Thanks! that did it for me.

I am having the same problem, but your suggestion failed to get the root to work. It just hangs at "Shell Rooting Device #7 and the software goes "Not responding" (Win 7 64 bit).
I also tried setting the exploit to zergRush with the same result.
As a matter of interest, DoomLord's Version 4 also fails with a number of errors writing files.
I had stuffed up a flash to ICS by flashing the Kernel (I was confused as to why the step was there is it was ????not needed.)
I managed to get a UK Defy+ .sbf file to install, but now I can't root it to allow me to revert to the Nandroid backup I did.
Any suggestions would be most welcome!!!! HELP...........
Cheers

Ok, but which CG version you have? Which UK Defy + sbf you mounted and what defy u use?
If it is CG7 version then to root try acc. to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013 (helpful esp. for defy red and defy +)

So you are welcome to hit a thanks button ;-)

Sure but i cant find a thanks button when i use xda android application.
Can you also give some info about custom roms? I'm planning to flash to Cm7, should i go ahead or Cm9 / Miui is better?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA

Custom ROMs are something very personal, so my opinion is only mine ;-)
I love CM7 as it is (not only my opinion) the fastest one and all works fine.
CM9 looks nicer but still lacks some features and has some bugs, and is much slower than CM7.
So my proposal is to start with last official CM7 http://get.cm/ choose jordan device or quarx' last nightly from the first post of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
I switched to CM9 of quarx or epsylon several times but each time went back to CM7.
Depending on your device (red or green) take care which kernel you use for CM9.
If you like MIUI or WIUI or some other interfaces, you can also try.

In future i recommend using Doomlord's one click root..its very simple..
just double click the file and ur phone is rooted

Resolved issue with SuperOneClick Tool not responding.

I had a similar issue when I was trying to root my Defy from Win 7 (32bit), after a few tries, I switched over to my wife's laptop which is on Win XP SP2.
Installed the ADB drivers, connected the Defy through USB (while USB debugging option was checked).
Clicked on 'Root' in the SuperOneClick Tool window.
In about a minute or so the process was done.
The phone was rebooted by the application once in the process.
And now I have a rooted device.
Used SuperOneClick 2.3.3

Signature verication failed.

Hi peeps, I'm looking to install a custom kernal like Phoenix 1.49 or Xtreme 1.0 and possibly a custom rom. Everytime I've tried to flash them via Rom Manager/CWM it says Signature Verification Failed. What am I doing wrong. Titanium Backup says I have Superuser access so I believe I still have root. I bought the paid Rom Manager so I could do all this but I am still getting this error. It's really starting to push me towards the edge. I'm off work till the 3rd of January due to knee surgery so I decided to read up on rooting and flashing custom roms and kernels. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. Someone please help me.
Thanks
Tom
Did you use the one click root with clockwork mod? You can't use Rom manager to install clockwork mod while on stock kernel. I'm not sure what steps you have done but you don't have clockwork if u did it thru rom manager
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-roms-hacks/42178-rooting-ultimate-guide-v1-0-2-a.html
This is the link that I followed to root. If I'm not supposed to post this on here I apologize. But if you have the time to check this through I would greatly appreciate it.
Tom
You cannot use ROM Manager to flash anything while using the stock kernel. Perform the following steps to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Hold down VOL DOWN + CAMERA + POWER
3. You should be in ClockworkMod Recovery (Green Text)
4. Flash Phoenix/Xtreme kernel.
5. Reboot
Now you can use ROM Manager to flash anything.
When I do that all that comes up is
Reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition.
Nothing about my kernel on my sdcard. Does it not have to be in a zip folder or something?
Oh, you never installed ClockworkMod Recovery, which is a requirement to flash 3rd party mods.
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Followed it and still the same thing
I was getting this error when I first got my epic and it was because I was booting into stock recovery (red text). Make sure you are in Clockwork Recovery (green text) as mentioned above by holding Vol down, Camera, and Power when your phone is off. Hope this helps.
That's exactly what I wasn't doing I was just rebooting from Rom Manager Manually lol. My noob mistake. I have it working and installed BakedSnack 1.6 rom any feedback on this rom or is there a better rom/kernel combo that I should use?

