After some investigation, I believe the data connection loss for me on 2.2 seems to be related to WiFi. If I have WiFi on and connected and leave the wifi area (elevator) it seems that's when the issue occurs. To test it out, I have been turning off Wifi while still connected and I'm heading out. So far I haven't lost data connection since i've been doing this and I specifically did things that led me to lose data connections in the past.
I think the software believes the Wifi is still connected when its not and thus the 3G data doesn't come on properly.
I'll post back if I have the issue but I'm continuing to try this and hope it works. Nothing and I mean nothing else appears to be an issue for me apart from this thanks to fixes and my good luck it seems.
I have had the same issue. It doesnt happen all of the time for me. It happened right after installing the ROM. I rebooted and it solved the problem. Since Friday, I have had it happen twice. Prior to replying, I turned off the WiFi and the phone switched to 3g without any problems. I'm trying to reproduce it....I think my problem occurs after I have been charging the phone with WiFi on-like it gets stuck. I will not know until in the morning. Like I said, it hasn't happened but twice.

Further testing and I think my theory is true. No issues still. Usually by now I have the problem.
Hello all,
Quick question. Is anyone losing Google Sync / Data when on Wifi ?
Happens at home and work. Never had an issue with my GS3 or One X. On cell service it works fine.
update 11/24
Seems as though its a pretty widespread issue. Also , it is an issue with the connection it self, not just google sync.
I opened up a "google issue" , if you are having the same problems I recommend posting on the thread. It can be found here:

I have the exact same problem. But it only happens at home. At home we've wep and at work wpa2. Never had an issue with my GS2. On cell service it works fine for me too.
Is android 4.2 incompatible with 128-bit WEP???
This is driving me nuts! Any ideas community??

I've noticed this too but seems to only be when the phone is sleeping? I'll turn screen on and bars will be gray and then turn blue. Did you guys turning off wifi optimization in wifi settings? I might try that next. It's some sort of power saving

hey guys,
I actually put in a google issue that seems to be picking up some steam.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40065
I have no clue what causes it at this point. It doesnt happen on all networks. Happens on my work network which is open / unsecured.
Also does it on my inlaws network which is wpa2 encrypted. However my home network which is also wpa2 encrypted is fine.
I recommend posting on the google issue to raise awareness
I added my experience, it seems to me like it's keeping wifi alive but not the Google connection. I have no issues on a Nexus 7 running 4.2 so it's not my router either but could be something specific to Nexus 4 hardware. I might try changing wifi sleep policy to never to see if at least this way HSPA will be connected when screen is off.

Anybody not having this issue? It's really annoying and for some reason even if I set wifi to stay on when plugged in or never it takes forever to disconnect so I still don't get alerts. Definitely appears to be an issue with 4.2 so i guess we just have to wait and hope it is fixed in next update.

It's happening to me both with my N4 on 4.2 and also with my Transformer Prime, recently updated to 4.1.1. Only on specific networks.

It actually happens to me on both new Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. Happens on home network (WPA2).
Any chance this could be a Google server issue? My Nexus 7 on 4.2 and GS3 running CM10 4.1.2 doesn't have issue either just my Nexus 4. Not sure what's causing it on my Nexus 4 but it's driving me crazy.

I'm pretty sure this is a general Wifi issue, and not limited to Google services. I've noticed that when the Wifi goes to sleep, I no longer receive incoming calls in GrooveIP or Sipdroid. I also don't receive email alerts until I turn on the screen, and the wifi re-activates.
EDIT: I ran a simple test. Loaded GrooveIP, called GV # from another phone, GrooveIP rang. Let the phone sit for 10 minutes to fall asleep. Called again. Didn't ring. I then loaded up Advanced Wifi Lock to prevent the phone from going asleep. The first call worked, and so did the one after 10 minutes. So, this definitely seems like an issue that impacts any service depends on a reliable Wifi link - not just Google's Sync services. I ran the same test with Sipdroid, and got identical results.

