[Q] Differentiate between US and CAN WiFi Tabs? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

So I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 I bought here at best buy in canada a while ago and threw some custom rom's on it right away. Then in prep for the annoucement yesterday I followed Overcome's method to get back to stock. My question though is am I on stock US tab now? Or how do you differentiate between the two? Is it just tied to the Samsung Account you need to update your device?
If there is a difference in versions, how can I find a stock Canadian ROM? I have searched but came up empty handed.
Cheers

Works like a charm. NOTE: You need to be rooted for this to work. I tried going from the US stock unrooted 3.2 and it kept crapping out on the restore of the system. Rooted the US stock and tried it again and works great! Hope this helps someone.

So if you are in Canada and had a US rom on your tab and flashed the Canadian rom and successfully upped your tab to the Cancadian ICS then technically anyone here in the States should be able to do the same thing and have ICS and avoid the wait.

If it would be only that simple... Methinks the serial/type number (and IMEI if applicable) will also come into play as this is transmitted back to the OTA server (at least, that is what I heard).
So, you could try when the 'got it' messages start flying about, but my guess is that it will not work.

Canuckucklehead here
Hey im the same boat as the other fella i have a Canadian tablet with a us rom after i tried out s ome other roms and wanna go back to canuck so i can get ics.. but everytime i try your rom my clockwork mod doesn't detect it.. am i doing something wrong? Am i using the wrong clockwork? I import and put it in the backup file of clockwork mod and try the back up restore but nothing even when i try to direst it by pick from zip file it doesn't detect the rom.. please help!!

I don't think there are any physical differences between wifi tabs are there? Its only what software that gets installed on them. Like how the US version has access to music in the play store but us Canadians don't.
I know with my Tab 10.1 3g internally its identical to the US. I use a T-mobile SIM with it and it works great when traveling to the US. But the back on my Telus unit has the pebble blue back on it and the T-Mobile reps were loving it because their Tabs all came with white backs.

Right on the dot. Hardware (except for colour) is same, software just a smidgen different, but there are no running fights between Apple and Samsung here in Canada. We are not important enough as a market.

I just bought a stock Canadian 7510 from a friend and did a factory reset on stock recovery....tried OTA and there still isn't an ICS update for this machine. I thought I would hold out but it's just not worth the wait when there are so many smooth and stable custom options. CM10 and AOSP have spoiled me...the 2nd camera would just be icing on the Jellybean cake.

Same here, none of my friends' Canadian P7510 tablets (some US ones did get the update, while in Canada) have seen any movement, neither OTA nor Kies... Seems we will have to wait "because we are too friendly"...
Ah well, even though it is not fun, it is what it is. Is CM10 now with fully functional cameras for the P7510? Methinks that will be the way to go anyhoo...
Still doing my twice-daily checks on ICS, which keeps me off the street. What better way to spend time in anticipation of something that may be coming later in the fall...

UK Xoom now getting 3.1 OTA

Just brought a Xoom today and after trying to find ways to get 3.1 manually installed, low and behold I reboot and get greeted with a Üpdate found - 3.1
Being a new xoom, i need to charge it for a bit first before it would let me!
So if you have a UK Xoom, reboot and check your updates
What store has open on a sunday?
If its true that you got the update is great news.
Do you have wifi-only or 3G?
You sure? I got nothing here on my 3g / wifi
Nothing here on Wifi model.
Can anybody confirm this?

I think they ship with 3.0.1, don't they? I've bought two (returned the first due to screen problems) and both had 3.0.1 when I first booted them.
I think this is someone's cruel joke
Pics or it didn't happen!
just spoke to my friend who works at carphone warehouse, part of the geeksquad and he says its not out in the uk for another 2 weeks (fully) but will be starting to roll out from tomorrow.
Whether this is 100% accurate not too sure
I guess this would be for the 3G model? I hope Wifi roll-outs begin soon and I get it soon... Patience is not my greatest virtue
no it isn't a joke and it was a device brought today in PCWorld, so its not an import as suggested. All I did was restore to factory settings, added my gmail account and connected to wifi. It instantly found the update and I'm now on 3.1.
I have no need to lie, I'm a regular poster and although a new to the xoom...I know android.
What was so annoying was I had been trying to root it to get 3.1 but after bootloop I had to get the firmware from Motorola UK, reflash the boot and system.imgs and recovery.img and was back to a full OEM stock xoom. Whether that has anything to do with it, I couldn't tell you.
Anyway hope that. Explains a bit more.
Why does the XDA app FC once you login? Hoped 3.1 would sort that as even with the browser ,XDA lags.

