Fastboot issues

I have adb and fastboot set up on my laptop, I just recently put Ubuntu back on here and just finished setting up my sdk and such a couple hours ago. I know its set up fine because adb works and I am getting fastboot output from my terminal, but its not reading my device. if I just type fastboot, the help will come up, and when i prompt for devices I get nothing, I have tried three different cables. Any ideas? fastboot tends to be unreliable for me in the past more so than adb. I just don't know what I can do now.. I am on the NS4G 4.0.4 leak and I'm trying to flash CWM and root so I really need fastboot
You are in the bootloader right?
Phone Off --> Vol. Up + Power simultaneously --> "fastboot devices"
yeah I am. I did it on my other NS4G on windows just yesterday and had no problem with it but I hate booting into windows unless I have to. Just trying to get it working on ubuntu

You simply need to connect your N7 to a computer's USB port and then you can access recovery mode via the steps you mentioned. It's a bug that Google is going to fix eventually (I hope).

I'm assuming from your original post (even though you didn't say it) that you are talking about fastboot mode. There is currently a bug that prevents the Nexus 7 from entering recovery from fastboot mode when the Nexus 7 isn't plugged in to a computer.
If you plug your Nexus 7 (using the charging cable that came with it) into a working USB port on a working computer, you can enter recovery from fastboot mode. Your Nexus 7 should be off when you attempt to enter fastboot mode.
So, the sequence of events should look like this:
Power down N7.
Turn on a computer with a working USB port.
Plug the N7 into the working USB port on the computer using the original charging cable.
Press power and volume down to enter fastboot mode.
Use the volume and power buttons to select Recovery mode.
Enjoy benefits of Recovery mode.
You can also do what ÜBER said and use adb to enter recovery mode. You still need to be connected via USB to a running computer, though.
Unless something else is wrong with the N7, the steps above (if followed correctly) will allow you to enter recovery mode.

Hey there! were you able to find answer to this question? I'm in similar situation.
Thanks
with its security nonsense, the PRIV only seems to accept adb commands once fully booted
Delete Drivers
I dont know if this is still needed. I had the same problem. I just deleted the BB Drivers from my PC and plugged the phone in. It started right up.

Fastboot help!

Hi guys, need some insight here.
Did update for my 2017 shield tv today
and it got stuck at Android booting splash screen.
am not able to access fastboot with the controller connected to port next to the HDMI
and pressing A + B while connecting power.
while stuck at the splash screen, my laptop can see the device with "adb devices" but it is in unauthorized state.
how can I access fastboot?

Big Big problem - No fastboot with Controller method and pc!!

I try update my nvidia shield tv 2017 but now the System bootloop on Android circles animation (dont start box).
- I try fastboot with Controller but dont work (many, many times)
- I try conect to pc but dont connect device with fastboot
bricked bootloader??
I dont have solutions.... please help.
Sorry my english
Try un plugging the power then plug a USB keyboard in and hold the A and B key and then plug the power back in.
same problem for 3 days, can not enter fastboot mode. my shield is in bootloop
Shot in the dark, but have you tried different USB ports on the computer? I know in my case, some otherwise working ports will not work with the shield. Seems to be very fussy when it comes to which ports I choose. None of my front ports work on this desktop, I have to plug into rear ports in order for my computer and shield to see each other.
Also be sure to use the original cable that came with the shield.
Also make sure USB debugging is on.
Any fix ? Same problem
Have you tried "adb reboot bootloader" in command prompt when the android logo is looping?
I have no Android logo i have no os just twrp and twrp with no access adb and fastboot command dont work on NVIDIA logo
If you put lineage os on a usb stick can twrp read the usb stick? If so, you can install the zip file of lineage with gapps...once that's installed and booted up, you can enable usb debugging in the developers options and fastboot and adb should work again.
