Hey everyone I have been monitoring the price of the Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 daily from late November 2011 and its amazing that this phone has climbed from basically $499.99 to now over $600 on ebay and $559 and $569.
I think the increase in price which is due to its overwhelming demand is a testament to how great the product is but sadly it really prevents me from going in on the experience because I cant afford it right now.
The price trends do leave me wondering how much further the price can go though.
Any thoughts?
Meh nothing compared to ehat happened to the Leo (my fave phone i ever had). Prices in the states are different and ebay isnt a good price guide, I see this for £600 when released now you can get it from carphone whorehouse for about £400 on pre pay

Ok I see your point im not in the US actually but I mostly buy electronics from the US. Can you point me to site or person that sells the i9100 for a good price outside the USA?
As I said id love to join the android party with a i9100 asap but the price is prohibitive for me. I have been using a N95 8gb for 4 years now so im in need of a change.
To be honest, I'm tired of S2, I wanna really something fresh like S3...

Hasn't the Thailand floods last year have something to do with this? One of the largest manufacturers of semiconductors used in mobile devices is located there (I think it's Hana Electronics). And I've seen the same trend in other electronic markets. I've been trying to purchase a Canon 60D slr and stores are having a hard time getting them.
The Thailand floods could have something to do with it but im seeing declines in other similar models.
The prices for most of android devices climbed up a bit after release of latest iphone, I see that that release was mostly disappointment for everyone, there's nothing in it that can beat sgs2 or some other android tops. That's why prices gone up. Android has more potential for future.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Maybe this is specific to different countries because on say eBay in Ireland and the UK ive noticed a slight drop in the price, nothing major but you can pick up a SGSII for €370 if you search and if you get lucky on fleabay you may even get it cheaper.

This is also true, despite the release of the Galaxy Nexus it still doesn't beat this phone, no micro SD card facility was a shocking emission, the Galaxy Note whilst a serious piece of kit is just far too big for most people for a phone, the size of this phone is perfect even slightly bigger but it the Galaxy S3 was as big as the Note i wouldn't buy it but i don't think it will be.
got it right on. There is not a single android phone that runs as smoothly as the sgs2-especially out of the box. I have been due for an upgrade for a while and just dont want to use it just yet. As far as the Nexus, had it for a day and promptly gave it back. I dont care what anyone says, its laggy as hell if you're coming from the exynos sgs2.
I bought my i9100 for 529.99 @ ebay unlocked tho
I use it without any problem, I'm from Ecuador.
In Ireland you can pick one up for under 350€.I got mine brand new for 340 and unlocked it myself , saved myself 300 euro by not going to a shop.

Bought mine for $3900 HKD a few months ago, dropped to $3800 or even more right now.
$3900 HKD = $502USD
$1USD = $7.8HKD
Good 'nuf because I sold my iPhone 4 for $3200HKD and added $700HKD for the SGS2.
I9100 model has very high demand which Samsung cannot meet, hence they are replacing it with slightly different I9100G model. Due to this the proce of I9100 has increased. Atleast thats the case here in India. You no longer spot I9100 here, only I9100G.
i bought mine for 400€ in an online shop from the netherlands in december, i also recently noticed the price rose to 440€ already in a month!

Yes thats true. even here in malaysia. about rm100 more. U need to know the guy in order to get it and if u do, it'll be an open box.
I still went ahead with the "G" and never looked back on this decision.
Prices are actually going down here.
Even in local shops, the S2 goes for 435,-€ at the moment, stock, sealed, unlocked.
Sorry if this is wrong forum, but I am looking at buying a tablet, and I was thinking about getting one of these cheapo chinese tablets.
The specs are higher than the specs for tablets made by samsung or motorola and for less than half the price so I was wondering what I should be looking for when deciding between one china tab and another one. Any tablets someone recommends running ICS?
Thanx!
You get what you pay for man...build quality and dev will be low
If you want to go cheap, you can just buy a used Nook Color for around $100.
You can also easily score a Dell Streak 7 or a Acer A100 for less than or around $200 on eBay.
There were refurb HTC Flyers posted a few weeks ago for 189$ shipped after coupon code...
Just shop around
I just did a post about a tablet I got on Amazon. It has to be Chinese made for the price, but I love it. Works great for me and seems to be a LOT like my friends Kindle fire. Here's the link to the thread with specs.
If you can, you should wait for the google tablet by Asus coming out in a few month. The price is not bad at all and I'm sure there's going to be a ton of Dev support.
Like dude said, with Chinese tablet you get what you pay for. Not worth it in the long run.

