hello everyone, Im back ,
Ive got my hands on a X10 and i have a DHD which is fully unlocked.
Since looking at how much the community for the X10 has developed, im quite intrigued with the "Boot / Recovery Hijacking".
After looking, im just wondering, is there a one click root option or is it a case of following my guide that i was shown 8 months ago ?
You can root super easily via flashtool... or you can use Superoneclick

Check the sticky at the top of the general section.
i had a feeling super one click would work , my X10I is currently locked to orange on 1.6 stock, it ****e like haha
is superoneclick a generic rooter? or is it specfic to X10i?
If it has 1.6 STOCK i think z4root will work for you. Just install the apk and click on permanent root and you'll be done.
then you'll have to flash any 2.1 Update in order to install Xrecovery
jimbo ill get to 2.1 xd lol
Hi all ,
i remember there was way to root devices with locked bootloader in Nexus S through (fastboot the recovery).
so is this way applicable here in X play 2.3.3 ??
thanks
Simple answer is no. It seems that most rooting methods available do not work atm. Gingerbreak only worked due to a hole being left in the stock fw. 2.3.3 fixed this hole so now we are back where we started. If you want root atm the only way to attain it would be to unlock your bootloader and flash the rooted .img

it is only root matter ... but in general the device performance and battery usage been improved in 2.3.3 as i noticed
any how ... i need the root only to access US market and uninstall some preinstalled apps.
so lets wait for the new root

same here, seem like the 2.3.3 did improve batt alot, maybe is me, but did you notice the phone auto switch to edge data when the batt running low? well, it could be me only...
I cant wait for the root so i can removed the bloatware... is jamming my menu, so i use launcher pro to hide it all.. ah....

It is now possible to get root with 2.3.3 on the Xperia Play with a locked bootloader, via flashtool:

Unless you've got a R800x model then you're stuck on non root and 2.3.2 until the provider ships out an update and then there's still no rooting the phone. Afaik it's verizon that has that model.

hi
is there any way to root xperia plat 2.3.3 A.....386 without unlocking boot loader
or , i have to unlock it , cause gigngerbreak 1.2 is not working on xperia play.
or can i unlock ==> root ==> relock and , have lock and rooted xperia play ?if i do that , maybe hurt the bootloader ? (( damaged bootloader )) ?
i think that is global question and appreciated for anyone that answer it
if you dont want to unlock the bootloader, you will have to downgrade to 3....145 (i think it ends in 145) and straight after first boot, before doing anything else, run gingerbreak, and then you can upgrade via OTA. if .368 is available for ota, that is. personally, i'd unlock bootloader and either install doomlords kernel or run the fastboot CWR module. main difference being (just an assumption), if you just run the cwr method, you can then relock the bootloader after updating
here's the fastboot recovery. if you use it, please remember that you must NOT flash this one. it is purely a run once method. and you can then keep the stock kernel:

thank you so much for your help .
i've did this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098131 before and worked prefect , but i hear that SE want to deploy a new update , i flashed and relocked my phone again tu access SEUS.
but my question is , if i unlock and root my phone , then relock it via fast boot , after relocking root will remove/disapear or still working ??
if still working , so that is best way to have root xperia play and use sontericsson update service.
i apppreciated again if somebody update me on this case .
thanks
i believe you will still have root access after re-locking the bootloader. but whether you will still have root after updating via seus, i honestly dont know. but to be fair, the speed the guys on this forum work at, you will probably have access to a flashtool compatible update before you know it's even out
hang on, you got an R800x?
The only way to preserve root when updating is OTA.

but after relock can i keep the root option ? and update via SEUS ?

the r800x is a tad different in methods, and i'll be a little more cautious on my advice for you. but i can confirm that root remains after OTA update, as i had to use this method a few weeks ago, before i had my fastboot activated. but remember, bootloader must be re-locked before any official update methods (sorry if i keep repeating this, i just get paranoid in a protective way)
and regarding the blog you linked. they said last year that the x10 will not be officially updated above 2.1. a few months later, after the play, arc and neo came out, they changed their mind. twice. not only did they say that they were gonna give us (i was a x10 owner up until last month) gingerbread with just stock android apps, they then ended up releasing 2.3 with optimised sony ericsson versions of some apps, like the camera so dont believe things too early

