[Q] About DosBox Turbo - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

My questions
-Will DosBox work on our wonderful device? I want to play some games like the early Elder Scrolls games.
-If it does, will simple games be smooth or rough as sandpaper?
-Does the DosBox work smoothly on our device?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I'm the author of DosBox Turbo, so I'll try my best to answer your questions. Yes, DosBox Turbo will work fine on your device, and while the Samsing GT-S5360 is a great device overall, it does have the following limitations:
* An ARMv6 (slow) based CPU with no Floating Point
* Only 384 MB of RAM.
While, DosBox Turbo is highly optimized (even for older ARMv6 processors), your best performance will be with an ARMv7 CPU. With a standard single core ARMv7 processor (ie. Cortex A8), you can get around a [email protected] speed.
Having said that, with your slower CPU you can probably expect equivalent to around IBM 386SX (16-25Mhz) speed on your device. Its really hard for me to give you an exact speed, because it varies depending upon the game and many other factors. There are a few tweaks you can do to increase the speed, such as disabling screen scaling, reducing the Audio Frequency and other things, which will probably bump you up a few Mhz. So Elder Scrolls Arena *might* be playable on your phone, though the only way you can be sure is to try it out. If after purchasing DosBox Turbo, and you are not happy with it or just cant get it working on your phone, just shoot me an e-mail and I'd be happy to issue you a refund.
Cheers,
Gene

Woah! The app Dev! xD How do you actually get to know that someone has posted a thread about your app? Are you PM'd by our Mod or something? Cuz this amazes me. xP

Thanks for clarification
@raolemo
An app dev wants his users to be able to use the app he created without problems, so he probably searches questions, like mine

i would like to know the answer too!!

One day maybe DOS Fallout will be playable.

No matter what i do or how i do it i cant seem to cyange my cycles from 5000. I set it at 1000 and as soon as i hit back it shows "dosbox cycles:5000". This happens whether i do it within the program or if i set it manually after enabling manual . Ive even set ctrp and the f11 and F12 keys and no matter what i do it always says cycles:5000. What the actual...?

Is there any way how to get Wizard´s processor overclocked?

I think...if someone provide application to get OMAP working frequency around 300MHz, then it could really speed up whole MDA and still the battery will be good enough to provide power for 3-5hours of work :?:
It can resolve many speed issues and convince many people to use Wizard. So, any ideas, programs...?
(I´am not sure if that is possible for this type of processor...just asking a dumb question)

Nothing yet that I know of... closest app. that should be out soon in the wild is PocketHackMaster for OMAP... see this post from the author of the software:

Immier from Immierisoft (XCPUScaler) is also looking into this. Hopefully, we'll see something from XCPUScaler that overclocks the OMAP850 soon. I'd sure like to see a performance boost on the PDA side of things...
I would like to see an app that would boost for x number of seconds when a program is executed. I don't need to drain the battery after the app is loaded. Perhaps also after a read command is issued, too.
Just my non-programmer thoughts.
Both PHM and XCPUScaler will allow you to push the processor based on laod, so you get more power when you need it, and a lower processor speed when the processor is idle.
Both need to be updated to support the OMAP850, however. We're waiting for that to happen...
Thanks for the info, Chris. I'm a bit new to these devices & thus don't know what all can do what. You just saved me some research!
Thank you all for your responses, I´m more happy now, when I know that PHM will fully support OMAP in next version (which will be available in half month)

Good G-2 Chris - thanks! Now, which will be first out I wonder???.....
the omap definitely can be overclocked. we are just wiaitng for immer or anton.
an overclocker app already exists for omap for plam devices (pah pah), which shows it works:
www.clievideo.com
omap information (just FYI):
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...00&path=templatedata/cm/product/data/omap_850
yet nothing of nothing
Am waiting for over clocking too. i hade to write something so i am posted by email with any further development of the softwares listed.
all i can say is i hope theres no over heating and unstableness.
am sure we should have something soon for cristmas. if not then january sales.
Sorry all: just 'subscribing' to this thread too. Sorry
guys, whilst we are 'twiddling our thumbs' perhaps we could report any apps we particularly want to see improved. I have found all the games I install (even 3d games like Anthelion 2 from pdamill and star wars racer)and TCPMP and hacking tools seem to run fine. The only piece of software that frustrates me is SKYPE low_cpu. Although I hear that the skype team are working on it.
Therefore for me, this is more of a toy then a necessity!
Are there any news regarding overclocking the Wizard?