Kies 2.0.3 Update to Gingerbread 2.3?

So I installed Kies 2.0.3 and hooked my friends Vibrant up to it and it says the device is not supported. I know for sure from the Samsung web site it says to download Kies and hook up your Vibrant and you can click the update button to get 2.3. I have all the drivers etc installed. The device is recognized by Kies Mini but that version doesn't support the 2.3 update.
Any ideas why?
I also tried a one click root that did not work, signature failed in recovery.
Bro theres no 2.3 update for us.. go download one of our excellent makeshift gingerbread ports

No official update of GB for US Vibrant
Either Samsung or T-mobile abandon us already.
Flash GB manually in your own risk, and no more dream about GB from the above stupid companies

That is Canadian version
Well my friend says his Vibrant T-Mobile says it is SGH-T959 and according to that link the Fascinate is that model. What's the deal with that?
I know about SAMSUNG and how they don't support their devices. I have the EPIC TOUCH and I am hoping due to the agreements with ICS that they will be forced to support devices from here on out.
The US Vibrant is indeed the SGH-T959.... I'm not sure why they used the same model number for another variant as well. But it is just that, a variant.
We've been trying to get Gingerbread from Tmobile/Samsung for a long time now. It just isn't going to happen for us.
To be honest I could not care less, even if we would get official 2.3.3
Even that is totally outdated. If we get gingerbread I would want the latest version.

This is a typo on this website The GT-9000 is the Euro version Even though they stated it as the Vibrant......... it is not. We do not have a 2.3 upgrade yet.
Also I would not use Kies but follow the instruction inside here on rooting and then flash a custom rom.
We are so lucky there are at least a dozen current AWESOME roms for this phone.

I spoke to Samsung couple of days ago and they have no idea when it be released as they have so many network to cater for, they say it will come out but not any time soon so I have returned the phone for same reason.

Hi guys,
Just got back on the forum after many years.

well, its not quite as reliable (a few glitches here and there). it looks nice and so on. haven't noticed a lot of differences. (when signing into an open wifi network, it gives a notification that you need to accept terms and conditions - if that makes sense - which i like). if she isnt a nerd like me, who likes new things, i'd probably say don't bother. No problem guys i'd been stuck on custom firmware and managed to update via kies using SpoofFw and saved the file as I knew people had been looking for it for ages including me lol.
I have just bought a used O2 I9100P but when I connect with kies I get:
"your device does not support software upgrading via kies"
Anyone else had this problem?
My device is identified on Kies as... PDA:KJ4 PHONE:KI3 CSC:KJ2 (XXX)
On device info:
PDA : I9100PXXKJ4
PHONE : I9100PXXKI3
CSC : I9100PO2UKJ2
Further to this when I enter *2767*4387264636#
I get:
SELLOUT SMS
[1]Sellout SMS: OFF
[2]PCode:Not Active
[3]Moderod
I also have noticed the imei on about phone does not match the sticker inside the phone.
The phone seems to not be rooted. I have no experience with rooting and flashing.
Any help with getting this phone back to stock GB or ICS and the correct IMEI would be greatly appreciated.
If I flash the Rom you have uploaded above using Odin will my Phone be back to "normal" and work as it should on Kies?

I updated to the german firmware using the odin method described in another thread and it worked great, didnt trip the counter or change the device status. Data and apps were intact. all and all I dont see any reason to not do it.
if you want the canadian release then you can simply install it over top the german one once it becomes available but I doubt that there will be much difference.
You might have to WIPE tho, since the German and Canadian ROMs have different CSCs.
Someone please confirm.

