[Q] were to begin, new to android, buying an advent vega - Vega General

sup gents, please dont flame the nuub lols
im new to Android, buying an advent vega coming form a windows CE/mobile environment (do development just user), i want to understand android, how to use it, how to hack it, and what it all means.
post me some links so i can read, read, read, theres just so much stuff out there, one gets overwhelmed with were to begin, so i just want a starting point, and not spend hours tolling the net reading junk that isnt going to help.

This must be one of the easiest devices to root, so should be an easy starting point. As for links, just read through the posts for TUT or tutorials, and read them. If I'm allowed to say this, check out the Vega on tabletroms.com or modaco.com and read their forums on there and do the same thing.
You'll need to know:thumbup:
how to download and install drivers for windows (Vega tools, search Google)
Enter and use nvflash mode (how to put new from on, and gets you root)
How to flash the from through nvflash (.exe)
And the latest and greatest Roms. Vegaics/honey ice/vegacream
Again Google all until you're comfortable, it isn't hard just a little confusing a first. Hope you like the Vega and all it has to offer! Once you've had a fair go and re still stuck (Google the terms if needs be) just send me a PM , I'll try to help you

So what do i do now..im stuck is dis the link?bcuz when i click on it it doesnt give me details..plz help me
Basically, there are dozens of active Android builds to choose from. Most importantly, choose NAND (replacing WM) or SD (typically bootstrapped from WM). Next, choose either AOSP (based on Google sources), CM7 (a popular mod) or HTC Sense.
I use Hyperdroid GBX on NAND.
Do lots of reading. We've all done it.
i just tried that but i believe i might have did soething wrong is there anyway you can give me a call to walk me thru the steps on NAND HYPERDROID GBX..PLZ...267 912 1619
please search and read all stickies. everything is written out so that even those who do not speak english can effectively install android with little to no issues.
no-one is going to call you up, hold your hand and walk you through it, there are guides all over the place. and if you can not read and learn for yourself, then you are better off with an iphone. sorry, 'if u cnt do dis u need ifon'
seriously, learn and read. as stated in previous posts, we all had to read and learn amazing guides created by others. thats already easy enough.

my first andriod

this is my first andriod but i use wp for along time.
what's the first thing to know about root and customize rom
My ss is GT-P1000 it lock any suggest
Android is open source code, so anyone can modify it as they like. There are tons of apps and the apps are easy to write if you want that.
But at some point you want to do things that the operating system denies, so you need to gain root permission from your system.
Note: you don't have to root, unless you can't do what you need with your device.
You can go a long time and do many fabulous things with the stock rom, so you don't have to customize your rom either.
Take it slow, this is probably the most expensive device to start experimenting with.
I think it's fairly simple to tweak, but there are thousands of "help, I've broken my precious. . " in these forums.
First of all, welcome to XDA
Here's some reading material to get you started....

I agree with rangercaptain & conantroutman, read and then if uncertain, read again. It takes a few minutes to recheck something but may take hours or be impossible to recover if you do something wrong.
I like to root my device as it opens up a lot of different options but you need to check if you can do this.
Also, check if your bootloaders are locked as this may need to be rectified as well as network lock.
You are saying your gtab is an SGT-P1000. This is a GSM tab. It uses sim cards to use the phone functions. If you wish to flash a new rom, make sure its a GSM rom as the cdma and wifi roms will brick your device.
Use the links conantroutman gave you, this may lead to more reading. Its SO much better when you ask a question to show you have done some reading as you will get more help.

How to install Vegacomb

I've been trawling the forums and I can't find step-by-steps on installing Vegacomb. I'm a tech, but know next to nothing about installing ROMs. I'd greatly appreciate a pointer to the instructions.
Thx.
ha! with you there, android people seem to love their spartan instructions delivered in a very certain geek speak.
we'd go mad at anyone in the x86 hackintosh community who tried to pull that, but hey ho..
had my vega android thing for a week and flashed 4 types of rom after decoding the instructions. basically there are a number of ways depending on the rom you wish to use.
here's a good guide, but they wont let me post an outside link google tabletroms ..vegacomb instillation guide.

