The problem that you are facing is a busted flex cable. I'm posting this thread because I have seen in the past week at least 5 people ask what the white screen is, and how to fix it. Here is a video on how to take apart your play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE and here is a link to where you can buy a new flex cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flex-Cable-Ribbon-Connector-for-SONY-ERICSSON-XPERIA-PLAY-Z1-Z1i-R800-/180869752159?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1cad655f#ht_1547wt_1185
The only way you can avoid the flex cable damage is to keep from sliding your gamepad in and out all the time. So basically, just try to do it if you are actually going to be playing a game, not just something you do because you are bored.
I hope this helps anyone with that problem!
Thanks. Does this mean sliding up slowly as well yeah ?

Basically It's every time it slides. Just don't sit there rapidly opening and closing it.

I have that problem. It still works perfectly when I open the gamepad, so I don't care.

I'd order a new one soon, because eventually it breaks with it open too.
i have a different problem
first my screen would come on but the phone was on and working etc
but the screen stayed black
if i kept pressing power on button or the hardware keys it would come back on sometimes
or if i restarted the phone
but now the screen wont come on at all, i power the fone on and it vibrates
and then it vibrates again and power buttons goes blue for a short time i think to signal that doom kernel has loaded and that u can go to recovery
but that it.
phone is dead
Wow, this is a huge problem. Is this happening to a lot of launch-buyers?
I don't know what your problem is...It might be your LCD
Ah, I have this, but its only partially down the left side of the screen, about 20px

Thank you for the video, I just push the conection and works.
Sorry for my English
Sony repaired my flex cable for free, although i unlocked my bootloader with a key from their website. So if you still have warranty on your device you don't have to fix it your self and lose your warranty completely.

I had a similar problem with my MDA. I disassembled it thoroughly reconnected everything solidly and still nothing.
I kinda thought about the Archie Comics where Archie used to kick his Jolopy evertime it would not start and then it would. So I turned the MDA with it's WHITE SCREEN on and then slapped it hard against my thighs. Nothing happened. I slapped it hard again and IT WORKED. It has not gone white screen on me since.
That happened 2 months ago.

Hi!
Try pressing hard on the body at the bottom right corner of the screen, if image appears it means that the screen connector is loose, had the same problem, I placed i small peace of sticky tape on the top side of connector then plug it back in again, now i dont get white screens.
My ROM is NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9 V1.1
The last thing I did was watch a video on YouTube (Application). I then got a black screen the next time I tried to unlock it, this has happened a few times with this ROM so I normally just soft reset it by taking out the battery.
However this time I did it again and my phone turned on, but was constantly black. It vibrated as if it was turning on but did not do any boot logo. Tried booting it into the tri-color screen and nothing still.
I have realised though that it is still booting up, and working like normally, but the screen is just black, it is a lighter black as if it's responding if I press a button. I managed to unlock my phone by doing my pattern, and I can hold the home button and feel a vibration, so I know it has booted into Android.
I'm just really not sure what to do, I've looked all over the forums and found one similar problem but no solution. I think I can get into the tri-color screen if I hold down vol down but it won't show the screen, I just know it is in the screen as I see the light is constantly a light black as if it is constantly on.
Shall I try Task29 or does anyone have any idea what I should do?
Edit*
I can now run AndroidScreenCast and operate my phone from my PC. I can control my phone as if i was normally, but the screen is just black. Like I said it turns onto a light black when anything happens but hat's it. Is it just my screen afterall? (It has been cracked for over a year now but no problems upto now..)
My guess is that you accidently disconnected the output cable from phone to display.
This should be the issue since there seems to be no screen but interactive elements.

Any idea if I can do anything about that myself?

Hmm the cable is right under the hardware buttons.
You can try pressing around them to have a chance of getting it back (no guarantee and if you break your display its not my fault).
If you are experienced enough you could remove the LCD but I don't know anything about that.

yes, you could be the ribbon cable connector to the motherboard, you must fully remove the display and see if the latch on the cable connector is closed.
Also check if the cable is securely attached to verify you see two small ends' near the copper plug is attached to the plastic connector on the motherboard.
good luck

If i press inside the red area (including home button) it wont work and its just like i pressed the near side, like icons in the left or right of that red area.
I tried full data wipe, cache and dalvik, tried flashing newer sbf and no good.
Do you guys have any idea on it?
Thanks
Bad news bro.
I'm pretty sure its a hardware problem, the screen must be damaged...
So i need to replace it?