That's a bad example because GrooveIP uses GTalk on the backend so you're still using Google Services. What makes this more puzzling is I went to a Brooklyn Nets game last night and they have crazy fast open WiFi at the place while my phone was connected, it appears that all notifications worked even when the screen was off. I was too busy watching the game to pay much attention but I did get emails, etc. while the screen was off and I was on Wifi. The main difference between that WiFi and my home Wifi is the one at the arena had no security at all.
I've been playing around with my router and tweaking settings but nothing is working and I'm pretty sure this is a phone software issue. What I want to find is someone with 4.2 on a Nexus 4 who is NOT having an issue. I'm starting to wonder if this is an app or Google Service sync related issue.
My Nexus 7 running 4.2 does NOT have any issue on the same exact Wifi so I'm wondering if it's some app or setting on my phone that's causing this
For me it definitely seems to occur more on unsecured networks.
Not only is it google sync but the connection in general.
Anybody with this issue brave enough to try a factory reset? If it doesn't get solved soon I'll probably flash CWM recovery, do a nandroid and then do a factory reset to see if that fixes it. At least that way if it doesn't I can restore backup.
Anyone want to try now?

Weird! So you did a factory reset and still nothing? Did you still have the issue before you restored apps? I mean like completely stock with just what comes on the phone. If you still have the issue with that, then we know it's not app related.
I might also try downloading and reflashing the system image...maybe something got screwed up in the 4.2 update??

Since I flashed Franco boot 5, the problem has stopped (i think). Flashing stock/factory reset didn't help me.

Interesting - is Franco Kernel 5 stable enough to use as a daily driver? Any issues? I'm willing to flash it now to test it but don't want to make the phone less stable.

Strange then that it might fix this issue since the wifi module is stored in system and he's not overwriting it so something in the kernel itself

The minute I turn on my 3g any normal voice calls made from my phone gets disconnected within a second.
If I switch to Wifi / 2g the issue is solved!
I have tried Settings - Call Settings - Additional settings - Caller ID but the option of caller id itself is unselectable!! I have read many people saying to select caller ID and set network default fixing the problem but on my phone it is unselectable!
Please advice on how I can fix this problem! Thank you

No I am running stock 2.3.6 and havent done any updates since I got my phone 6 months back! The problem is still not resolved!
I beleive it is a problem with my carrier Airtel as they say that there is 3g upgradation going on in my area. But I still face this problem all around Bangalore!! I cant understand what is the major cause of this problem! I have used my sim in my friends Sony Ericsson Arc and there is no issue whatsoever! Im still waiting for a solution. Please lemme know if you find anything as well! Tx
I don't think its a problem with airtel because I'm facing this problem with vodafone, I m facing the same problem with airtel sim also in the same handset however same sims are working fine with other handsets.
Initially vodafone told it might be a problem in their network but after checking they confirmed that there is no issue with their network.
I feel its an issue with phone itself but know its related to hardware or software. Factory reset also didn't work, tried all possible ways that I could think of including replacing sim but no lucktill now.
I took phone to motorola service too, all they could suggest was to replace sim and factory reset which I've already done, only solution left is to give the phone for checking and they need 2 days to check if any fault is there.
Did your phone always had this problem or started recently? Do u remember making any settings in phone before this problem started?

You're right.. I guessed the same! Well this phone has been giving me this problem since January of this yr. Before that it was perfect! I cant remember making any changes in the settings. I have also done a factory reset but the issue isnt solved. I cant understand what to do now?! this really is getting irritating cause every time i have to make a call i switch off the Data using toggles widget and turn on again once done. I cant do this forever. Even the calls which I get from someone else gets cut in a second and appears as a missed call. I desperately need someone to suggest a cure for this!
Do let me know if you have made any setting changes recently . I ll try to remember if there is any common changes we have made and try to find a solution for this.

