Stolen Phone help - Fascinate General

I just got done rooting my phone and installing ICS nearly one week ago Samsung Fascinate, yesterday someone decided to steal it.
Already changed pass words but still a lot of stuff i need on that phone with no way of getting it.
Now looking at a new phone which Samsung would you guys recommend as i plan to root it and install ICS on the new one as i liked it a lot.
Thanks

Bummer bro. Sorry to hear that. I wonder if your provider could help you. Is there a replacement you can use until the sgs3 comes out this summer?

Nope, been left without a phone for last few days it sucks.
Looking at getting another Samsung something i can run ICS on again as i like that ROM.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Get a Galaxy Nexus! If you can affor to jump carriers get a Galaxy Note. I can highly recommend both phones.

Found a decent deal on a Samsung Fascinate 4G its already rooted would i be able to set this back to stock if i had to send it in for warranty as warranty is still valid until Aug.

There isn't a Samsung Fascinate 4G for Verizon. That's probably the TELUS version. Which carrier are you using?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA

Im with Telus.
Also thinking about getting a Samsung S2X but hoping it can be rooted and similar rom installed like the ICS as everything worked with that.

for future reference check out prey, lookout, findmydroid, etc. these are all apps that can track your phone if it gets stolen, you just send the phone a key word in a text message or something and it will enable gps and give you coordinates and stuffs.

THANKS wish i would of known about that before this happen.

Get plan b in market. Its lookout but if u forgot to have it.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA

yeah that is one course of action, if you hadn't changed your google password then you could go on the play store website on your computer and download plan b and it will install itself on the phone and help you find it.

Unrooted my Vibrant ..will tmo know it was rooted? I have to send it in!

I rooted my vibrant and like 2months it developed a dead pixel so i'm getting a replacement and have to send this one back...I unrooted it but will tmo know it was rooted and will they even check?

No and very likely no.
hopefully you didn't register to XDA forums with your gmail account that corresponds to your phone... They can track that ****..
</sarcasm>
No, don't get worried, I sent mine in while it was rooted and they didn't make a fuss.
Great thanks.

Mine had to be exchanged, I unrooted it, but left my custom Harley theme embedded in it. They did not say a thing.

New phone trade in...

Hey guys, I've been wondering about something recently. Does anyone know sprint's policy on phone exchanges? Basically, I have an epic and this is my 3rd replcement phone which is STILL going crazy. I was wondering since this is my 3rd phone should I try waiting till the nexus s 4g comes out to replace with that since its a "similar phone"? Or should I just exchange now for whatever? Thanks
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
slim and no chance of exchanging it for a nexus imho. they will just change it out for another epic
Its like a crazy number of replacements before they will give you a new one, let alone upgrade. Doesn't hurt to tty though. I have better luck when calling
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
What I would do is go ahead and take it in and get a replacement. Hopefully the next one won't go all crazy on you. Then, if you really want the Nexus S, when it comes out, sell your Epic and use that money to put towards the Nexus.
There is no comparable replacement to the Epic (yet), so you'll keep getting Epics if they are exchanged. Nexus S will not be comparable.

Doesn't matter... Sprints not going to just give you one of there next top phones to replace an older supposed top of the line that did live up to its potential. Not with out a fight at least.
As one of the other relies stated it takes a lot of trade ins before they would offer you a different phone.
It took me 8 Treo 800w's(3 in one visit) and about a weeks worth of calling customer services and retentions before they finally gave me a Treo Pro as a replacement.
They even wanted me to use my early upgrade about a month early. I did get to stick of to them a month later... used my upgrade to get the Pre(lol) and sold the Pro for 300$.

I've had pretty good success through email, but you have to be reasonable. You might be able to swap it for an EVO. Just be nice they tend to be more willing to help if your nice.

i just got it from questionable means to see id probably would buy it if it worked but my phone completly freezes when i load it id hold of from buying it until a couple more updates are rolled out.
Are you running the verizon stock rom (2.1) or did you flash 2.2 thanks to the awesome talent in these forums?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
2.2, hopefully they can get it running on this phone, seems like a great deal for 5 bucks
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
id defenitly fork over the 5$ rockstar kind of pissed me off on this one though because if your not sure your phone is supported and u buy it u have to download the 400mb file witch takes longer than 15 minutes on most peoples connections so u wouldnt be able to refund it once u found out it dosnt work
witch is very shady if u ask me
Yeah it is definitely not best business practices
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
If I can slip my two cents in here. The refund issue is supposition, at best. Wouldn't it make more sense to contact the dev and ask him what his refund policy is, if the game doesn't work, considering the timeframe for downloading the data?

Come up of the year.

