1. Why does the stock browser dim the screen a step down when I open it? I can see it switching back to my selected brightness setting (manual/full) right before exiting it.
(I have "auto Adjust screen power" set to off and power saving mode also set to off in these initial test runs.)
Is this normal behavior ?

Check your browser brightness setting. It is separate from device brightness.

I did.
...but either the "brightness" settings is very well hidden in the browser's setting menu, or I am being just lousy at finding it
XK

yep, me too
no brightness settings found in the standaard browser
must be blind

Actually, I just found it...It's adjustable via the Status bar, by opening the Notification panel, as in any other instance...It's just that the brightness setting for the browser is a independent from the general one...Quite curious....

Hi friend, check the color setting at the upper right menu inside the browser. Depending on the choice the whites are clearer. It is supposed to save battery.

Why are there two brightness settings?

One thing I've found irritating is that the Vibrant has at least two brightness settings. The systems setting allows you to select "auto brightness" BUT
The browser has its own brightness controls and does have an "auto brightness" setting that I can find?!
The screen is so bright you need two settings for it.
Why is this annoying? Use a different browser.
I agree. I see no need to have a separate setting for the browser. One system brightness setting would suffice...
Is that part of the "Power saving mode" (two below the "Brightness" setting)?
That option says "Save power by analyzing image and adjusting LCD brightness". Maybe the browser isn't playing nice with that function.
For the record... Mine is checked and I see the brightness increase on the browser too. I am not in a position to test it at the moment.
"power saving mode" on or off I can independently adjust system and browser brightness.

There is another brightness setting under the browser opt ins when you load the browser itself
so we got 3 brightness settings
Sadly yes lol

4. Don't forget the tmobile app does some kind of auto brightness too iirc.

The browser has a setting because a majority of websites are white, this is the opposite of most of the phone's Apps, so it makes sense that the browser would be different. If your phone has brightness up and you are reading a website at night, odds are you don't want the bright white light blinding you.

Won't flip horizontal

My legend won't flip 90degrees (horizontal) when i hold it that way when im looking at photo's or typing a message, it worked before but suddenly it doesnt anymore?
Is there any setting i dind't find? Could it be caused by an app(e.g. Swype, Swiftkey)
there are some apps which can disallow auto rotation, do you have switchpro or some other (auto rotate) toggle widget? If you don't you can try downloading one and toggle it so it would allow it. maybe there is some setting in your phone which can do that but mine is getting repaired so I can't check it atm.

First off, i'm dutch so i have an android phone with dutch language, and boldly translated it's:
settings > sound and display > stance
(in dutch: Instellingen > geluid en weergave > stand)
Guess, that's why i cound't find it...

Cm7 Light Sensor Levels (Small simple guide)

Please go to Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Display -> Automatic Backlight -> Edit Other Levels...
Below is a screenshot of the settings I'm using. This is much easier on the eyes during the night, as I found the stock settings to be too bright. This also improves battery life.
Play around with the other settings in the previous window like Sample Interval ( 1 second) and screen dim level (1).
Like I said this is what has worked best for me. If it is too dark simply increase the numbers as needed.
If this was helpful don't forget to hit the Thanks button! Cheers!

I like my screen about as dark as I can get it, before CM I used SuperDim to get my screen dark. I've had my screen dim level set to 6 ever since flashing CM, but never played with those setting cause I wasn't sure how to work them. I set mine exactly like yours. My question is do the "other levels" only kick in if you are using automatic brightness?

My atrix has the automatic settings selected, then I customized the light levels under CM7. Seems to work smooth as well. That's what bothers me the most with the SG2. Half the time when i turn the screen on its dark for about 10 seconds (and in direct sunlight you can't see anything on the screen) before the phone realizes the light settings and adjusts.
Just play around with the settings. Hold your finger over the light sensor and watch the numbers drop.
Which version of CM are you running? On the most recent stable build Ba2Tf (IIRC) the top two in the second editable column can't be changed from their defalt 24/48 values...?

You have to change the dim level to 1 before you can set those values that low.
I applied all the settings and my phone screen didnt changed a bit (i am already using lowest screen brightness from display settings) should i reboot or what ?
Edit: Rebooted and no change
Edit 2:Screen dim is working amazingly, all i want is to lower the actual screen brightness, that hurt my eyes when i wake up and start reading sms
Edit 3: just edit the settings and put ur phone to auto brightness, it should work. I was using my phone all the way lowest brightness 24-7 manualy.
P.s: thanks and thanks cm7.

Capacitive Keys Backlight Permanently On?

Is there a kernel that allows the capacitive key backlights to be turned on at all times that the screen is on? I'm using ElementalX and I can't see anything in the settings.
I know there's an app on Play that does this but it needs to be re-enabled after every reboot.