I also want to state that when my 3g was on before the issue began it used to be displayed as H - meaning high speed internet. Since the day I ve been facing this problem the H symbol changes to 3G - once this transition takes place immediately call gets dropped. I ve never seen the 3G being displayed before the problem.
Question: Does the 3G have to be switched off automatically once a call is made? Like for eg. if you re connected on wifi, even when you are in a call the wifi is still on and active in the background.
Is the 3G supposed to switch off automatically once a call is made just like it does when in 2g??
Some of the things I remember which happened before this problem started are:
1) I updated the firmware.
2) I kept a heavy bag on my phone by mistake.
3) I changed the phone's battery, I'm now using the an extended battery bought from eBay.
4) I changed the screen guard, using a matte finish guard now. (wondering if the solvents that they use while fixing the screen guard have any impact on this)
5) I started using the application Team Viewer a lot to operate my home laptop from office.
I've mentioned everything that I could think of, is any of this matching with you?
Its was a very good handset till this problem started, I don't want to buy a new phone just to fix this problem.
One more thing I observed is that this problem has increased over time, initially when this came to my notice 50% of the calls got cut while using 3g, but now all calls are dropped while using 3g.
The calls - both incoming and outgoing are working fine even if 3g is on but no data is being transfered. Once the call is connected 3g works fine. The problem is only in starting/initiating the call while 3g data transfer is happening once the call is connected 3g is fine.
Regarding my usage:
I've been using this phone very roughly from past one n half year, I use it regularly to download using both wi fi n 3g, I listen to music everyday using bluetooth n also watch many movies on my phone itself.
In short usage is very high n rough.
Could it be a wear n tear damage because of this?
Pls let me know if any of the mentioned points match with you which will help us locate the reason for the problem.

Well Sry but nothing in common! For me since the beginning of the problem, 100% of the calls are getting dropped! its been a month now. Do you face this problem in a specific area or all over town? Ive searched a lotta forums for an answer but to no avail! I dont know if rooting the phone will help!?!?! but that is my next step. Did you try going to Settings<Wifi and Networks<Mobile networks and selecting 3G only? FOr me the problem persists but i guess you should try this.

I gave my phone for service yest and I am expecting it tomorrow in the evening. Will Keep you posted on the update.
Same problem
I am EXACTLY facing the same problem. I have an AirTel sim and I don't remember from this problem got started. I tried restoring factory setting, flashing the phone in authorized service center and nothing helped. I was about to install custom ROM and just read this thread in the forum. I will wait for some more time to see if any of you is lucky enough to find a solution for it.
As a temporary workaround, I have changed the GPRS to 2G and its working now. In 3G, if I try making calls, the data connectivity will not be cancelled, but in 2G, as soon as you hit the green button, the data will be cancelled.
Please reply if you find any solution for it. Thank you!

1) Does anyone of you NOT use motoblur Account????
2) Does anyone of you NOT use google account in your phone?
I think the solution lies in the questions above. If you use either one, the problem will persist. Try to factory reset your phone and skip log in Motoblur and Skip google account sync. The problem should be solved.
No luck
As suggested by you, I did a factory reset and tried making call without adding Google account and it didn't workout. I had the same problem. I even tried adding another Google account (after wiping data) and same problem. I lost hope
I am gonna use my mobile with 2G only till someone finds a permanent solution.
Thanks for your help!
Hello Guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask something like this, so apologies if I'm asking in the wrong place, but I've searched a lot the past days and haven't found a solution yet :/
Less than a week ago, I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 (SM-T285) 7" LTE, and pretty much since day one, the tablet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting on every wi-fi I tried so far (3-4 different networks). I lose my connection for a couple seconds, causing any app running to lag a bit, then the notification that I have been connected to (the same) wi-fi comes up, and it starts working again. I googled a bit and tried using WPS button, Keep Wifi on during sleep, always allow scanning, even turned flight mode on, but the problem remains. Also, googling usually returned solutions that were aimed towards the router, although I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the tablet, since it's not just on one router. I'm at a loss on how to fix this and the only thing I can compe up with atm is to try a factory reset, which is weird, since the problem was with the tablet literally from the beggining. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance

I haven't really encountered that problem on my device. If you still have problems with the device after factory reset I suggest you try to get a replacement and see if it fixes it. You can also test if the problem goes away if your device is the only one connected to the router or setup a static IP. You can also post a logcat during the interruption so that we can get a better a handle on what is happening.

