Tired of FROYO

I know everyone is all in a hurry to get the OTA for FROYO. I also would like FROYO but enough is enough with all the posts. The fact is most of the people on this forum wont get the OTA anyway because they will either wait for a build from eugene or bionix or they cant get OTA because they are not running stock firmware anyway. Just be patient. I would rather wait till a good version of FROYO without a ton of bugs comes out than have them push some crap FROYO on us and then have to have 10 updates to make it work correct. This is just my thought Flame me if you want. Me personally Im waiting for eugene or bionix to come out with the versions they will mod anyway. So do us all a favor and stop with the I heard through my uncles cousin twice removed about FROYO.

I have a friend who works in the Sprint retail store and he told me that developers at Samsung are currently working on a Gingerbread for our Epic4g. He said the latest build was ZM>9000 and that they let him test it and it was pretty awesome.

Well, I just wanted your opinions, so I posted......................... lol, but I see now that much of the Galaxy S team has lost its spirit, but what if we get gingerbread before the EVO? How will it feel then?

It will feel horrible because it will be a buggy mess. Let them get Froyo sorted out before they begin to use this as a buggy base of their Gingerbread build. I do believe Samsung will deliver Gingerbread, but dont even think it will be before Summer 2011. I have nothing against Samsung really. They could do better with software support though. And you will find ridiculous skepticism among people at XDA for anything positive that is "supposed" to be coming from Samsung in the future.

I personally do NOT think we will ever see another update past froyo...
We might get a froyo update to fix bugs and what not but as far as 2.3 ect, they will leave the epic by the wayside and focus on the galaxy S2 series and other newer phones. The epic was just a complete failure and they know it, thats why they are come out with galaxy S2.

well idk, its a tough call...
took a long time for froyo...
but then you can look at it like "well samsung sees how the US folk are all pissed off so they might start trying to release more updates bla bla"
if the epic does get gingerbread, dont expect any update past that..because past that Samsung will expect us to do our part and buy another Samsung device.

I think personally Gingerbread will come just to rebuild some goodwill with the people of this country. Then maybe with that, we would buy the next uber Samsung phone. At least by getting Froyo, my Evo owning friend can now shut up how his Evo is soooooo much better than my Epic because it hbas Froyo (even after showing him my pics and videos look better, screen looks nicer, can play more vido formats natively) because that was the only thing he could point at. Now we're even.

If Gingerbread comes, it's not going to be for a while; otherwise, why would they have bothered releasing FroYo?

Don't confuse Samsung, LEAVE EB13 as it stands!!
Finish GB so we don't have to wait until 2.4 or 2.5 drops before we get 2.3!

Edit: So this is pretty interesting. The Galaxy S International is supposed to get it mid April, which is pretty soon. The fact that they are already testing builds on Sprint is a good sign.

lol i'm almost dissapointed! i was looking forward to the CM7 build being created from the Nexus S rom.... almost but not. go sprint/samsung! i think getting a quick GB update would make the froyo debacle much more bearable. curious though... why 2.3 and not 2.4? i thought gingerbread officially made the transition to 2.4

Also gotta tell you few brave posters out there who were optimists about GB and its shortened development window were right. Wish I could remember specifically who it was but no more than 2-3 I'd guess, and I admit I wasn't one.

Lets hope it doesnt get released in a few months.

I agree, kind of. We had leaked versions of Froyo back in early November. Froyo wasn't officially released until mid March. Thats 4 months. Obviously there were complications (z4root) that caused major delays and the porting of Gingerbread shouldn't be nearly as difficult for Samsung, but . . . . you never know. If Gingerbread is launched officially in mid August, its still a major disappointment.

They haven't done much to deserve it. The least they could do at this point is confirm it to the public, not make people sit and hope.

Given the relatively short gap between these rdfs and actual updates in the past, I actually don't expect this to come months later. Maybe overconfident of me but the differences between Froyo and GB being supposedly much less than Eclair to Froyo, I think it looks good--maybe just weeks?

Google just dropped ICS to AOSP in case you didnt yet know. Hope to see some roms soon

If the devs were REALLY any good, they'd already be working on the source AS IT BEING PUSHED.

It's CM9. CM8 would've been Honeycomb, but obviously the source was never released.

There's a reason I asked for an official source ... I read an article yesterday that said Obama was pregnant with Palin's love child, but I haven't seen anything posted on rumors.gov...
On a more serious note, CM numbering has not matched Android versioning directly, but rather has been incremental, which is why I say that there's a chance the ICS version could be CM8, since a honeycomb version doesn't and won't exist.

Depends on how you're rooted. You still get it if you're rooted and are on a stock ROM, it just won't install if you have CWM installed.
If you don't have CWM installed, you'll get ICS and no root and a new locked bootloader. Of course this assumes you're not running a custom (non-stock) ROM. If your not running a stock ROM then you'll never see it.
Anyway, take the OTA you'll loose root and will need to find an ICS exploit to root it.

Yes im runnning a custom ROM, where i can get normal acer ROM. I have checked acer website they only got 3.1 ROM on there website.

What's wrong with that? Load the 3.1 and it will automatically OTA to the latest version.

I guess my question on this is why do we care so much about the release. I am pretty happy with HC and could not imagine what new features or tweaks ICS could have that would make me want it so bad...

Ice Cream Sandwich will Bring World Peace.Wealthy bank accounts.. OHH Hardware acceleration Ui .as well as many under the hood improvements for Honeycomb tablets.. Not to mention its something new to play with and BIXXH about .
What more could anyone in the universe want or need.