If you want performance, specs, and dev support on the cheap, you're going to want to pick up a HP Touchpad off CL or eBay. If you shop around you can get a 16 gb for around $150 and a 32 GB for about 2 bills.
10" screen, dual core, awesome speakers, dual boots Android ICS and WebOS, practically unbrickable. Made by a credible company who sporadically decided to stop making tablets and sell all of their stock for pennies on the dollar. That's going to be your best quality, cheap tablet.

I disagree. I was looking for a lower priced tablet, preferably running ics and have good support. I found www.eforchina.com and browsed thru their stuff. I found the Ainol novo 7 Elf. A 7" tabled running ics, with a cortex a8 allwinner cpu 1,2 ghz. 1gb of ddr3 ram, hdmi and usb ports. All that for 125 euro's. I figured i may be disappointed, but we'll see. When i got it, i couldnt be more pleased with it. Its fast, there is plenty of support, its got everything except a big pricetag. I know have three of these in my family. All work pefectly. Hope this helps.

Hello everybody,
Recently i have been looking at a load of tablets as I am interested in buying one soon. Now I al interested in the iPad 2, the Sony tablet s and the Asus transformer + WiFi.
I want to have a tablet to watch movies, play games, read books and make notes. And I just like the look and specs of this tablet as far as I could have seen and read.
I would like to know from you guys if there are things you dislike about the device or totally love. I have used the Sony tablet s and the ipad 2 but can't get my hands on this device. So Any feedback from you guys is welcome.
Regards

I love it. But only thing that i dislike is the Frame around the glass. It makes some sound if you "bend" it and stuff.. But nothing else to complain and the Prize $ is just great..
Also one problem is light bleed that i only have in 1 corner and its small and i really cant see it but in dark and when im watching movie but i doesnt bother me anymore at all : P
And eaven tf101 only has 2 cores its amazing fast afted ICS : P
-This is just My opinion.....
I bought myself a Transformer Prime for Christmas. Returned it after the GPS and wifi problems, bought a Lenovo K1 at a deal. It was slow and buggy and Lenovo's arrogance was overwhelming, with support totally lacking, so I returned it. I bought a barely used mint Transformer TF101 32GB with keyboard, locally for $325. It has no light bleed or any other problems and I love it!
The Prime was my biggest disappointment. But the original Transformer has restored my faith in Asus!
Wow.. my story is pretty much exactly the same as thomslik's.. except I payed $350.. grrr..
Anyway, I'm loving my TF101 and, for me, the ICS update has been problem free.
I would NOT recommend getting the iPad 2, it's much more limited than Android tablets.. especially with the keyboard dock on the Transformer.
The transformer is great not a problem out of it. I was gonna get the ipad 3rd generation but I don't want a big ipod that's all it is.
I like it. Good screen and fast. I wouldn't pay more then 300 for it at this point tho.
Best device i have ever brought myself so far i have a tiny bit of light bleed but everything else is perfect.
Its fast and does all the things you want to use it for also very very customisable i use a custom launcher themes apps system and kernel all to my preference

It still sells just about everywhere for 399 brand new. Why do you feel the price isn't justified now? Any reason besides having been out for a while? I think for what it offers compared to other tabs it has held its value quite well.

Because it will become outdated pretty soon. It's almost at the end of the one year cycle.
If anyone, living in the USA, buys a TF101 for $399 at this point, they have some terrible shopping skills. Refurbs are at $300 or lower. Even brand new 16GB ones are around $350.
I got mine "Used - Like new" from Amazon for like $240 a couple months ago.

I bought mine on the 17th from Fry's as they price matched an online site that was selling it for $349 w/ free shipping. I will say this site (bhphotovideo.com) was the only site I could find that was that cheap and not a refurb. Every other one I found short of eBay, who I refuse to use, was right around $399.
And not to split hairs but to that point, $350>$300 which is what I was originally quoting. My point is old or not, if the product still currently sits well compared to what's out now, I think it's worth it.
I'm just trying to determine whether to hold onto mine at this point but that's for another discussion...

