all their glory. Personally, I liked the colour saturation (or over-saturation) which gave the display an eye grabbing brilliance which even next to the iPhone 4's lauded Retina Display (nice branding for what is simply a high res IPS LCD) it managed to hold it's head high.
When switching on the Desire HD after coming from a Nexus, the feeling compares to taking off your shades after a long day in the sun. The colours are not quite the same, the brightness has shifted and you find yourself blinking rapidly as your eyes slowly adjust to what is a different experience. Now to say this is a sub par experience is completely unfounded. Yes some people will instantly wonder whether their phone is functioning correctly, or take a swift trip down to the Opticians questioning their vision. They will finally end up cursing the lack of AMOLED on Xda-Developers, stating washed out colours and poor viewing angles (those who look at there phone sideways all day).
All I can say in response is that while coming from an AMOLED to the Desire HD is like taking off your shades, there are always those who keep their shades on all day long, even in the dark .
As my eyes adjusted to the screen I started to understand what the term 'over-saturated' actually meant! I wanted to apologise to my Iris, Cornea and Retina all at one time. The colours aren't washed out, it's just my eyes were over washed with a false spectrum for so long. The main benefits for this are seen when browsing the web and looking at images, they look REAL. I actually feel as if i'm seeing something in front of me and not looking at a phone screen. The only sadness I feel is when watching videos, it just doesn't look as VIVID, not to say it doesn't look good, but I guess those juicy blacks will definitely be missed.
Another thing is slowly dawning on me, PenTile displays are horrendous. I was duly concerned that having the same resolution on a 35% larger screen would mean the subsequent pixellation would have me screaming for Cupertino's Retina Display to come and save me (sickening thought). Strangely enough it actually feels as though the resoultion is higher. I remembered reading about the Nexus One screen here and feeling it was unfair attack (BTW anyone on here that doesn't read ArsTechnica, bookmark it now). The premise was that the subpixel arrangement on AMOLED screens (Even the SGS has this) meant the effective resolution was less than the 480x800 claimed and more like 392x653, something I now accept to be correct. Comparing the screens side by side it becomes all the more apparent that the resolution cannot be the same, as some images appear sharper on the larger screen which doesn't make logical sense. It is safe to say that for once I agree with Apple and their decision to keep away from AMOLED when many fanboys were demanding it after the 3GS.
Finally, the superior colour depth of the screen has slowly come to the fore. I've read conflicting reports of Nexus creen having 16m vs 65k colours and of being 16bit (Link). I can refer back to one of my earlier statements about technical branding vs reality. Whatever the specs of the Nexus One/Desire screen it falls flat on colour depth compared to the Desire HD. Backgrounds which previously suffered from banding are now brilliant and even the XDA app startup splash, which had serious banding issues on the Nexus now displays colours which weren't even visible before.
Overall, once over the adjustment period, the DHD screen trumps that of the Nexus or Desire and is simply stunning. The size alone renders many of the arguments pointless. I hold my Nexus now and have the same feeling as when I first held the X10 Mini, I feel as though my phone could eat it for breakfast the cute little thing it is. Don't fear the negative comments on here, see it for yourself and if you don't like it, you don't like it.
I certainly do.
Regards.
Some final thoughts....
Did somebody say fully multitouch??
TFT LCD vs S-LCD?? Just in case this is a TFT
HD2 (TFT LCD) Review Endgadget - In terms of colour and contrast, the HD2's screen is a champion. Images and video looked saturated but not drenched, and blacks seemed superbly deep to us.
HD2 (TFT LCD) Review Gizmodo - The 4.3-inch glass display is pure bliss
Comparison Image, Sorry for the poor quality!
very nice analysis of the screens lynx! Im looking forward to your full review! btw i really love the setup you have on your phone in that pic. Stock android looking with HTC's nice clock widget..
Thanks, it's Launcher Pro set up like the stock launcher with the original Fancy Widget. Add the 'Faux Sense' widgets and animations then you're good to go. Regarding the comparison picture, it may seem like the Nexus has more colour but it is simply the unnatural colours that make it seem that way. The DHD image is so real you feel you could pick up a pebble!

I totally agree.
All these comparisons about viewing angles, Touch response when doing swipes in slow-motion is so damn silly.
Way in the world would you like to be able to look at it from an extreme angles anyway?
Use the phone! I say it again: USE the phone!
If you like it keep it, otherwise sell it.
I get the impression that many people here are buying a phone just to impress their neighbour with the best spec-sheet. And then they get "sad like children loosing their favourite toy" when they can't. So damn silly!

