HOW TO: Flash the Nexus S 4G to MetroPCS - Nexus S General

***I'm going to soon grab a Samsung Galaxy Nexus! Look out for my guide on how to flash THAT to MetroPCS, soon!***
This is my first write up of a really detailed tutorial on HowardForums. I spent as much as a hour writing this whole thing out, seriously! I figured I might as well get it up on XDA here as well. o: Leave me with your feedback and how things work out for you.
==How to Flash the Nexus S 4G to MetroPCS==
This is just a very detailed write up on how to get the Nexus S 4G flashed to MetroPCS. I get really in-depth with this tutorial. I don't know how much easier I can make it. This will get you working talk, text, web, mms, and all that good cellphone stuff.
This tutorial is made up of bits and pieces of Bloodykiller's HTC EVO 4G flashing how-to, just re-written with proper MetroPCS settings and all other things specifically for the Nexus S 4G.
==BEFORE WE BEGIN==
Couple of things we'll need before we can begin. Here's the checklist for your grand journey.
- CDMA Workshop 2.7 OR 3.5 (Google it.)
1- QPST build 323 (Google it.)
2- Experience with QPST and CDMA Workshop...
3- These Samsung drivers: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mthba0oaizzo6t0/samsung_driver.zip
4- This PRL (Enables 3G data, if available): https://www.dropbox.com/s/z8ecqcg76gw44wg/3029.prl
5- *MMS is being fixed, ignore it*
6- A ROOTED Nexus S 4G running on STOCK Android 4.0.x, OR Android 2.3.x, with A CUSTOM RECOVERY (This is now a requirement to get working MMS!)
7- Some MiniUSB cables
8- Your Nexus S 4G's MEID added into MetroPCS's database. Look it up, or PM me for help on the matter. I don't do it, but I can help.
Disclaimer: Follow these instructions CAREFULLY. Mess up, and things can go bad, and I'm not responsible for whatever happens. Okay, lets begin.
==1. TALK/TEXT==
1. This is the most crucial part. Your MEID needs to be added into the MetroPCS database. No MEID = No phone. (Or to get smart about it, no talk, or text.)
2. We're going to need to use CDMA Workshop for this part of the tutorial. You need to either download it from somewhere on the interwebs, or be a cool guy and actually buy it, up to you.
Before we can start, you will need to download the Samsung drivers (https://www.dropbox.com/s/mthba0oaizzo6t0/samsung_driver.zip), unzip it, and install the .msi file inside. Thats it for the drivers part.
3. Now that you've gotten the drivers, make your way to your Nexus S 4G, and open up the dialer. Dial *#*#8778#*#*, and you should be pulled into a menu called PhoneUtil. (If you didn't get into PhoneUtil after dialing the code, you need to be on STOCK Android 2.3.x, or 4.0.x!) Next, tap the modem bullets on both UART and USB.

