[Q] Which MIUI is best for Defy MB525 Green Lens? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm a noob here but I have tried a couple of ROMs like CM7, CM9 and WIUI. For me the WIUI looks very good but I don't think it is being updated anymore (pls correct me if I'm wrong). I've seen that MIUI has many variants (WIUI being one of them) so can you kindly tell me which one do you think is the best? And if ever you've tried other roms that are better than MIUI then please feel free to tell me. Thank you.

I've been using WIUI (GB) for a while and have tested a bunch of different ROMs CM7, CM9 (with both Froyo and GB kernel, Epsy, Quarx, Maniac, Euroskank, White Rabbit ), MIUI (WIUI, Galnet, Picachu) and I keep coming back to WIUI. It just works for me.
All listed and others are great developers and each brings something different. It just depends on what you need and what's right for you. e.g. If you need your camera without fail, CM9 is not the place to be. If the camera is not important, test out the CM9s and see which one fits you the best.
Don't forget to thank the developers and, if you can, send them a few bucks for the work they do. They pretty much do it on their own time and without compensation.

ive tried almost all available ROMS for DEFY --- but --- Trust me ... from the time i started using PIKACHU ive never been able to go to some other ROM ... u too try it .. its awesome !!

Stable ROM's for green (soc) lens defy

Hi
I have been through all the threads checking on various ROM that seems to fit a SOC lens. Most threads hold too much of information for a novice like me.. So I seek help from all the learned members to help me (or us) in choosing a good stable rom for a greenlense defy.
Ofcourse, CM9 is still on trial basis and CM7 is also a stable rom...
Anything other that these for us??
First of all do you want a custom rom like miui or cm7 or do you want a rom with motoblur or the stock look like walters rom?
Hi
I have installed GGL ROM by adi4motion. Its a blur account. But however, the camera is pathetic and there are lot of FC when trying to record cam or take a pic.....
I want a stable rom that has good camera

I have tried dozens of ROMs. However, CM7.2 nightly is my favorite.

[Q] Can anyone please help me here - Noob. <)

Hi, I'm a noob just bought a new Defy (my first Android device)
I know this will annoy most of you here, but I have been reading this forum for past few days but couldn't come to a conclusion. So thought of posting a new thead.
I have a Defy running on Eclair and wanted to upgrade to 2.3 or to some custom ROMS, but I got too much confused reading all about Stock ROMS, CM7, CM9, MIUI and other Custom ROMS.
I just want to upgrade my phone from 2.1 and I desire a ROM which will give me Great Performance and Good Battery Life.
Can anyone here be kind enough and give me a simple explanation of what should I do.
You can post a wacky caption as well.
Thank for any help.

Don't have time to give instructions now, but DO NOT flash a full 2.3.6 sbf/upgrade to 2.3.6! Stay on froyo. It is possible to run all custom roms with this as base, also the newest 2.3.6 gingerbread ROMs. Someone please specify for the guy^^

Okay thanks mate for that info.
Currently i'm on Eclair so i think first of all i have to upgrade to froyo then i can think of going to cm7 and othet custom roms, right?
As you all would have played with lot of custom roms, can anyone suggest me which one should i go with?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
It's really just a matter of taste. Here are some of the main categories of custom roms:
MIUI
CM7
Modified stock roms
CM9 and CM9 based ICS roms (that's ICS, android 4 . Not stable yet, maybe never 100% without unlocked bootloader )
There are many different flavours to choose from within most of these categories, but there are already a lot of threads about this. You need to read, read, read before you start flashing custom roms. Have you read the All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide? Every defy user should read it. Every single day a noob starts a new thread about a bricked defy: "please help me, my father will kill me if he finds out about my defy", etc, etc. These questions have ben answered 1,000,000 times already, so use the search function before posting!
By the way this thread should be moved to the Q&A section. Moderator will take care of that when it's reported...

New to the Defy - most recent stable rom

Hi,
I've picked up a motorola defy, and am wondering what is the most recent e.g ICS, rom that is stable and everything works?
So far i've rooted the phone and that's about it.
It's a 2.51 UK phone.
I'm familiar with the HTC Desire S roms, but haven't a clue when it comes to the Defy.
I've searched through the dev forum, but can't quite get an indication of what's what.
Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks for any replies.
Did you maybe already found out if it has green (SOC) lens or red (bayer) lens camera module? SOC only works on Froyo kernels, while bayer works on both Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. (Which is not of great importance, cause almost all ROM's are available for both kernels)
Anyways... What do you like? Here are some of my recommendations...
For MIUI v2 - Pikachu MIUI (WIUI comes 2nd, as Pikachu had fewer bugs for me and was overall snappier)
For MIUI v4 - WIUI v4
For CM7(.2) - maniac103's builds or FuZZ's KANG's - almost the same, but details do make them different
For CM9 - Epsylon3 made the latest CM9 builds with the final fixes and touches
For AOKP ICS - There's a Milestone 6 coming up soon, built by Kayant (he's building from source, port's can't compare with that)
For JellyBean - I must say I would recommend ParanoidAndroid, which is based on CMX, but somehow manages to be snappier and much better at RAM management. AOKP JP alpha is snappy, too, when compared to CMX. Although the CMX I'm talking about is the one build by Quarx, but people do say tha Epsylon's builts are better performance-wise.
Thanks.
From the looks of my lens it's bayer.
Are any of those roms a default/minimal ice cream sandwich? That's all i'm after really, as I guess jelly bean will have loads of stuff not working correctly yet.
Actually CM10 is working as good as CM9, maybe better. But I must say, I switched to CM10 since the 2nd nightly, and never went back to CM9, so maybe there was an improvement since that in CM9 nightlys...
But you should try them all and choose which you like