Newbie Vegacomb install question

Hi all,
yes, I dont like people who join forums just to ask one question either, but I promise, as much as I am sure this question 'must' be covered somewhere, I have searched for ages on forums and youtube install videos to gain clarification.
So.. if you are feeling charitable, all I want to know is:
For a new vegacomb install on a machine ( a viewsonic 10s to be precise) with the stock rom (2.2), my understanding is that I would
1. install the modded stock rom (v2), and then (and here is where it confuses me)
2. I think install the file "VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n.zip"
Thbis is important, as the specific confusion is regarding 'eactly' which file to use from all the available ones.
I also believe that one could use "VegaComb HC3.2 9b Installer.exe " on its own, but with no video tutorials of this and, from my reading, several people having problems, I am assuming my steps 1 and 2 listed above would be the reccomendd route.
I would re-emphasise though if I may, that I would like to be 100% sure what actual file I should be using.
Thanks all for your kindness.
PS. I also have read that not all 10s's can be updated to vegacomb, but I only read this once. Though not a core part of my question I was wondering if anyone else had this information?

You have it correct!! But First, BACKUP!! original rom, just in case you have issues
1. Install modded stock rom
2. Install Vegacomb HC3.2_Build9n.zip
3. Install HC3.2_Build9n Update3.zip (install immediately after installing Build9n.zip no need to reboot)
If your new to rooting, make sure you read up on wiping data and cache, making backups etc.. before trying anything.
Then your good to go!!
I say back up your original because I have a viewpad 10s, and it would not work with any of the newer roms (Vegacomb 3.2, HoneyIce etc..) because of touchscreen issues. I found Corvus5 rom is the only one that behaves with my Viewpad, and only after I ran his calibration tool in the app drawer.
Good Luck Rooting!!

All ViewSonic ViewPad 10S (Tegra2 based) can be upgraded to VegaComb ROM!
But not ViewSonic ViewPad 10 (no "S" here). Because that is a completely different tablet that is based on Intel Atom and can run in dual-boot (Android+Win7).
And to understand the difference between 9n and 9b read the first post of VegaComb ROM thread again.
9n - "N" as in Normal system partition (UK/US residents, people with system corruption issues,..).
9b - "B" as in Big system partition (lots of languages, newer gapps,...).
Read it again and all will be clear.
Thank you
Appreciatte your kind responses.
Hadnt heard of the Corvus rom.. but then being new to this and not having received my 10s yet, I guess that isnt too suprising. Ill have a look at it.
Will certainly back up as suggested given the various levels of success reported (although I imagine more people comment when things dont work, than when they do).
I will reread re: 9n and 9b as I hadnt realised the difference you highlight. I hope I can work out what is most suitable for my Australian sources tablet.
Thanks again.

No Problem!!
Just take your time, read the tutorials, and know you can always recover it back to stock, if things get screwed up. Probably the hardest part, is finding a male to male usb cable to plug computer to tab to get started.
And while there is not a lot of postings in the Vega forums, there are some great people, Yani2000, Vujke025, Beegee1962, and others that are very knowledgeable, and kind, answering everyone's questions, and fixing problems.
Best thing you can do is hit the "Thanks Button" next to there post if they helped you.
Now go turn your tab into the monster even your ipad friends will envy!!
I updated with the following post in AndroidTablets.net, the post ROM Viewcomb Honeycomb 3.2.
it's very very easy
Ah, cool, you're the dev that makes the Honey Ice ROM, right?
Try posting in the welcome thread and get attention of the willverduzco moderator.
Good luck!

**Any help please for acer A500 with rooting ICS 4.0.3 (total n00b)**

Hi all,i was a member of XDA (rejoined now + tegra owners) and MIUI forums a few years back but forgot how to do everything with android (bloody drink):silly:
Anyroad, got an old Iconia A500 (ICS 4.0.3)
I've downloaded mighty Thors : (tegra owners)
CM12.1-Tegraowners_ROM_v7t1
gapps-5.0.2_a50x_TO
update-recovery-TWRP-rev2.0-beta4
trouble is i haven't the foggiest what to do next?
I know i need to root it (how?) i think i used kingroot on my Xiaomi note 2...would this work here?
I've tried Blackthund3rs root program and it infected me with chinese malware which took nearly a day to get shot from my computer (i wasnt happy)
I've also tried the 'easy method' on here..and it came up unsuccessful
I could do with laymans terms the procedure to root and everything else..
A step by step guide would be fantastic for divvies like me :cyclops:
(from tegra owners forum)

Another A500 user
I'm another A500 user in the same spot. Wireless stopped working properly and don't have an update to fix it since they stopped supporting after 4.0.3. That's what I have on mine currently. So I'd also like to know how to root it if possible and move past these problems! I've rooted another tablet before, and I know it's a very specific process of copying files and rebooting etc. But never done it on this Acer A500 and would like to keep it. Still runs great except no internet now. Some sort of common glitch, but I can't find any patches to fix it!
