Retitons talk... - EVO 4G General

So i just talked to a guy from retentions and asked some questions i needed answered. For people wondering if the early upgrade is not available.. The answer is No the early upgrade is still available. The next question was the status on the HTC evo lte. When will it be here? Answer was not sure but they are expediting this issue, and it seems very smooth.. For people that didn't pre-order, I asked will they get a chance to get a evo lte? Answer is yes, he said they will most likely have extra ones, so don't get your hopes up if you didn't pre-order one! Also there will be voice updates, and upgrades, with better 3g speeds in the denver Area in about 4 months. No clue when LTE will be up and running.

Hey I'm in Denver too, and I'm patiently waiting for the lte
"We're coming from a pure power source."

One more thing I forgot to mention is evo buyback is 78 dollars

4G in Detroit

Well I just chatted with a sprint rep about when 4G is coming to Detroit. Whether this rep is reliable or not, I'm not sure, but I am trying to find out anything I can. So here is what she told me:
Agent (Daisy D.): "I have checked and found that now 4 G is not available at Detroit but it will be available very soon."
Me: "do you know how soon"
Me: "like by the end of 2010?"
Agent (Daisy D.): "The confirmation like this is not available with us but whenever it will launched it will be notified on the sprint website. So please refer our website for latest updates."
Agent (Daisy D.): "I hope you understand this."
Me: "when you say it will be available very soon how do you know that if it doesn't tell you when it will be launched"
Agent (Daisy D.): "The launch date is not yet confirmed but the work is on progress so it will be launch very soon."
So whether we all should believe this or not, i dont know but I sure hope she is telling me the truth. I am getting very antsy and want some 4G. I am tempted to drive out to Grand Rapids one day just use 4G on my evo.
I have heard that we should have 4G by the end of December.
That would be a great christmas present now wouldn't it?
It would be nice, but I really don't know how much I'd use it. Considering 3g speeds aren't that bad around here, WiFi is everywhere, and 4G is a battery hog. I am anxious to try it out though.

Yea I will probably never use 4G but I just want to use it since my EVO is capable of doing it lol

you are 100% correct. its already been stated LA is getting it December 1st and the bay area mid december. other then that nothing has been annouced. if detroit was going to be official by end of year it more then likely wouldve been annouced with those.
The probably just started working on rolling out 4G in detroit so I'm guessing February or March of 2011 for us in detroit
Okay, that is a standard marketing speech to make you happy. Do the coverage map.. it says the same thing. Anytime they don't offer service they say it will be available soon. Until you get a actual release date don't get your hopes up.
Alright just chatted with another sprint rep and he informed me that the last rep I spoke to misstated her comment. By it being in progress, he said she meant that as a nationwide rollout, not just for detroit. Not surprised though so it isn't a let down for me

I was thinking the same thing. I'm pretty surprised at how well 3g works in this area and in fact continue to use it even when a wifi AP is "available". ( ::coughBordersBookscough:: )
Unless 4g is really sooo much better, I'm really not chomping at the bit for it to get here.

All you people who keep saying its not that important are trippin. Its like being on wifi all the time, and wifi is definitely better then 3g. When you watch YouTube it doesn't start high quality and instantly on 3g but it does on 4g. They are not to be compared and many people are making that comparison in this thread

There is one tiny little area in chesterfield that you can grab 4g at times. Ive talked with one sprint rep and have been "unofficially" told there are a couple test areas up but they are hit and miss whether you will connect to them on a continuous basis. From what Ive heard from multiple reps, Verizon will have it here in Detroit before Sprint and we may very well not get it before next summer. Someone needs to figure out how to tap into MetroPCS' 4G towers.
As for the Lions playoffs vs 4G Detroit....My monies on the Apocalypse happening before either of those 2

Based on the conversations shown here, I'd be turning on my 4g anytime I'm near Detroit, seeing if anything is picked up...
Swyped from my Fresh EVO via XDA App

Good Bye S(n)exus One.

