If the merger goes through, then yes. I have been a tmobile customer for 7 years. I have been satisfied with the hardware, the accounts, and even the customer support. Especially the customer support.
AT&T want a stellar company before the SBC buyout, but it became terrible after. I expect the same thing if Tmobile is consumed.
I do not look forward to finding a new carrier.

I don't think I'll leave TMO unless AT&T acquires it and doesn't let me keep my current plan and pricing. I travel accross USA and do not have a voice coverage problem with Tmobile. Its excellent with few to none dropped calls. But the data sucks, my phone switches to edge 80% of the time as compared to my co workers AT&T and Sprint.
Not to mention I pay less than $160 for 2 lines with unlimited everything.... The next cheapest is sprint @ $210

If the buyout goes through, absolutely leaving. I will never be an AT&T customer again, even if it means taking my Vibrant over to Simple Mobile.

I agree with most the other comments....... I pay 152 per month for 2 lines unlimited everything......... and I use it............ When and IF ATT does get T-mobile. . . then I will have to find a new carrier, I really like TMO but tempus fugit......
As far as the customer loss I do not see that as a real big issue, if I remember correctly, the average for all the major carriers is between 6-8 million per carrier per year or as it is called in the industry the "churn"

It depends on my dad....he pays me and my sister's phone bill cuz we're in college...no matter if we stay or go...i still gotta unlock my Vibrant for another carrier

If the plans stay the same then ill stay plus some might have better coverage

Also, t-mobile hasn't cared about building out their data network for a long time. Data id more important than voice to me. I use 50 voice minutes a month but 2gb data. I don't mind paying more for a better network...

any other provider sounds better then att. i would gladly switch to boost with an unlocked android. or even metropcs has got a few good androids to date. att is making a losing bet unless they all of a sudden change their pricing plans.

If you knew T-Mobile coverage was bad in your area perhaps you should have started out with a different carrier in the first place. Here in Dallas I get 3G or H almost everywhere.

Add me to the list of people who will leave T-Mobile the day AT&T goes through. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen.

Hi idiot.
I did. No one else had coverage but t-mobile thanks to voice roaming, but at&t put a New 3g tower up so now they have everything. I went from at&t to sprint before t-mobile.

And traveling with a t-mobile phone is a lesson in frustration compared to at&t other Verizon.
I'm with them cause I live in a rural area and had no choice then.

Don't care where you live and how your signal is, tbh. even at the hspa+ market down the interstate your phone can go from full 3g to edge at any random time.
T-mobile are not defendable, so stop ****ing trying Even with good phones and low prices people are leaving, and for a reason. They aren't spending more just cause they can... There are sizeable cities here that can't get more than 3 bars gprs from t-mobile here, but the other three carriers have full 3g

I've been a T-Mobile customer for almost 5 years. Up until I transferred to the college in this town now, my 3G data service has been great. Im actually so unhappy w/ T-Mobile..Right now i live in Huntsville,TX where I goto college at and T-Mobile is beyond garbage here. Personally, If I'm going to pay the same amount of money as someone who has 3G/4G coverage, i have to have to have the same equal coverage. I'm back and fourth on GPRS and Edge here missing important calls like clockwork. I can get a similar plan with AT&T for the same amount with 4G service here in this town. (Trust me i work for Radioshack and I know all about both companies plans and prices as well as restrictions) When the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes out this summer for AT&T, I'm leaving T-Mobile to give AT&T my money instead. I'm not handing over my whole pay check for a Verizon phone LOL and I'm not going to Sprint with their 3G coverage map looking like a pepperoni pizza LOL
For the most part, T-Mobile has been beyond great as far as customer serviceand pricing, its just that voice and 3G data coverage is, always, and forever will be their weakness and that doesn't work for me.

T-Mobile / Nexus 4

Hi all.
I'm currently a Verizon customer and I hate the fact that their network is locked down because it's tied to CMDA. I like the idea of buying unlocked phones and popping in a SIM. Now that Google is selling unlocked Nexus phones at a ridiculously low price, I'm tempted to switch.
What I do like about Verizon's network is the quality. I've only been on at&t and Verizon and I can say that Verizon has a much better network than them in my experience. I'm also in a solid LTE area with grandfathered unlimited data.
Are there any people out there that have experienced both Verizon and T-mobiles networks? I know comparisons will vary from location to location - I'm in San Diego. Any advice on whether or not I should switch? I'd hate to switch only to learn that the network stinks and then lose my unlimited data when I go back to Verizon.

