Kies just added to the Verizon Fascinate software download page on Samsung's website

Samsung's Kies update software which was used to distribute Froyo for Telus Fascinate devices has been added to the Verizon Fascinate's download support page today.

Follow the link and click software.
Perhaps 2.2 has been held up by problems with the OTA infrastructure? Hopefully this means Froyo will soon be available for manual update while they get the OTA situation figured out.

Won't speculate on what update it COULD be, but I had two Verizon CsR tell me today that a maintenance ota was starting to roll out tonight at between 12 and 1am EST... No one in tech support new anything though. Maybe dj05 but learned from the forums to not believe it till I see update available on my phone....

Does Kies get installed on the pc or phone?

It doesn't seem to work with the Fascinate. I just tried to sync and it said "Please turn your phone to Kies mode" which the Fascinate does not have. If anything, they're prepping for a software update to enable it to be recognized.
I've also done some digging and saw that this has popped up before with the Fascinate.

It gets installed on your PC.
I installed it, the v1.3.550.0 driver, and connected my Fascinate to my PC but nada. It just says "Please connect your mobile phone"

Yes in theory it would be downloaded and installed on your computer...
Just for fun i downloaded the Kies file from samsung to try it out...
and so far it does not work...
so I am guessing if you have rooted your phone Kies will not recognize your phone...
oh well... more interested in getting 2.2 on my phone than Kies
So unless i want to unroot my phone... i will be waiting for a while
That's right... when Europe got their 2.2 update I looked for the Kies mode on my phone.... and never found it...

Just fyi, my phone is not rooted and also not recognized. I'm thinking it's this "Kies mode" that we don't seem to have on the SCH-i500.

The Verizon fascinate does not have a kies mode.

Kies is not meant for CDMA devices, and flashing anything with it will almost certain result in a Fascinating new paperweight...

Actually, thats what I used to install the drivers for the galaxy tab for VZW. So if nothing else, its got the drivers on it.

Kind of wierd that the samsung showcase has a kies setting. I downloaded the kies mini program and it recognizes my phone. It however says my phone is an unregistered device.

The link says "SAMSUNG Kies mini,PC Sync (Software) (ver.1.0)".
Wouldn't that just be the software to sync your phone with PC for things like contacts, calendar, pictures etc? My Eris had HTC software that did that.
Just sayin', from the link title, I don't think it would do anymore than that.

Kies was providing downloadable Froyo updates for Telus customers in Canada.

Guess it's on its way. I'm wondering how the update will roll out to Wifi only versions or the tablets that aren't currently using a carrier.

Today i got a message thru Kies that i could update my firmware to gingerbread (although the message gave a series of numbers and letters). I tried to update my Tab, but after downloading, the installation of the new firmware failed. Could that be because i have my Tab rooted? How do I solve this problem. Your help will be much appriciated.

i think you should go to samfirmware and flash your old rom then maybe u can update
or if u've already ur stock rom and u just root it . u just do hard reset factory , then am sure u can update

Agreed. Let us know if you have any more issues.

Thanks for your quick help. I will do a hard reset as i have stock rom witch i have rooted in order to make backups, use droidwall and Samba. Titanium backup can prove its use now :-D

Hopefully, Samsung will push it over WiFi... If not, the good people of XDA will inevitably provide a ROM on here. You will either get it in a timely manner or have to hold your balls and ROM it (if you haven't done it before). Even if you have, it can sometimes be a scary procedure.
Short answer... Yes. Long answer... Above.

hmm any word on how far the update is? is it still only italy that got it?
Dont really wanna use odin to update our 120 Galaxy tabs (or the 300 that we are getting in ~1 month time).

The only qualm I have is loosing the phone function of the tab if we ever get a honeycomb update. I hope samsung provides an app for that.

I use sipgate with the sipdroid app to push calls over VOIP. Works well enough for me. Can send and receive calls. I am only on WiFi so I imagine, it'd work that much better over the 3G network.
As far as a possible release date? No idea... Their words are that they'll start mid-May through Kies in Europe and it'll feather out. Since Sprint versions don't work with Kies, it may up to Sprint to push the updates here (which may take a long while) or if Samsung is really aggressive, maybe we'll see it through them.
Since Kies is the main avenue of pushing it, I wouldn't anticipate it soon. May be worth following the Honeycomb ROM (DONATE TO THIS CAUSE) and taking the time to flash it. Then brag that you have cheap Honeycomb Galaxy Tabs for sale in your store.

3.2 Update in Canada

Any one in Canada received the 3.2 update from Samsung or has it not been released here yet?

Yes, I have, I'm in Gatineau Quebec and it was there last week and again yesterday when I plug into Kies even if I'm on Task 6.1.

what firmware is the update? Android HC 3.2, but what firmware code specifically?
did you do the update or stay with Task?
Kies will not connect for me regardless of what I do -- I have given up on it and will flash using Odin and download using CheckFus or an uploaded firmware and so it would be nice to know what designation is being presented by Kies.

official response from Samsung Canada is that it has not bee released here yet and the 3 different CSR's I have spoken to do not know why it has not been released and when it will be.
Wonder if I use Tunnelbear switched to US and then connect Kies if it will pull the update from Samsung US?

In case it is not clear in my sig, my tab is stock non-rooted

Im on Task 6.1. I bought it new in the box from a gent from Ottawa and I could'nt tell you where its from as I installed a custom rom first thing when I got home. But all my info and registration including Kies points to Canada. I just assumed that like my Asus Transformer OTA were location based not firmware based. Sorry if this misled anyone.

