Hello,
As I can change my note easy ( corporate phone ) i make a couple of test this afternoon trying to help the devs :
- ICS chinese repack, flash new ICS with mobile Odin, No boot, stock in samsung, wipe partition, wipe data wipe cache wipe dalvik. .. Phone restarts no CWM available ( strange ) . Flash CF kernel with mobile odin. Everything ok CWM back
- Over original ICS flash CM9, flash CF kernel no boot still recovery. nandroid backup of chinese leak and working as usual again.
- ICS chinese Repack, flash GB straight without changing the kernel. No boot. wipe everything. Boots normal. Restore nandroid backup to ICS no problem either.
So two possibilities I am the most lucky man in the world ( I doubt ) or the brick only affects to some phones don't ask me why. ..
If any dev wants me to run a particular test, let me know ;-)

nothing developmental bout this thread...request for move from mods...
You could do one more test for me, drop it from ten stores building. You want to test if that will brick your lease phone?

I don't see a single reason to respond like that, but ok ... no problem with me as long as you jump with the phone
Perhaps pm chainfire and entropy.
If you are determined to brick your phone keep flashing different leaks if your counter gets to 100 we can assume your phone is immune
Fyi many of us flashed many (to many) times and got lucky but I personally will not flash another till we have confirmation of what phones are safe.

Of course I will not recommend any to do it. This is a test phone and sometimes they get brick ... So all good. Probably just a random brick and when it have to happens. . It does.

Hello everyone.
I have just bought a new samsung galaxy s3 from china. I want to unlock it and install the newest firmware, all at the beginning before i start installing applications and changing settings the way i want them. For start the phone is sim locked and in Cyprus, where i live, i have to unlock it. The only procedures i saw up to now includes root of the phone which automatically means void of warranty. I don't really mind of it but is there any way to do it without this result? How about changing the phone CSC, is that going to help or this has nothing to do with radio?
I also want to install jelly beans but iam not really sure if the official rom for this model is on the market. Any help and any links would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Yeah you have a point here but the warranty is international and i think it is valid in Cyprus too. But anyhow as i said earlier i don't really care about warranty since most of the times i fix my staff.
Congrats on your new purchase. The best Galaxy ever!
You need root privileges to do an unlock.

I doubt it. Try reading the warranty card that came with your phone. It states that the warranty is valid only in the country of purchase, AND with a proof of purchase (such as invoice, fiscal document, whatever).
Besides, since your model was bought in China, it may not be a GT-I9300, but a variant (such as GT-I9300T, or any other letter after the "9300"). That info will be under the battery, in the labels in its compartment.
If - and only if - your phone is not exactly a GT-I9300 (w/o any letter after that), flashing an I9300 ROM or kernel to it may brick the phone.
Before doing anything to your phone, read a lot fo stuff in these forums, to minimize your chance of bricking your phone, and get a greater understanding of what and why you'll be doing to your phone.
Anyhow, forget about your phone's warranty: a rooted phone is a lot better than a stock phone.
Thank you very much i will keep that in mind. As far as i know it is GT-I9300 and for the warranty i haven't read it yet but i will.
Ok i finally recieved my phone but when i opened it i was really sad to find out that the software was completely chinese! There is not even a choice to insert my gmail account so i can sync my contacts. When i tried to change the csc with the usual way (*#2372....) the only option i got was the one already installed which is the CHY. So i tried to download the SGS CSC selector app to install a european csc but the only way to download it is by google market, something that i am unable to do since there is not even the google play app in the phone!! I am really unhappy cause i was waiting for this phone for a month and now that i have it, it's all messed up...
Any ideas????

No it's an original samsung's product. But i don't know why there is no sign of google in this phone.. And there are also a lot of chinese apps installed. Btw when it boots there is a chinese screen at first and then the normal samsung's logo appears. I wish flashing a rom will get rid all of these chinese things!
Jayden what information would you like to write down for the confirmation of it's international edition??

Hi, The you find the solution because i have the same problem, please help me
So I have been restoring to stock every time I flash a new rom, even when updating, and for some reason, after going to stock with odin, my phone usually doesn't boot up, so I go to the samsung recovery and the little android guy is dead and the front door hatch thing is open with a red triangle and exclamation mark, I usually just wipe data from here and it boots, but I have always seen this and I am not sure why. Anyone know why?
Thanks
Joe
Edit* I might add that when I go to wipe, the guy stands up and it looks fine but then he goes back down.

That's normal, you almost always have to do a factory reset after Odin. Otherwise you'll get a boot loop.

If you don't know what that means than you sure as hell shouldn't be flashing Roms or anything like that because if you dont know the basics than you sure don't need to be stepping up on a course from the basics. Take your time to read before messing with your phone and end up with a $600 paperweight.

There are ODIN files available for both MDL and MF3 and with Safestrap, custom ROMS can be flashed to MF3. So it is a fair question considering the OP didn't specify. However, it appears that the OP has a Canadian variant (Canadian carrier) which means my advice about the factory reset still stands.

None of that matters. It doesn't matter what you knew about other phones, it matters what you know about THIS phone. Thinking previous knowledge of other phones is all you need will guarantee a brick with this one.

How about you read instead of someone holding your hand and telling you what it is. If you haven't heard of them than by all means I'm glad something weird happened to your stock recovery because it doesn't matter what other phones you flashed Roms on all that matters is THIS phone and if you don't know anything about this phone especially KNOX than I suggest you read.

It appears he's not asking about the meaning of, "what firmware are you on", but rather about the screwed up quote (post #6) herbzilla attempted asking, "This makes no sense to ask. He clearly states that he flashes custom ROMs and uses Odin to flash back to stock.".
Plus, he is on a Canadian carrier so "MDL" or "MF3" would mean nothing to him.
There is a lot of misunderstanding in this thread.
If I might add,he still needs to read all about his model phone .it gets tiring for some to see another thread about anything thats been covered already or is basic knowledge.

A very entitled approach. You must suffer from affluenza!
Double-posting doesn't make people help you. If nobody has responded to your first post, it's because A) they haven't been on to read it yet, or B) the people who have read it don't know how to help you.
Just wait, you'll get a response. Otherwise, bump your original post after a day or two.

When I turn my phone on it goes into boot loop. I tried accessing TWRP but it's not good either, it would just show the startup screen and nothing will happen. I don't know how this happened because my phone was working perfectly last night before I slept. I didn't charge my phone so when I woke up the battery was drained. So I plugged in my charger and turn it on, it'll just go into boot loop just like what I said earlier. Please help. I have read that I should flash stock through Odin, but where can I find it? Please help. Thanks!
Go on sammobile.com

Thanks, I actually know that I have to go to that site to download the firmware, I just needed some confirmation haha! But this here is my real (stupid-ish) question, is it possible to recover/access my data? Will it be lost after flashing?
When my device was bricked a bit times... I flashed the firmware and all my data wasn't lost it just changed the system and did not delete any data... But make sure u only flash the firmware version that was present before u bricked your device....
MOST of the times it doesn't delete any data☺

Oh that's good to hear, but what do you mean by flashing the version that was present before I bricked my device? How will I know what version was present before?

Okay, thanks! Well, I have a custom ROM before and it's version is 6 the stock firmware available is 5. What will happen then?
@leosrw It works now but unfortunately I lost my data it asks for a factory reset so yeah they're all gone. Well, no worries, they're not that important anyway. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I think so too. Well, I'm fine with loosing a bit of data. They're mostly backed up anyway. Well thanks for helping me. Now, I know what to do if there'll be a similar problem in the future. Thanks!