It's all about what you prefer. I used one of the new odin updates to install dk28 and flashed Mammon's rom and have been loving it especially after applying the gingerbread theme. I'm so content with it I don't plan on flashing anything until they get cyanogenmod or a ported gingerbread out.

I recently got a new Nexus One and loaded up 2.3 on it. The process is extremely simple, and doesn't require unlocking. Here's how to do it:
Download SuperOneClick to your PC. The only thing is to note is that the instructions have an extra step that should be skipped:
Turn USB Debugging OFF
Click Root
When it says: Waiting for Device, Turn USB Debugging ON
It'll now run RATC
When it says: Starting ADB Server...
Turn USB Debugging OFF
Turn USB Debugging ON
Turn USB Debugging OFF <- Don't do this part
All BEFORE it says "Waiting for device..." again
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
From the Android Market, install Root Checker on your phone and make sure you have root access. If so, congrats, you're rooted!
Download MicroMod's Gingerbread ROM (or any ROM of your choosing) to your microSD card.
- Note: If you're not installing a new ROM and just want to use a new recovery, you need to remove two files before installing the Recovery. See this post for more info.
From the Android Market, install ROM Manager. (Thread link for more info: Amon_RA's RA Recovery)
- Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and wait for it to finish
- Select "Flash Alternate Recovery" and wait for it to finish -> this will install the latest version of RA recovery.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Reboot into Recovery.
- Backup/Restore -> Nand backup
- Wipe -> Wipe ALL data/factory reset
- Flash zip from sdcard -> Choose zip from sdcard -> Choose the zip of the downloaded ROM
- Reboot system now
Congrats! Enjoy Gingerbread! (And future ROM'ing!)
If you're feeling generous and you like my guides, feel free to donate.

Why do you make people install clockworkmod first and RA then? I think CWM is just fine, it's up to the user. In any case, why not downloading RA one directly?

Because that's what the instructions say in the thread from Amon_RA himself; you know, the actual creator of the recovery. Notice it's a quote, directly from him.
Even this "Easy method" adds steps. You can skip half of your method by paying for Rom Manager and using it to flash Clockwork and a rom of your choosing.
The steps would then be to simply root (however you can), PAY for Rom Manager because it is just awesome, then install Clockwork and the latest CM7 Gingerbread nightly directly from within Rom Manager.
Clockwork and RA are very similar. I used to use RA and had no problems with it, but Rom Manager needs Clockwork to be really useful. I highly suggest paying for Rom manager and letting it do all the work.
Gaining root is the hard part. Flashing alternative roms is not. Once you root, it is smooth sailing.

Also, using flash_img in a terminal can be a little messy. CWM gives the whole process a nice GUI, even if you end up on Amon_RA.
CWM has toggles for signature and assert checks, which is a feature RA doesn't have (if it has, it's been implemented from CWM). BTW I think they're really the same thing, this is why I asked
EDIT: BTW Amon_RA created nothing but a fork of the original recovery, so he's not the creator, but a (heavy) modder

Try this: turn your phone OFF, load up SOC, then click "root" and wait till it says "waiting for device". THEN plug up your phone and power it on. That's what works for me. If that fails, download pda net on your N1 and PC and connect it. It'll install the correct/missing drivers, then use SOC as I mentioned above. That's how I rooted on 2.2.2

This thread was made before Gingerbread was released...
To downgrade, you follow the "Unroot/restore" guide from the wiki, using the passimg method and the FRG33 image. It works for most people, but for some reason there's a few people it just refuses to work for...

