Who's game?
First off, the intention of this thread is to create donations to get the masterful "Mr.Sense", TommyTomato a spanking new EVO LTE. In the least to help fund his purchase and show our appreciation for the phenomenon that is Tommytomato, and all of his countless good deeds and works for this community.
I'm pledging $20. I'll be honest, I haven't done my homework, as soon as this post is placed I'm finding where to donate and will post a confirmation code. I make no stipulations, you can post the same or not, it would be nice to track where this stands monitarily so I can request to close this thread when full retail is reached.
I AM NOT ASKING TO COLLECT DONATIONS! Make them direct, this is the internet after all you don't know me.
So lets do this. With the literal thousands of fans and followers it can be as little as 5 bucks a person to make this happen.
So you wanna give back to the community? Here's your chance. Do it.

this is an extremely nice gesture! I'm honored you'd post this and at the same time hope people know that I do not do android-related stuff for donations.
I just want to add a disclaimer that I am not expecting donations for any promised work done on any device. If this was my full time job then naturally I can make those promises, but please do not use your moneys on me in the hopes that I do anything in return.
Any donations should come no strings attached. But all of you are dearly cherished.
Doesn't mean that I won't contribute. hehe. I had the same disclaimer for the gang over on the 3d forums. It just makes me feel weird to be receiving nice gifts. lol.
Thanks Jamie

Haha, exactly why I posted this Tommy. You are so very generous with your time and knowledge, and I knew you would NEVER ask for donations. So believe me friend, I have no expectations for my donation, but I also know, if you do get an EVO LTE, you won't be able to resist the urge to share some goodness.
Besides, if just one quarter of your followers donated a dollar a piece.... WOW bro, you could probably get a new server or two and then make a sight I could host some of my humble work!
And yes I know this exists already, but all the same! Cheers bro!

I'm there.
I don't generally do any online transactions because I don't bank and therefore don't have a debit card. BUT, today, I put 300 and change on a prepaid visa to order Evo LTE and gnex. There should be a small chunk left, and it'll go to tommy. I won't know how much for a couple hours, but I'll be back. If EVER a dev deserved donations, it's tommy by a mile! Of course there's no strings attached. Tommy has ALREADY provided this community with an INSANE amount of time and knowledge and taught a lot of people. Tommy deserves every good that comes his way. Thanks, tommy.

Tommy is good people, and a talented dev to boot.
If I hadn't just pre-ordered my new LTEvo for the unsubsidized price, I would've already donated to this worthy cause. But with that, and my 5-year anniversary coming up this week, it'll have to wait.
But mark my words, I will be back & donate something, even if it isn't that much. I look forward to this new device, and the devs that will be working on it!
Current ROM (Boot Manager Pro ROM 1): EVO Classic Supermagic v0.0.9 Preview | Kernel: Classic v1.3 SBC
Can't help at this time but I am a huge fan of your work... You will be getting a note or two from me in the future... Hell I may even send you my Evo when I upgrade just so you have an extra to play with

Congrats on your anniversary! Man the devs so far that I know of are xHAUSx, Preludedrew, and there's a rumor kushdeck as well. There's other greats I'm sure. Toast is on the oneX with another carrier, hopefully progress there will translate.
As far as a donations my thought was if enough people donate even a little that's gonna further the cause regardless. Tommy's work seems to transcend devices in the long run. With all the tuts, guides and tools he's responsible for. He def deserves it.
Thanks for the commitment bro, I know you'll make good.

I'm glad to have met you way back in the days of TRN! I hate to sound all "Nancy" like Jamie would say BUT you truly deserve a nice new phone! You are not only a smart developer but also a respectful guy that has TONS of class! There has been some that have come close to your level of integrity but none have matched it!!
Oh and guys, Tommy means every word he says! He does this because he loves to do it and NOT because he's looking for donations! Just look at his OPs.....he's doesn't bug the hell out of you with 75 different paypal "DONATE HERE" signs or promises you "insider access" or has a long list of who donated money to him like some devs......he's just that classy and once again, deserves to get another phone!
Tommy THANKS for all you've done for not only me but for the Android community!!

Mods please delete this post, this didn't turn out at all how I wanted it to. I wasn't trying to get a new phone from anyone or anything like that, sorry I came off that way. I also wasn't trying to make any monetary gain. I just shot this thread up real quick before I went somewhere today and I obviously didn't think about how it would be perceived to everyone.
Are you kidding me, you come here and ask us to pitch in money to buy you a phone?
Please go back to the other side. We support our own developers and moderators who put in countless time and energey to develop, publish, and
answer. This is who we should support, and don't always properly do so.
And they don't come with their hands out telling us if we give them this, they will do that.
Go back to you little site and quit trolling here.
So you want us to buy you a phone so you can review and post about kernels/roms/boot animations on your Comcast At Home site?
I mean....we do this here for free... I'm not sure exactly what service you offer, but other than putting out an opinion that is probably incredibly biased by your personal taste....doesn't seem like anything anyone would be interested in...