Try to re-flash your firmware and then install root. There is an application that grasps the Wi-Fi, so it doesn't disconnect and reconnect everytime.

Also, if you don't want to root and just stay in stock firmware, then go to this link (it is from a Samsung Moderator and yes, it is official): http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...7407616!1470947554734&from_osc=&homeid=342384
Solution brief statement:
- disable Connectivity Monitor and Wireless Uplink
- set the AP is set on fixed channels

Try to re-flash your firmware and then install root. There is an application that grasps the Wi-Fi, so it doesn't disconnect and reconnect everytime.

@ashyx
- run the lastest stable upgrade of both AP and Controller

Not sure what you're trying to advise here or why you're advising to flash stock firmware and root?
Also the link to the knowledge base solution doesn't work as its session key has expired.

What do you mean "Also the link to the knowledge base solution doesn't work as its session key has expire."? I have just checked the website and the session key has not expired and it still works for me.

Never mind got it working by using a different browser.
Thanks for posting it, but Samsung's 'solution' [emoji55] is to simply disconnect and reconnect the wifi which I have already tried.
It's related to the device not the network as I don't have any issue with any of my other devices on the same network.
Maybe if they'd release some source code that actually worked I might be able to do something about it instead of them refusing my request.

Ok, if I find a solution, I'll be sure to tell you.
+1 I'm also getting this issue like crazy on my T280
Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Mine too. I have the T280, Best Buy has the T350 for $20 more. Has dual band wifi. Might try exchange it, but I rooted it already. Can I go back to stock without them knowing?
I was dealing with this issue although it was never more than an annoyance because it never actually interrupted my wifi connection, it just showed the little toast message that said it reconnected
I somehow magically got the device to stop doing this and I don't know exactly what fixed it, but I think the step that did it was flashing the stock firmware to the device. After that, it never seemed to have the annoying bug again.
The other things that could have done it relate to installing root and using Link2SD to disable some bloatware and moving all user apps to the SD card, but my guess is the fix came from flashing the stock ROM
I have the same problem with SM-T280 (T280XXU0AQA4), tried many wireless network and I have always disconnections. There is a solution for this problem?

It seems better since the latest update, it's done this since day 1.

Also for me since day 1
I have the exact same issue with my A6 10.1.
Posted about it a while back, I tried a factory reset, i tried clearing the cache. I took it to the service centre who did a complete software rebuild. I reset my router to factory and gave the tablet a static ip address. In the end I got a replacement, the replacement has the exact same issue. A friend bought the tablet the same day I did and has the exact same issue, they also got a replacement, their replacement also has the issue. So that's 4 out of 4.
Samsung couldn't care less, I've called customer service who suggested taking it to the service centre or getting a replacement, both things I've done. I've emailed and received nothing but generic cut and paste replies telling me to factory reset and clear the cache partition. I'm over my 30 days and can't return it. So I have a lovely paper weight and I'm back to using my iPad 3 because it may be slow as anything but at least it stays connected to wifi.

It may not be Samsung's problem but the place where you bought your tablet from. You might have to reflash it to stock (the ODIN way or the Samsung Smart Switch way). Some stores refurbish items and just take the same item repackage after thinking that it is okay to use because they just hook up the tablet to the computer without it actually connecting to the wifi.
If you want to do the ODIN way, you should try going to www.updato.com and find your software and device number and install it. There will be a guide there.
If you want to do the Samsung Smart Switch way, just go download it for the PC and it should tell you how to do it. (YOU NEED YOUR DEVICE NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER!)
Or if it still doesn't connect online, it might be because the host file is messed up. It is located in ./system/etc./host
I'm not sure but you should be able to find it through ES File Explorer.

