Anyone else received this email from MS? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

We're contacting you because we are making a change to the Windows*Live alerts feature for Microsoft Hotmail, Microsoft SkyDrive and*Windows Live Messenger.***********************************************************************You might be using the alerts feature to have text messages sent to*your phone when a new mail, Messenger social or SkyDrive comment*arrives. The Windows Live mobile alert feature is being discontinued*as of May 31st. This means you will not receive text messages on*your phone when a new mail, Messenger social or SkyDrive comment*arrives.***********************************************************************Please remember Hotmail, Messenger and SkyDrive may be accessed*directly from your phone or phone's web browser. For more info,*see [Get mail on your phone], [Get Messenger on your phone], and*[Get SkyDrive on your phone].*

Yes.
Its unfortunate because I really like this feature - I don't have any data plan and it allows me to stay connected and get my emails while on the go.
Anyone knows a good alternative?

yea received it to. Just yesterday

Attendee alerts for calender appointments ??? HELP!

I have added the attendee that is coming to the meeting and its supposed to send a message about it right.
But when I go to messages and send recieve messages...
The email that the person is recieving just has the title for the subject with no times and dates, is this right?
afaik meeting request work on outlook to outlook only [i.e. outlook on a ppc and outlook on the desktop] a quick workaround is to add the details under note tab. that way when the email is sent to a non outlook based account [i.e. yahoo or google email] the details can be seen as text.
why does it have an option to send requests through hotmail then ?
only certain clients support appointment requests then obviously...so this would be a feature of pOutlook or derivative products. I admit it would be nice, a must if you're in a company like mine that use it (although not very much).

Is the problem with Pocket Outlook OR Gmail?

I am not sure if this is anything to do with the lastest T-Mobile ROM, but i dont remember having this problem before...
Basically poutlooks seem to download email messages i have downloaded before. Usually just ones from the same day. It's a pain in the ring. I remember having this problem a few months back with Outlook on my PC, so it could be gmail.
Anyone else had simular experiences?
gmail's pop support is squirrelly in a number of ways, that being one. I could never get it to work like every other pop mail service on the planet and said screw 'em. Being popular doesn't mean it doesn't suck, it's not outlook, it's gmail.
I had troubles with POP3 Gmail as well, I concur. I have no troubles with Yahoo POP3 access to PPC.
Is Yahoo pop3 free?
yahoo's pop mail is *not* free. not sure why anyone would want to pay for it though. unless it actualy works, which i hear it doesn't.
gmail is definitely messed up. messages always disappear form my inbox. i tried forwarding to hotmail, but it doesn't seem to update evry 15 minutes or even offer you the option to that i can find.
anyone know of a funtional, free pop service compatible with the outlook mobile?

If you goto Yahoo UK, it is free - you just have a @yahoo.co.uk address
yahoo.com is not free: $19 USD a year , ak Yahoo Plus.
yahoo.co.nz or yahoo.co.au is FREE
Dunno why ?
UPDATE : POP3 yahoo with the above only allows downloading to PPC email account. Not sending. As far as I can tell.

I want to be alerted when subfolders receive mail.

My work, unfortunately, uses Groupwise and I'm gonna get no support in getting a Groupwise mobile server or anything setup, so I'm stuck with syncing local for contacts and appts and tasks. I am, however, using and IMAP access to get my emails, and this works pretty well with the default Pocket Outlook email client.
One thing missing is that I have a couple of subfolders where I have rules that automatically direct emails from like my Boss or other people into the folder so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle of other stuff. However, I'm not getting notification when new emails are pulled into those folders. If I go into my email program I can see that I have new emails there, but I get the buzz or message icon that I have new emails. Is there anyway to make it so when new messages get pulled into the subfolders that I also get notified?
Ideally I'd REALLY like to stick with the default email program as I'm also using Mobile Shell and mobile shell apparently only integrates with the default email app.

I would like the same.
I have never found a fix to this issue and IIRC it is a limitation of the software.
I am using gmail so I just set up forward rules and dummy accounts. So I had account X with sub directory Y I have the email intended to Y get forwarded to account A and set A as a separate account. I dont know if this would work with mobile shell ( if it only looks at the outlook account)

It is indeed an Outlook issue. It only sends alerts on mails in the inbox. On my exchange server, the emails are redirected on the server before Outlook ever sees that they touch the inbox and thus no alert.
The only solution is some sort of third-party app, that would be nice.
If you're using Groupwise as your mail server, what is the email client you run on your workplace computer? And your workplace computer OS?
If your accessing Groupwise mail through Outlook on your work computer, your rules can be setup as client side instead of server side rules. If Groupwise behaves like a MS Exchange then your client side rules would only process when you're logged into your Outlook client. So when you're not in front of your PC, you wouldn't move your mail from your Inbox. Thus making them invisible to Pocket Outlook.
Or you could setup some special notification or delayed move rules. Again assuming you're using Outlook. Ornic InboxRules can be used to create some complex rules if you go that route. I haven't personally used it, but I used the predecessor to it called CaTrap to parse the sender, subject, and parts of the body into a another email and forward that via SMS to my phone.
If you can manage to get stuff to your Pocket Outlook Inbox, there are a few good tools that will give you advanced notification options on your phone. See this thread for details. Hope this helps to get you started.
You can see on http://www.magica.ro/pda_pocket_checkmail.php an application which solves your problem; it works together with ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile in order to alert users about unread mails in Inbox and Subfolders.
You can test it by downloading the demo version.
We published version 2.0 of CheckMail application.
New features are:
- displays messages on "Today Screen";
- audio alert when new messages are received;
- audio reminder if the new messages where not read (the interval when these verifications are made is selectable by user);
- by taping on CheckMail application, user can open Messaging application (Outlook);
- user can select in CheckMail application not to check Inbox (only subfolders).
Visit http://www.software.magicashop.ro/pda_pocket_checkmail.asp to see details and demo application.

Mobile email for smartphones

Does anyone use Verizon's mobile email for smartphones? What is the benefit of that app? If you can already get exchange, Yahoo, Gmail etc. etc. why would anyone want to download and install the app. If there are more benefits for using this, please let me know.
-Thanks
its a hosted service, the best feature is that you can lose/destroy your phone and have all of your email and contacts in a safe place. (like microsoft "my phone"). Its been around for a long time now, was originally "Nokia's Intellisync" (also rebranded for Novell Groupwise).
It has a nice web-based ui for managing your contacts and appointments.
In the end it up to you what service you use to backup your info/data, just use one of them.
Thanks for the great reply back. That explains a lot
So it is for POP3 and IMAP accounts? Can't use it with Google Sync?
correct, cant use with google sync. or any other push email service

HD2 Android and email notifications

Hi
I've been trying to find an email notification widget for my homescreen, just something that adds an unread count 'bubble' for accounts other than gmail, but without luck. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know I can get notifications in the status bar, but I often have that hidden so I can easily miss unread mails.
Also does anyone know of a decent push mail client? Its often hours before I get email on my phone...
Cheers!
Decent mail client.. well depends of what e-mail provider you are using
I personally use Hotmail, and Touchdown "exchange for android" is brilliant.
It works also for any exchange/activesync account.
if you want to show the unreaded e-mails in the home screen, just create a little widget 1x1.
other clients which are good are K-9 e-mails and the stock mail app.
for me, touchdown is better than anything else
hope it helps
I'd not heard of Touchdown, I'll be sure to check it out, as my main account is Hotmail too. I tried K9, but sometimes emails would come hours late...same with the stock email app...
Thanks!
