Hello! All started when I formatted /boot in CWM. I was running Aurora 2.05. Downloaded the official 2.3.5 (v.B528) and made a successful upgrade. BUT, when I tried to root the phone with SuperOneClick 2.2 & 2.3 it got stuck at "step 7 wait for device" like 30 times!(Not kidding at all). So, I tried B528_root and still no luck. With this I get messages like "failed to reboot to bootloader","cannot locate boot.img","no such file or directory","failed to push Superuser app". The device works properly but I cannot root the damn thing! Never happened before. First time I rooted the official 2.3.5 was 3 months ago with SuperOneClick 2.3 successfully. I have no clue what is going on now!!! Maybe corrupted boot.img?
Any suggestions? I'm out!!!
EDIT: I'm pretty sure there is a corrupted boot.img. Problem is I cannot access the bootloader system files to replace it. Is there an alternative way to replace boot.img?
I had a problem like you.I have deleted amss.mbn file and bricked phone But i wasn't so patience enough, i sent my phone to technical care. But here are the answers, try it with caution:

Hi
Space is not enough to flash any ROMs;
Bootloader is locked, you could not edit that sector.
So is there a special ROM that is very small and allows to edit the bootloader?
Here is the MINI ROM:
http://www.mediafire.com/?7c33h84a974va28
Flash it than edit the bootloader~
NOTICE: I format the whole sector ,and the file including IMEI was missing
'Cause I don't know how to edit recovery or other system files like .mbn,
so just delete the abnormal big file and you would be able to flash any ROM s

Ok here's what I did
Download mediafire.com/?1hbk6n46hgamyt6
Unzip it, and find UPDATE.APP
Put UPDATE.APP in a dload folder and upload to empty sdcard.
Put sdcard in phone, and hold vol+/- and power and flash it.
After phone has restarted pull battery.
Download http://www.mediafire.com/?6hrfz36b8e2vw87
Unzip and copy the dload folder to empty sdcard.
Hold vol+/- and power and flash it.
After it fails near the end or if it restarts then pull battery.
Download a rooted boot.img and a clockworkmod recovery.img (got both mine from links at modaco)
Attach phone to PC in pink screen mode and delete the boot.img and recover.img files.
Upload the downloaded root.img and recovery.img to image folder in phone.
Download any custom rom from XDA, I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475687 and upload it to sdcard
Pull battery.
Hold vol+ and power and go into clockworkmod, wipe everything and flash the custom rom!!
Good luck!

I don't think that is anything wrong with boot.img. If you mean that you cannot access the Image folder from pink screen, this is normal because on B528 this function is locked. The failure of automatic root ways, from my experience(I've done this procedure a lot of times from windows and I've succeeded only 2 or 3), seems that have to do with adb connection with the device. I generaly can root the device only from linux system with doomlord's root automatic method, or from windows with manually input of the necessary commands from DOS command prompt.
I've made a thread about this manual procedure, which is on developing section I think(unless is been moving to general).

Thank you for your answer. Did upgrade with the official v517 and because of the unlocked bootloader managed to replace my corrupted boot.img with another working one. Eventually, my phone is rooted once again!
As I suspected it was boot.img's fault that caused all these problems. Just to inform anyone who has boot.img problem, try to install v517, v522 or v526 because of the unlocked bootloader and replace the corrupted .img.
I'm happy again!

I've seen a similar post with such commands via adb here in XDA. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced with command prompts so I tried all the common, easy ways for rooting. I have rooted official 2.3.5 in the past so this problem was new to me. When I replaced the boot.img then the root process through SuperOneClick 2.3.3 was successful as in the first time I did it 3 months ago.
That's why I'm insisting I had a corrupted boot.img file.
EDIT: I knew I couldn't have access in the bootloader of the 528. That's why I installed one with unlocked bootloader such as 517. The pickle was that I couldn't figure out the problem. So, I replaced the boot.img and everything went well.
So, you've managed to flash 528 or you are with 517?