Stock ROM constant reboot on white HTC EVO 4G screen

Hi all,
Here's short history of the phone:
Friend of mine drop his on the concrete about June of last year and whole screen was cracked (not pretty). About month ago I found LCD Screen with Digitizer on ebay bought it and replaced it.
After turning it on everything was working except random reboots. Phone was not registered to any account so there was no internet only WI-FI.
So I started going into system updates and downloading HTC updates it did two of them and I think on the 3rd one it just starts to boot white HTC EVO 4G screen comes on and then it reboots.
Only pulling the battery will stop it.
This is all on stock HTC Sense ROM, rooting was never attempted!
I've searched thru the forums here but everything here relates to failed rooting process.
Can someone please make any suggestions?
Bellow is the pictures of boot loader.
Help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Followed the instruction, run RUU and it starts to check the phone after this I get error[170]: USB connection error.
I've tried over 10 times.
Step 4 says "Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your phone."
I can't even log into Sense?
The only other thing you can do is find a PC36IMG.zip and put it on your microSD card, then reboot into the bootloader. It should find it and reflash everything, the same as using the RUU.

I've tried using this method found here
I placed PC36IMG.zip in root of the SD card. But when I boot into recovery I can see for about 3 seconds on the right side status bar how it checks PC36IMG.zip file but then it goes back to recovery. It never ask me if I want to update like it says in the above tutorial "Do you want to start update?"
Any other suggestions?

I found this but its not the same place I got mine from. http://www.filecrop.com/htc-evo-4g-roms.html
Thanks for the reply!
Somewhat of a progress. I tried countless times and it always gives me USB connection error: Then I downloaded HTC Sync and and I think I went to Hboot and I heard sound on windows it seemed like phone got recognized and I was able to finish the processes. It was flashed using RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed. Then when I went to again in recovery it was again red triangle over the phone.
After that I just let it try to boot and it finally booted into HTC sense!
Turned on WI-FI and wanted to check if there's any updates and it said no updates?
This is what recoveries I've tried so far:
Amon RA 2.1.1
Amon RA 2.2.1
Amon RA 2.3 (Added 02/09/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.26.651.6 (Added 01/18/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.29.651.5 (Added 01/18/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.30.651.3 (Added 01/18/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.70.651.1 (Added 01/18/2011)
One by one I tried each one renaming to PC36IMG.zip and none of them asked me if I want to do the update. It just checks it and goes back to bootloader.
Why do I get red triangle?
What should I do now?
Help is appreciated!

[WIFI Only] [How-to] GT-P1010 Gingerbread Update

I know a lot of people are going to have problems updating to the latest gingerbread build.
PLEASE NOTE: This update will remove root but you can root again with CF-Root from second post.
ALSO, THIS PROCESS WILL WIPE DEVICE!
1) Put your P1010 into download mode (by holding POWER and VOL-DOWN):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2)I went ahead and used ODIN tool to downgrade/upgrade to the latest FROYO firmware before Gingerbread:
P1010XWKC1_OXX
(OEM Flash Guide here)
You should have the same tick marks and files loaded as in my screenshot. Be sure that the box is yellow on the right and you can initiate the firmware install by clicking 'Start'.
3) (VARIES) From there, after restart some people will experience a force close followed by a reboot loop. You will need to flash this kernel via ODIN:
P1010ZHKF1-kernel
(Flash this the same way as above but UNCHECK Re-Partition and CSC!)
4) You will then be able to boot into Froyo.
5) You will use ODIN again to install the Gingerbread update and flash just the PDA (leave CSC blank and leave Re-partition unchecked this time).
P1010XEUKPG
(Flash this the same way you flashed the Kernel in step #2)
6) After it reboots, you will have 2.3.6
7) (Optional) steps in post #2 to install CWM Recovery and Root.
I recommend installing CWM Recovery and CFRoot in the thread below:
ClockWorkMod Recovery for P1010
After you install CWM Recovery, you can do a nandroid backup and never worry about brick again! (=
Also, you can use ES Explorer to mount root and get rid of the Samsung bloatware (AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!)
For those wanting to remove the bloatware (AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!):
You can remove the bloatware with ES Explorer, there's an option to enable 'Root Explorer'. Download the latest version from the Market.
See below:
screenshots are from my Galaxy Nexus but it's the same for any Android 2.2+.
1) Go to the 'Settings' screen
2) Change home directory to '/'
3) Tick the 2 marks on the bottom
4) Browse to /system/app
5) Delete whichever app you don't want, but do it with caution (I usually move these files to /sdcard and move back if it causes any type of force close)
If you totally borked out the system in such a way that you can't boot, you can always move it back in recovery via ADB (much more complicated process but it's possible).
Also, why not do a nandroid backup before messing with deep system files?
Nice! Great topic.
Updated op! =)
this is the best christmas present so far.