Best ROM for SNESOID / EMulation

I know this is asking for opinions on what roms are the best... however, I have used several different ones, be it 1.5 / 1.6 or even 2.0+ .. I'm wanting to find out if there are any other big emulator gamers (for SNES / NES / GBA) that have found something that has the basics for the phone but primarily focus on the 3D/2D graphics of the phone.
Currently im using the CE 1.2 update (Eclair 2.0) and I'm still noticing a few hitches every now and then and sound lag when playing Snesoid (paid version).
Thanks for any info if possible.
Curse my love for SNES and Chrono Trigger =/
I'm using CM4.2.15 and it's fine. Couple of little glitches as it starts but it's fine after that.
Graphics performance is all but irrelevant to a SNES emulator.. it depends on CPU power. Just steer clear of Eclair roms until they have fully functional GL drivers.
JIT might help? Link in my sig for how to enable JIT.
Thanks for the replies, I'll try and give JIT a go... I hear JIT rocks the box for CE 1.2 ...
However, I'm a little hesitant to use it since I haven't done enough research on all what it can do.
I'll give JIT a go the next day work is slow
SuperD for me, I have snesoid, gameboid & gensoid all all three run like a charm.
Just wish I could kick this damn annoying Donkey Kong addiction I have!

JIT is reversible, so don't worry about having to reflash and whatnot.
I have JIT enabled now, I'm not noticing any improvement on the SNESoid itself, though the phone does respond faster.
I may try out Super D and see if the smoothness will work with the ROM... it feels like the phone is hitting a hardware limit not necessarily software enforced.
When there are several things going on in the screen, ie a lot of moving pixels / characters, it hitches up pretty bad and the sound itself goes crazy / lags.
Will the 10mb ram hack decrease the performance of SNESOID / Emulators? I know this might be a basic question but I'm interested to know..
It won't slow down your experience. It might even enhance it a little bit.

Can my leo be overclocked?

Im new to winmo can any one tell me if its possible to set my cpu scale..
Ive been studyin android, so this is a whole diffr ball game for me.
also id like to know what the best turn by turn navi on winmo
I am pretty sure it can be overclocked and underclocked. I have not spent any time looking at this but hopefully there is, or will be, an application available for this purpose. I'd love to actually scale the CPU down for most use then speed it back up to normal when I need it...like a profile activated type of thing, or maybe according to which applications I am using on the phone. There is something like this for Android and I have it on my Nexus One.

Exact, already drains more than enough
To answer the question, no, there's no overclocking app that works on the HD2.
Really the answer is
"Yes, write an app and overclock it!"
....but I recommend not to do this, the HTC HD2 gets hot at 1GHz when doing intensive things, like executing flash content and remember that we aren't in the summer when the external temperature reaches over 37°C.
If it gets hot with an external temperature of 14°C, imagine at 37°C.
My PhenomX4 for example is overclocked (with overvoltage) from 2.5GHz (stock) to 3.4GHz (OC) and I remember that in the summer I had to put it at 2.8GHz because it got too much hot!
Winter: 32°C(idle) - 54°C (full load)
Summer: 53-55°C (idle). I didn't want to try at full load. lol
Anyway, remember that a PC CPU has got a huge cooler on it, while the SnapDragon hasn't got it and there isn't too much heat dissipation. Remember then that the SnapDragon is a mobile CPU that is supposed to work at a low temperature (PC CPUs are supposed to work at high temps) and it is supposed to NOT reach 45-50°C, so beware!
as far as the gps question goes... i use ALK's CoPilot 8. It's only $30 and is a full featured gps app. You get free live local search, free map updates and more. If you want live traffic info it's only $20 a year.