Yeah. My only other option it seemed right now was either a Galaxy Tab or iPad 2 and the latter option is really not a consideration, but it was within the price range.
I'm digging the unit but as you said, it's all new to me. I'd love to see something solid on the near horizon as it might convince me to return this and wait but so far it's all just rumors and speculation.
Acer's quad core tablet is on presale for $449.99
In 2-3 months you will see 7 inch quad cores for $250.
Android 5.0 coming out in Fall.
So it depends on how badly you want a tablet right now.
Thanks everybody, I just ordered the 101 version without 3g, it is 400 euro in holland. But for the same price you get the ipad 2 or the Sony tablet. So I think its worth the price.

the iPad 2 is really nice but with the transformer you can install roms like nintendo 64, ps2, etc and play for hours on end. the whole stretch thing is pretty retarded with the iPad 2 and after a while really annoying.
I love both but if I could only have one it'd definitely be the transformer.

Hey guys ! I wanted lately to buy a used in good shape N4 , i find it to be a bit overpriced on ebay and amazon compared to the play store price (price is 50 bucks more) , and since in my country the play store doesnt exist i can only buy it from amazon and ebay !
So what do you think is a good price for it ?? im searching for a 16gb model , i think 8gb is not enough or is it ??
Thanks in advance
yes you are right, the reason your find them on ebay and amazon priced higher is probably becasue the seller will ship internationally, and is still cheaper then buying in their home country, or for what ever reason google does not sell in that country, OR the seller is counting on buyers who have a amazon store card or billmelater with paypal, and can finance it without having to get a real credit card, there are tons of reasons, those are the only ones i can think of now.
also i wouldnt pay more then $300 for a used 16gb nexus 4, i mean, for 50 bucks more you can get a new one, with a warranty!
since the nexus 4 is so different then its competitors and undercut them all in terms in price, it makes it an unprecedented popular "affordable" smart phone, with unprecedented pricing by 3rd parties. solid design and great phone, but a "cheap" device in terms of specs when compared to the S3 which is selling used for $300 right now.
even though it might be more difficult then normal to find, keep looking, as its the internet... and the 16gb models should be better priced then the 8gb's from what i've seen.
i had a 8gb nexus that i lost in the back of a taxi, it was a steller phone, though 8gb is not enough. though i did start to use streaming services like plex for video, and subsonic media server for my music and everything worked fine with internet, and could sync if i knew i would be without.
hope this helps
k
Have you tried Swappa? Some people will ship internationally. I just bought a Nexus 4 with accessories for $330. I know some people will say that's more than it should be, but it's basically brand new. If I ordered on Play between shipping and taxes I would've paid at least $50 more. I'll pocket the $50 for a phone that looks brand new.
Good luck.

Gee, I wonder why sales are below expected in the US? Could it be Best Buy's epic failure at promoting the product? The people at BB should be running the NSA; they're better at keeping secrets.
Maybe LG should just rename it the Area 51 Pad...lots of people have heard of it but BB continues to deny it's existence.
No kidding! The Best Buy help weren't aware of it and took forever to find it in "the cage".
LG has officially jumped the shark.
I don't know who is to blame LG or Best Buy or both but it does make you scratch you head in wonder how they plan to sell this tablet based on current marketing an store display. Why give Best Buy an exclusive if they don't plan to display it and sell it? They need to get this in more stores out on display. They also need to drop 30-50 off the price here in the states if they want it to sell it needs to be cheaper than the first iPad mini and the Samsung Tab 3 8 regardless of the specs and it being a better product most Americans don't know specs they know brand name and price.
Ya, BB has this thing in their phone department next to the G2. Like what?
They need this over with the other tablets, let alone the other 8" tablets. Luckily I knew where to look so i can get a hands on before deciding on a purchase online
The two BB near me do not even have it out in the phone area they have a picture of it in the G2 display but not the actual device.
It does feel like that what is otherwise a fantastic tablet will again fail to sell properly. Just like the Samsung 7.7 did in its time. You have to wonder...
BB has no interest in promoting specific products. If the G Pad fails, it makes no difference to them. They are just as happy selling an iPad or a Samsung Note. LG is the one who loses when this product is a flop. It's up to LG to make sure that retailers sell the product. If they made the product attractive to BB, then BB would sell it. The real problem is that LG has not advertised the product, they've priced it too high, and they haven't provided the right incentives to retailers.
A retailer isn't going to give shelf space or attention to a product that is as poorly marketed as the G Pad. If a lot of people were coming into the store asking for it, BB would pay more attention. It's LG who's keeping the product a secret. BB is just following their lead.
And why are BB and Newegg the only authorized dealers?? Why isn't Amazon, Target, Costco, Sam's Club and Walmart selling this? Where are the magazine and TV ads? The billboards? The point of sale kiosks, etc? LG seems to have no serious interest in this product. Any product that was as poorly marketed as this one would fail in the market.
At least my local Best Buy has a white one up for display *in the phone section* away from all the other tablets and readers.