}
4. Connect your Nexus S 4G to your PC. You should be getting a message about a new device being installed. Once that finished, go to the Start Menu, and right click on "Computer" and choose "Properties". On the left side, click on Device Manager. Once you're in, expand "Ports (COM & LPT) and look for "SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnotic Serial Port (WDM) (COMx)"
The x in (COMx) is the number of the port you'll be using in QPST and CDMA Workshop. It'll be 1,2,3,4,5 and so forth, whatever.
5. Open up CDMA Workshop. Under the Main tab, find COM Settings, and change the Port to whatever the SAMSUNG Mobile Model Diag Port told us earlier. I got COM6, so I would open up the drop down menu and choose COM6. Don't touch the baud rate. Go down and click "Connect", and then click "Read".
**If the phone does not answer, wake up your Nexus S 4G.**
You should then see a bunch of number and stuff on the left under Phone Information, awesome! Next, make your way to the Security tab. We need to unlock the phone before we can do anything. Under SPC, in the blank field, enter in "000000" (without quotations), then click on SPC and then click send. You should get the message saying "SPC is correct. Phone unlocked", opossum-grade awesome!
6. Go to the NAM tab, and click Read at the bottom. You should see a bunch of numbers and other things, but what we want to look at is "MIN" and "Dir_Number". You need to change these numbers accordingly. Dir_Number is your actual phone number, and MIN is your Mobile Identification Number. Your MIN can be found from one of your older phones. Once you put those in, click on Write at the bottom.
**If the phone does not answer, wake up your Nexus S 4G.**
7. Next, make your way to the "Other" tab. Find PRL, and make sure the boxes read "Universal, and NAM1". Click the Write button, and find the PRL file that you downloaded earlier. (3029.prl) Once you find it, double click it, and wait for it to finish.
Sometimes you will get an error about failing to write to NAM1, no worries. Go back to the main tab, disconnect, and reconnect and at the same time, read again. Go back to security, enter the SPC, and try to rewrite the PRL.
**If the phone does not answer, wake up your Nexus S 4G.**
8. Almost done with CDMA Workshop! Also, be VERY careful with this part because a simple mistake CAN brick your phone. Finally, head over to this website here: http://www.whiterabbit.org/android/
We need to get our NV items, as well as our MetroPCS MSL. In the field where it says "Enter your login string", type in [email protected]. (So if your phone number were 555-555-5555, you'd put in [email protected]) Before clicking generate, make sure you have the correct version of CDMA Workshop on the bubbles selected! Okay, so you should have gotten a .txt file after clicking generate. Save it to somewhere you can find it.
Go back to CDMA Workshop, and go into the "Memory" tab. Find "NV Items" and click Write. You'll get a warning message, click OK. Find the .txt file you got from whiterabbit, and open it in CDMA Workshop. *Make sure that this process does NOT get interrupted!* Once that's done, not only have you just taken the first steps into getting WEB working, but you've gotten Talk and Text working on your Nexus! Give yourself a pat on the back.
Also, you will need to get your MetroPCS MSL Code. To get this, on the whiterabbit page, near the field that says "Enter 1 MEID/ESN per line in the text area to your left, then click the calculate button.", enter your ESN/MEID in the field, and click generate. Under MetroPCS MSL, write that down, we'll need it later.
Close CDMA Workshop, and reboot your phone.
==2. DATA/WEB==
Time to work with QPST! This stuff is going to really require your attention to "spot the differences". I say that because I'm going to use pictures. on this part to make life simple.
1. Open up QPST Configuration, and while you're doing that connect your Nexus S 4G to your PC, again.
2. Remember that port we used for CDMA Workshop? It might be the same as last time. Mainly, look for the Phone "FFA-6550-ZRF6500". Do you see it? If not, go to Add New Port. Uncheck "Show Serial and USB/QC Diagnotic ports only". Select the ports that showed up and click OK. Wait and see if it finds your phone now. It should.
(If the ports are enabled, but you still don't see your phone, on your Nexus S 4G, go to the dialer, and enter in *#*#8778#*#* and make sure those fields are still on MODEM.
3. With your phone highlighted, go to "Start Clients" at the top, and choose Service Programming.
4. On the new window that showed up, click on your Nexus, and click OK.
5. Another window should come up. Click "Read from Phone" at the bottom, and with the window asking for your SPC, just press OK. Let it read, and make sure that some stuff popped up on Settings. If it did, awesome.
6. Click the right arrow at the top of the window to move the tabs over until you find M.IP, open it. Remember the matching I was talking about earlier? Well, match up the values down here in QPST.
7. When you've matched up those values, under User Profile, you want to click on Profile #0 and click the Edit button. Match up what you see here.
Those red boxes are where your phone number would be. So if your phone number was again, 555-555-5555, you'd need to put in [email protected] in those NAI and Tethered NAI fields.
Once you're done with the matching, click OK, and then, we're going to be doing the same under Profile #1, so click it, and go click Edit, again. You're going to do the EXACT same thing. Match up Profile #1's values with what you did in Profile #0. (Hint: Look at the picture above, and just match it inside of Profile #1)
8. After that, time for more matching! Go to the "PPP Config" tab on the top. We're going to first start off in the "Rm" tab. Copy everything exactly as you see here.
Okay, now we go to the "Um" tab. The only difference here is that you will need to check the "Req PW enc" option, and enter the MetroPCS MSL code that we got earlier.
Make sure you copy those settings, and get that MSL in there. Also, the red blocked off area in the picture above should be your phone number.
Finally, we're going to the "AN" tab. Copy the settings, and make sure you get the MSL code we got earlier in there as well.
Again, the red blocked off area in the picture above is where your phone number would be, and you need to get the MSL code in there.
9. At last, you can finally hit the "Write to phone" button in QPST. Your phone should now be rebooting.
==3. Configuring Web/MMS==
Really simple steps here, if you know what I'll be talking about here. Simple. If you do not know what a build.prop is, it's a sign that you should read this section carefully.
1. When your phone comes back on, go back into the dialer, and dial *#*#8778#*#*, and put your phone back into PDA mode on both UART, and USB.
**If you ever need to use CDMA Workshop or QPST again, you just go back into here, and re-enable MODEM. You need to go back into PDA mode in order to utilize your Nexus's NAND storage.**
2. Connect to a Wi-Fi network, and go into the Google Play Store.
3. Search for the application called "AnyCut", download and install it.
4. Go back. You need to also search for ES File Explorer in the Google Play Store. Download and install it as well.
5. Have that MMS Fix.zip file downloaded and ready to go as well, we're going to need to use it.
6. Let's save us some time for later on, first. Open up AnyCut, and tap on New Shortcut.
7. Tap on Activity.
8. Wait for the list to load, and look for "APNs", tap it, just press Ok, on the following pop-up.
SKIP EVERYTHING IN HERE. I'm trying to fix MMS
9. Mount your device in USB Mass Storage mode with your computer.
10. Copy the MMS Fix.zip file to the root of your Nexus S 4G's NAND storage.
11. Unmount properly, and power off your device.
12. Boot into recovery (You need a custom recovery, like ClockworkMod Recovery!). (While your device is off, hold the volume down and power buttons. On the boot loader screen, select Recovery, using the volume keys and the power button.)
13. When you are in your recovery, flash the MMS Fix.zip file, and reboot your device.
14. We're back into the Android OS now? Good. PROCEED.
Click to collapse
15. Go back to your homescreen and tap on the newly created APNs shortcut.
16. Open up the Sprint APN and match up the settings to the following below as EXACTLY as it's shown. Don't type in Not Set into the fields, just tap on a field, and empty it. Then press OK.
Name: metropcs
APN: internet
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mms.metropcs.net:3128/mmsc
MMS Proxy: wap.metropcs.net
MMS port: 3128
MCC: Don't touch.
MNC: 120
Authentication type: None
APN type: mms
===ICS users may have the settings below==
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: Its greyed out. If its not, check it.
Bearer: Unspecified
You're done with APNs, press MENU, and SAVE.
17. When you save your APN, the MetroPCS APN should be missing. That's great, we're making some nice progress. c:
18. Go back to your home screen, and open up ES File Manager.
THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU NEED SUPERUSER PERMISSIONS! (ROOT!)
19. When ES File Manager has fully loaded, press the menu key, and tap on Settings.
20. Scroll to the very bottom. Check ROOT EXPLORER, when you get the warning message, press yes. You MUST grant ES File Manager superuser permissions. Next, check Mount File System, and also check Backup System App.
21. Press the back key once.
22. At the top, press the Favorites button, and choose /
23. Open up the "system" folder.
24. Find build.prop, and open it by taping it and then tapping on ES Note Editor on the following popup.
25. Scroll down the file until you locate "ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric="
26. There should be a 5 or 6 digit number after the = symbol, change that number to 310120. Do NOT make any spaces after the = symbol.
27. When you're done, press menu, and tap Save.
28. When you saved the build.prop file, reboot your phone.
(KEEP IN MIND, MMS cannot be recieved or sent while Wi-Fi is on. Sending MMS while your Wi-Fi is on will break your MMS until you reboot your phone.)
===
Congratulations! You are DONE! You should now have working Talk, Text, Web, and MMS! (Depending on your plan.) If there's any problems, you can PM me, or attempt to post it here. I don't browse the forums that often but, its worth a try. To really get my attention, go to my website. http://HaxConnect24.com, and use the Contact Us form on my site.