There's a setting under "Buttons" in the settings. Disable the toggle titled "Backlight". I've never had mine turn back on after I've toggled that off.

Whoops, misread that, my bad. I'm not sure how to enable them all the time, maybe see if you can create a tasker profile for the app that needs to be enabled on boot.

Yes, that might work.
You can try Xposed + Gravitybox, but if you're willing to go that route I'd suggest running a custom ROM, because all of them have that option

You may try with EX Kernel manager, setting brightness on sys/class/leds/button-backlight
I tried quickly, setting to 255 light them up and short time after screen goes off they are lightning off too, when screen goes on they are lightning up again.

I don't think that I'm doing this correctly. Do you mean in Tools/User Settings, then add a new setting so that I end up with " sys/class/leds/button-backlight/255" on the top line? The bottom line shows "NA".
Edit: doh.... I finally worked it out. Thanks heaps. This was exactly what I was looking for.

How did you get this to work? I can create a sys/class/leds/button-backlight by typing it directly into the user settings but then I can't change its value (stays na). Or I can follow the path to sys/class/leds/button-backlight but then I cannot select it.

Xiaomi A1 - Lock Screen Pin Password Not working

Not sure if anyone else has faced this problem - but I recently purchased my A1 and more often than not the phone remains unlocked no matter whether I use the pin / password or pattern. i.e. when I press the power button to show the lock screen the phone shows that the phone is unlocked even when I enable the pin / password.
I have enabled "power button instant lock", and changed it so that it auto-locks immediately after sleep; but it doesn't help.
The finger print scanner works perfectly fine; but even when I use the wrong finger to try to unlock the phone 5 times - i.e. when it should lock the phone down, I can still unlock the phone with a swipe.
Anyone else ran into this problem or have a solution? Thanks in advance

So....after a long day of troubleshooting I figured out what the problem is. It's due to the Smartlock feature where the phone will remain unlocked in "safe places" and or when the phone is being held in your hands.
Feeling like a proper tool right now haha

Dude, you just literally quoted the reason and fix. It's due to the Smartlock feature where the phone will remain unlocked in "safe places" and or when the phone is being held in your hands.
Go to settings, click on search button, type in "smart", open smartlock, disable everything.
really thanks for share this tips. last few hours facing same problem. now fixed it after reading this article.
I just wonder how did you guys configure the Smart Lock without knowing it, because it isn't enabled by default.

at some point you'll see a notification in your status bar telling you something like this:
"it seems you're unlocking your device often in this location. Do you want to enable smart unlock to allow easier access?"
The notification is actionable iirc and allows you to enable smart lock right there with a single click. But it seems that is either badly worded or people don't understand what it wants to tell them. Since I don't remember the notification verbatim I can't really comment on what's to blame here.
What's important is that google will allow you to configure this without ever going to the settings menu. My guess is that it happened here.
Thank you Localhorst86. BTW I am using Smart Lock on my Android and Chrome OS devices and I know it very well and its purpose. Your guess is right I think, I have got exactly this system notification on my new Mi A1 when testing it for a week or so. But if I didn't know anything about Smart Lock I'll learn what it is and what its purpose is as a first step. Just blindly confirm such a offer can have a consequences as we could seen in this thread

I agree with the notion that I look up something if I don't know what it does (which wasn't the case with smart lock, because I was already familiar with what it does) but I know that a lot of people don't. They have their system tell them "Hey, you wanna unlock your device less often when at home?" And don't realize what the system actually wants to ask: "Hey, do you want me to disable your password protection *completely* when you're at home?".
Another lot of people go through their settings "Smart Lock? Don't know what that is, better not touch it" or "I have never been there, that can't be the cause of my issue".
It's human nature. I can tell from being a human for the last 31 years (and definatelly not an allien from Bettelgeuse).
ciao io ho usato questo procedimento funziona benissimo
Istruzioni
https://www.inthebit.it/come-bypassare-lockscreen-android/
Scaricate e copiate sul vostro telefono Aroma file manager.zip | Download
Avviate il telefono in recovery
Tramite l’opzione “mount”, montate tutto
Flashate poi il file aromafilemanager.zip
Dopo l’installazione, aromafilemanager si avvierà, usate il bilanciere del volume per muovervi e il tasto accensione per selezionare, come con la recovery
Andate in “Menu”, poi in “Settings”
In fondo, selezionate “mount all partition in startup”, quindi uscite da aromafilemanager
Dopo aver chiuso aroma, flashatelo nuovamente e si avvierà di nuovo
Spostatevi in “Data”, poi in “System”
Trovate ora gesture.key (per la sequenza) o password.key (per la password). Tap prolungato su uno di questi, quindi selezionate “delete”
Riavviate
what I do is, rotate the phone (90 degrees) and that allows me to bring the keyboard on.
i m also facing this same problem........phone open without finger and pattern......... phone open only press power button and swipe screen.
