Hi! So I have a ZTE Blade Gen 1 with CWM and with the SF ROM (2.3.5). Now I wanted to flash a ICS ROM, but I dont want to lose any of the stuff I have in the blade. What can I do in order to not lose any of the apps, messages, contacs, etc. that I have in my phone?
PS - When I flashed the SF ROM I lost everything, and I dont want that to happen again =P.
Thanks for the help.
Just made a backup in the recovery...
Send from my Blade!

Sorry, if this sounds newbee, I'm kind of new to the whole cusotmizing phones. I just rooted my 2.1 HTC Eris phone to get SU access, which worked great with help from this site. I used the 1 click root app and i kept the stock OS ROM. Worked like a charm. Anyways I'm want to get the ability to download apps to my SD card, however I do not want to flash a custom ROM. I want to keep on using the stock HTC Sense UI, not to mention I don't want to redo my whole phone after a flash. Is this possible. I've searched the forum but every mention of A2SD seems to come with a custom ROM. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Probably the easiest way to get apps to your sd card is to flash XTR Sense. It I sherry close to the stock rom but is optimized for stability and speed. It also has the easiest method to start apps2sd.
I would do a nand back of your phone. So you can always return to this pot if you don't like the new rom. Do both wipes data and dalvik and flash the xtr rom.
I think most people report being much more happy with this than the stock ui.
Thanks for the info, I was affraid of that. that xtrasense does look pretty good. I think i'll go that route.

Just in case the OP still hasn't taken the plunge, +1 what Jp50 said. Been using xtrSENSE for weeks and am loving it. I've never settled on one custom ROM for such a long time before I started using xtrSENSE.
Just make sure and read the first post or two thoroughly.

Once you get a custom rom, you can overclock! That alone is worth it to me. If you like custom roms, you can check out TheCookieRom. It's a feature loaded rom if that's what you want. The link is in my sig.

Use a backup app for your apps and your contacts if you don't want to get those from the google server.
Oh and NANDROID IS YOUR FRIEND!!! I don't know how to stress that more but if you mess something up, you can restore from nandroid and POOF! All better.
Thanks for the reply, I got the NANDROID backup figured out and completed, I just need to figure out how to backup my aps.

I recommend MyBackup Pro. It seems to restore more of my apps than Titanium Backup (even the latest version - just tested it the other day when I flashed an update to xtrSENSE).
hey all, great site. I have rooted my a500, big deal for me lol. now I am confused about rooms and updating.
my specs are:
android 4.0.3, kernel 2.6.39.4
Acer_av041_a500_rv05rc01_pa_cus1. image
with the 1.033.00_pa_cus1 build
I know I need to update the OS, to which one and how?
after that would love the kewl ROMS, they are just custom OS with different themes and apps right?
Also need some help flashing the ROMS. do the ROM flashes get rid of all your apps or not. would be a bummer if it gets rid of all your apps.
also, does titanium back up get OS and apps on a full backup?
I appreciate any help and your patience and look forward to getting started.
thanks everyone..........

Well, 4.0.3 is the standard right now. Nobody knows if Acer will put out the 4.1JB.
We have AOSP 4.1 JB. However, understand, it may have minor issues.
Although there are "semi-root" for stock systems, to get the full advantage, you will need to flash the V8 bootloader, and, install a custom kernel/boot.img. That's the bottom line. There are guides in the forums that cover this.
As with losing previous data. A bootloader update, in most cases, should keep your data. Kernel/boot.img shouldn't mess with anything either.
However, if you run into issues, be prepared to lose existing data. And yes, on occassion, it does happen.
TB sucks if you plan on restoring "data" when installing a new rom. You can restore APK's, but in a lot of cases, forget the data. Reason, TB only works, when you restore the data from the EXACT SAME ROM. A couple things may work ok, but it all depends on what data.
MD
thanks