Please forgive me if im in the wrong category. It said 'general' so I figured.
So today I found out my dad will be switching us from Tmobile to Sprint. I was sad to hear that my Nexus One will no longer be my best friend, instead my dad chose to pick up the Epic 4g. We will be switching this Friday. I was a little upset because of the large rumored release of the Nexus S. And the fact that the Epic, according to the sprint Rep, was on 2.1 unlike my current 2.2.1 nexus.he said it will be updated around the holidays. I asked him if the updates will continue without being held back by the carrier, he said yes and that sprint hasn't held anything back yet. I was unsure if this was true or not, my dad gave me hardly anytime to do more research on sprint and their phones so I went off of things I already knew.
The Rep was nice, spoke to him over the phone, while my dad and brother were at the sprint store with him.
I don't think he could comprehend how a 16yo could know so much I asked him if we had 4g in south Carolina and he answered no. I asked an estimate of how long it will be until we get 4g he said 6 months. So that's $60 I will be paying for nothing. (Mandatory 10$ for 4g speeds). I also mentioned my custom roms and root, which he knew about but seemed confused when I ventured further into the topic ( I get excited when talking about Technology and tend to go overboard.) Anyways his main sale tactic was:
"you will get unlimited talk, text, web. isn't that cool?"
I'm upset that my phone will be "with Google" instead of "BY GOOGLE"
anyways I just felt like someone should know because I'm honestly sad to leave my nexus. And I treat it like my best friend. Sorry if you wasted time reading this.
If you have any advice about sprint, or the epic 4g. (I will begin looking at the epic forum soon) or anything else you want to add, please do.
I warned my dad if there is a set and confirmed release date for the rumored Nexus S and its on GSM. I will pounce on it like a cat.
Goodbye Nexus One. I had a good time with you. Your 1ghz snap dragon is great, you never lag, but I must move onto a faster hummingbird processor and 4g speeds. I will never sell you. And I will most likely buy a 'pay as you go plan' so I can still update your ROMS, and use you.
Love Branden
(God Im pathetic...)
Again sorry if you wasted time reading this.

The good news is Samsung will probably follow the same sales approach with the Nexus S (and/or Galaxy S2) as they did for the Galaxy S, as in slang it all over the world on every carrier possible. There may be light at the end of the tunnel.
ya the word is it may be available for multiple carriers so u may be safe. But you could of gotten the Evo since it is supported by several devs, even Cyanogen

Haven't seen or heard that at all. The only FCC filing, currently, is for TMO frequencies.
i know how u feel about ur nexus cuz i am a same and it's bad decision to move from tmo to sprint , sprint toooo expensive, but Google will not be slow, they will make nexus s for sprint, this what i am thinking and hoping to be true
I didn't want to move from Atmosphere, my Dads decision, but he doesn't listen. And the evo was my other choice

I'm currently on Sprint with a EVO 4G. With CM it comes pretty close to the Nexus One experience wise but sans the trackball and with a more satisfying size IMO.
That said, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a WiMax capable Nexus S on Sprint a month or three after. They already did it with the SGS/Epic 4G so you never know.

You should have 30 days to switch to other phones if you don't like the epic, my friend just got an evo and it's sick! If this happened to me,i would go for that instead, htc is way better than samsung with updates and rooting, plus touchwiz is kind of cheesy. Hope this helps, and enjoy any new phone you get.
I agree touchwiz is. And the guy seemed quite adament that it will be updated constantly, I know were getting the Epic for 99$ with 2yr contract
Anyone know the price of the Evo? If not I'll check online .

You should carry around your Nexus One and just use your Epic to tether your Nexus for data
Evo=CM6
Sgs =No CM6 EPIC FAIL

Evo FTW.....
The Epic is... epic. It's an amazing phone in terms of hardware, root it and wait for CyanogenMod to come out for it.
What is with your carriers. I think it is terrible that they do not work around a standard like 900/2100 GSM.

wow! one year with sprint! :)

so I log in to check my bill at sprint.com, wanted to browse as i am looking for another phone to play with.. LOl
it's been a year, got my deposit back! wahoot!
seeing a little credit in there is nice, I have to say form all the stories i have heard about sprint being on these boards for almost a year, I have had a pleasurable experience with them, the financing department is first class, had some billing issues with them and they were as pleasant as can be. I do feel their service can be better in their stores, as My trusty evo's charging port let go back in november, and i had some rough spots tryin to get sprint to help me, so i went to htc and they resolved my issue no problems, so in a nutshell i am a happy customer!
now, do i want a design4g, epic4g touch, or photon4g? LOL
Totally agree with you. I have had a very pleasant experience with Sprint as well. Had a couple small billing issues that were fixed very quickly and drop less calls now than with Verizon. I used Verizon for 9 years but the cost was getting out of control. So far over the last 20 months, I have saved $2256 by switching. Total win
Sprint is great for the price. Just wait til network vision rolls out and coverage increases.

Grats! I remember when I got my deposit back...was stoked to have 2 free months of service basically. As far as upgrading your phone I would hold off on that. I just recently purchased the EVO 4G because I really wasn't too impressed with the newer phones. Granted they are better than the EVO but just slightly which to me isn't worth either the upgrade credit or the extra cash. Wait for some more ICS phones and then upgrade....i'm betting Samsung and HTC will come out with something great.