Using ROM's meant for other regions isn't an issue and a good way to get the lastest fixes and updated versions of s/w like S Note. The only reason folks in the U.S. had challenges was because they were using ROMs (N8010) not meant for their h/w (N8013). There's a N8010 4.1.2 ROM that just came out. You should be able to use it with no issues. When the Canadian JB ROM is released just install it (via Odin) over the German ROM and you'll be back to where you would have been anyway while being able to use JB in the mean time.
Here's the newest 4.1.2 N8010 JB ROM...
http://hotfile.com/dl/190513084/ece...GT-N8010-DBT-N8010XXUCMA5-1357980235.zip.html
Here's how to install it using Odin...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048213
Another thing Canadian users should be aware before updating is that, there is NO Official 4.0.4 Stock ROM to fall back to. So if you ever need to send the unit back to the shop (before a Canadian ROM arrives online), you're SOL.
This is on top of whatever issues flashing a ROM with a different CSC might cause.
I have the German rom on my Canadian note as far as I can tell there are absolutely 0 issues with having a different CSC. Although it's true that there is no official 4.04 I'm not very convinced that would be a problem in the event of a return I doubt any of the retailers in Canada would know enough to even check what firmware you have installed.
I can confirm that you do not have to wipe data your system status remains official.
Frankly I'm not even sure that installing an official rom would void the warranty even if it is from another region assuming of course you are installing an 8010 ROM on an 8010 device

No. The only file that's being updated via Odin is the PDA/MD5 file which doesn't affect user settings, apps, or what's stored on the device. Occasionally you'll see a widget break or disappear off the home screen because it’s been superseded by one with newer functionality. That's the only casualty I've experienced in bouncing between ROMs from different regions. You'll also see regionally specific things pop-up. The Italian N8000 ROM had a pasta eating game pre-installed on it. Some things don't work because of regional exclusions like the EU Video Hub knows when it's being used on a non-EU device. Those you can just disable in Application Manager.

N910T firmware on N910w8

Hi All
excuse my ignorance but is it possible to flash n910T stock firmware
on n910w8 as both are snapdragon LTE varients?
So in other words I want to go from ANJ3 stock firmware to ANJ7 stock firmware..
My Note 4 is rooted with cwm recovery and I understand that i'll loose the root and
cwm recovery if I flash the stock firmware and I am totally fine with that.
Please let me know, Much appreciated!
Cheers
Anyone?
I'd hold off for now until development shows a bit more and people understand it a bit better. On the Note 3 for example you could flash any of the SNAPDRAGON N9005 ROMS on any of the devices, only difference was you had to install the kernel for your device.
EXAMPLE : Flash an N900T ROM onto your W8 would be OK but you'd have to flash the W8 kernel to get it to boot and work (wifi/signal etc).
EDIT: Just re-read, Stock isn't possible via ODIN as it changes the system and boot partitions are different, however with Custom ROMS my explanation is OK

Thanks for your detailed reply bud,
I guess i'll have to wait like you suggested. Only reason I wanted to switch firmware is because I find note 4 very laggy with the Canadian (n910w8) firmware. I know it's not my device because I've played with 3-4 different note4s and they are all the same. I've also gotten rid of most of the bloatware. Had a T-mobile note 3 prior to this and that was blazing fast with stock rom (bloatware disabled not removed). Not sure what the deal is with Note4s, i truly hope a future firmware update will fix the lag.
Cheers

Yeah but when? I am infuriated and frustrated with my Note 4. I experience lag and complete sh*t wifi performance. I feel like I've been ripped off for buying this crap that isn't even throughly tested before shipping.
Samsung announces 9.56 Billion Dollars $9,560,000,000 profit in 2013 and yet they can't make a f***king stable phone to ship. Absolutely pathetic. At least Apple patches and pushes iOS fixes literally within a week. I don't expect to see an update to the SM-N910W8 for weeks if not months from now. On the Note 3 they were few and far between.
What a waste of money (and no I can't return it store policy used over 30 minutes of talk / 50 MB of data yeah yeah canadian carriers are rape and they get away with it so don't go down that road).

Cheers

Glad you confirmed that all the devices in the store are also affected. Its rarely a hardware issue despite what people say "Return it and the new one didn't have it" more or less those people just aren't perceptive enough and believe what they want.
I was wondering, I would love to switch to Sprint or tmobile but I don't get 4g coverage were I live, is there a way to make a tmobile or Sprint note 4 get 4g lte from Verizon's towers, would it be possable to flash a different radio would that work. Thanks