When you say minimal, I'm assuming you mean feature-wise, not GUI-wise, so I guess the best choice for you would be to wait up for AOSP Jelly Bean which Kayant is trying to build from source here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
If you don't want Jelly Bean, but ICS, then I think this is the way to go - CM9 Moto Ice Gun - http://www.custom-android.de/portfolio/cm9-motoicegun-edition/ (you can find it in the defy development forum, too). Most of the guys who tested it claim that it's the fastest ICS ROM for the Defy.

i still think , that CM9 is the most stable rom for defy
CM9 is fatser then GB , ICS if definitely better then GB in all terms
so a recent stable rom - CM9 .
but in near future , if TI releases proper SGX drivers for our devices .. then , m sure CM10 will be the most stable rom for defy .
IMHO I would choose CM10
What Kayant is doing isn't pure AOSP. It has some fixes!
I was talking with Quarx recently and he said that CM10 is very similar to pure AOSP..so trust me...go CM10

I've given AOKP ICS milestone 5 a go.
Seems to be lacking polish compared to the HTC ICS roms with sense 3.6 - I guess that's something i'm going to have to get used to. I don't like his boot screen either.
When I say minimal i mean without a bunch of pre-installed stuff like games, twitter etc..
Boot screen can be changed for one you like

All ROMs are minimal then!
They come only with essential apps preinstalled (DSP manager, HWA Settings and FM Radio) + default ROM ones (phone..camera...you know)

I can't have working tether since CM9 from Quarx or E....
I don't know whether I'm using BL6 kernel (2.3.6) on Defy which cause this problem.
Also, since CM9, I can't play myTV (apps from TVB) live broadcast.
Anyone can help to try it on your CM9/10? Here is the apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickplay.tvbmytv
Quarx,no doubt, he develops this. Anyways, if it includes some apps you don't want or some to add simply do this with an archiver manager on computer...
Hi all!
What stable ROM do you guys recommend for Defy green lens? I recently installed the most stable CM7 and I like but there are some thing I don't quite like, like the incompatibility with Titanium backup, the vibration issue for notifications, and the battery life didn't improve significantly. So, I am looking for the one but without having to flash 7-8 roms, that where you guys coming in, which rom out there is the best and stable for defy green lens?
And if you could include a download link would be great, because I encountered so many sites with links and versions and rom and kernels, and this and that, that is confusing for a newbie like me.
Thank you!

You could try with cm11, goes very well, but has some bugs with bluetooth, calls and other stuff, you could try the 20-01-14 build, or you can try the latest build of cm10.2 by quarx

Thank you for your answer. I will try that. I have another issue though last night I charged my phone, today it was at 98% well I went online to check my email and the battery went from 98% to 5% like in 7 minutes, and the main reason I flashing my phone was because battery life, I guess the joke was on me! :crying:

Both, lol, my battery is 2+ years old and I should try CM10.
From all the CM10 and 11 what version is the most stable? If I flash it could I go back to stock eventually? (keep in mind that I have a Defy green lens) because if these custom roms don't work quite as smooth I think I'm going to ended up flashing the stock rom.
Diego, Thanx for all the help!

[Q] Best JB rom for defy+ and how do I install it?

First of all, Im 100% n00b. I've got no experience in roms...
Just rooted my Defy+ and looking to install a fast and stable rom.
Is there an ics/jelly bean one with everything working and with no bugs?(For daily use?)
Also plz tell me how to install it. I know you need to install 2ndinit, wipe caches and then flash the rom and google apps. ( And a lot of fixes)
What else do you need to do?
Any help will be really appreciated!
There are lots of ROMs that are at a point that they are daily-use ready. There is of course CM10 JB which I am personally running on my green lens defy. I love it. Asking which is best though will just start a fight. Your best bet is to select one and try it out. Do a forum search to locate a step by step walkthrough. Quarx has a good one in the FAQ I believe. Once you have played with one a little, try another. This will help you get comfortable with the process and help to understand what each step is doing. I have tried aokp, paranoidandroid, and cm9 and 10. So far my favorite is cm10. I use the minimalgapps to save room in the ROM. Make sure to search the forums before posting. Lots of information is already here. Happy flashing!

cm10 by quarx is good!
If you want speed go with cm 7 if you want the new features cm 10 (drains battery)

Most Stable Android Yet

Hello Friends,
Been here after a long time gap. SO have no idea about new developments etc..
I am using AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB2.3.7 CM7.2 at the moment and want to change it now. Have been great but off late has started hanging, auto rebooting etc..
Please advise which is the most stable option I can move on to.
Cheers!
As said before no one can advice a rom to any one you need to try for your self and this is the wrong section for this post there is a Q&A section for that don't hesitate to post any question there or better search before posting as it may happen for someone to ask the same thing your asking.

As he said, search before posting and post in the correct sections. The most stable version may differ from phone to phone, but generally it's CM7 or MIUI GB.

This has been my experience exactly. Did not like CM7 versions, but the MIUI GB ROM has been my go-to ROM for nearly 2 years now. I'm back to it now, after trying out various 4.0 and 4.1 ROMs, and I have to say the MIUI one is smoother and doesn't get buggy and laggy (haven't had any problems in at least 2 months now, which is actually quite a long time based on prior experience with other ROMs).