Anyone else underwhelmed by the screen?

Got my phone a few hours ago. Speed is really nice, battery already looks to be as impressive as I thought it would be (2.5 hours of playing with it continually and it hasn't budged), and it overall just feels like a well constructed quality device.
The screen however is another thing. The biggest problem is the colors are washed out, and the contrast seems to be pretty bad too. Going to play with a store demo tomorrow, hopefully I just got a bum one, but I'm getting the feeling after stuffing everything else in there they decided a to cut costs with a low quality lcd.
Really its qhd or super amoled? I wanna buy one but needs to match or be better then my nexus s screen.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The resolution is qhd, 960x540, which is nice, you get used to having the extra resolution real quick. The panel however is just a regular lcd, not amoled.

The qHD screen looked really damn good from the demo I saw in the store. I put it up against my IP4 screen, which was admittedly a little better (crisper and a little brighter), but the Atrix screen easily takes a close second from any device I've seen so far.
The color of screen is a huge disappointment to me.
Yeah people are saying you can't expect the vividness of the captivate. That's obvious, they're completely different kinds of screen the atrix's screen was never going to be as vivid. I'd just like the colors to actually be the correct shade, yellow is especially bad.
I turned auto brightness off and jacked it up to about 50%, helped the colors, but doing that really makes the pentile "matrix" show up.
I think the screen is pretty damn good.
The captivates S AMOLED is overaaturated compared to the LCD screen of the Atrix. qHD is just a higher resolution screen.
I have the captivate, my room mate just got the Atrix. I too am extremely disappointed in the screen quality. Still, everything else about the phone is great so far.
The screen is akin to the droidX screen which is terribly washed out and unsaturated. I doubt I'll ever have a display as nice as the super amoled for a long time since I don't like samsung. their stuff is all cheap feeling
First of all samsung is a pretty well regarded company in terms of overall quality of their hardware. Secondly, any sort of oled display will oversaturate colors, and you have become used to that. Any photoeditor/photographer will tell you that between the 2 displays, the Atrix will produce to most accurate color reproduction.
I have a Nexus One, S, and Atrix 4g that came in today.
Side by side, the Atrix's screen leaves a lot to be desired IMO. My Nexus S screen's black are so much crisper on the same settings and same extra wallpaper with flat black.
Other than that, my Nexus S just simply looks sexier as a phone but I am really enjoying the functionality of my Atrix. Sticking with Atrix since I'm stuck on ATT unless an ATT Nexus S comes out.
This is very, very disappointing news. I really wanted this phone but not if it has a sub-par screen. That's the most impressive thing about my SGS. It's the one thing Samsung got absolutely right. And I'm not willing to settle for less. Some say the colours are over saturated but I would take it's screen every single time over the IP4's. And considering the SGS2 is coming with an ever better screen... Well, it's beginning to look like those bastards are getting my money again.
Depressing.
This is very bad news to hear, I was really looking forward to yhis phone, but im too used to amoled screen, moto has to come up with sumthing similar
Screen brightness/contrast is one thing (amoled vs lcd)
resolution is another... 800x480 is overplayed and ugly, nothing has challenged the iphones retina yet
The atrix is a first in higher resolution, and I think thats a winner for me
This comes down to personal preference. The atrix screen to me is far better than the captivate and nexus simply because it doesnt exaggerate colors. I cant stand the over saturation on the SMOLED screens. Its literally brutal to look at.
the screen is not bad at all, you people are exaggerating
the camera on the other hand is kinda ... meh ....

Would love for the sgs2 to have a higher res though.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Sitting next to my Captivate, the blacks look washed out, but text looks way better. The higher res is nice and Im willing to give up the darker blacks.
Not to mention that my GPS locks in under 5 seconds and I didnt have a reboot yet.
Once you fully switch over and use the Atrix a bit, you wont notice the black level.