There will likely be a "cool off" period with the Nexus 4 as there was with the Galaxy Nexus, meaning you could get your money back after 2 weeks (or 30 days, I can't remember now). That's under the assumption you bought from the Play Store.
Then you could get the T-Mobile Prepaid $30 plan and test out T-Mobile's network for however long you have to return the Nexus 4. You'd just keep your Verizon line open while you are experimenting with T-Mobile.
The worse that you'd lose is a month's of prepaid service and maybe some repacking fees. The best is you'd be happy with T-Mobile and lower your monthly bill. Oh and there are plenty of people willing to take your Verizon Unlimited Data Plan for free and you could turn around and sell your Verizon phone.
That's what I did with the Galaxy Nexus and I was able to keep my number while being under contract (there's a Google Voice trick) . Verizon's LTE is faster than T-Mobile's HSPA but it's definitely suitable for my needs. I happen to think LTE is more than what average users really require.

I was also thinking about porting my number to google voice, but I realize I'd be losing MMS.
How would you compare Verizon and T-mobile in terms of building penetration and service in congested areas?

I would double check if the Play Store will allow returns for the LG Nexus 4, although I wouldn't see why not. I can't look up the site at the moment.
I was assuming that you are still in a contract. If you are, you can let someone assume your contract. It's called an assumption of liability and people will snatch up a contract that has unlimited data, especially with Verizon.
As far as building penetration, I don't notice much difference at all. I get better reception at my job and that is a 5 story building.
I think that the higher frequencies can become problematic if you are far from the tower, if there are many people using the same tower, the weather, etc. I don't believe in saying T-Mobile has bad building reception because it uses higher frequencies. But, it does play a factor.

You can also go prepaid on atts network. There are a bunch of mnvos, most notably straight talk.

I'd say stick to Verizon. They have more cell towers and what not so reception is very good. Also, they had a better selection of phones in my opinion.

I just switched to T-Mobile from Sprint. I have an original Xoom on Verizon. T-Mobile has excellent voice coverage and pretty good data. If you are going to be traveling out of the US (which I do). T-Mobile is the way to go. It is hard to beat Verizon's coverage and speed domestically. You can't go wrong with either. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Sprint and it was a bad experience. Phone was great, but the network was horrible. My phone drained in about 2 hours when not on Wi-Fi. Hope this helps.

You call Verizon Wireless assumption of liability department at 1-888-832-4540. You give them the first and last name of the person taking over the contract. Also, make sure you get your phone number ported to Google Voice beforehand. If you have questions about porting to Google Voice under contract see this thread:

Thanks. I was thinking about porting to voice but don't want to deal with MMS not working.

To be honest I just got switched from Verizon to t-mobile and though Verizon has more coverage T-Mobile network is still very good at least in Ohio, data isn't as fast as LTE but that's a given. Still HSPA+ is still quite fast.

I have several T-mobile phones, and my husband has a T-mobile phone and a Verizon phone. He's says there's really no difference in speed or coverage (we live in Jersey City, NJ....And to those of you that would like to dispute this claim...Note: this is my experience and opinion and I'm entitled to it. I was told my Tmobile SGS2 was not compatible with Mobi

A couple days ago I rooted my Samsung Tmobile sgh-t989 and today I unlocked it.
Today I called Mobi to see if I could use this phone with their $40 unlimited data, talk, and text plan and I was told no.
They said that the Mobi phones use cell towers and that Tmobile used satelites.
huh?
Is this true, or did they just rather not accept my rooted & unlocked phone? They do have a Galaxy S II for sale, but bought this a month ago. I don't understand why the Mobi Galaxy II would work but not the Tmobile Galaxy II with it being unlocked.

Never heard of Mobi, from a Google search they seem to be a cell company in Hawaii. I'm guessing they are GSM so I don't see why an unlocked T-mobile phone wouldn't work.
Actual satellite phones are quite limited and plans are very expensive due to the limited amount of bandwidth available. Even in Hawaii cell phones would use regular towers and calls placed to areas outside the state are connected using underwater fiber optic cables.