Actually no. I was running Aurora 4.0.3 before so I returned back to Aurora.
Ok, just to know that 528 haven't any problem generaly. I know this because I've flashed and rooted 528 before some days(I had, aurora before too), to test something about sensors. Also, you can unlock the bootloader(if this stops you for using a newer version) by flash this from 518 rom. There is a thread about this(I thing from bleufish), and the necessary files to do it.

the main accessorie to formatted boots to know to open update screen.
you have to insert the official update file to your sd card first. but if you want your phone to start updating, you should take off your battery and connect your phone to usb.
and open your phone by pressing volume + and power button (without battery i must have your intention to this point)
then when your phone opens, black update screen will appear, in that time, take on your battery to your phone again - your update is going to start.

Managed to get cwm and root with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...vo-a3500-h-t2879208/post55491817#post55491817
Modified the guide for Lenovo A3500-FL!
EDIT: Also some users have reported that this guide doesn't do the trick or is out-dated, so copypasted the guide from this post here.
Guide
1. Download attachment cwmRecovery.zip and download latest Flash_tool (version 5.1352.0) can be downloaded from here)
1.1. Enable USB-debugging. (How to do this)
2. Manually install the drivers from the attachment a7_40_drivers.zip for the LenovoTablet before plugin it to computer (win7 dirvers work for win8 too).
2.1. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 7: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3914-windows-7-how-to-install-unsigned-drivers
2.2. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 8: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
2.3. After you have disabled the driver signature verification, you can install the drivers like this: Right click My computer, Manage, Device Manager, right click your computer at the top, Add Legacy hardware, next, Install plapla manually, next, Show all Devices, Have a Disk.., Browse to the driver folder where you unzip them, choose example windows7 and the 64 version (win7 drivers work for win8.x too), install every device. Then follow the guide.
(Note: Otherwise Windows only installs the normal automatic drivers and its more difficult to install the other drivers.)
2.4. Plug your device to PC.
3. Download the latest supersu zip file (version 2.46) from attachments or from https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
3.1. Move the zip.-file to the Sdcard.
4. Turn off your device.
5. Unpack cwmRecovery.zip
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights.
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder).
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2. Press Download.
7.3. Connect your device.
7.4. Wait few seconds.
8. Have CWM on your device .
9. Unplug your device.
10. . Boot to cmw recovery by turning off your device. Then press and hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP and then also press and hold POWER for about 7 seconds.
10.1. Choose " Install zip from sdcard." (To confrim always use the Power Button)
10.2. Choose "zip from sdcard".
10.3. Select SuperSU-v2.46.zip from sdcard and apply.
10.4. Have a rooted tablet.
It might be necessary to always flash the CWM with the Flashtool directly before you startup the device. Otherwise it will start the original AndroidRecovery again.
It might also be necessary to use different drivers from here.
If the supersu zip doesn't install, try toggling the signature verification to disabled from cwm->install zip from sdcard->toggle signature verification.
Tested and working on Levono A7-40 3500-FL with kitkat update, build number A3500FL_A442_01_25_140823_SE, from ota. Attached screenshot for proof. Also other people have reported that this works for later updates too, for example A3500FL_A442_01_27_141127_SE.
You can update to the latest OTA firmware by first going back to stock recovery. See the second post for the guide.
Thanks and credits go to: @Koli96 and @bobais
How to go back to stock rom/recovery and update to latest Lenovo OTA firmware update
So, it's pretty simple, you take the stock_recovery.zip from the first post, extract it, and replace recovery.img in the recovery folder with the stock one.
Then :
Quote:
4. Turn off your device.
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder)
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2.. Press Download
7.3. Connect your device
7.4. Wait few seconds.
And that's it !
On a side note, if it seems stuck on a black screen with a loading circle after factory reset, you have to put the tablet in landscape mode and restart (the shutdown menu appears without any problem) - this issue doesn't seem related to recovery, but a bug within lenovo firmware and the first configuration screen.
Side note 2: The first boot after flashing new update might take 15mins.
Side note 3: After updating to the latest OTA you can go back to cwm recovery with the guide from the first post.

I got the same tablet and I also am looking for a root. :/
Another waiting for rooting lenovo owner.
Same here, i was looking for a root guide and i couldn't find anything.
Does anyone else has a problem with long charging times?
Well it charges long and the charge stays long, so no issue here.
Seems that not that many lenovos root easily, but of course this is a pretty new device(?).