Xperia SP with a unbelievably "white-washed" display

Just bought the Xperia a few days ago and been playing around with it ever since. by end of the Day One, I find the overly whitish brightness increasingly annoying. and the more I compare them with the display in other phones, the more I find it unbelievable that Sony would be incapable of incorporating a better display into this phone. In fact, after having personal first-hand user experience with the phone, and making repeated visit to the Sony Centre with its full range of Xperia smartphones on display, and comparing the SP with the displays on other models, I found that Sony phones general has that whitish overexposed element which are not present in smartphones from other brands, HTC, Samsung. Heck, even a ACER and LENOVO phones has better display in term of its viewing angles and in showing white colour. Displaying black is acceptable but the moment there is any bright colour, all hell break loose with the display, with pictures and graphics looking like they have been photoshopped and tweaked to the maximum brightness. I find this totally unacceptable and I am putting the phone on garage sale forum already, which is rather unfortunate, because other than the display, I am very fond of the phone's design, material and the general simplicity of Xperia interface.
It is a complete mystery why nobody and none of the reviews make a bigger issue about gross inadequacy. it is utterly terrible. I am sure I am not the one only here who noticed this. can any members here share your views on this ?
Lol... I've had many android devices and I always prefer the whites on the Sony devices because they're the ones that actually look whiter while other devices have whites that are way too warm and ruin many pictures... Don't understand your complaint...

you have no idea what I am talking about. the white balance is already at its lowest possible setting. adjusting anymore will only change the tint effect and not the brightness. it is not just whiter. it looks OVER-EXPOSED. do you even know what an overexposed pictures taken by a camera look like ?
when a colour that is supposed to look red started to look like pink from certain angle, it is just pure, unaduterated, lame display.

The screen hasn't got the best viewing angles, I agree. I also find the gamma curve is biased towards showing a lot of definition in darker tones, which leads to the impression of reduced contrast - ie: dark tones don't look dark enough until they're near to black.
Those criticims aside I find the screen very good quality. I'm glad I don't have to live with Samsung's "technicolor" OLED screen where everything's pumped up.
Also, turn off BE2 if you want natural colurs and contrast.

Perhaps next time, make your comparisons before purchasing your phone.
Secondly, all this talk of viewing angles, now, forgive me for being a little simplistic here, but, as a general rule, I, and probably many others, tend to hold my phone pretty much parallel to my eyes, why anyone would want to look at their phone at any angle other than say 30 odd degrees to this is completely beyond me!???

After reading the replies, I noticed the difference in quality is there but apparently, some people doesn't find that it is a big issue, which is a complete mystery to me. one good example is this kind of comment, which make absolutely no sense in how one justify and defending an obvious fundamental flaw. "as a general rule", people nowadays do put their phones on the tables and turn their sight to somewhere else and then glance at its side from the sight. the same goes for the tablets. maybe, you hold and look at your phone right in front of you day and night, but if you don;t know single person who doesn't do that all the time and expect to be able to see the same colour and contrast when you are viewing your phone when they are lying on the table, then the problem lies with you. seriously, even if you hold the phone directly in front of the eyes, the ****ty quality of the display is so significant, it just boggle my mind why so many people wanna defend the indefensible ? the inferiority in comparision to the display in other phones are clear and present, why would you or anyone allow a phonemaker to give you a display that has brightness that give you a completely washed-out effect, when the display on even a China no-name brand doesnt ? just because you grew up with a Sony Ericsson phone and has a soft spot for it ?

that is not an option. i chose Xperia SP because of the size, which is just right for mobility and convenience sake. Xperia Z1 is too big and Z Ultra is just ridiculous. it is a mini tablet, not a phone. and since you brought this up, this is what irks me the most. these two upper-end models are the one only with a display that has the natural brightness and colour seen in phone from Samsung Galaxy, HTC etc but their screen display are consistent across the entire range from budget to upper-end. mind you, this "Triluminous Display and X-Reality" doesn't really offer anything new or fancy, it is just a fancy term of Sony to integrate something into its phone display to make them look comparable to phones from other brands, something they should have included in its range of phones to begin with. I highly suspect that Sony deliberately skim on the quality of the display for this Xperia SP in exchange of giving you a mid-ranged 4G LTE phone with Adreno 320.

no one should apologise for thrashing Xperia SP. dont even get me started on the insensitive touchscreen AND the totally unbelievably weak WIFI reception. I am talking about a wifi connection that I have been using for years in my house, and is being used and detected now by other Samsung, Iphones, tablets, notebooks in the house now. nine out of ten times, the Xperia SP is unable to detect, latch on and then subsequently connect to the WIFI signal after I went outside and returned home. this has never happen to any of the devices we used in the house before, except when the device is faulty to begin with.

that is not an option. i chose Xperia SP because of the size, which is just right for mobility and convenience sake.