This is what gets me....hell Domains are CHEAP, hosting is CHEAP. As many hits as you don't get a day, you could probably run a site for less than $50 a year.
Wow, I didn't mean to offend anyone, I just can't afford the phone to do the testing on, so I thought I would throw it out there. If someone I knew had the phone I would just borrow it from them every time a new kernel dropped for updating. Mods can remove this thread, offending people was the last thing I wanted.
$450? The hell?
Look on Craigslist, in my area Evo and Epic 4G's go for around $200-250
Edit: Not to mention that you could get one with a bad ESN for even less.
That reminds me, I wonder if my Angelfire website is still around.....
The following is crossposted from the midNIGHT ROM threads.
I'm not sure if Rob posted anywhere here yet, but as per his Twitter feed, he's having to make some sacrifices as a parent and is selling his Epic and extras on eBay. Unfortunately, this also means that he will no longer be developing for right now.
On behalf of myself, all of ACS, and the userbase at large, I'd like to thank Rob (ptfdmedic) for everything he's contributed to the Epic community, and all of the time and effort he's put in, in his already busy schedule and hectic life. Our very best wishes are with he and his family.
I and ACS fully support Rob's mission to spread autism awareness. I would like to encourage everyone who has not yet added an awareness banner to your signature to do so now, whether Rob's version, or the version in my signature, by ZHkilla.
But don't just toss up a banner and call it a day - if Rob has taught us anything, it's that autism is a disease that we the public really must understand better. Read the Wikipedia article, read Rob's blog, and keep in mind the challenges that parents of autistic children, and autistic individuals themselves face. Understand that those on the spectrum are people first and foremost, and that while they may be a little different, they deserve all the respect that any decent human beings deserve.
Once again, thank you Rob, for your generous donation of time and effort to making our phones run better, making this community more harmonious, and raising autism awareness. I didn't mean to steal your thunder if you were planning on making an announcement here as well as Twitter... but I wanted to say a few words anyway.
+1000...Thank you!
Thank's Rob.
Rob, thank you for everything you have done here for all of us and for always doing it with class and a huge heart. All the best to you and your family.
I read your blog a while back on The Man with Bare Hands and it really touched me. I never got around to posting a banner but will do so when I get home tonight. Best wishes.
Man that really sucks. I don't post here often but I check in on xda every time I have a free minute. You guys are all great at developing but ptfmedic has always stood out to me not just because of his roms but because he always seems to be very helpful and very patient with the questions around here. Genuinely seems like a great guy. I have also followed his blog on many occasions and yes a lot of it is vey touching. If he has to go I'm sure he will be missed by many.
My question is (without knowing any details about his situation) Is there enough members in the Epic forums to make a one time say $5 or $10 donation to a save ptfmedics Epic fund. Seems like he goes through a lot on a daily basis and that phone could be his only outlet. I hope I am not out of line even suggesting this but I hate to see such a valued member of this community have to leave.

Rob,
Thank you for everything you've done for my phone and things you have taught me about life while reading your blog. I wish you and your family all the best.
THANK YOU
Thanks, k0nane
I also started the same type of thread over at ppcgeeks as well.
If k0nane still needs a phone maybe everyone could donate to a "buy Rob's phone for him" fund and kill two birds with one stone.

Read his blog. It will give you a huge insight into his life and the daily battles he goes through. I've been lucky enough to be on his beta test team since version 2.6. In that time I got to know him as a person and not just as a member of the forums and rom chef, and for that I feel like I've been very lucky.
Thank you Rob.
Rob... your a really inspiring guy, you like too please everyone and use your free time to do this for us when you already do so much for your family... I never knew much about autism untill you opened my eyes and when I read your blog I see how much stress you go through and your about the nicest guy I've talked to... hope to see you around when you can get a new phone, thanks for all the work you've done for this community (this post probably doesn't have that great grammar, sorry)