Installed everything and tried vroot once again (I have tried it before).
Still not rooted. And btw that vroot at least tries to install bunch of bloatware crap on the pc.
Edit:
I would suggest for anyone who installed Vroot to your pc to scan the whole pc after you uninstall the vroot.
Here are the scanning tools:
Malwarebytes
adwcleaner
superantispyware
hitmanpro

I got a successful root by flashing Recovery.rar from lenovo-forums.ru, (it's easy to google, I'm not allowed to post links) with the included SPFlash Tool and afterwards flashing the needed SU binaryies and apk. However, this will mess up the OTA updates, and I can't find the stock recovery again.
Therefore, I really beg anyone having the stock recovery to post it, enabling us to switch between them, whenever we want to apply any OTAs.
Thanks a lot!

Well I very highly doubt that there will be any more updates for a device with this price range. And since the next android version is the L version, which requires more work than before.

Yes indeed, that's what I'm trying to do. Rooting the A3500-FL. According to the instructions you need to install the SuperSU from a zip on your SD card. When I try do that it gets interrupted every time. Installing recovery went well. So I'm not getting what I do wrong? Any ideas?

Yup.. This is the problem. The recovery runs fine from Flash Tool and claims it installs it. (Download ok) But I still don't seem to have CWM on the device. It's just normal recovery mode. So any ideas about the CWM-installation? What could possibly go wrong? I get no error messages. Cheers.

OK, so far I'm unlocked. But, I'm stuck on step 3 - select the folder where you are having the twrp.img by pressing Shift + Right Click.. Then select "Open command here"
EDIT:Got it! I had to open the actual folder first with TWRP in it (adb is where I put it) in my C drive then the right click + shift works as you said within the folder - thanks so much for this tutorial!
Is it neccessary to be on 2.19.40.22? There wasn't much of a difference between 2.19.40.20 and 2.19.40.22. Would I have to flash the OTA then flash CM? Also, do you recommend wiping cache/dalvik after flashing GAPPS just in case?
PS: Thank you Ansebovi! All your guides are easy to read and follow.

ota have patch for boot and recovery,..not a gud idea to flash ota with twrp, custom kernel...it may end up in failure
hi, finished downloading needed files, unlocked bootloader succesfully (white splash screen) , rooted, and installed unthetered twrp just like in the steps, however, when i tried to enter recovery for the first time just showed android on the floor with ERROR and red triangle logo...nothing happens so just rebooted and wating for a tip...thanks.
EDIT: sorry i did not read the same problem being resolved on page 1... got twrp running now.