Telenav works great for me. I use for free. If you know some one that has an unlimited sprint account u can log in using there phone number and the pw is the last 4 of of the number.
I'm be more interested in undervolting and underclocking it. The standard voltage is what is needed for ALL the processor chips to work at the speed, however most can use less than that voltage and still do the same speed and be stable.
I undervoltage my laptops and it makes them run cooler and get better battery life.

we want it to actually run at 1ghz not 890 whatever. thats the main thing about the HD2 and Nexus. I waited for this to come out so i can get it mod it and run it at its full potential.
I have my LEO in the mail now or ordered any way. cant wait to get it. I want to see win 6.5 but im a bigger fan of android. I have modded all of my phones and Im a big HTC fan. Cant wait to see what this brings.
If your worried about battery life get an extended battery. As for heat, hey small price to pay for speed increases. Unfortunately until someone actually writes an app that can cpu scale, nothing can be assumed.

it already scales to 1ghz when it needs to. It can scale quicker than the OS can start opening programs, so say it is idling at 700, you click to start a program, it is already doing 1ghz by the time you release your finger from teh link.
It would be nice to push it over 1ghz, say 1.3-1.5ghz? Just a nice thought...

Tegra Overclock App - Play Store

Not my app, but I seen this over on the N7 forums and thought I might share. I haven't personally tried it but seems pretty cool. It might be able to get a few more FPS out of some of the stuff the Ouya is doing.
Tegra OverClock
I don't know how you'd get it installed on the Ouya without having to backup and restore the APK by sideloading.
It seems it was just released today.
It appears to use drm tied to Google framework.

Well after doing some research it looks like (Assuming you're rooted with custom ROM, cwm recovery, Google Apps enabled etc.) We can "safely" overclock the GPU.
I used Google translate and found the following Spanish user said, "Tegra overclock (no Tegrak): Default uya the gpu of 200mhz and can come to no problem climbing to 520 (more crashes) and force the 4 cores to stay on. It is quite noticeable in some ways, the vice city to the fullest without almost pulls, n64 emus greatly improved the framerate but less so in the benchmarks. The temperature in my case (I have it out of the box) is no problem. http://www44.zippyshare.com/v/71430637/file.html
ale! to tinker but I take responsibility if it burns! lol"
I'm going to give this a shot. Hope my OUYA doesn't die on me

He was simply quoting a Spanish website regarding Tegra3 GPU clock - this has nothing to do with the O/C app. IF the app is optimized for Ouya, it won't be Spanish only of course.

It is working fine for me on 519r2. If you don't mess with the CPU speed, which there is really no reason to, there shouldn't be any noticeable increase in heat. I just have the GPU set to 520 and the FPS locked at 60. It has definitely made games I considered previously unplayable, playable.

In my case, even with "Set at boot time" enabled, the settings are not sticking. I have to do it every time I power on the box - which becomes a bit tedious. Same goes for not being able to wake the Ouya from the controller.
I checked with No-frills CPU Control to see the CPU % use vs different governors and I found (same as on my N4) that "interactive" seems to be the better one.

Updated adreno drivers?

I do a lot of gaming on my phone and I'm always looking for ways to improve performance and efficiency. I was under the impression that Qualcomm made the adreno drivers upgradeable but I can't seem to find out how.
Also, does anyone know any OOS11 compatible kernels that support gpu overclock? Only one I could find is radioactive that supports 670mhz but I've seen other OOS10 kernels that support higher than that. Thanks a bunch.

What are you playing that it can't run.?
I run emulators, the hardest of which would be the Wii but that runs flawlessly.
Sure there's a PS2 one out there but that's slow because it's not finished..
I'm set to see anything that would require a push from a kernel.
Magisk has upgraded drivers..
If you really must then use radioactive....totally unnecessary but there you go.
Also search for adreno in play store, there's plenty of apps to mod your drivers and such.
I'd be interested to hear what you're actually doing that requires it though.

I definitely don't require it, and you've got it right- there really isn't much you can throw at it that it can't handle, and nothing here is a need per se. I just simply like to have absolute latest and greatest just for sake of having it and that might just be me. As far as things that I have thrown at it that I wouldn't mind a couple more fps, even though at this rate is a bit of a nit-pick; Lineage II Revolution (High pop areas), Genshin impact, Ark, TauCeti, Dolphin emu wii(CODMW3, mostly) games + GC games internal res @ 1080P to be screen cast to my TV. Plus I'm a bit of a benchmark nerd ...because epeen.
Anyways, I appreciate your response and I'm always looking out for your posts as you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable out here :good:
Edit: just realized I mentioned someone named 1080P lol

Exactly. Yes, efficiency is always something I'm looking for as well. There's times, especially when I'm home near the charger that I like to crank things up a bit, but always have to be careful running heavy games on the go. 3d mark wild life stress test benchmark used 10% in 20 mins!! Of course, that's not real-world use, luckily.