All i meant to say was that, if you stick to Sony, then right now only these two offer the good displays with good viewing angles..besides the honami mini will also be released and that just might be the perfect phone for you. SP has great hardware and software and really at this price range, a phone cannot get any better . It's a high end phone with mid range price. I personally prefer phones with viewing angles like SP because it's more private. Or else people can read anything or see anything from anywhere -_- again, that's just my opinion. My idea is to switch to a Z1 mini when it comes out. The quality of the display is something i need, and viewing angles is just a plus point to me. I really don't care much if the viewing angles are good or bad as i do always use my phone at parallel eye level
And trust me, i know the difference in display as i myself come from an Htc One X which has awesome viewing angles but sadly this phone has far better battery, speed and gaming performance than One X

I think the display is fine myself. Samsung displays, in. My opinion, are bloody awful, yes, you might be able to see it from pretty much perpendicular to your eyes, but the dreadfully oversaturated colours are terrible. Add to that the phone isn't that good looking (again, my opinion) and the people I know that have got one have both complained about poor build quality (chrome bezel peeling off) and rubbish battery life, and Samsung STILL insist on putting the back and multitask button s the wrong way round!

incidentally, I happen to remember looking closely at the Xperia Z in the Sony Centre and still remember its display screen as having a certain whitish element not present in other phone. and its comparatively inferior constrast ratio is more or less corroborated by some reviews, including this one http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z-review-887.php
Main disadvantage
Low contrast display with below-par viewing angles
Non user-replaceable battery
13MP camera hardly any better than some competitors' 8MP units
Feeble loudspeaker
More disturbingly, the display has rather poor contrast for a flagship unit and not really inspiring colors. As testified by the measurements in our dedicated test it comes nowhere near the standard of its main competitors and it even fared worse than its predecessor.

I guess I will stay away from Sony Xperia phones until they completely overhauled its display technology. It is a pity, as I generally prefer the the simple elegance of Sony Xperia's phone design.

I will accept it once I have seen it. as far as I am concerned, it is the dark ages if Sony only use its upgraded display tech on its high-end phones and skim on them on its mid to low-range phones. if Samsung and HTC can do it with across its range of phones, there is absolutely no reason for Sony to be unable to do it.

I don't have any problem with my phone. .245 update solved the random touch bug and wifi for me, and I think the screen is pretty good, although kind of reflective.
You might want to have your phone checked. My display is made by JDC.
I have Samsung phones, so I know what amoled looks like. LCD displays are sharper, but amoleds have better contrast.

Before SP I had Xperia J (changed it because it was too slow for me) and the display of the J (lower resolution thou) have better black contrast and it is better looking.
The XSP display have really washed out colors like the Nexus 7 (2012) have and on the SP I think they are even worse.
I have made this test: made a screenshot of my phone desktop and then saw the picture in the album - when the Bravia ENGINE optimized the picture - it looked far better.
Is there a way to make Bravia ENGINE work all the time in real time ?

LG G6 screen vs amoled: are you happy? I'm disappointed...

Hi everyone...
my operator just offered a limited-time rebate, that lowers G6 cost to just 310 EUR, so i decided to seriously consider it as my Note 4 is on its last legs with its snail-speed EMMC memory which is also a time bomb as it can fail at any moment.
LG G6 is one of the few phones (apart from the Sharp Aquos or Xiaomi Mi Mix) that i actually like...
so i went to a huge department store to test it in real life... and was very disappointed, as the screen looks dull, and text clarity is mediocre. Websites like Android Authority (with gray text) look mediocre too.. Also the store (mediamarkt) was very well lit with lamps, and raising the brightness to max level only made the brightness good enough... well, comparing the LG G6 screen with my note 4 side by side was upsetting, it looked somewhat grayish, and would be clearly a downgrade. The key thing is that it is not crisp.
In the same store were also samsung and huawei demo zones. I understand that LG G6 and Huawei phones have IPS screens... The phone (screen) that I liked very much turned out to be Huawei Mate 9. Huawei P10 was also nice, but Mate 9 screen was the best imho. Unfortunately i recommended a huawei phone to muy friend (it was Huawei Note 8) and now he has tremendous communication delays, whatsapps get delivered sometimes hours later (here users complain about the same problem), so Huawei unfortunately is not an option for me. I was really hoping LG G6 would do, especially at a very decent price of 310 EUR.
I thought maybe it was a defective unit... so i went to another department store nearby that was less lit and also had LG G6 demo zone. It actually had several G6s and they all had that mediocre screens...
Finally i'm afraid i will have to skip that 310 EUR offer which is a pity, i'd love to have a more snappy phone... And in general G6 is very compact and nice...
Wondering what are your impressions from LG G6 screen? I've looked though these forums and see that most people rave about it, which is astonishing. Am i too critical?
I have the (Korean?) H870DS 64GB, Quad DAC version and I am extremely happy with the screen. AMOLED screens may have vibrant colours and black-black, but the colours just don't look natural.
LG G6 has one of the best screens out there, it's got HDR10 display certified too that it almost matches the very best displays like the Galaxy S8, where as IPS Quantum Display in the LG is better than AMOLED is the oranges you see on the AMOLED appear very red , AMOLED are being notorious for over-saturation and longer image retention (screen burn in might be permanent in AMOLED where as IPS the burn in is temporary) LG IPS Quantum Display has excellent whites and more natural colours.
If you are used to seeing life through an over-saturated screen then accurate RGB will seem subdued.
However go into settings on your Note 4 and turn display mode to BASIC and you will see RGB mode on Samsung panels looks very different. Now compare to the G6 ...
Remember Display Mate rate Samsung panels highly based on the 'basic' mode due to colour accuracy and not on Adaptive Display mode they ship with as default.
However if you are fan of the boosted colours then likely only another over saturated AMOLED panel will appease and therefore the G6 isn't for you.