I may wind up doing this after my Sprint contract ends, metroPCS is so incredibly cheap.
Thanks for a fantastic post, great detail and you even included screens!

i found qpst over in the ppcgeeks forums. someone posted several versions, some much newer than build 323 listed in the instructions above. i wonder if that is a good thing to use or not. no luck on finding cdma workshop 3.5+ though

It's a specific build that needs to be used, and you also don't have to just use CDMA Workshop 3.5. You can also use 2.7. I used 2.7 to get my Nexus up and going.

wow
Much respect bro thanks for your time and effort writing this ....

do you need a metro phone that already has services???

Not really. You can still flash your Nexus over to MetroPCS by following this tutorial, having your ESN added into the MetroPCS database, and changing the phone on your account.

Great tutorial. Quick question, would you be able to get metro's 4G working on the phone or can you only receive their 3G data?

Metro is LTE. NS4G uses Wimax... so not a chance

MetroPCS uses LTE. The Nexus has WiMAX. Two different technologies.

3G doesnt seem to work on 4.0.4 i get 1x instead... is seems to work with 2.3.x just fine
Anyway to get 3G back?

3g should work on 4.0.4. Go back and check your settings and that your prl is the correct one. Metro may have pushed prl 2004 to your phone.

As chainsaw said, yes, metroPCS is always going to periodically push out the 2004 PRL to your phone to rid of your 3G data. Just try to re-write the 3029.prl file to your device again. Weird though, the firmware of the device shouldn't be affecting your network data connection either.

Wrong. You can use wimax with metro. Go to clear.com sign up for service and enter your Mac address of the wimax and as long as you are in a wimax area... good to go.

I honestly never knew that. But I live in Florida, so there's no 4G service here. I'll surely give this a try when it comes.

I'm aware. ESN's can't be added by MetroPCS themselves anymore. However, it can still be done with services like eBay or so, but I won't mention who exactly to get it done with.

CDMA Sprint HTC Hero to Page Plus?

Kinda new here and I've been searching Google for a good hour to no avail.
I have a Sprint HTC Hero with active service through Sprint that I'm looking to switch to a Page Plus phone number (just purchased a pre-activated Page Plus phone from a local gas station). Main goal is to get the Page Plus service working on the Hero with the Page Plus number as the number for it with text and calling functionality.
I've seen a couple threads where people have said that they flashed their CDMA Hero to a Page Plus ROM and have no problem using it. I cannot find a ROM anywhere that says it's strictly for Page Plus which is making me wonder: Can any ROM be used on Page Plus? And if so, does this mean I switch carriers (Sprint to Page Plus) using another method?
Any help or points into the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I know people often get flamed for "not searching before posting" but I would be eternally grateful for any help that any of you could provide me. Thanks!
Did you ever find an answer to this? I want to do the same thing.
Easiest way would be to go to page plus website and see if the phone can be ported over. If the phone is in a contract with Sprint still you probably wont get your number. I know you can get a locked verizon to page plus but i went through, mingo 1st.
From HowardForums concerning Sprint handsets to page plus:
* Sprint (and Sprint MVNO) handsets are by far, the most difficult. All handset are locked, The OTA activation is incompatible. The MMS system (Picture Mail) is incompatible. IMHO, these handsets are more or less for serious hackers only.

change to the spc code to 000000, then manually program the phone.