For 500CL ?
I can't wait for this rom for the 500cl Zenfone 2. The original rom is awful, with the huge amount of bloatware any so many bugs ! Any chance to have this rom for the zenfone 2 500cl ?
Dummy friendly guide how to upgrade, flash and install the latest Marshmallow Firmware and the latest ROM’s such as the ViperOne ROM 4.x.x, this guide is intended for those who are already slightly familiar with the flashing process and have previously managed to flash a ROM on their HTC One M9 device…
CHECKLIST BEFORE STARTING:
1) Phone is S-OFF
2) Unlocked Bootloader
3) Rooted
4) Latest TWRP recovery
5) SUPER CID changed to 11111111
6) External SD Card
7) NANDROID Backup and any or every other form of backup
8) Device drivers, Android SDK Platform Tools including ADB & FASTBOOT.
9) USB Debugging enabled.
10) BACK UP OF ALL YOUR DATA !!!
Before we begin make sure you back up all your data on both the internal and external SD card.
For the purpose of this tutorial we will be installing the latest ViperOneM9 ROM…
a) Downloaded and place the latest ViperOne ROM - ViperOneM9_4.x.x.zip on your External SD card,
Main Thread by j to the 4n is found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-viperonem9-1-0-0-tweaks-hub-t3072773
Latest ViperOne ROM for download is here:
http://venomroms.com/htc-one-m9/
b) If you are currently on ViperOneM9 3.5.0 or older and wish to upgrade to the latest 4.x.x than the latest Marshmallow firmware is required (3.35.401.12 or 3.35.617.12 firmware)… This can be found here and within Sneakyghost original thread.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZaiJ3F_f76sVa4daU5H62OYi5Bj23LEBBv4xDTQ8y-M/pubhtml
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243
Now download the latest version of either:
NO WIPE ZIP
or
FULL STOCK WIPE ZIP
For this tutorial we will use the FULL STOCK WIPE ZIP (to archive a clean install – this will wipe everything on your phone excluding the External SD card)
c) Place the downloaded M9_3.35.401.12_FullStock_wipe.zip into your Android SDK Platform Tools Folder (for example C:\Android\ if this is where all your tools are found)
d) Download the latest version of TWRP recovery from
http://www.teamw.in/devices/htconem9.html
Place the downloaded twrp-2.8.7.0-hima.img in your Android SDK Platform Tools Folder
e) Once you are 101% ready to begin the process start by connecting your device and launching the command window (hold shift, right click in window with all the required ADB/FASTBOOT aps and select "open command window here) once the black terminal window appears start by typing in
adb devices
if your phone appears in the list we can continue by typing:
adb reboot download
wait a few seconds for the screen to appear and type:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
your phone should now be in the RUU mode with a silver HTC logo, now type
(if you renamed the original file type its current name, by default it is as follows)
fastboot flash zip M9_3.35.401.12_FullStock_wipe.zip
f) you will most likely receive something like this towards the end after running the above command...
FAIL90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediate
FAILED (remote: FAIL90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediate)
For "hboot-preupdate" response, restart the same procedure for device...
just type the above command again and phone will flash the update again and hopefully it will take at least a minute or more to complete, hopefully there will be no more errors, just in case repeat the above command... Just in case you do see errors try looking them on Sneakyghost's thread found here
g) Once this is done and everything passed than we have successfully upgraded our firmware to Marshmallow... Since we selected the FULL STOCK WIPE option we need to flash TWRP once again (as it was wiped) and don't bother resetting or hoping for the phone to boot normally as it won’t...
(if you renamed the original file type its current name, by default it is as follows)
Type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-hima.img
and once it’s done
adb reboot-bootloader
*if for any reason you need to reset your phone and gain access to the bootloader menu, download mode, recovery etc. you can always do this manually by holding vol up, vol down and power buttons at the same time for a few seconds to reset the device, to get into the bootloader, recovery, download mode etc. After the phone resets continue holding the vol down and power button until you reach the bootloader menu.
*if you type adb devices and you see multiple devices or emulators that prevent the commands from working I suggest running the following:
adb kill-server
adb devices
Now only your connected device should appear…
h) It is now time to enter our recently flashed recovery to finally install our latest ROM.
Enter the recovery manually or by typing
adb reboot recovery
From there you may select the wipe option (swipe to factory Reset) and proceed to the Install section, browse for your ROM file and select it.
i) Within Aroma installer select all your preferred options and begin to install, once the flashing completes your device should reboot and now you keep your fingers crossed and wait (will take several minutes so just be patient…. And DONE!!! You now have the latest Marshmallow firmware and ViperOneM9 ROM installed.
#Please note that I’m no expert when it comes to these matters, this guide is here to help anyone who is unsure what to do, I tried to write it up the best way possible (sorry that there are no fancy pictures) if there any errors or issues with my methods please feel free to correct them but so far they worked for me and hopefully will also work for you. (This guide will also help you flash other ROM's) If you need more help please feel free to ask, there is always someone here on xda who knows the answers

Very nice writeup. Just got an M9 for the wife. I've been around the block so I get everything, but I've been away from HTC since the One X...well, there's the N9 but it's a nexus. What are the RUU mode and Download mode. If I remember correctly there was only the bootloader to go to on the One X. If it's complicated is there somewhere I can read about the modes?
Can you write instructions for s-on and unlocked boatloader? Thanks.

Also try the following as error 22 was not covered in the error handling section...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59783531&postcount=3
Download 7zip, open the zip inside of the program, right click on the Android text file and open within. Change the mid to yours hit save. It will ask if you want to update the zip, hit yes. Then try and flash.
SneakyGhosts post explains this:
Error 22 is new to me too but the string is kind of self explanatory: every archive has a header where the archive-program finds info about what type of archive and what compression. If the error says anything about this header, the logical conclusion is either a corrupted, broken archive or an unsupported archive type.
I suspect the latter simply due to the fact that the zip was unpacked and repacked, which then easily creates an incompatible zip.