Welcome, thank everyone for taking the time to read this. I have been a busy body in the shadows trying to do something for a member of our Community. Let me start from the beginning. I'm sure everyone here is familiar with user/developer PTFDMedic. He created the Midnight roms, among other things. He's a well respected member of the community, a friend to me, and one of the strongest persons I have ever met in my life. He is also very open and honest about his personal experiences in life be it the bad, the good, and the personal. He blogs @ a site I suggest everyone read over once. www.lostandtired.com. He works his butt off taking care of his family, his wife and three autistic boys (which troubles me to even type it like that because he takes care of his THREE BOYS, the fact that they have autism does NOT define them).
Now the point of this, this all started the same day I wrote my rant about not getting my Nexus, on the way home I was thinking about reading that he sold his Epic to pay for car repairs on his van to keep bringing his children to speech therapy. I felt kinda bad that I have an Epic, brand new, and now I'm about to be holding onto the Nexus S. I'm by no means rich I just chose to pass on other things and save to get the phones I want. But still all in all at the end of the day I have two different phones, both top of the line, and here is Rob doing all the things necessary to raise his family and (if you don't develop for the phone/theme anything) it's hard to understand but when you are working on the code and have to pay close attention to what you are doing, you kind of loose sight of all the things that were nagging at your on the back of your mind. I serious mistake in the code and you can potential brick your device. So even though developing can create it's own headaches, and oh yes it can, it also helps you escape all the other things on your mind. That being said, I felt really bad that Rob was loosing his outlet, both to develop and his connection with you guys here on the forums.
Soon as I got home I set up an account and stuck in a mere $50 and got determined to translate that $50 into a new phone. I contacted my friends @ ACS and told them what was up. Withing no time we had $125.00 in there. Next the Bonsai team (can't thank you guys enough) joined in and we got $250.00 in the account. This ofcourse is the going rate on an Epic on ebay. While I was doing all of this (completely behind the scenes it was going to be a total suprise when I purchased the phone from Ebay, checked it to make sure it worked out all right, then mailed it to Rob who was clueless all along) I start noticing a few posts where he says that he really wants the Nexus S, he would love to develop on a device that doesn't have TW.
We finally got the cash together to buy the Epic and we all had us another conversation, why stop here. Why not push the envelope and let this man have his dream, and get a Nexus S. That would put us from 100% to 50% of the phones cost and two different development teams have put in a large amount so why not ask the users. They can and deserve to be a part of this anyway. Perfect, but it ruined one thing. Rob would def find out about this, going public. So I've notified Rob about the current. $250, the whole ordeal that we have been creating, everything. And then asked the mods permission for this post, which was granted first thing this morning. Now we are here and you're caught up with me. Have a heart, and give back to a man who has given to you!
By all means only donate if it is within your means!!! Rob was totally against us spending our money on him so Rob, if your reading this, your not allowed to post in protest!!!
All previous donations have gone to my account, that money is forwarded, and now the donate button here goes directly to Rob! He'll have to keep me posted on progress from here on.
Keep the good work Rob...
I hope to contribute if I can but this is definitely for a good cause! Your doing a good thing dreams as well as bonsai and ACS!

My point: you might want to revisit your ranges. At least to make them a little less rigid.

Ummm.... this is a great idea, and I don't mean to be picky, but what if we gave, oh, say $35? How about $5? Don't want to hear from those people? Or how about those who gave in Ruples and have no idea how many dollars that equates to?
My point: you might want to revisit your ranges. At least to make them a little less rigid.

Just looking for a general idea, nothing scientific, people can round up or down as their conscience allows.
It's in dollars as that is what paypal asks for when you hit the donate button.
btw is "Ruples" that new RussoIndian currency? ;-D
Give him $50
Why not $100? Be generous, the overcome team is generous!
As far as I can see, this thread is only gonna go downhill.
Donations are not about how much you donate, they are a gesture of goodwill and appreciation. There is no need for anyone to know how much someone else has donated, the only people who need to know this is Team Overcome and they already know.
Against my better judgement Im not going to close this yet but be warned, if it starts to slide I will.
Donation generally means what you can give. There is no set limit. If you think its awesome and can only put in $5 then thats OK, if you can afford more then give more.

Donating is not tiping. The devs are saying "if you want to give us money for what we are doing, then give what you can".
If you can only afford to give 5.00, then give that, but if next month your electric bill is cheaper and you can donate more, donate what you can afford.

This thread makes zero sense and a mod should close it.
The value of a dollar will different to each and every person. Thus making donation amounts all over the place.
I mean, who asks this.
What next?
Go to a party and ask everyone.. so how much does your job pay you? /sigh

I asked this and found it useful.
Happy for the thread to be closed if people can say in all honesty they are offended.