Better to get a new phone =D
a new phone is your option coz replacing the screen would cost you alot while you can get a better phone in a few bucks more!
New screens are available on amazon for 12 pounds (at least I spend this much)
However It may be a signal cable. They starts from 30$ on ebay
There are disassembly videos on Youtube.
I had a similar problem and I did the replacement two months ago and it works.
I bought the screen digitizer with tools on eBay.
Be sure That you have a torx3 beca use it didn't came on the tools! ;P
I had the same problem... I sent to the Moto Assistance and the had to change the touchscreen for a now one.
Good luck!
Not the cable. If the cable was damaged, it would shut down the entire screen. It's a problem with the digitizer. Hopefully for you it's relatively easy to exchange it, but you'll damage the camera sticker, the top panel of back side, above the battery and the speaker grid sticker (all of those are glued to the phone) in order to open it. Doesn't matter the way you take them over, you'll always damage it. Might wanna buy some of these on ebay too, although I'm not sure they sell it.
I had the exact same problem with my first M2, it was still under warranty but Moto took sweet 15 days to exchange it, and they returned my phone with a stuck volume rocker. Had to send it again, they took more than 15 days this time, so I asked for a replacement.

Hey guys, I'm making this thread basicly just to vent I sent my DHD in for repairs in late march because the volume rocker had come loose and it would be fixed under warranty, no biggie the phone did take a couple of weeks to get fixed but I knew that when I sent it in, now when I got it back I immediately tried to start it at my dealer but the phone wouldn't start I thought Oh well prob didn't have allot of battery when I put it in. So I came home but in the charger and turned it on, to my surprise they had tried to update my fw it failed and I was left with a phone that only had access to HBOOT, since it was fully functional when I put it in for the repairs (Stock rom S-ON) I took it right back and they tried to flash it at the dealer to no avail, I once again had to be without my phone for a few weeks, now this thursday I finally got word that my phone was ready to pick up *YAY* (they changed the mainboard) I was quite happy since I had been given an old desire bravo as a loaner while mine was being repaired thinking oh happy happy joyjoy these last two days having my phone back.
Now this evening when I went to look at the clock on my phone I saw right away some strange artifacts on the screen like green is bleeding through? I tried to restart right away and when the phone shows the htc logo the first time around it's clear no artifacts perfect white and green, and then as soon as it enters the OS the ****ups start to appear, what could be causing this?
I'm sorry for this wall of text but my patience for htc is wearing quite thin now and I'm not thinking I will ever buy another handset from them again
a still taken in the game Dream Hights on my dhd

I have no idea why imageshack has the seccond picture upside down but you get the picture
Sounds like they botched the repair job.
theres either a break or a short in the displays ribbon cable
dude, if you've sent your phone twice, you should tell them to give your money back and you have right to do so. Once you do that, get yourself a dual or a quad core
Hello people.
I need help to decide if I should try to save my nexus 4 or not. It has been dismantled for the past half a year and i recently got it to show signs of life after battling the steady red ring of death. (Was simple by the way, just used a wireless charger for a couple of minutes) But if I turn it on, it vibrates, the screen lights up and that is just about it. So i have no idea if the phone itself is functional. Some of you might tell me not to bother with such an old phone, hell, they aren't even sold anymore. But this phone has stuck by me through thick and thin, and has a sentimental value. I nearly jumped of joy when it showed signs of life after such a long time. I am not a rich man, so i need to manage my finances. Screen replacement would cost me 25 pounds, back housing would be another 10, but what if the phone is still not functional? Is there any way I can find out if I should take the gamble?
Some info -
I am not entirely sure if there is an OS currently installed on the device, as I was experimenting quite a bit before the battery run its coure.
I am also missing one of the connector things that are circled (there is one and a broken spot where another one should be) but i have no idea what it connects to. The little peg itself is safe and sound in my possession, if it can be welded back. It connects to whatever is under the power button on the back housing.

The screen is cracked in three places, but was working the last time I remember. But there have been many (and I mean many) dis and re assemblies since then.
I probably love this phone more than my friends and family. Just want my favourite piece of tech to be my companion again.

Thankls for the reply. The battery is new and the red light issue is sorted. The phone just doesnt do much more other than vibrate and light up the screen. How do i know if it is still worth investing money in is the real question.
