ICS LPY wifi connection problems - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Used to get a perfect wifi signal on GB but even with the router in the same room I keep dropping out with ICS without any changes to the router. Is anyone else getting this and is there a solution?

i have the problem. 5m from router signal is 3/5 and it reconnect ever 10min. or 15min.
i use wpa2 aes

Same issue here but no dropouts, just poor connectivity even when near the router ...

Exactly the same for me, frequent drop outs that are unexplainable and didn't exist with GB

I'm having this issue too - though also had it on stock GB ROM.
Any solutions out there?

hero wifi dropping out

Is anyone else having issues with the WiFi stalling and having to reset it, even though signal strength shows as excellent?
It's not a channel interference issue as I know what channels are in use, plus its doing the same on 3 different networks where other devices work fine, I'm using WiFi fixer to reconnect but its still problematic.
What have others found to be the best solution?
Samme issue here. Wifi keeps on disconnecting/loosing the connection and is most of the time unable to reconnect. Have to either turn wifi off/on or choose "forget" and reconfigure the AP my Hero in order to get it to work again.
It´s a Linksys WRT54GX running WPA/WPA2 + TKIP.
Have used an iPhone 3G on the same router for a year now without ´any´ problems.
I'm using WiFi quite often but I don't have this problem with my Hero.
Are you absolutely sure that there isn't any interference? It might be that the Hero is just a bit more sensitive than your iphone.
Today I found G-mon at Market which scans around for WiFi-networks. Perhaps you'll find out that there is a network that's interfering constantly. I've had that a few years ago and then found out that the bus-company uses WiFi on their busses which uses the same channel as I did with my WiFi-network.
Thx for the tip. Checked and no interference.
Also having this problem with a Linksys WRT54G. No WPA though.
I don't trust this router at all; using WPA and connecting a Dell Axim X51v to it in the past used to knock out WLAN on router, needing a hard reset.
same problem here. Wifi is disconnecting randomly within a few meters from the Airport extreme. It also reconnects again...most of the time....without me doing anything.
i'm also having problems with wifi - using a linksys befw11s4 with wep. i've got everythign else turned off - have followed all the instructions i can find here in the forums, and not had any success :/
If you press the Menu button in the Wifi settings you can select Advanced. There's an option there that defines when Wifi is disconnected. If you set this to Never than the Wifi connection will be stable. (At least in my case it is).
Again, thx for the tip but this is not really considered a "solution" but rather a workaround.
I don't like the idea of having it on "allways on". A real battery drainer and it shouldn't be necessary.
I had similar issues with my wifi (Linksys WRT160NL) until I installed "Wifi Fixer" from the market on my hero. Since then wifi runs without problems!
I had similar problem, Linksys WRT54G v1.0 running fairly old (but latest available) Linksys firmware, with WPA/PSK.
Yesterday, re-flashed router to Tomato (based on HyperWRT), setup for WPA2/PSK(AES) and now all is working perfectly, no problems at all.
So looks like some incompatibility between the Hero and the Linksys firmware, for WPA.
Well, I'm running the latest firmware for my router but have now done some other configuration changes and it seem somewhat consistent with your findings.
Previously it was running in a "WPA, WPA2 + TKIP" mode but it has now been working flawlessly since I change it to "WPA2 + AES". Hence:
- WPA2
- AES
=
- WPA, WPA2
- TKIP
=
Info, update on the router: I'm having a WRT54GX, not WRT54G.
interesting; I had no choice but to upgrade, as the newest firmware for the v1.0 WRT54G doesn't - I believe - support WPA2.
Since I had many other wireless clients working fine with WPA (not WPA2), but not the Hero, one wonders if there are some WPA bugs on the Hero that get tickled by older routers, or just that the Hero is being less lenient than other clients.
glad yours is better too, anyway
I found that wifi performance and stability on the hero improved a lot when I changed my AP from dynamic 802.11 b/g/n operation to 802.11g only. I've seen other boxes with linux having similar issues with this AP (D-Link DIR-655), which points towards a driver issue. Wifi works better on Linux kernel 2.6.30 and later on notebooks so things should improve once HTC produce a build that include a more recent kernel. Wifi was quite a headache on notebooks too with the drivers in kernel 2.6.27.x that is included in the current hero firmware.
I have same problem - frequent line drops whne full strenght signal shows
I also have a Linksys WRT54G - never had any problems before.
tried wep and wpa -no difference.
Also tried some "always On" utility from the market place, it only helped reset it quicker.
As stated above, mine got more stable when fixing router to WPA2+AES but I now realize that I still do experience connectivity issues, although less frequently then before...
i don't think this has anyting to do with the router. I got a router from HUAWEI,forgot its brand, but not linksys for sure. I've tried the university wifi as well. they all have the same issue.
Mine is working great with a Belkin.
Looks like a problem with the Linksys firmware.
Anyone tried a firmware upgrade on the router?