I am happy with the change i have come from an s8 with the screen i have had all the s range all the note range bar the 5 as was not out in the uk and there is not really that much difference part from blacks look really black on samsung phones my whites look white on my g6 unlike my s8 they looked pink/ red if you are not picking you will find faults and the lg ui is more fluid and faster than my s8 not had one bit of stutter or lag on my g6 but had fair bot on s8
No complaints about the G6 screen. This was my first LCD phone is many years (previously S6, S4, S3, and Note 2; plus Galaxy Tab S), so was worried about switching to the G6's LCD. I see the differences when I compare side-by-side, but I don't notice the difference when I use the G6 by itself.
The Huawei you saw at the store might be set to demo/display mode (like TVs) that maximizes brightness and color to levels you probably wouldn't use.
Yes it does have the hdr 10 thing but there is other phones having it but what the lg g6 is the only phone certifed for , is the dolby vision nd it s the only phone till now it does take the hdr thing to another level
No complaints with the screen here, seems just as crisp as my Galaxy S6, with the added benefit of no screen burn. Very happy.

It's more of a personal choice. I find benefits in both superAmoled, and IPS panels. For me, Amoled is better for long time reading, mostly because of true blacks and less backlight emitition (as I use with my tab s3) while for more realistic colors and specially true white, I prefer my G6. It has probably the best IPS panel I've seen by far.
Unrelated, but somehow related to screen experience, my s7 was a fingerprint magnet. G6 oleophobic coating seems to be much better! (At least after a few weeks)

As with most tv content HDR is useless and really really useless during the daytime. This coming from a guy who invested $5k last year on 4k tv and playable equipment. From xbox 1 S. Amazing OLED LG 65" and samsung hdr 4k player
Does anyone use this? It's kinda cool I use it to get a better contrast ratio. Since we don't get screen modes like Samsung does. Been doing it since my g3
Sad ? First of all you should know the difference between amoled and LCD .
An amoled while delivers punchy vibrant colors is actually unreal or artificial colors.
LCD is not punchy but produce Real life colors almost.
Red is red and blue is blue .
Gotta doubt ? Try taking pics of some fruits mixed together and compare them in 2k amoled and 2k LCD.
And for original clarity of display the display brightness should be around 50%.

I have the oneplus 3t and purchased a G6 from eglobal. Excellent service and price. I must say I was also disappointed with the G6 screen the whites are so cool they look blue. I tried changing the colour temperature in the visual settings but couldn't find any srgb mode like I have on the 3t. Brightness is also not great. I sold it on as for me the lcd was just not very nice to look at which is a shame tbh. Hoping the v30 will use a better screen.
Coming from S7 Edge, I must say the LG G6 screen is quite poor ( I still have the S7E). People here bragging about it being an LCD display, true color renditions, and HDR, doesn't know enough to judge the displays. Well, I have a Mi 5 and also compared the iPhone 7 display to the LG 6 ( Both Mi 5 and iPhone 7 has LCD displays) and unfortunately, g6's display was not impressive at all. Not deep enough blacks ( Again comparing only to other LCD's and not to an AMOLED screen), not bright enough(Even indoors, I keep it around 60 plus percent for a satisfactory brightness), not sharp enough ( The text looks pale and not so sharp) and the viewing angles are terrible. I am of course not in any way expecting the G6 to compete with the Samsung AMOLED displays, but G6 being 2017 flagship from LG, should be good enough to compete with at least the Xiaomi Mi 5 if not an iPhone 7.
I bought it for a few reasons,
1) Design and look ( Looks pretty sleek and neat)
2) Got it for a really cheap deal
3) Love the wide angle camera
I had a really tough time maintaining my S7E. It does not have a proper tempered glass due to its edge display and that's the main reason I wanted to switch to another phone so that I can avoid the head ache of changing the tempered glass every month and also my S7E display cracked even with a tempered glass on ( Though it's pretty usable and used it in that same condition for about 6 months). So thought it's not worth getting the display replaced as it seems too fragile and I did not find any other phone to switch to(Not a fan of iPhones), so have temporarily switched to the G6. I think I will switch to Pixel 2 as soon as its launched ( Hate the present pixel for those ugly big chins)
So yeah the G6 display is a very mediocre and definitely not something you should buy the phone for.