Unfortunately Tunnel Bear did help get the update.

This is what I did, I rooted my tab, then installed the rom from post #115 of this :

I also used the pit file on post #121 of the same thread
using odin. When I plugged in with Kies, it said an update was available.

Granted I purchased my dad's tab in the states, I was able to get the ota for it in Ontario two days ago. His is stock.

Just checked the box its model GTP7510UWR it had software version XXKG6. Inside everything was bilingual so it looks like it was a canadian model, however depending on the rom I had on it, kies may had seen it as a US model. Since I'm on Task 6.1 I don't get the update.

I'm also on a stock tab 10.1 in Ontario and haven't been able to get an update via kies or OTA. Just keep getting the "no update available" message when I check.

I'm following Samsung on twitter, who have said they will tweet when its released. I'd love to know there excuse for not releasing it yet, they'll probably claim the market is too small and therefore the distribution costs are too high......the usual bull**** we get up her for getting screwed over.

Is there something vastly different between the Canadian version and the US version? If not, I don't see why we should wait around until they release it in Canada...

I just flased the US KMM onto my Canadian version. No issues whatsoever and now I should get any future US updates instead of being stuck in the cold waiting for new Canadian versions.

15 mb firmware update today. Whats new?

Just used manual update in my german note and had a 15 mb firmware. Doesn't break root. Any word whats new? Still at 2.3.6.

Yep, same here ... Mine's an unbranded, unlocked UK note (XEU) and I'm getting nothing through Kies or manual update on the phone. Still on KKA.

I'm in the UK and got the OTA update yesterday. I'm running a German unlocked Note from Expansys UK. Cant see any differences though tbh. :/

I am in the UK and got the update on day one via kies.bought phone from Amazon.de

The update is only for german Notes. You can get it by manually download it and flash it. Did it myself yesterday.

I'm sure you were joking but this actually does raise a point that people should take into consideration:
If the phone is bought from the UK but the firmware is German, then it will get German upgrades. If it's bought from amazon.de and has Chinese firmware then it will only get Asian upgrades.
It doesn't matter where you buy the phone from, it matters what country the firmware is directed at. I also own a UK note which has BRI as the sales code and I don't have any update even though I live in Finland.

[Q] Differentiate between US and CAN WiFi Tabs?

So I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 I bought here at best buy in canada a while ago and threw some custom rom's on it right away. Then in prep for the annoucement yesterday I followed Overcome's method to get back to stock. My question though is am I on stock US tab now? Or how do you differentiate between the two? Is it just tied to the Samsung Account you need to update your device?
If there is a difference in versions, how can I find a stock Canadian ROM? I have searched but came up empty handed.

Think they have some added features we dont but ..
My sig link has everything Canadian u need ! WIFI only ....

Works like a charm. NOTE: You need to be rooted for this to work. I tried going from the US stock unrooted 3.2 and it kept crapping out on the restore of the system. Rooted the US stock and tried it again and works great! Hope this helps someone.

So if you are in Canada and had a US rom on your tab and flashed the Canadian rom and successfully upped your tab to the Cancadian ICS then technically anyone here in the States should be able to do the same thing and have ICS and avoid the wait.

If it would be only that simple... Methinks the serial/type number (and IMEI if applicable) will also come into play as this is transmitted back to the OTA server (at least, that is what I heard).
So, you could try when the 'got it' messages start flying about, but my guess is that it will not work.

Hey im the same boat as the other fella i have a Canadian tablet with a us rom after i tried out s ome other roms and wanna go back to canuck so i can get ics.. but everytime i try your rom my clockwork mod doesn't detect it.. am i doing something wrong? Am i using the wrong clockwork? I import and put it in the backup file of clockwork mod and try the back up restore but nothing even when i try to direst it by pick from zip file it doesn't detect the rom.. please help!!

I don't think there are any physical differences between wifi tabs are there? Its only what software that gets installed on them. Like how the US version has access to music in the play store but us Canadians don't.
I know with my Tab 10.1 3g internally its identical to the US. I use a T-mobile SIM with it and it works great when traveling to the US. But the back on my Telus unit has the pebble blue back on it and the T-Mobile reps were loving it because their Tabs all came with white backs.

Right on the dot. Hardware (except for colour) is same, software just a smidgen different, but there are no running fights between Apple and Samsung here in Canada. We are not important enough as a market.

I just bought a stock Canadian 7510 from a friend and did a factory reset on stock recovery....tried OTA and there still isn't an ICS update for this machine. I thought I would hold out but it's just not worth the wait when there are so many smooth and stable custom options. CM10 and AOSP have spoiled me...the 2nd camera would just be icing on the Jellybean cake.

Older post must not be being read.. i did manage to get ics on my tablet by going to Samfirmware..and installing the us one.. but i really would like to get the canadian one on here if someone could help me out!!

Same here, none of my friends' Canadian P7510 tablets (some US ones did get the update, while in Canada) have seen any movement, neither OTA nor Kies... Seems we will have to wait "because we are too friendly"...
Ah well, even though it is not fun, it is what it is. Is CM10 now with fully functional cameras for the P7510? Methinks that will be the way to go anyhoo...
Still doing my twice-daily checks on ICS, which keeps me off the street. What better way to spend time in anticipation of something that may be coming later in the fall...
