[Q] Arc S ICS Overclock Method - Xperia Arc General

Anyone knows how to overclock Xperia Arc/ Arc S with android 4.0.3?
it would be wonderful if it can be done like in 2.3.4.

Depends on the kernel you use..! And use setcpu or no frills cpu control.

my kernel version is the original one.. -> 2.6.32.9-perf
ive tried setcpu n it stuck on 1401Mhz which is the actual processor speed of Arc S..
i was wondering is there got any specific data to do the ICS overclock because i went thru internet to check and sadly most of the time i only got the method to overclock for 2.3.4.. there is no real way to overclock 4.0.3 android for arc s yet thru internet i supposed?

To overclock you need to use a custom kernel. With Stock/Original kernel you can not overclock, I think. Look in the ARC Development section for custom kernel, that can be used for over clocking.

You have to flash a Custom Kernel.... Either DoomKernel or ArcKnight

Jimbo77, is there any way to overclock without unlocking the bootloader? Is any such kernel available?

Could any harm come from overclocking?! (except for battery life will be shorter)

You can potentially damage your phone if you don't over clock safely.

By damage you mean from the heat that might come from overclocking?!
or something else?!
cuz I overclocked my Arc S to 2GHz using DoomKernel and SetCPU

I haven't overclocked myself, so I can't answer that for you. All I know is unsafe overclocking could damage the processor from pushing it past its limit (I think).
But you've overclocked without any problems, then I wouldn't worry too much.

I guess I will look up more info by searching the forum to see if anyone has encountered and issue or damage.

No, you need to unlock bootloader to be able to push a custom kernel to the phone.

For sure you can harm your device permanently remember that you're pushing the cpu way beyond it's planned capacity but as per my own experience and by reading a lot through the forums...
You can safely OverClock up to 20% above the original margin, so lets said that you have the ARC you can easily and safely push the phone up to 1.2GHZ and it wouldn't cause that much harm...

thanks bro. yeap i knew that but the problem is. the kernel is for 2.3.4 i supposed? i need to know whether is it can be used in 4.0.3 too? because the kernel version being said so on "not remember which threads i read before" only for gingerbread version. so im telling myself that my phone might brick or give prob if the kernel doesnt support 4.0.3 version of android.
do u know any kernel that can be flash in android 4.0.3 version for arc s?

Anything i need to do, to get over 998mhZ at least 1.1?
Ps: I got hw 003, when i used hw 002 take me over 998mhz

What you recommend me to get a custom Kernel? Please xda reference
I got it custom kernel and work fine. I got 1190MHZ now and i got a benchmark MFLOPS 8.202 Time: 0.66 seconds.
Its good?

[Q] Overclocking Doubt

Hi guys,
I finally got my Desire Z today, I have root it with visionary 14 without a problem.
Now that it is root I tried to overclock it, but I cant overclock it more than 800 mhz.
Is this normal or do I need to do something more?
Thanks a lot in advance

you will need to install either a custom rom (which will have an overclocking kernel) or just a overclocking kernel (bother of these options require s-off and custom recovery)
or you can push the overclocking modules to the phone, however you will lose this and have to re-do each time you reboot the phone.
Thanks for the answers

Does it really makes a difference to overclock it to 1ghz??
Well i oc to 1.4ghz and it really smoothens it out it heavy load situations. Newsrob with tons of news is really quickly updating now.brwsr and opera mobile is dazzling fast with wifi n. Im really fond of it.

I don't think so. If you follow the oc method offered earlier by someone here, the oc sticks, it does not undo itself.
Correct.

Nice reading.
That is an overclocking kernel just like I said before, so I am correct.

[Q] Overclocking With HCDR's Kernel.

First, I would acknowledge the great work HCDR has done !
With that done, I would like to resolve some of my doubts.
I just flashed CM7 and then 4.1 kernel of HCDR.Jacob.
SetCPU allows me to set max CPU speed of 768.. I keep it at 691 with on-demand scaling, but it automatically reverts back to 591 over a period of time.
Can anyone tell me why this happens ?!
Also, any insight on how this modes work would be appreciated.
If I want to manually want to force my phone to operate at a certain speed, how do I do that ?
Thanks,
P
If u are using CM7 why are using SetCPU?
CM7 has it's own OC settings features.. settings>> cyanogenmod settings>>>performance>>>cpu settings

Why are you flashing HCDR kernel? It's not necessary to do that anymore in CM7.

Thanks. I did not know that.
Is there anyway, I can revert back to original CM7 kernel. Coz I already flashed that kernel. Does it even make a difference ?!
One more thing, what CPU governor should be chosen ?!
I would want my phone to be auto-OCed when I play games but DCed when idle.
Would "on-demand" be a good choice ?! Or "smartass" is better ?

AnTuTu Score of Stock Kernel Users ONLY!!

Hey guys!! all those who can't unlock their bootloader and can't get the most from your phone, here's a thread to share your pain and compare your antutu score with the people of your line ( like me )
Edit :- SD card score will not be considered as it differs acc to class.
Here's mine. I know its low but want to see what's the highest score on STOCK KERNEL and let's share what all tweaks we did with our rom.
* Rom - PrimeHD v6.0
* Tweaked to increase 2D and 3D score.
Here's my score before unlocking of course
1796
LinuXperia v7
Stock kernal
Now no pain
i hope u manage to unlock it

bro!! dont u use any tweaks or ram manager or something like that. If yes, please do mention, in the end we would b able to see which rom provides highest score
Froyopro v.2.4
stock kernel
CPU ondemand governor
no special tweaks
Tried PrimeHD before, but Froyopro gave better results.

Bro, there is a post above which has higher score. So what u think, want to give a try to it or u feel this to b a perfect rom?
I'm not glad to find that cose I like to experiment with new ones, but it seems that old froyo works better on stock kernel.
Edit: one thing I dont like about froyo is partitioning sd card
You shouldn't include the SD card when doing a benchmark test as everyone has different cards.

Primehd 6.0 for stock kernel without overclock. I think its preaty good....
Edit:I am not sure if the attachment Is all right because i am using xda premium .I will try again later. The score is 1642.
Well this is my personal rom. Hopefully I will get permissions soon to release it. But anyways this is a constant score I get with many apps installed and running. Stock kernel, overclocked at 768.

Overclocking the MXP

So i've meaning to ask, have anyone tried to overclock the MXP? I mean like overclock past thought 1200MHz and so on?
and the overheating issue is a b*tch being to me when i try to overclock it with "Kernel Adiutor",of course I couldn't past through the 1200MHz limitation but hey, it was an interesting experiment.

Its a kernel thing.
There are cheap Chinese phones out there with better specs than this phone. Rather than overclocking & risking to damage it, I would say getting those phones are a good alternative solution.

Try the latest squid kernel. The overclock is just mild to keep everything stable.

The kernel must also support this overclock and the only option you have is squids kernel. 1209Mhz on the little and 1708Mhz on the big cores is the limit at this moment. You cant overclock a stock kernel only using a kernel manager.