Well this is a stupid assumption because me for example, reviews Monitors for Companies like Yamakasi, Catleap, Samsung, Dell. I had around 15 different Monitors in the last four years (21:9,4K,WQHD,IPS,TN,244 Hz,3D,PLS,G-Sync,Freesync, pretty much everything). And i can tell you from a standpoint where facts matter, the Amoled Smartphone displays are total crap. Amoled has nicer blacks because it doesn't require to power black pixels, in other words, black means off. But the over saturation is completely unrealistic and extremely annoying when taking pictures on your Smartphone and then transfering them to your PC suddenly noticing the Image is way less colorfull and saturated on a Eizo calibrated Eizo Foris. This is nuts. And if you find IPS Panels White color too cool, then you must know that Witebalance is increased with brightness. Whites may look whiter, but if you over expose greys become white too, thats why IPS displays look a bit cooler, because otherwise you would have a solid block of white instead of a nice dynamic range.
Im coming from a Galaxy Note 4 and, guys. This Display is so much better for people who actually want realistic colors and know how to use the camera properly. (eg. Tech Guys). I know many people want extreme Bass on their Headphones or over saturated displays, but it doesn't change the fact that you are loosing details or faking the output. Its simply unpleasant to the eye to have such a big amount of saturation where in reality everything looks much more natural. This stuff was cool when i was 14. Nowadays i want to reproduce everything 1:1, no matter if its Sound Quality or Display color. Professionals are much better off with the G6.

Serious the display is not good. The whites are so blue. Lets not turn this into amoled vs lcd because we all know LG, Apple/Sharp will be using Amoled in the future not lcd.
Just pick up an iPhone and compare the G6 screen and that will show how poor it is. Just hope v30 will be better.
I'm disappointed in Samsung crappy Amoled panels. My first S8+ had severly brighter upper half than bottom when viewing dark content. My second unit has white balance shift on the bottom part. Red left side green right side. I can never ever get a good Samsung panel. With the S7+ I switched phones 4 times and never got a good screen. Also Amoled whites suck it's not white like LCD. I ****ing give up on Sammy phones forever now I enjoy my G6 LCD so much more it has punch to its white and not these quality issues Samsung always has had.

Did you even read my complete post? My god, how you just want to jump all over and prove me wrong. Please read my complete post if you haven't already. I clearly said i am not comparing the G6's display to the AMOLED ones and i am a professional photographer myself and i know what it means to have a display that can render true colors. But i clearly mentioned that, when i compared this display with the Mi 5, iPhone7 and I even compared it to the Mi 6 today which all have LCD displays and not AMOLED, and unfortunately, they all render better colors ( Of course true colors), they look sharper ( In fact all those phones i mentioned doesnt even have a QHD display, they are all full HD) and over all more impressive. I am not here to win an argument, i am simply stating the facts. being a G6 owner my self, i have no reasons to prove anything against it, unless it is really true.
It really strikes me how display quality perception differs among individuals.
I'm in the process of choosing my next smartphone and, being picky on display quality, I read a lot of posts and reviews putting attention to the display topic.
Well, someone says LG G6 is an excellent display, with good luminosity, well calibrated colors and deep blacks (second only to HTC U Ultra, which looks to have one of the best LCD displays to date).
Someone else, the minority in my reading actually, are not happy and say that blacks quickly turn to grays even at little angles.
Obviously I'm puzzled, and now my only hope is that a store near me will receive a G6 soon, so I'll be able to check it out first hand.
Oneplus 3t in maximum brightness and lg g6 in maximum brightness which is brighter and better to read in the sun? I miss my oneplus two because it was mich better to read