Brad, I would wait until MWC. I am having the same debate, I am going to wait for my 2 years to officially upgrade but if I get the chance to try a different handset I will. My wife needs a replacement EVO but I am kind of hoping they wont have one and we will have to get something else... we will see. But HTC is going to be launching something BIG this year!
I'm waiting it out too. Galaxy Nexus, sure it has LTE but it is last year's technology. I have very high hopes for MWC and shall be revealed there.
Out of Design, Photon, or Epic Touch?
Design has basically no development community. Smaller screen, and single core just doesn't cut it for me.
Photon has Motoblur and it is a worldphone, if you're into that kind of thing. It has a small but quality development community, jokersax has put out some good stuff for them. Unlocking the bootloader borks 4G. You can relock to fix 4G, and you can't relock with custom kernels.
Epic Touch used to have Loss of Signal, which was an absolute pain. It is pretty much gone now. Took a while to get AOSP on it, but they have accomplished. They have the strongest development community out of the three. I think it is BML but I'm not sure. If it is, hopefully they will be able to convert it to MTD sometime in the near future.
OR wait
i can never wait for my upgrade i have about 4 months til my contract is up ... sadly i maybe switching to the evil empire (at&t) :/

Have you considered calling them and letting them know that you have no service at your house. I was having the same problem as I live in a small town in southern california and they sent me a free airave. Granted its not the best solution in the world but it will provide you with coverage in your home as long as you have high speed internet.
I've had a few minor ups and down with Sprint as far as billing went, but next to nil issues with repairs or phone service. I wish it was my first year again. I've been with Sprint for close to a decade now.
As far as a new phone goes, I'm with one of the previous posters. There's yet to been a phone released that has made me want to make the switch. Especially due to many of the awesome ROMS that been developed for our phones in the past year or so. In some cases, it's literally like having a new phone every few months. lol

and my ex got the airave since it was tied to her plan damnit
I've been with Sprint since '99... And I've definitely had my ups and downs. Overall I'm very happy with my plan, unlimited, my Airave at no charge to boost signal at the house and my E4G that has a very mature development community... But I'm really hoping to see some quad core hotness released in the next few months...

Any Sprint users?

I received the $100 off email yesterday. But I'm on Sprint. And I can't select Sprint on the pre-order site, so I haven't ordered the phone yet.

Me too, contacted Sprint, no tentative date of release. They need to get the ball rolling.
I'm waiting as well.
I must admit, I've been very excited for the release of this device. I've been a big fan of HTC since the Hero days and am still quite happy with and impressed by my trusty M7. The release of the 10 has, in my opinion, been nothing short of dismal. As evidenced by Samsung and even LG, you need to have your product available when the hype is at its peak. I'm really optimistic that the 10 will be worth the wait (despite not being water resistant, which would have put the thing over-the-top) but in this day and age people don't like to wait and with so many other great options available a struggling company can't afford to miss out on even one potential sale...
Totally agree. Should have been available at announcement.
Verizon is the #1 Carrier and seems to sell the most phones for HTC so I have no doubt that they were the first because of that. Back on the M8 sprint got the only harman kardon edition and I am think they didn't sell as many as HTC would have liked. HTC is trying to fix their profit problems in the US and one way to do that is to make Verizon happy. The sprint version will come. We already know a t-mobile phone will come as they did an un-boxing yet no announcement and I would assume its because Verizon rigged the game to be first. ATT won't sell it probably because they don't care to, they know people that want the phone want an unlocked/unlocked bootloader and will pay for it and they are possibly fine with that. Plus I assume they have have a better deal with Samsung and Apple where they make more money per phone sold. I will say it is sad to see that the unlocked version wont work on sprint, I think you can blame Verizon for that. This is only my opinion but verizon is opposed to unlocked bootloaders we all know, but since its CDMA it would be eaiser for HTC to make one "CDMA version" of the phone for both Verizon and sprint. It is still unclear if the unlocked version will have CDMA bands my guess is it wont. If it has CDMA the unlocked version has band 13 and should work on Verizon. That would be a big disappointment for sprint users since it does not have the 25, 26, 41 LTE bands. I am just glad I will be on ATT now...
I should add Verizon always gets their way, I cant wait till they day that stops but until then bye bye.
Really surprised there's not even a sign of when pre-orders are going to start yet. All the hype will be gone by the time that date arrives....

Consider T-Mobile if the coverage works in your area. It's super fast in most big cities, the plans are reasonable and they are modding friendly.