Indeed, if you read up just a few posts, you'll find that question answered
that said, although things seemed initially to get better, I'm still seeing regular drop-outs with the upgraded router, and now still with the Hero upgraded to the HTC 2.0 ROM.
I do note that it seems to drop most when I'm sitting quite close to a different strong wireless client, e.g. a laptop. Perhaps the Hero just isn't a strong enough signal, and gets swamped?
Anyone else notice a correlation between dropouts, and proximity to other clients?

[Q] Wi-Fi speed incredibly slow

I've noticed that my wi-fi speeds are hell of a lot slower than 3G speeds. Anyone experiencing similar issue?
wi-fi: DL- 56kbps UL- 78kbps ping- 1218
3G: DL- 3106kbps UL- 1228kbps ping- 131
Device: Xperia Arc
With my previous phone, which was Xperia X1 I had much better results on wi-fi than on 3G. Also because X1 runs on WM6.1 there are settings to improve wifi performance, Android doesn't have anything of the kind as far as I know.
My modem is b/g, Arc has b/g/n. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I wonder what causes this and what could be done to solve the issue.
30 minutes usage of 3G network makes battery very hot, almost kill the phone. Need hardware reset again.
However wifi seems perfect doing well for me.
ARC sometime do run into battery problem, need to give it restart/reset.
No problems with hot battery here on 3G or anything else but the wi-fi speeds are disgraceful.
ive noticed the wifi signal isn't very strong on my arc, even when i'm sat next to router with no other devices near me. My X8 had superb wifi connection speeds, but my arc sometimes won't even detect wifi signals that my x8 had no problem connecting to.
I copied a video to my Arc over wifi @ about 900k/s. It was in the same room as my router. No issues here, except maybe a little less good reception than my laptop, which is normal.
My router is in my living room, I use wifi on my arc all the time from my bedroom and while "sitting on my throne" in the bathroom. No issues.
Maybe you have a loose wi-fi antenna in the phone? (not sure if that's even possible)
I can use the phone in the house too but the speeds are low. If it was the possibly loose antenna I wouldn't be able to fix it without voiding my warranty.
Speaking of warranty... Why doesn't SE say anything about this issue? Would they like me to return the phone to them?
no problems here, speed and signal strength are better than on my HD2
19000kbps download
14000kbps upload
6ms ping
but old 54g router is limiting speed

sry, read too fast through topic, thought was more like a general question.
b/g/n device on b/g router is no problem. you should test with different security encryption and on other networks so you can see if it is a problem with your device or router.
Hi, just wondering because I do not have my Arc yet.
Does it happen if the phone is on a table (ie. no "death-gripping
' it, who knows if that s an issue)?
Do you have a cover? on my DHD, a simple gel or whatever case would butcher the GPS performances, for example. Have to take it out of it if I want it to work properly.
Well, I did some more testing today and this thing has me puzzled. First off in the morning I got blazing speeds (in excess of 6500kbps down) on my wifi but in consequent tests the speed was slow (about 50kbps down) again. I went to my neighbours house to try it on his wifi and it ran fast there (6700kbps down). So obviously the Arc wifi can run fast too.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with router configuration as suggested here earlier. My neighbour has b/g/n router and uses WEP encryption. I have b/g router and use WPA2-PSK. I might try to reconfigure and see if it helps.
@kipue - I have no cover on the phone and it runs slow whether the phone is in my hand or on the table.
I wonder what SE might have to say about this issue.