If you followed those steps, the ROM runs stable without any FC's or reboots. I even have setCPU installed on mine.
Also, it's good to note that I'm running CF-Root kernel from the thread in 2nd post.
Plus, you could always downgrade if you run into issues. Just remember to always BACKUP YOUR DATA!

im getting excited about this.. is it really for the p1010 wifi only device? because from what i can see in this subforum is the devs working on the p1000 only. another thing, please don't tell me this is an official update. i don't think the bad sammy will update this little tab.
Depending on where you are freon yes it its the official ireland uk update and makes massive difference as well

sorry for the newbie question, but what's the password for the 2.3.3 file from sammobile?
edit: already found it, my bad
Interestingly, I've followed the guide exactly as mentioned above (had KC1 and the HK kernel from previous flashing) and flashed the PDA for XEU 2.3 from Sammobile, and I'm now stuck in an eternal bootloop. I like the new samsung boot music though, better than the previous one
Any suggestions?
Edit: I wiped data and cache from recovery, flashed KC1 and the Kernel and it boots fine. Checked Kies to be sure and it's offering me FW upgrade to KM2. Should I accept this FW upgrade or just persevere with flashing the new 2.3 firmware?

[Q] OTA update keeps failing to download

My wife got me a brand new A500 off ebay a couple of months ago for a Christmas gift(for me it's only three days old). So far I love it but it will not take the OTA update that it keeps bugging me about. The download starts fine but then stalls out mid download. I looked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 but did not see my current version there. Can anyone point me in the direction of the OTA I need to download and flash with recovery? My build is Acer_a500_1.145.09_com_gen1 I'm running 3.0.1. It looks like it's trying to download 4.010.11.
Further info:
According to the log the file name is Acer_A500_1.145.09_4.010.11_com_gen1_1311243587838_bd1ab95c.zip
I can't find that file anywhere on the net.
The reason I would suspect is because someone replaced the stock recovery? Off eBay you say, was it brand new and never used? It sounds like it was used or someone tampered with it?
If that's not the case, then you can just install the update manually. Download the update you want and put it on your external SDCard and then enter recovery (using power and volume). The recovery will install the update for you.

It said it was brand new. My wife would not buy something like this used. The weird thing is it knows it has an update and it starts to download and get's up to half way downloaded and then it just stops. It shows that it still is pulling data but the downloaded file size doesn't increase anymore after it stalls.
Ive been looking into rooting it and since I'm on 3.0.1 it appears Gingerbreak is all I need. The next question is what rom should I get and how do I go about installing it? I've never rooted droid before and most instructions on XDA are written for the experienced level and not the new guy. I'd like to stay fairly stock but rooted.

There are reports of others having the same issue. They say that a soft reset often fixes it.
You can use my tool to flash in 3.2.1 which is rooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539&page=14

Just to make sure I'm getting it right: I go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20680452 download that to my PC and follow the instructions contained within and I end up with a stock rooted 3.2.1? I don't need to download anything else right? A soft reset for this tab is pusing the little red button on the end by the USB port?

Yes, if you want to flash 3.2.1 stock with root read the instructions in the download. The download has everything in it.
The soft reset everyone talks about is using the paperclip in that little hole next to the USB port.

Sweet. You're a life saver. Thanks for translating it all to noob for me. Will I need to reinstall all of my apps and such afterwards?

Yes, the flashing tool makes it just like new, out of the box, but with root.

OK that's not a big deal. The SD card will remain intact though right?

I tried your method and I get stuck at the serial number part. It says ADB server out of date. What do I do?

Edit: Never mind. I got my steps out of order. I was clicking next before running test.cmd
Last edit: It appears to have worked. I'm back to the initial setup screens just like when I first got it.