Even though i extracted the update.zip file and put it in internal storage in dload folder. While flashing system.img i got error cant load system.img. even though it's in the same folder as adb is. There was also an error whule flashing recovery extracted from update.zip. i was flashing the recovery.img only and it says errot:too many links.

So you want your original firmware correct ? If so , go here: http://consumer.huawei.com/nl-en/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=82749
Change region (if needed) find your phone and download that.
Once you downloaded it:
1. put it on your sd card
1.1 Since when you download the file, its gonna be in .zip or .rar format, you are gonna need to extract that and what you get out of that file (its gonna be a folder called dload) put that whole thing "dload" on to your sdcard. ( put in in a main folder of your sd card its called root folder, its where your main folders are like pictures, DCIM etc.)
2. turn off your phone leave it for a sec
3. then hold all 3 buttons ( power ,volume up , volume down) and it should start installing the thing.
Hope this helps.

Hi
If you want to unlock bootloader, you have to:
- downgrade to the first version of Android provided by Huawei
- root it with one of the dozens of one-click-root tools (personally I use Kingroot)
- do what mentioned here https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/alternative-method-unlocking-bootloader-t3799294
- done :highfive:
Worked well with me, without problems

Do you mean stock ROM first version? Sure!
Only for dual SIM:
- download these two packages http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=79348&version=317012&siteCode=it and https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B7aKdgGvGVwrRHBaNVo4VHdDVk0&export=download
- put JUST THE FIRST LINK's unpacked "update.app" file inside your phone's folder "dload" (if you don't have one, create it)
- shut down the phone
- boot up the phone by keeping pressed all the buttons (Power + volume up + volume down)
- wait until the process ends
- then delete the "update.app" from your phone and replace it in the same "dload" folder with the "update.app" file from the SECOND link unpacked folder
- shut down and then boot up the phone with all buttons pressed

Most important thing: you don't have to have TWRP installed (just stock recovery)

Hi
first of all, is your bootloader LOCKED? Do you have stock recovery (=no TWRP)? (I know you are trying to get unlock code, but maybe you had brick problems and lost code)
If yes, try firstly the easiest things:
Delete update.app
Delete dload folder
Reboot
Connect phone to PC
Download again with your PC the first zip and extract it (in your PC), and then copy the dload folder in your phone
Try again
If it still doesn't work, let me know
My P8 lite has locked bootloader (technically it's my mother's phone, I want to flash it with custom rom coz it's really slow and unusable on it's stock rom). Do the bootloader was never unlocked, I do not have a code to unlock it.
What's steps should I undertake to flash it successfully?
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Root
3. Flash twrp
4. Flash rom
Is that correct? How do I unlock bootloader while Huawei stopped providing unlock codes?
I really appreciate your help in this post, thanks faby.

You have to downgrade it first to Android 5
Root it with Kingroot
In your PC, install this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 if you don't have access to ADB commands
Do then what mentioned here (after connecting your phone to your PC and enabling "USB debug" inside developer options in your P8 lite) https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8...ve-method-unlocking-bootloader-t3799294/page1
Unlock bootloader with the code you got from the above step (just follow what written in the link)
Flash TWRP
(If you want, flash custom ROM or updated stock ROM)
(If you did it, boot the ROM and then reboot to TWRP)
Flash magisk (the safest way to get root)

Hi
"Rollback" (or downgrade) is the contrary of update. So, when I said "rollback to Android 5" I meant "downgrade from Android 6 to Android 5"
You can't downgrade because you HAVE Android 5, so you have just to BACKUP EVERYTHING (because unlocking bootloader you erase all data) and follow the step-by-step guide I have written above, skipping the "rollback" step :highfive:
Less things to do :good:

Hi
Enable usb debugging inside developer options, then try again until it works (cause it works).
If it still doesn't work, download Kingroot for pc and connect phone to it.
Else, try with other one-click-root tools (as Kingoroot, there is not much imagination for names  )
Done the root, the procedure is much easier.