danknee, I assume that by changing the spc code that during this process you are changing the esn code to the page plus phone's eventually correct?
The reason I ask is I may want to try this eventually on the new Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk plan. If I could get my Hero on there I might just do that. Or once the Evo comes out use the Hero to try putting it on there for my son...
I put a Sprint Samsung Instinct on PP using CDMA workshop. I kind of stumbled though it though. Howardforums is a good resource. I recall having to charge the spc, but definitely not the esn. Also, I had to use CDMA workshop to push a Verizon prl unto the. phone. When registering it with PP, I entered I had some other Samsung branded phone(done online).
I was able to use it as a phone but data & picture mails were not.
Good luck.
Changing the spc is just so you can get the phone to update ota. Same step you rake when flashing to cricket. I've done lots of wm phones to cricket. Mms is by far the biggest pain in the ass. From what I understand people have flashed the hero to cricket with working internet, but apps that use the internet do not work. Also, no mms. You will probably be looking at a similar situation here.
Solution
This is in fact quite simple. I recently did it myself. Google Kitty Wireless, and there is a page for manual programming. Download the PRL from that page, put it on your SD card, and click the phone. Type in ##prl# (Im pretty sure this is right, if not google, update prl) and find the file and update the PRL. This will flash your phone and make it use Verizon towers instead of sprint ones. Now that the easy part is done, use Kitty Wireless' activate page, add your ESN, and your phone is on PagePlus, you need to finish though by finish programming your phone.
Now, install aLogCat, phone, ##data#, veiw mode. Go to aLogCat, hit menu, pause, and scroll up to find the MSL code. Now go back, and instead of hitting view mode, hit edit, and type in the MSL code. This will allow you to finish programming it. Now go onto that manual programming page at kitty wireless and finish what they tell you to do.
Any more questions, Ill check back later and try to help.
HTC Hero(sprint) on pageplus
Data is definitely not working. Its an overkill to use HTC hero on pageplus for txt and voice only. I think the refference to "Serious hacker" earlier means making custom baseband firmware. The changes need to accomodate inputting pageplus settings. Or I wonder if anyone tried to load verizon eris baseband firmware on sprint hero.
A few days ago, I have done for activating my Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. I ported my phone number, so I didn't change my phone number but my carrier has been changed.. lol.
I posted the instruction to do it. Here you are.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789751
Also, I got the information about how to make the phone working for data and MMS. I didn't try it because I don't need data. Wifi is around me mostly. If you need, tell me.
------------ I copied the instruction here ------------
I really appreciate you, TpyoKnig.
Now, FINALLY I activated my Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. I don't need to waste money for data plan (at least $30/mo). As TpyoKing helped me to activate it, let me post some information I have done for my Hero, in order to help those who want to activate Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. If you have any question, tell me. (I'm not a dealer for pageplus. so please don't give me any money.)
Here are what I've got. (I added my experience.)
1) thing you have to have is root for your phone, if you have that then great! Also you need to be running a NON-Froyo Rom (the froyo roms, I've tested thus far) are lacking EPST which will be used later to program the phone. --> My case, I installed NFX-Hero ROM. After I activated my phone to PagePlus, I'm running CM6 ROM. It works fine now.
2) Search the Market (Via WiFi) and download 'MSL reader'
3) Write down that MSL (will need it later)
4) reboot phone
5) download pageplus.prl from a web and put on root of SD card
6) on your phone pull up the dialer (hit the green button) and put in ##775# (##PRL#) and put in your MSL code you got earlier
7) select "update PRL", drop down "Folder" to "SD Card" and push down on your navigation ball and then long press the "menu" key to make your keyboard lower and select pageplus.prl then select "ok", then press your "menu" key and hit commit modification
8) phone will reboot (Congratulations you'r now on Verizon towers!)
9) Get PagePlus to activate phone (eg, contact a local dealer) , tell them you are manually programming a Sprint phone and give them the IMEI and that you need your MIN/MDN and SID. --> In my case, I purchased pageplus from Kittywireless.com. They promptly provide MIN/MDN and SID.
10) on your phone, pull up the dialer and dial ##YOUR6DIGITALMSL# , then select edit mode
11) change Mobile Directory Number (MDN=your new phone number from pageplus) to what is given to you by PP/dealer
12) change MSID to your MIN (Mobile Identification Number) as suplied by PP/Dealer
12) press menu
13) commit changes
I'm really happy.
It Does Work...
DATA and MMS do work I have a Hero on PagePlus and can do both. In fact I've also helped 3 others do that same .
http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip has instructions (not made by me) and APN backup and restore, and the correct APN file needed for PagePlus MMS. Also has instructions on howto get the data settings correct using QPST.
If you have any questions or need help when doing the process PM me or email me [email protected] and I'll contact you back ASAP
Thanks,
Buddy
Thanks guys, got the data working on pageplus using that tutorial.

No Problem . I made it easy . took me a while to get it all working.
Thanks for the helpful information. I'm having some problems getting my Alltel HTC Hero cdma on Page Plus. If you have time, can you take a look at the question I posted as a thread? It's titled "prl update for page plus on alltel htc hero cdma".

no it doesn't that is not a requirement. just follow the directions that I've linked to: http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip
I have a few questions for everyone. I currently have about a year left on my sprint contract. I am willing to buy it out and switch to page plus, but I would like to save money on the phones. With sprint I have 2 HTC Heros. If I can get them to work that would save a bit of $$.
Question about procedure: In the directions (in zip file) it says they are for EVO, will it still work on Hero? Next question, in the directions it says "THIS TUTURAL IS ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE ALREADY BASIC FLASHED!". What does that mean? Is that the basic rom? My Hero is rooted and running CM6. My wife's Hero is stock sprint (1.5 I think).
Question about numbers (if you know...if not no biggie): I want to port my numbers from sprint to page plus.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

There was supposed to be more to that: I want to port my numbers from sprint to page plus. Should I do the flashing to page plus procedure first, then call page plus and get them to activate it? Or is the flashing procedure something I do after I join page plus? All in all, I want to keep my phone numbers, they might be worth more to me than the phone