WEP is unsafe, stay with WPA2 if possible. my results were also done on WPA2 secured network.

don't think Arc has death grip problems. tested a lot, signal strength weakens only when i cover the top chrome line (where power button is) with my finger
OK, I think I solved it, for now at least. I changed wifi encryption to WEP and in about 10 speed tests the download speeds ranged from 5000kbps to 9000kbps.
I'm not happy about switching from WPA2 to WEP either but what good is secure wifi if I can't use it? It's not like I'm keeping any secrets here and living in a little village I doubt there are many identity thieves prowling this dead end street.
Try wpa/wpa2 personal/enterprise with tkip/aes, maybe you find a combination witch works fine

[Q] Bad WiFi connection. Any solution?

Hello everyone,
yesterday my new POV Mobii tegra arived. Everything works fine, except WiFi. Mostly i cannot connect to any WiFi network. If I get a connection, its very slow and often disconnects. I found other threads where people facing the same problem, but I didn't found a solution.
With my HTC Desire and other WiFi devices i do not have any range problems.
I tested different ROMs (corvus5, modaco r8, stock, buzz07 kernel) with various builds of the WiFi Driver (AR6k).
Has anyone a suggestion what I could do to get a better WiFi connection? Could this be a hardware defect?
Thank you!
Markus
I have this problem too. I have experimenting with different wireless routers. My operator provide me with a Thomson TG784 that has a weak signal. Now am using a Edimax BR-6504n. It is a bit better. But I am thinking of getting a Netgear WN2000RPT
Repeater. If anyone have a Netgear WN2000RPT please let me know if it is any good.
It would be interesting to know what people are using. So feel free to post the name of your wireless routers here!
If you have WiFi connection issues, it is worth checking that you have Bluetooth turned off. WiFi and Bluetooth seem to share the internal aerial and there are wquite a few posts about the two interfering with each other.
today i made more tests on signal quality. if my mobii says "50%", my router says 0% signal quality. if i'm on the same room as my router is, my mobii says 100% and my router says 13-18% signal quality. what the hell?!
I am having some connection issues aswell. It seems to drop connection but when I switch aeroplane mode off then on it seems to wake up the wireless and connect again. Really annoying, wondering if to return it back to the store.
Is there any fix? running 4.3 and no updates yet.
ps. my router is a Billion 7800n

WIFI extremely slow

hi,
I recently bought a nexus 4, when I first used it with stock rom, everything was fine with the wifi speed i was getting from my internet connection (about 35 Mbps). So i tried out a few custom roms until i noticed an issue with the wifi speed , suddenly i wasn't getting more than 0,8 Mbps on the same connection, I thought it was an issue with the rom so I wiped and formated everything on my phone and used the nexus tool kit to flash a factory image.
Still the same problem, I again tried wiping and re flashing, but it does not change anything.
Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be ?

Your issue sounds similar to what happened to me. One day without any other changes my wifi speed tanked and the connection was iffy despite having strong signal and a clear wifi channel. In my case I fixed the problem by switching the router security from wpa to wpa2. I have no idea why that would help, but help it did. Maybe there is an obscure corner case radio bug. Maybe this will give you some ideas to try. My router is an old WRT-54G. Good luck.

I am already connected through wpa2, so it can't be that.
I heard wifi connectivity is controlled in the kernel, so I tried a few different ones, on all of them the same problem, the strange thing is Im always getting near exact 0,8 mbps,
ok now I switched off wifi optimisation (which cant be the reason because it was switched on all the time and it was working until recently) and the speed was normal again, switched it on again, still the speed is what it should be. Strange problem but I guess it is solved.

Wifi issues on Airport Extreme 750AC

The only issue I've had with the phone since receiving it on Friday is network issues using wifi over and Airport Extreme 750AC, that we have at work.
I upgraded to the 6p from a 2014 Moto X, which had no issues at all with the wifi at work. Also no one else at the office has complained about this kind of issue either, with a mixture of Android and iOS devices.
The phone connects to the wifi quickly, with very strong signal strength. But something is interrupting the connection after 10-15seconds, causing full loss of transmission. After another 10-15 seconds of no connectivity, it will come back strong for another 10-15 seconds. At home, wifi signal strength and speed has never been better, using a Cisco e4200.
Has anyone else experienced this with their 6P?
EDIT - This still occurs if I tell Android to connect to 2.4ghz, or 5ghz only, and not automatic. Both 2.4 and 5ghz networks use the same SSID.
EDIT2 - Issue resolved. Was not due to anything on the device, but an issue with the network DHCP instead.
I've brought a Nexus 7 to work running Android 6.0 as well, and it has no issues with the wifi. Posting just in case someone else runs into the same issue.