Recently went to a yard sale and found a Nexus S for sale $5 Guy said his kid messed it up that it didn't turn on. I thought to my self what the heck and bought it when I got home I went on XDA. It was a simple thing all I had to do was access boot screen and do a reset. Working great..
But now i have a question to any who read this. Now so far all I know is that is Sprint Nexus S but I see there is also a 4g I know its a dumb question but where would I find it. Now my new mission for the week is finding out before I start flashing Roms. So far I have a Galaxy 2, a Nexus S, hopefully soon Galaxy 4 and the phone that started my addition Galaxy S Captivate.
Any one have any good ROM,apps, and kernal recommendations would appreciate.

Why don't you go into system settings, about phone will tell you the phone model. I doubt flashing wrong one will jack it up though, just wont boot. The ns4g is CDMA network and ns is gsm, other than that very similar.

If I buy an S4 today, will it be updated?

As the title suggests, I plan on buying a S4 today. If I do, will it have the latest software that I can't root? How recent was the update the isn't rootable?
Thanks!

Just make sure when you get it doesn't have the mf3 firmware and don't let the sales person update it for you. If they do don't accept it. When you get it, take the SIM out and root and disable the auto update apps, see other threads for those, or flash a custom Rom

But once they bring the phone out to you and break the seal, isn't it yours no matter what? What can I say to decline the phone if it has the update on it without acting fishy?
What are the odds the update will already be on it? How long ago did it come out?

There's a 30 day remorse period to return a phone with AT&T for any reason. So I wouldn't worry about that.
I'm in the same position. My plan is to ask them to just give me one in the box and not let them touch it til I get home.

Well here's the thing... I actually signed up with AT&T yesterday. My gf got the S4 and I got the One. I kinda like the S4 better.
So I'm already gonna have to pay a restocking fee. If the S4 has the update, can I even go back to the One? Is it unlimited exchanges as long as you pay the restocking fee?

On the box of the phone it will have the software version printed near the serial number and IMEI on a sticker. Ask the salesperson if you can just check the software version first. Won't even have to open the box, and if you get a cool salesperson you can ask them to specifically look for a phone with the exploitable firmware version.

I'm pretty sure you can exchange all you want.
Also, there's no "acting fishy." You're allowed to root and mod your phone. It voids your warranty, but the sales reps in the store are not going to narc you out on your warranty anyway. I've had discussions with the reps in the store about mods, and modding concerns and it's fine to just tell them that's what you're looking for.
Also, in my experience, AT&T has had no problem servicing and replacing modded phones. They don't seem to care in practice.
Thanks a ton guys! I wasn't thinking, so I just checked the box of my gf's S4 and it's the MDL firmware! She got the red one though, so maybe that stock isn't turning over as fast.
I might get the red one just to be safe haha! I will put a case over it anyway. If she just got hers yesterday and it had MDL, I'm guessing mine would too. I'm going to the same store.
Thanks a ton guys for the fast responses!

I got mine last week it was NOT updated, unfortunately i updated it before I knew what the deal was. So you should be ok seeing how you know whats going on =]
You should be good just make sure the baseband ends in MDL and not md3. The sales person shouldn't have an issue with it. Let us know how it goes

I agree with this if you are buying it from a brick and mortar store the sales people wont have a problem with you checking out the phones before purchasing
i too was concerned about the update so i got one (for my daughter) from BestBuy. i asked them to fire it up to make sure it was working and confirm it was MDL before i left the store. first thing i did was remove the sim card, turn off wifi, root it, install TWRP and flashed a rooted MF3 version.
I was only able to return a phone for a different phone once. Maybe other stores allow it but I was only able to once.
Hey guys, here is the update....it worked out great!! When I went into the store, I told the guy that I was torn between the red and white one since my girlfriend got the red one. Even though I knew that I wanted the white. So he said he wasn't even sure they had the red in stock since it's not as popular as the other colors. He went into the back to check.
He came out with a red and white one and put them on the counter and started opening them up to show them to me. I casually looked at each box and they were both MDL! So I told him that I was in a rush and would put the sim in and do all the setup myself. He was cool with it and I left.
As I type this, I already rooted it and am about to flash a ROM. I'm in good shape and on my way! Thanks guys! :good:
Lol I got a black mist one last week on thursday that was still fine.. I am guessing. For at least the next few weeks you have a decent chance

I picked up a red one two days ago.
The sales rep told may that all the reds they had in stock were from an older shipment, so they haven't been updated.
Color was not an issue for me since I'm going to wrap the thing in a case anyway.
Sure enough... I now have an MDL GS4 already rooted, TWRP and unlocked.
Now to decide what rom to flash first.

If you don't mind, and without going too OT, what brought you to the S4 over the One? I'm a current S4 owner considering going to the One.