[GUIDE] - Manually Changing PRLs via Diag mode with QPST

I did this so I can have a full scale Verizon PRL instead of a gimped Alltel one since I am on an old Alltel legacy plan. I built one of these guides (much easier) for the Droid Incredible and here's the follow up one for the Samsung Fascinate.
You can also use these same steps and applications to connect your phone via Diag mode with QPST. When you do, please be careful
Steps...
First acquire and install QPST. Hint google search "site:forum.ppcgeeks.com QPST and QXDM"
1 Get your MSL (I think they're all just 000000, so you can probably skip this)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8294762&postcount=14
2 Download a PRL that you want. Here's three spots to check...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...ybrid_for_Verizon_users_in_Alltel_tower_Areas
http://www.the-answerman.com/sidlist/prl/index.asp
http://www.corolada.com/prl/
3 Install GalaxyS Drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7238660&postcount=1
4 Put phone into modem mode, settings, wireless networks, enable dial up networking, say yes.
5 load up your device manager and watch for the com port (under ports) you'll need to know the port number later.
5 Plug in phone (usb)
6 launch QPST Configuration
7 Click Ports tab, then "add new port"
8 Type in the port number on the right "COM4" in my case, then Label it, I used "USB"
9 Click ok
10 Click the Active phones tab, your phone should be in there now.
11 Click Start Clients
12 Click Service Programming
13 Your phone should show up and press ok
14 Click the Roam tab on the new window, then Preferred Roaming.
15 Click Browse and select the PRL you want to apply, locate it on your hard drive and select it.
16 Click "Write to Phone", enter your programming code (this should be 000000) Press ok.
Phone will reboot, you can close out the QPST app.
All Done.
Normally don't bump my own posts, however I entirely changed this from a question on how to do it to a full scale guide for others.
Hopefully someone else will find this useful.
Good work man.

How to get 3g on boostmobile guide!!!

Disclaimer
The following guide is for educational purposes only, it is not intended to start, continue and or conducting illegal activities such as esn/meid changes that do not belong to you and or invasion of private network data, anything that can be proven as a means to obtain services that you have not paid but not limited to extending the human knowledge and testing our capacity to evolve into a better human race than what we are today…. LOL …..is true…
DURING THIS PROCESS I WAS USING WIN VISTA HP 32 BITS issues with drivers signatures on 64 builds.
Required software and Tools
QPST build 2.15 no exceptions
CDMAWORKSHOP 3.5 or above-please use paid version to support developers. If you don’t have the funds and or are cheap there is a cracked version floating around the web.
BOOSTMOBILE INCOGNITO- not really true any phone capable of receiving 3g signals and that you are able to read items 465,466,1192,1194 will work fine as long as the device is already in service with the network of your choice. However this one is intended on the boost/the now network prepaid bootlegged network.
Incognito win vista 32 drivers
Samsung Fascinate Drivers
STEPS FOR THE INCOGNITO DATA EXTRACTION ETC.
--1—after you have successfully installed the Incognito drivers please connect the phone. Launch CWS and connect to the dial port. Read the phone and head to the Security tab.
Click on SPC/lock and pull the curtain and select Universal Ram once done search for incognito. Send the spc once is retrieve and read and save NAM to a folder of your choice. Name it whatever you want, next head to other tab and read PRL and also save it to same folder. *found out the phone will work better with the PRL the incognito was working with. Don’t write anything from sprint may dropped your signal. I know is weird does not makes sense but feel free to explore.
Because of sprint prl it would override my data info and had to restart the process again. My experience. Now access the Memory tab under NV items and read the following numbers 465,466,1192,1194 each one individually. Your beginning address is the same as your end address for example: starting 465-465 do not do 0465-0465. Won’t work and may brick your fascinate once you write, repeat the process for each one and save with whatever name, preferably as the number item you are using. *very important* now we want to manually copy down your user id. On the phone dial ##3282# it will bring you to a menu insert your spc and access user name. please copy exactly.
Turn off your incognito and put it away. Take the battery out you don’t want someone else turning it on by accident. It will scramble your data settings on the fascinate.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO A FACTORY RESET ON THE FASCINATE. We don’t want any bits of information from a previous setting creating conflict with the new data.
At this point your Samsung Fascinate have acquired a new Dec number that was done that you don’t know, want to know or talk about. Main point is that you did not do it.
After reset phone will want to be activated. To bypass please dial *#83786633 and the Home Key
Now you want to enable the hidden menu. *#22745927 it will take you to a screen and select enable hidden menu.
DIAL ##3282# or **3282 or ##3282 which ever works for you send spc and change the user id on the phone to the one that you wrote down earlier. REBOOT
Depending on the rom you are using the DIAG option is under WIRELESS & NETWORK please select it and now your pc will be installing the required drivers if you have not installed them before.
Launch CWS and select port, read info and head to Security Tab. You must send the 16 digit password in order for all data to write correctly. If you don’t know this number here it is 2010031619780721. By default the password is 000000 but it will not work until you have enable hidden menu. Lets continue.
Once you have sent the spc please access the NAM and load the one you previously saved from the incognito, and click write.
Now do the same thing for the PRL on the Other tab. Exit cws and reboot, after reboots reconnect send 16 digits, you could do the 000000 but for some reason I feel that it does not writes everything correctly.
Head to the NV items section and Hit Write, it may say that you may needs spc first just click yes and load the 1st nv item starting with 465 from the file you saved them earlier in an ascending pattern. One all 4 items have been written exit cws and wait for it to reboot. Disable DIAG MODE. After the phone has finish loading the sd card etc if the 3g signal does not start after 10-15 seconds the following applies. Most likely you will need the next step.
Launch QPST 2.15 if you do not have cws you need to install QPST 2.7.323 due to the fact that under 2.15 the fascinate will appear under W5-FFA6250-T with limited tabs and NAM and MIP is not available.
Once online with QPST 2.15 we need to figure out the PPP config tab. Read the info on the phone and replace with the following data. This is what works with me whether on boost or Sprint alone
The following are horizontally just follow the name on each section,
-RM- ppp parameters
Config tries—Request timeout—Config NAK tries—Terminate tries—Request Time out—Comp settings—PPP Auth
20 1000 3 2 3000 5 3000
20 1000 3 3 1000 Disable
20 1000 3 3 1000 Ignored
User id do not high light it uncheck required pw Under PPP only click it but not check
-UM- same as above follow pattern
User ID this is funny and it should not work but it does. [email protected]
All lower case please.
Make sure that all is lower case. Also the password just click the box don’t check it leave it blank
Optimized Dormant Handoff box Checked do not click the 1xEVDO
-AN-
Userid
[email protected]@hcm.sprintpcs.com
Hit first save the Qpst file and write.
The phone will reboot but do not disconnect it until it has completely loaded all options. Disable Diag mode and with in 10 to 15 seconds you should have 3g. I was able to obtain 800-1350 kbs with speedtest.net
Note if you have another phone and want the data from the other phone the AN user id has to be same one that you program the very first time. Yes I know it does not make sense. But it does works. I hope this works for me as it has for me. It works for me and have reprogram various.
Any new news on this. Have a friend interested in this.