Hey Epic Community,
I'm starting up a donation fund that will allow us to buy Samsung Epic for a CM7/MIUI developer. Several members including me have pm'd devs like cyanogenmod and toastchf. As we are waiting confirmation, I thought we start off the donation drive in meeting our goal. Also fusingblackrose in the miui.us forums is also helping with a ASOP kernel for the epic. If you think there are other devs in the XDA community willing to help us out please let me know and I will see if they will support the Epic if we donate one to them.
Currently a used Epic on ebay is around $125 -/+ $10 at a good price.
If you are going to donate to this worthy cause please reply with how much and I will keep this OP updated! Again, this is a community effort! Any and all donations are welcomed. Once we meet our target number of about $125, I will set up Paypal link for everyone to donate.
Current Donors:
omair2005 -$10
lynyrd65 - $10
shiroimin -$10
Ceelos09- $10
jdelano -$10
anonymous donations
Total: $60+
how are you getting an epic for 125 dollars?
edit: nevermind i see you put ebay. going back to my hangover

You ignorant nitwits. I am a CM developer.
Bringing someone in who doesn't know the hardware would just set them back even further.
And trust me when I tell you this, I've exhausted a lot of the resources in #teamdouche to attempt to get somewhere.

hey Decad3nce, in no way am I trying to belittle your efforts and achievements because you have done a lot of work.. but this whole situation started out with several members wanted MIUI really bad. as miui/cm7 use same asop kernel, we thought a donating an epic to another dev would speed up and help your efforts?

I think they just assume that since your team isn't blabbering away on some cm7 thread that all plans have been abandoned.
Just let them be deca...there will be a lot of eggs on a lot of faces once you guys finish it. That alone should be plenty of motivation.

No it won't. It really won't.
I've personally exhausted half of teamhacksung in an attempt to refactor the gpio pins. toastcfh is and will always mainly be an msm arch guy, samsung epic is a completely different platform; he'd have to learn a whole new set up.
In case of MIUI "developers", they wait until we have our work done, and have a device repo merged into CM until they decide to support the device. They just take our work and merge it into their repo and start cranking out builds.
This **** you guys are doing is getting on my last nerves man. I know your intentions are good and you mean well, but god damnit. Money doesn't buy you support.
Patience.
If you want to check my credentials, and continue to belittle my work and step all over my credence in this matter. Go for it.

FYI, no such thing as an AOSP kernel.

I mean this is a community of epic users. Not everyone knows whats going on with CM7 dev. and its hard to find answers unless you search through threads not even pertaining to epic cm7 or irc which i'm never on. A simple thread explaining what has and hasn't been done would make matters much more clearer. Also what harm would it do if we get one more dev on board?

They tried to have a thread about CM7 development and after two different threads fell to trolls and people *****ing about not having CM7 there probably won't be another until a major breakthrough happens.

Quit while youre ahead guys... its been done. Listen to Deca, he knows the stuff. Just wait for source code and be patient. I dont want to lose another dev, specially one like Deca.

Lol. As I am someone who is now a bit older than most on here, I have learned patience. I think some of the younger people on here don't have the patience and get more restless every time another phone gets Cyanogen. My name is on a donation list and I haven't even gotten paid yet..lol. I think the donation fund was started with the best intentions but we haven't hit a wall yet. Nullghost, DevinXtreme and Deca have repeatedly said they need the Gingerbread source to make things several times easier. Until that point comes and an impass is reached, we are kind of pissing into the wind. I can understand Deca's frusteration because, in a way, its like saying that our devs aren't good enough to get the job done. I don't think that's the case at all.

man i didn't think raising money would get you this vexed! If donaters agree, I can completely end the donation drive or we can gladly donate it to whatever you think fits best. You are most knowledgeable when it comes to this..

Oh hey man, I know you have good intentions and all but I do see the other side as well. Since the Epic is my first smartphone I have never even gotten to try Cyanogen or Miui before. I am sure they are great and I look forward to the chance to try both. I am sure it won't be much longer.

Sigh... I really wish people would read more..
The real reason we don't have cm7 is not because of gb source... (if that were the case we SHOULD have had cm6 already), but the fact that samsung has poorly documented drivers for their hardware, and we are stuck guessing/emailing the actual hardware providers for chip layouts and certain calls and actions... HTC and other phones have all of that information well documented and the makers of the phone will actually help you instead of just saying "IDFK" cyanogenmod, miui, and aosp are all in the same boat as they all coincide with each other. It is bs because I know that unless we get this information, we probably won't ever get a fully functioning AOSP Kernel/rom... now, I took programming classes in college and I know the steps to developing something and how it works, but the gentlemen working on these ports asdfghjkl, ahgmsk, Decad3nce, epicCM team and more really do know their stuff. However, I really do think we need proffesional help. At this state, no amount of money, no amount of bickering, and no amount of ETA asking will help these things be developed... All they can do.. is wish and hope that the gb source will help.
Well the idea behind the donations I think is that many of our devs have either jumped ship to other phones or are banned from XDA, so new devs could help.