I got mine on release date. They didn't have any on display and only one left in stock (other than the one that the guy tried to sell me the display unit and then noticed the computer said it was $1000 for it).
I visited my local Best Buy last night and they still don't have it on display (in tablet or phone area) or in stock. I really don't understand why LG has dropped the ball on this but it seems to be in line with about every other mobile company minus Apple and Samsung. Every display other than the Apple and Samsung displays looked cheap and run down. The Nexus 7 display looked fine, but they have a demo running on all of their models so you can't even get a real feel for how it works. If LG would put a nice display in the tablet area, these things would sell fast. I just hope enough sell to have a decent development community.
LG must not. want to be successful. they had it on display only at. best buy with the mobile phones. No advertising, ovepriced and lackluster support.
Whose poor ideas were this? only. 1 retailer in the US?

Apparently, US sucks *JOKE*
Here in Europe you can get your G Pad in 95% of all the electronics shops. Its really strange what's going on in the US...
I don't know how well the tablet is selling worldwide but at the biggest electronics store here in Zurich, I think it's doing quite well with the Black version sold out and only a few white versions left. Of course, this could be due to low stock to begin with, I'm not sure. I really hope it does well because I just got mine and it's probably one of the best electronic gadgets I have ever bought.
I'm no stranger to Android (although I haven't spent a great deal of time on the latest hardware such as the HTC One, G2 or Galaxy S4) but I was always a little disappointed by the promise of "buttery smooth performance" from the Jellybean. I have a One X and also another tablet from Pipo running the RK3188 so it's no slouch but both are not what I would call a smooth experience (although my One X became a heck of a lot better after flashing Cyanogenmod). I originally came from iPhones and iPads so I was very disappointed in this regard.
Now with the G Pad, I finally know what "buttery smooth" feels like on an Android. The machine is just incredible with next to no interface lag at all and all the apps zip around without any effort. The Wi-Fi strength is also incredible, picking up my router from distances that my One X, iPad mini or iPhone 4S could never have.
For the sake of LG, I hope it really does well. They deserve it and will hopefully release more products like this in the future.

As you pointed out low stock could mean heavy selling or it could mean low stock. Considering the way it started off in the US, i.e., few retailers and high prices, I'm inclined to think that LG does not have a lot of capacity to manufacture the units. Currently, we're seeing more discounting in the US and few more options for retailers, but it is still not widely sold. Could be that the situation will get better as they produce more units.
Awesome tablet but I just returned mine to BestBuy. I've been burnt before buy buying a killer device that no one else bought. Software updates don't come and accessories don't fit. Very sad that LG made this ridiculous exclusive distribution deal.

Well Said Woody.
Fast forward to the present and it's still the same.. BestBuy could care less about this Tablet.. a lot of sales reps still don't know about it and it's still to this day not on display..
And that's sad.
I have posted similar thoughts about lack of promotion and availability for this tablet in other forums. It's very strange to have such a product available only at one B&M retailer (BB), and one online store (Newegg), and as a GPE version. With that approach you would think LG would have dumped a bunch of money into promoting the G Pad at BB. I've seen enough complaints in the reviews at Newegg (and elsewhere for units purchased from Newegg) to think they were chosen to handle the returns, refurbished units, and otherwise 'unclean' units.
Having said that, our BB started displaying a black version and a white version G Pad a couple of weeks ago. Last week they price matched Newegg's $280 for the black version for me when they were selling theirs for $350. The sales rep I got knew all about the G Pad and started trying to sell me on it but I already knew everything I needed to know.
Now VerizonWireless has started to sell it as well, with LTE. That could be a breakthrough for this tablet, especially with the pricing model they have ($100 with a 2 year contract through tomorrow, $149 after that, and $300 with no contract). Those prices are pretty enticing, I think, especially compared to BB's $350 everyday price for the WiFi only model. It will be interesting to see what happens with this tablet now that VW is in the picture.
Another thought. I've wondered, especially since the GPE came out, if maybe the G Pad is a trial run for a Nexus 8 replacement for the Nexus 7 and maybe a new Nexus 10 as well that a lot of folks are waiting for. Google got a lot of heat for the issues many folks had with the Gen2 Nexus 7 built by ASUS. Maybe they are testing the waters with LG for their next generation Nexus tablets and they and LG aren't necessarily concerned about how much money they make from this one. Just a thought.