You need to be using a 2.1 rom with dial up networking mode or use 2.2 with the settings mod for it to be able to be read by QPST. and you need TWO versions of QPST for the settings to stick on the fascinate. after you've cloned the incognito make sure u turn that **** OFF!!! forever... just break that **** forreal because if not it will mess up the data settings (or get u in trouble for cloning since its "illegal"). This works the same as flashing to Cricket, as i know because i've flashed both of mine to cricket the month after we switched from t-mobile because of those two bs 200 dollar phone bills (now 113 for two lines). we dont use that much mobile data right now because we have WiFi at home.
My friend did this on his epic and it works flawlessly. I was actually gonna sell my fassy for 200 (i can get a new one from this store right around the corner to flash for 200). So if anyone wants a fascinate, i'll sell them it for 200, so i can get a epic on boost, and 35 a month with shrinkage plan =O
Really, you should look on the flashing the fascinate to cricket thread its much less jumbled. just take the incognito settings plug them in to qpst in the fascinate (exactly) and then the data "should" work. thats what he did lol... i was there the last 30 minutes before he got it actually working. PM me and i can put u on with him if you need help.
Wait a second, so I can take a boost phone and run it on the vzw network? Data and all? For pennies on the dollar?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using tapatalk
Nick were you able to make it work? it should work mostly in any rom. better on 2.2 faster 3g. I clocked that phone at 1450 kbps. My little brother has it now. no problems at all. let me know if you need help
NO not on the VZW but on boost or cricket or any other company.

you will get that but the 1x signal which is bull****, I am running this thing faster than the evo on Sprint 3g mode, we are actually talking about true 3g not your typical 400-800 kbps bs. cricket is different and much easier, cricket oass cricket etc bs, so simple even a cave man can do it. lol....
Is this usable on GB? I think cm7 breaks data ...
Have you tested on a GB rom?

This guide followed to the t works perfectly for the mesmerize as well... just thought id share.
I hate to revive a dead thread, but can this guide be used to flash a fascinate onto sprint as well? For educational and recreational purposes of course.
It should same steps.
I might have to try this. Verizon is robbing me

nice quide , it was really helpful , i have the fascinate working with 1x speed on boos which is suprisingly fast , i cant get mms to work though , any ideas .
I have 2 fascinates over on boost, I have not tested out the mms at all but I have full 1x and 3G speeds. if you dig around for boost mms on other phones for you will find things like
`` Dial ##3282#, edit and enter your epic’s spc, scroll down and on change the MMSC URL to “mm.myboostmobile.com” ``
and
``
MMSC: http://mm.myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com
MMS proxy: I left mine blank
MMS Port: 80
``
I used the later settings, but as I said, I have not tested my mms yet..
I have talk and text working fine, and I have the 3 g Icon but no internet .........can some one. please me

[GUIDE] How to change your PRL while using CM7

YES YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY
First off, huge props to Bierce and Oostah for all the searching and then providing me the info on how we might be able to enter DIAG mode on your phone while on CM7. All I did was manage to get it to work, and taking a leap of faith by trying to change my prl while using CM7
Something we never thought was possible...
Second, this isn't exactly for the faint of heart. QPST can really mess up your phone if you don't know what you're doing (read as: venture off and mess around with the program). Also, since I literally just did this this evening, there obviously hasn't been extensive testing with it. So "continue at your own risk".
Personally I haven't had issues with it and I've changed my PRL about 5 times to make sure it works. But still, it goes without saying: I'm not responsible if your phone gets FUBAR
What you'll need:
MSL -> (msl reader app)
Diagnostic Drivers (htc) -> google it for now, but I think these are the correct ones you need LINK
QPST -> Get the latest version here
install QPST
Get your MSL
Install the Htc Diagnostic Drivers (if needed)
Connect your phone to your PC
Open 'Terminal Emulator' on your phone and enter the following:
Code:
echo 1 > /dev/qct_diag_enable
This enables Diagnostics Mode, which enables us to use QPST
{

}
Open QPST Configuration
Select the "Ports" tab
Click "Add New Port"
Uncheck "Show Serial and USB/QC Diagnostic ports only"
Click on your device and hit OK
Highlight your phone on the "Ports" tab
Open up the "Start Clients" menu
Click on "Service Programming"
QPST Service Programming will open up and a "Phone Selection" window will appear: Click your phone if needed, and press OK
Now select the "Roam" tab and click on "Read from Phone" button
Enter your MSL, OK
Click on the "Browse" button and select the PRL file you want on your phone
Click the "Write to Phone" button next to the "read phone" button
Wait for it to finish writing to the phone. You might (read as most likely) get an error box, click OK on it.
Once all that is done, you can reboot your phone and enjoy the changed PRL without nandroiding, nand-restoring/flashing, etc. etc.
I just want to mention that the first time I did it, I lost my Mobile Data connection (3g) and after a reboot it was stuck on 1x. After another reboot, it was back to normal. But I believe that it was because I tried a verizon PRL that drops my service to almost 0.
End results
Yes, I know the status bars are 2 different colors. I have the Orion theme on my SDcard at the moment so it takes a little while to load up. But I assure you its the exact same CM7 rom and everything.
edit: oops double post >_<