Wow I didn't know it was a local company, I thought it was national. I went by after work today in person to see if perhaps the worker I talked to was someplace else and I'd just get 'fixed up' with that service (unlimited talk, text, and data for 40 bucks). What the lady told me the thing was their phones didn't use sim cards, and that is different. They even have a Galaxy S2 with no sim, wow.
Ok, well I'll just keep my eyes open. I'm kind of spoiled because my main job is about 400 feet from home and I shoot my dsl to work and that serves my cell's needs in both places too. Now I'd like to get some more data for the rest of the time.
I'm going to look at Boingo, it's cheap enough for what I want.

If they don't use SIM cards then they are probably CDMA based like Verizon and Sprint, meaning you can't use your T-mobile phone.

I tried searching, and read through countless pages, but could only really find info about moving from US to Canada.
I have a Roger's GN3. Hoping to use it occasionally while travelling in the US.
Can you let me know what unlocking or other work I'll need to do to the phone.
And what carrier in the US is best supported for 4G, 3G, etc.

the best overall provider for Canadians residents for short trips down south is probably Roam Mobility (http://www.roammobility.com/talk-text-data).
for 3.95 per day (the smallest plan for 1 day), you are getting unlimited calls and text to US and Canadian numbers when in the USA and 300MB of data.
With this provider, you have access to 2G/3G T-Mobile's network... probably LTE at some time in the future.
So you only need your device to be sim unlocked and that's it...

I Often travel to the USA and unlike here, you can go to a 7-11 and buy a prepaid sim card with data and minutes. If not, roam mobility is also a good alternative as long as you're in metropolitan areas because their coverage sucks. I drive from Montreal to Florida about twice a year and don't have coverage 80% of the way down except when i come close to big cities. It also becomes quite expensive if you're looking for any service for a trip of over 1 week, easily costing you 50$ - 100$
But, my current alternative of choice is to stick with Rogers. They have a rewards program which basically gives you points for every dollar you spend on your bill and you can then redeem travel packs. I have about 9000 points and for about 6500pts you can have 40 minutes of call time and unlimited texts for 1 month and because its redeemed on points its free. (thats if you're looking for something with no data). You first have to subscribe for the reward program, the good thing is you can use your points for what you want like upgrades, extra data, extra minutes or other perks www.rogersfirstrewards.rogers.com

Roam Mobility is 27,95 for a week... Unlimited talk and text +2GB of data. You have 2G coverage nearly everywhere (at least on the highway between Montreal and Miami... And 3G in big cities.
It beats anything that Rogers can offer for the price.
Roam Mobility is easy to refill on the web, in Canadian dollars before leaving Canada. Something not always possible with a US prepaid service.
You can even easily buy your sim card online...

It certainly doesn't beat free! And no, it's not true, roam doesn't have coverage nearly anywhere, i used it last year and it cut out in the long stretches between cities.

You don't have data or inexpensive data with what Rogers is offering... And 40 minutes might be enough for you... But it's not comparable with unlimited.
Also I'm curious... Where did you lost coverage with Roam Mobility on the highway? I've went once to Miami and I regularly go to New York and Boston... And I always have coverage... 3G in the cities and 2G outside.

Dont assume anything. You have no idea what OP needs. Maybe 40 minutes and unlimited text is more than enough.
As for coverage, i mentionned where it cuts off, i cant be more specific as i have not mapped where my phone lost connection but all i can say is that ive been using it for 2 years twice a year and it happends that i stop at truck stops or hotels in small cities or between cities and i couldn't text my family to give them an update when i needed to, had to pop my rogers sim back in and connect to ATT. It was along 95, thats all i can say. I do remember loosing full connection somewhere in NY about 2 hours before border until about 30 minutes from border, it was in the mountainous part of the state.
I don't personally need data and also the big problem with roam is you lose your phone number. It's great if you have no business calls or are expecting phone calls but it's not an option for me anymore to lose my phone number. I rather pay 50$ for a travel plan and keep my line connected

I preordered the N6SP and wanted a know the communities opinion between the two. I know that my data will be limited and will be mindful.

I guess it depends on the coverage each one provides in your area. If they're both reliable, AT&T plans seem a bit more $ friendly for multiple device users. Your call.

T-Mobile. Keep the unlimited data and get a better signal. I think they are still offering 14 day test drives so you and your family can check out out and see how it works in your area and areas you frequent. I moved from Verizon years ago and never looked back.

hard to believe that tmobile gets better signal...

Verizon has the best coverage, but is the most expensive. Also look into Google's Project Fi. It uses T-Mobile and Sprint networks as well as Wi-Fi calling and you only pay for the data you use ($10/GB).