OK, so the OS is up to date, that is good less to mess with. I don't think there is really any data to lose per say. I was more thinking about all the apps I have installed. Confused about v8 boot loader, I have installed superuser, root checker, ROM Manager.
Is the custom kernel boot image what everyone is reffering to as ROM flashing, or ROMS. What is the difference. Could you give a liitle more instruction here please. What is the kewlest, most complete, awesome Rom to flash right now? I thank you for your help and patience.
Would love to hear from others as well, what awesome From are you running? Where is it located and instructions to Las it.
Thanks everyone ahead of time and special thanks to Moscow.........
Hi all...sorry if this is very noob but hope someone can help me out...
i got my galaxy s4 for att and its been great so far...i did root it and got rid of all the junk stuff on the phone which was nice to do... but a little issue now..there is an OTA update and its trying to apply it by rebooting but it goes to my console screen i guess and i know even if it applies it it would get rid of root.... is there a way to apply this without having to reinstall all my emails (5 emails) and my apps and keep the root ability on it? I would love to get the feature to send apps to my SD thats the only reason i really want it.
again im sorry if this is very noobish to some of u but would like a nice guide if possible how to do it.
Thanks in advance
What device? Thats important, and DO NOT let it do the update. if you are rooted, you could freeze the samsung updater.
I would get off stock and flash a custom rom.

hehe I know you stated galaxy s4, but I needed to make sure, US version right?
Use my rom, mine is totally stock, with a few modifications, and FAST!
or you can go any TW rom.
here is mine..
[ROM] ViSiON-X v1.0|AROMA|4.2.2|MGA|TW|[08-03]

then you will not have to worry about an update, until someone finds a patch for the update...

I use Infamous S4 as well, I love it. It's pretty stock feeling.
When it comes to the backing up part, I suggest Titanium Backup. Get the pro version and you can batch install all of your apps from a backup, otherwise you have to do it one by one. It also saves all app data and system data and accounts, so you can do a full wipe when installing an update or a new ROM (always a good idea,) then just let it completely restore the phone from a backup. You can use it to back-up everything, except for the home-screen layout (android limitation apparently.) Plus you can backup right to the phone if you have space so you don't have to wory about using the computer. I recomment getting a microSD card for 10 bucks at Staples and backing up to that. When you're restoring, make sure that you check what you're restoring. Most of the stuff in red are system apps that don't need to be restored (as newer or the same versions may already be installed from the update.)
For restoring root priviledges, CWM and TWRP custom rrecoveries have a tool for this.
Hello guys, I'd would like to ask which are the best roms for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 Android 5.0? I've upgraded to stock lollipop rom 3 months ago. Sooo, What is the best rom for my phone? Also, is there anyway to upgrade my phone without deleting my apps/files? Thanks!

You've been around XDA long enough to know 'best ROM' posts are not welcome...
Best way to update though is to be rooted and use a custom Recovery like TWRP to nandroid your phone. Then you can update and Restore only Data and have almost everything back.
I also use Call logs backup and restore and SMS backup and restore so i don't lose them and I export my contacts out to extSDCard so I don't lose them either.
Add in TiBu Pro with a backup of all user (and a few sysdtem) apps and I can restore ONLY apps and have a clean flash phone.

Different ROMs suit different needs. The Mods have said no ETA posts and no best ROM posts. Look around and try things out. Best advixce is make sure you read plenty FIRST. Go through the threads and see what issues people have etc. BEFORE you flash the ROM.
Alright, thanks!
Hey guys
Ok I have a few questions regarding my situation... i went from stock (never touched my rom before.. 6.0.1 i think) on my 910F with latest ota updates.. to the Norma v14.. thats what Im running now.. but I have a few issues.. incoming calls doesnt show the names, only numbers.. thats my biggest issue oh and the fact that I cannot restore my backup made in smart switch before i flashed the rom.. now I have these questions.
1. If I go into twrp and restore to the factory state that I made a backup of, and then use Titanium backup(as i bought it) to backup my phone.. will I be able to backup everything including s-pen notes, pictures, videos, and all my apps data.. and then...
2. Can I then flash the v15 Norma rom and use titanium backup made in stock rom to restore EVERYTHING to the new rom.. thus having all my data back?
3. Oh and can anyone confirm that the lock screen off s-pen write feature works in v15?
Do I miss anything? Is this a good plan?
Oh and if anyone have experienced the problem I have with the contacts not displaying, please tell me what to do..
Thanks for any feedback. You guys rock!