NICE JOB man i found the same thing was coming to tell you about the
echo 1 > /dev/qct_diag_enable
and to disable it
echo 0 > /dev/qct_diag_disable
it may be echo 1 then > /dev/qct_diag_disable
i will test then edit post
it would be:
Code:
echo 1 > /dev/qct_diag_enable
echo 0 > /dev/qct_diag_enable
to turn diag mode on and off, respectively
/dev/qct_diag_disable doesn't exist
You can check that with terminal emulator...
Code:
su
cd /dev/
ls
Thought I'd mention that I've used this method easily more than 20 times between my phone and another hero with ZERO problems.
I know in the OP it might sound a little scary, the warning is mostly for screwing around with QPST in the areas not talked about.

When I click ADD NEW PORT, my phone is not showing up.
I am running Windows 7 Professional on my computer. For whatever reason, while trying to install the drivers and HTC sync, I could never get my phone to connect. I tried manually updating the diagnostics drivers to no avail. I fought with it for about an hour before saying forget it(not exact terminology). I am not sure if others have encountered this, but I will post my work around. I searched for a virtual machine solution with no results, so also not sure if its been talked about in other threads.
My job is programming controllers for building automation. I know a few pieces of our software will not work properly with W7. We have to run a virtual machine on our computers. Microsoft has been so kind that if you are running Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate, you can download, for free, an XP Virtual Machine. I'm going to assume, since what you guys are able to do with phones is over my head, you know what a Virtual machine is.
I apologize about the links, since I am a newbie, I can't post outside links, if you need the links, PM me and I will give them to you.
Here is the link to Microsoft's site where the VM ware is(I could only get IE Explorer to work, I normally use Firefox but it wouldn't work with the microsoft security): Google "XP Mode" The first link should be one to microsoft's website.
Go through the steps and download the xp mode and virtual machine. continue with the installation. With this, I installed Sync 2.0.40 with no problems. No additional drivers to install.
HTC Site: Under the downloads section on the HTC Site for the hero
Hooked up my phone. Everything worked as it should. I've now switched between a few different PRLS. I've been running CM7 and just switched to Jaybob's AOSP 2.3.5.
I'm not sure if this will ever help anybody, but I thought I would at least post it.
Great guide man. This helps alot with changing the prl. I really got tired of flashing back to stock then back to cm7. 2 thumbs up.

edit: Well i tried this little tutorial and it didn't do crap for me.
Nice guide, but that seems a lot harder than just doing a nandroid backup, flashing a sense rom (fresh in my case), updating PRL/Profile/etc, and restoring from your original backup.
Im stuck on 1x data with the PRL 21081. Should I try updateing to fix this? Also my Wifi says error all the time and wont turn on if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.
After some initial difficulty getting setup (the main issue being the diagnostic drivers (vista drivers) listed in the link didn't work on MY 64 bit win7 setup. I did find an alternate source that worked, I'll link it here if I can track it down...) I was able to get this working, and once setup, it's a breeze. Definitely easier than going back to a sense rom to do it.
It was only the initial setup that was a pain. So, my hero took a couple hours of mucking around to ultimately update the PRL, BUT, took about 5 minutes to update my son's, and the bulk of THAT time was getting msl reader on his phone, and rebooting after the write to phone phase.
Awesome.

Yeah, if you can find the link to what worked for you with this process that'd be great. I had the same problem you mentioned when I attempted this with the wife's phone. But I never found the right drivers. I would be eternally grateful.
These are the ones that worked for me, found them here, of course,

Unfortunately this didn't change anything for me. I am trying to update the prl on an evo shift though, so that may be the ultimate factor after all. I may just have to give in and revert her phone back to stock temporarily to update it. I've used QPST many times with updating my Epic, so I'm certainly comfortable with that aspect. I thank you for your assistance nonetheless. Hopefully it will be the determining factor for someone else in a similar position.

eP1c: CricKet - mms (yeah baby) 100% RESOLVED

#$#$#$#$#$#$# ATTENTION: #$#$#$#$#$#$#
FIRST AND FOREMOST:
A great thanks to the following Gentlemen. I had been trying to get MMS/CricKet going on my eP1c for weeks. Outside of the "apn rar" and 1 or 2 tweaks ALL of this stuff can be found on the following threads:
token419 http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2489543

Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968582
I take no friggin' credit here people. I am in a situation where I can screw with things on multiple eP1cs at once and see what works/what does not. AND let me be clear: When I say "works" I mean I personally watch it operate with stability on 3 or more phones for over 48hrs.
The fix is in..............................
Well I am glad to say that I now have MMS up and flying on both mine and 1 friends eP1cs. Listen, I have done some serious ROM flippity on 3 different eP1cs for Days & Days & Dazes-es..... You can probably get this working on anything EI22, but the only ROM I have been able to Send/Receive MMS on like Cricket made the phone is SleeperRom.
I am currently running SleeperRom 1.0.03
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345896
House of the Samurai kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345896
It just plain works with the following fix
I can only confirm this method working on the $55 Android Plan, on SleeperRom/House of Samurai.
Obligatory Disclaimer
If you get warts, if your newborn pops out with a foot on its forehead, if your teenage daughter runs off with the meth-head biker from down the street,
you find your wife having Gang-Sex with cut-throat multi-nationals,
or if your phone takes a GIANT **** on you: You are just plain fuct. I will brook no (read: ZERO) responsibillity.
I have tested this on basically EVERY ROM. Sleeper/Samurai 1-2 COMBO wins. I have been sending 1500kb + sized pics with a quickness on the local (38515) prl here in Austin. I have not tested with other prls but I cannot foresee it not working. If so PM me and we will try to get it worked out.
This is a sort of pieced together thing-illy...............
Things you need:
Root Explorer or some-such app with RW capability, the mms.apk & telephony.db, the apns.rar, and Tokens V10 (linked at bottom).
You will have to unpack the apns.rar and edit the xml file you extracted with Notepad++ or equivalent editor.(You can get a trial notepad++ for free, Google it.)
And I would also advise backing up your APN settings once your data is good with APNBackup&Restore (free on market) just in case you fubar it.
First, extract the xml from apns.rar and open it with Notepad++. Replace the two instances of multiple XXXs with your phone number then hit control-s to save the changes and close Notepad++. Now mount your sd card to the computer and create a folder named exactly "ApnBackupRestore."
Place the edited xml file into the folder you just created, and then place the mms.apk & telephony.db, the cricket_10_edify.zip & the APNBackupRestore.apk file on the root of your sd card.
Oldrighty thence. Flash ROM/kernel.
Once you have the CDMA/QPST stuff done and your Data Connection pegged, boot into Recovery and flash Tokens V10.
After reboot verify Data Connection then use Root Explorer to go into system/app and replace MMS.apk with the one you just downloaded, changing permissions to match that of everything else in there.
Now open the Voice Dialer and say "Open APN,s" Once opened, edit the Sprint APN to the following:
NOW EDIT TO THIS EXACTAMUNDO:
Name: Cricket
APN: cricket
PROXY: not set
PORT: not set
User Name: [email protected]
Password: cricket
Server: Not set.(just delete the little asterisk and hit ok)
MMSC: http:/mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms?X-Cricket-MDN=XXX-XXX-XXX
(your phone number for X's)
MMS Proxy: Not set
MMS Port: (leave at 80)
MCC: 310
MNC: 120 (I know what the other threads say. now fricking leave it 120)
Authentication Type: PAP or CHAP
APN Type: internet & mms
Now hit the Menu button then save. If the APN disappears do not sweat it.
Now back out to Homescreen.
Open root explorer and navigate to data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
and delete the telephony DB. Kill kill destroy......
Replace with the telephony.db . Change permissions to match the other apks.
NOW is when I would delete Autostart.apk if I had it installed.
Use root explorer or whatever to install APNBackupRestore. Now open APNBackupRestore and backup your current APN(just in case, and write down the file name, you will make mistakes otherwise). Now delete APNs then Restore the APN you edited.
Reboot the phone.
Hella-Mary---------------MMS should be blazing.
Now, if you are getting google frame work fcs try redoing the process but instead of replacing your telephony.db, delete it-reboot the phone then open theVoice Dialer and edit APN (my phone will only work stably on EI22 with the attached db).
Also, I would like to give a "Universal" sized shout-out to Justin D. Maggiolo of The Independent Android Project. He has been more Down for .:android monsters:. than anyone. Thanks J.D.

Thanks, made a few adjustments and now have mms working on my cousins epic. Thanks for the hard work again.

Hey Chief916, I cannot see why it would not. I have yet to do any Metro stuff. From cross-referencing the threads though, looks like Token has mms/web setup zips for Metro on his thread. Just do the APN stuff by hand (change in Settings & PST), and if you run into one-way traffic errors, do not flash a new telephony.db to try and fix it, just delete whatever telephony.db that is in there. Then reboot, do your APN Set-up again and you should be able to send receive. And I will also tell you that ALOT of phones only send/receive if you leave the damn MNC setting inside the APN settings the hell alone. Hey, sorry I do not get by here more often, quite the bee these daze................................
I used this thread to do a metropcs epic.

I tried this and it only works for picture messages, there's not an option for adding sound or crashes when I find a work around to select a sound. Here is my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349729
Sounds are a hit and miss for me, currently I can send short clips like notifications but not ringtones.
EDIT:
Sounds are definitely a hit and miss, I now have both long and short sounds sending using my directions??? It probably just needs to be "exercised" lol
Solved the Metro MMS issue... again

Use this guide to get MMS for Metro. Replace the mms.apk as directed. Do Not remove the telephony.db file(dont replace or delete). Go to voice Dialer, say open APN. Create MetroPcs apn with these settings. For the record I used CleanGB Rom 1.0 - EI22 Modem.
If you should encounter any difficulty after rom flashes, make sure your prl is current. I ran across a problem earlier that stumped me for a bit, airplane mode would toggle on/off and became frustrated to no end.

I'm confused about finding the right kernel for this.... your link for House of Samurai kernel is the same page as the Sleeper rom, which lists Shadowkernel as its kernel... did I miss something? I skimmed thru about 15 pages of that thread's comments, and searched for "Samuari kernel" and only found the "earthbound_IAP_EI22" kernel.
Where does the HOS kernel live? >_<

I call myself following this verbatim, but mms still not working. However, i didn't flash a new kernel. I don't know where to start looking for the correct one. Also, i don't know where to delete autostart.apk other than going thru the market where i got it and uninstalling. I'm running bugless beast GPA19 2.3.7 gingerbread 2.6.32.9 kernel.