I think you should ask these questions in the r800x dev thread as there would be a bigger chance for some clear yes or no answers. I haven't read that thread and as @solitarymonkey says the r800x rooting and unlocking is a tad different to the r800i, so can't really advice in that direction on wether you'll stay rooted and if you can just relock and update through SEUS as on the r800i. Just take a look in the dev section and you'll find the thread about r800x
Regards Dousan...
just be careful with your root if you use seus. if you can do ota, please do so, as root retention is tried and tested (on the r800i, and i'm guessing the r800a, too)
ok , thanks my friends
my phone is R800 i , i've rooted that 2 weeks ago and turnd it back to SE stock just for next update .
thank you again
Is it possible to use GingerBreak on the 3.0 ROM, then use SE PC Companion to update to the 4.0 ROM and keep root? My carrier doesn't do OTA updates so I can't use it.
I've heard that it breaks root when done over seus. But I haven't tried it out myself to verify. The worst you can do is try, lose root, and reflash the previous fw with flashtool and get root back.

Is it possible to backup my own "old" firmware?
If you mean the whole system image. You will need the bootloader unlocked and use the clockwork recovery fastboot tool to create a nand backup. Or you can download one of many back up apps from the market that can create back ups of your apps and data.

Using SEUS or PC Companion is the same as flashing with flashtool. You'll get a fresh and clean install of the firmware and everything get's eraesed in that process (nothing get's touched on the sdcard)

gingerbreak is not working on 2.3.3 ,
we should unlock the bootloader , ther root it , thern relock it and wait for new update via OTA/ pc companion / SE update service .
there is another way , i've read this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090&page=3
but i think it's better to DON't downgrade the x-play , cause most of people on that post had problem .
i want to start new way : unlock== > root ==> relock (( i hope after relock my root remain ))
All your looking for is root?

hi does anyone out there got gingerbreak working on xperia play 2.3.3
without downgrading ROM. and ota. would love to be able to root without flashing to a previousROM as to scared incase of bricking phone.
help would be appreciated. thanks
The exploit that Gingerbreak roots the phone through was patched in the 2.3.3 update. The only other way is to either use the auto root fastboot method, or flash one of doomlords kernels which is prerooted. But obviously, you will need an unlocked bootloader for that
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Gingerbreak can still be used granting you downgrade to the very first ROM the Xperia PLAY came with, and that's 2.3 then OTA upgrade to keep it updated.
Why are you afraid? It's so damn easy you can use WotanClient or FlashTool. Besides, you will never have to unlock bootloader since you're not up to flashing ROMs and so i presume...
thanks for the reply. shame about gingerbreak not working as that would have been my preferred choice to root.looks like i will have to downgrade ROM at some point. need to get this bloatware off my phone and give me some memory back.
I've flashed roms before on my xperia x10 using flash. which was easy to do and worked
just don't want to brick my brand new fantastically brilliant xperia play.
Could someone tell the story about "Downgrading to lightening speed 2.3.4 (LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42.ftf)
from donkey speed ICS (LT18_4.1.A.0.562_NCB.ftf) " on xperia ARC step by step please?
But the replies including the story must be done and tested before with satisfactory not possibilities pls..because potentiality cause to die our leading man named ARC so the story ends with bad end..
I flashed .42 with Wotanclient (wotanserver.com), but its not free (€1,99).
Then i rooted with Zergrush exploit Toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350) and installed CWM.
After that i did an OTA upgrade to .62 (root is preserved).
I did a factory reset after above just to make sure its fresh as can be.
End of my story
Cheers

Download Flastool from here
Download Desired firmware from here
example LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.42 Generic Global World
Flash with flashtool... easy
I already have all the files and roms I need...
All I want to know is that downgrading with the same way is safe?
because when we wanna downgrade on Playstation 3 then its gonna get non-returnable bricked..
I know this is a mobile phone but I want to be sure..thats all
so Im gonna flash with this original rom LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_(1247-1041).ftf again via flashtool 0.7.0.0 on my ARC LT15i..one more question
which options should be ticked ? wipe user data, wipe cache vs..?
