bell galaxy s vibrant. i did the #*#*2663*#*# in the dialer and then updated the touchkey firmware and now both touchkeys dont work. tried flashing back to stock ugkg3 with odin. didnt fix. now the phone has ics milestone 5 on it and they still dont work. luckily the nav bar can be used and customized. how can i reenable the buttons?
Try flashing an older from in Odin. Something 2.2 from bell.

but if flashing back to stock 2.3.3 in odin didnt work why would that? i guess ill try
If not I'd say the buttons are just dead.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
lol why was i able to simply click something that killed my buttons. kinda crappy
Currently I am in your boat as well with those buttons dead, but even though I am on 2.2, my kernel is different (I got other problems, phone won't work with stock kernel), I still can't fix my problem. So, yours might get fixed cause you're on stock on everything, try using 2.2 or lower. It should fix, unlike me.
im not on stock, im on 4.0.4 ice cream sandwhich, aokp milestone 5 rom
you should do the same so u can enable the nav buttons and forget the physical ones. u can have home menu back and multitask on the nav bar, plus the phone runs soooooooooooooooooooooo much smoother, its like i traded an old vibrant for a galaxy nexus
I have this problem before probably a year ago and I fixed it, I think, by first flash the stock 2.2 rom, then after the flash go to that menu again (which caused this trouble) and hit update again.. If it works then flash the 2.3 or better.. This is from my memory from a year or so ago
It is fixable and I got the fix method from this forum.. Forgot exactly which thread since it has been long time.
Good luck!

Buddy that's what I wrote in my post, but showed the only difference I have is that I have to use custom (speedmod kernel) kernel to boot up otherwise my phone won't start. So, when I get back to everything stock, I will for sure try that number thing again on 2.2 to fix it. Thanks.
i will try too and report
Dit it?

Hey guys, I see some of you are bricking or not being able to update.
You can use this to flash to I897UCJH7 OTA.
Use Clockwork recovery to flash it...
Cognition is currently being rebuilt on top of this, deodexed and all that fun stuff.
This flashes the system folder, kernel, and modem.

Let me know how the GPS works for you guys!! I have gotten it to lock in my basement!!
Could you tell us what differences are in this and the JH7 we've had for a while? I assume the GPS is supposed to work better but anything aside from that?

Thanks DG! I've been looking for this.
Thanks so much for this!
Quick question though... if my phone already says it is at JH7 even after a 100% OTA update and had the Update Failed message, could I still flash this with Clockwork and have it function properly?

Tested and it works! thanks!
If I do encounter problem, I'll let you know.
Should I wipe data and clear cache prior to doing this? What are the implications of wiping my previous rom.
I am getting installation aborted from Recovery Mode. Any suggesstions?

Mmm I'm not sure but... mine was stock ( did odin ) before I flashed this.
if a battery pull doesnt get it to work, then I would reflash JF6 with Odin, flash this JH7 OTA with Rom manager.
Im about to try to disable lag fix first, then flash and if it bricks it then ill flash to stock JF6 first.
Thank you DG. I needed the update because for some reason the one click installer thing wouldn't allow OTA updates. But your one click installer is still a huge help when needed.
First, breath, you are not bricked yet. Search in here for odin one click. Follow the instructions. You will most likely need to do method 3 for your download mode. (remove battery, sim, sdcard /replace battery /hil vol+ and vol- while simultaniouslyplugging in the usb cable) Once you get flashed back to stock you can try again.
Sigh after so many tries to update I went back to cognition with leaked jh7. Guess I'll be flashing again once I get off work tomorrow.

The ROM's should work but you need a new kernel that supports the four capacitive buttons vs. the hard button on the international version. You'll lose the capacitive buttons if you use an international kernel. You may want to wait for the devs to play with it a bit - the phone just came out today.
Ya ure right thanxs

I'm anxious to try myself but as suggested, I plan to wait as well.

I believe so, you may want to check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1304
Bumping this thread, wondering if in the past 10 days there is any way to flash a ROM on the phone with the buttons working?
I'd really love to get Touchwiz off/something else on.
Can it be done yet?
EDIT: I'm dumb, nevermind
I'm so glad, I just recieved my Note.
I have bricked it using the ICS Kernel of Angelom (Like so many others).
It's was fixed under waranty and they had to put a new motherboard.
I just turned on my Note to check the firmware and it came with KKA firmware.
But after 1 or 2 minutes it asked me to update the firmware OTA. I did that and now it's on LC1.
All is OK now and I ready to continue flashing.

Well thats great news, what are going to flash? Not a ics right? I am back from midnote ics to gb stock rooted abyss 4.2 lc1 and waiting for the real thing.
Yes, me too.
I will stay in GB LC1 Rooted ontill official ICS comes out.
i been trying custom ics releases for a few days now and they all have issues in common such as overheating, random soft reboots, titanium doesn't work properly on ics, hard to find swype keyboard languages for ics if ur local language is not english ... etc...
I decided to get back to stock rooted gb LA4 till official ics from samsung comes out. I love the new ics but none of the builds are stable enough for daily use yet.
Don't be afraid of the ICS leak. It was not the problem.

Mine was on Samsung for about 15 days.
And yes, I can use any other phone, because when you use a Note for some time, you can't go back to a small screen.
I was just feeling lost without my Note.
But now all is OK, I just miss the RocketRom ICS build. For me it was very very fast and it works ok for a day to day build.

Nothing to say! loooool
Will samsung ask if u exploit/root your device? What happen to your warranty?
I managed to use a jig to put the counter in 0 and then flashed one official kernel.
With this they didn't have any way to check about costume Roms, because the data partitions was corrupted and unfixable.
Just got a call from the Samsung service centre and my Note is back!
Motherboard replacement!
I'm so excited, I'm just trying to work out if I've got any time in lieu available to get into town after work.
Hey guys,
When XXLPY got release i got it and updated my GNote. Yesterday i decided to unroot it. Everything was ok until i kept getting FC in most of the apps (i read it was normal but it started to get really annoying). So i tried to flash XXLPY back - accidentally i flashed a GS2 stock room and my screen went black. I installed XXLPY again (this time the real one) but that didnt fix the problem.
I can get it into Download Mode, i can get calls, listen to music. everything seems to be ok other than the screen.
any ideas.
thanks in advance for the help.

since your downlosd mode is fine i will suggest you revert to gb to clean up your environment, then decide which version to go from there.

You may have flashed bootloaders with the GS2 stock ROM. Find a note ROM that includes note bootloaders and flash that using Odin.

When you say a ROM are you talking STOCK or CUSTOM??? and do you have any idea where i can find one???
thanks a lot for the time m8
I rooted my phone using CWM and flashed TriForceROM a few months ago, and everything was wonderful till about a month or so afterward, and now at random when it's idle it'll crash? I'll go to unlock it, the Menu and Back buttons on the bottom will flash, and then I'll have to wait a few minutes and press the power button (sometimes a couple times) and after vibrating once or twice it'll boot up to the Samsung splash screen.
I managed to do some research and found it might be just because it's rooted, but since the problem didn't start until a good bit after the root I was thinking maybe (hopefully) it's something else? Any ideas on how to fix it?
Any help appreciated ^_^
I will assume you are running KT's kernel because that is a known problem for some people on his kernel.
Reflash Tri force and choose change mods. Choose stock and all will be well.

I might have, I don't think I went in and changed much. I'll do that. Thanks!!
Just checked (remembered you can look at the kernel through settings. D'oh), and it is indeed KT's kernel. Yay for being able to fix it and still have the ROM!