In my experience I'll rank them as follows:
Verizon (best building penetration)
T-Mobile (best combination of coverage and speed)
ATT (slightly better coverage, speed sucks)
..... Anything else prepaid/whatever
Sprint (nothing good to say) *silence*
Most recently in the top floor of my house a visitor had no signal with sprint at all whereas I was fine on T-Mobile.
In my father's office in Manhattan he has no signal from T-Mobile on the first 4 floors but fine anywhere above, but Verizon works in the basement.
In my mother's office (in the middle of a brick college building) she had no signal on T-Mobile only in her office, but as soon as she stepped out of her office anywhere else in the building she's fine. Verizon works fine in her office.
However in a recent hospital visit neither of my parents phones worked on Verizon but I was fine on T-Mobile.

I've had all of them except for Sprint. Verizon will find a way to screw you over and charge you more for nothing. AT&T is just expensive for marginal amounts of data. T-Mobile isn't the best but I have 2 lines with unlimited everything and pay $100 a month so for me that's the best compromise between everything. I get up to 80mb/s DL where I live which is better than At&t or VZW surprisingly. On the other hand their coverage in the middle of nowhere is nonexistent whereas the other two usually have something. It just depends on what your need and how the coverage is where you live.

I agree.
T-Mobile is the best compromise.
Not saying they have the fastest network or signal everywhere, but their prices are pretty good and if you're in a pretty popular area - signal is actually pretty good too.

A few years ago, I would NEVER have recommended At&t and I was about to switch to Verizon (as soon as my contract was up).....Then, in my area, At&t installed several new LTE towers and I have better reception than any of my Verizon friends. Even when camping in the middle of nowhere, I can get signal every now and again where they don't.
I also like the fact you can be on a call and use data at the same time...... Don't do it much, but sometimes it comes in handy. For example, my wife calls and asks "what time is the show tonight"? I can pull the phone away from my ear, pull up the website and find out and let her know. Verizon may have changed this in the past few years, but you couldn't do this with them last I knew? You would have had to say "I'll check and call/text you back".
But it basically comes down to checking your coverage map.... I manage a friends Verizon account that is very similar to my At&t account, and the prices are all about the same. At&t did recently have a "double your data for $0 extra" promotion that I got in on and I've seen Verizon run these from time to time as well.
So.....As I've said a few times, it just comes down to coverage.

I have Verizon now and had att at one point , they were both about the same price for me. att had better coverage at certain spots and same was true for Verizon. My verizon LTE service has been great in central NJ and i cant speak for att but a friend of mine has att and says the LTE is good. Now i can say i would stay away from sprint i have a few friends who have it and when we are all together they are always not able to use there phones cause there service is at one bar to nothing.
I think you cant go wrong with either ATT or Verizon they both have one of the best networks in the us in my experience. main thing to note is ATT isnt as locked down as verizon is. Verizon is not as easy to bring a unlocked phone into there network IE moto x pure, and nexus 6 (before they sold it) and the new 6P. they have gotten better but still a lot harder then it needs to be

I moved off AT&T to try Project Fi. Was perfectly happy with AT&T, but Fi was cheaper and seemed very interesting. Had a huge problem with their Hangouts calling feature - it kept my N6 from being able to make/receive calls. If I uninstalled Hangouts from all my devices/computers, including the N6, the phone would work fine. After 2 weeks of no Hangouts, I was about ready to put a nail into my head. So, I switched to Verizon.
Now, I have used Verizon on my work phone for years. The coverage they have helps ensure I can use the phone while on business travel. That's great for businesses, but honestly doesn't mean much for me when I'm at home and all the carriers give adequate service. Now that I think about the extra $ the Verizon plan costs me, the fact that I have to subscribe to visual voicemail for an extra $3 a month where I didn't have to before, and that it took an act of congress for them to issue me a SIM card for a "NON-VZW Device"... I'm kind of wondering why I just didn't go back to AT&T. Or even T-mobile. ... well, anyone but Sprint.

Yeah it was an act of congress to get my nano sim activated too , now they do offer a free version of the visual VM that im using now. I looked into project Fi but the cost wouldn't be much cheaper i use way too much data lol

If someone actually looked at the prices of the new plans you would see that ATT and Verizon are about the same and in some cases V$ is even cheaper...not by a lot....This is for a single phone..but I dont think its much different with multiples. Go with whoever has the best coverage..but even then its probably a wash at this point too.