Thanks but I took it to the local service centre who reflashed the firmware and it made no difference. Support told me it's a known software issue but they don't know when or even if a fix will be released.
It connects to the wifi fine, it just drops connection constantly, it shows as connected and I'm sat less then three feet from my router but try streaming or opening play store and it says no connection retry. Then you have to wait until it decides to work again, sometimes that's seconds, sometimes a few minutes. Sometimes you have to manually disconnect and reconnect wifi or turn the device off then back on. Rince and repeat.
I'll download smart switch and give it a go but I don't see it helping to be honest.

Try rooting your device and then check your hosts file and fix it. Sometimes, after when I installed Freedom (In-App purchase hack) it updates the Host file to disable it to connecting to the Internet. It should only say 127.0.0.1 Host, not something like app referrer: 108.xxx.xxx

Thanks but I honest'y can't be bothered with it anymore. As I said myself and a friend got the same tablet, we've both had the same issues, we both got replacements, both the replacements have the exact same issue and I assume it's massively unlikely all 4 tablets have host file issues. I've wasted hours of my life on this (resetting my router to factory for some reason caused my wifi printer to flail which took 4 days to fix). I've not rooted it and haven't installed anything that should mess with the host file.
I may change my mind and give it a go one day when I'm bored. I assume rooting doesn't invalidate the warranty/trip the knox etc?
I ran smart switch last night, backed up, reinstalled the sofrware then restored from backup. Only the backup didn't restore all the app settings, so it removed all the progress on the games I had been playing.

Root does trip your warranty and it is a pain in the but when you are trying to install applications like Oasis's Island app because it knows if you had a "modified" OS. So, you have to be careful on what kind of application you still want to use.
If you can get another replacement or exchange, reset your device and then hand in to the store for a SM-T350 or some other device.
I know that SM-T350's are good for games and other content like watching videos.
Hope I helped and I wish you the best of luck.
The T280/T285 doesn't have knox, so nothing to trip.
Can confirm reflashing stock did not fix it on my t280. Starting to think the only fix is to get a different tablet...
Hi
I got my 6p about 4 days ago brand new, and upgraded to 7.1.1 wifi was fine and then went to 7.1.2 and wifi seemed fine for couple days while I installed apps and such I wanted
while I waited on a case to arrive, turned it on yday and my wifi connects then disconnects, sometimes it doesn't see wifi networks.. I tried to wipe cache no difference also
tried safe mode and nope.
Also tried to factory reset couple times and well it didn't change anything. Not sure what else to try, I tried shutting off my router for while.. Only thing I can think of is to send it back
unless someone has a idea.
thx.

Hello,
You can try flashing a 7.1.1 factory image to see if problem persists. If yes, it's likely a hardware issue...
Good luck...
You mentioned waiting for a case to arrive. Just to be clear you are having this problem with no case on the phone, correct? You can go into settings / Google / Networking and see if WiFi Assistant is ticked. Change the setting to whatever is the opposite of what it's set at and see if that makes any difference.
Same issue. Huawei had me send in my phone to repair it and I got it back yesterday. Wifi still broken and when I called them up today they want me to send it back AGAIN!

That is correct, I hate using my phone without a case. rather not break it to soon bad luck and all.. I'd hate to have to send it back before even using it lol..
It seems better since I unlocked the bootloader and the phone reset itself again. Don't think I had a drop in wifi yet. Still testing tho..

My Nexus 6P is doing the exact same thing and I think its something to do with several 7.1.1 updates and 7.1.2 update. Because wifi was fine until it updated like 5 times.

You can always try clearing the system cache and seeing if that helps. It probably won't but it's always worth a try. You can also go into WiFi Assistant under settings / Google / Networking and tick the opposite of whatever its currently set at and see if that makes any difference.
I went ahead and RMA'd my phone hopefully I can get a decent replacement. wifi start going weird again in couple days and phone would randomly reboot doing nothing and sometimes staying on the android logo
while booting. What a pain so far..
Welp my phone finally arrived back futuretel replaced the Motherboard and a component doesn't say what and factory reset the device.
Been 2 days now with no drops in wifi or anything.. Hopefully no more problems. All in all took about 2 weeks and that is with 2 holidays
so not bad..
