In order to install roms you have to install magldr and flash the rom.
You need to root your current (I assume stock?) rom only if you're going to go with it.
See the post in my sig for more details.

What's the benefit of flashing any custom ROM? It's not different for WP7 than any other OS.
Unlocking the phone -> you can sideload apps/games
There is no rooting for WP7, there is interop unlock.
Flashing roms -> customize the OS and unlock included (custom ones)

Welcome to the community
Sideloading means installing application/games on the phone, once you have the binaries (XAPs). Similar to installing APK files on Android.
I'm getting you have a Focus Flash i667. Just FYI there is only unlock but no custom rom for Samsung 2nd generation phones, not yet. I initially assumed you have a Samsung Focus i917 since you didn't specify in your first post.
Do not try any stuff on 2nd generation WP7 yet (e.g. roms) unless they're designed for it. For example, flashing a custom i917 ROM on your i667 will brick it.
If it's a bit confusing it's because both phones are Focus, but one is i917 (the original Focus) and the other one is i667 (Flash). There is no dedicated i667 Focus Flash forum...

I have been looking around and have seen that some other phones are having problems with the Rom Manager not listing Roms.... I was wondering if this was an issue with the Glacier as well?
I have Rom Manager Premium, and when I open Rom Manager and click on 'Download Rom', it only shows a listing called 'Extras' and doesn't have any Roms.
I was just curious as to if this is just my phone, or something the Glacier doesn't support right now? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I couldn't find it with the all knowing Search

I'm also having this issue. I upgraded to the Premium Version so that I could just download roms, however, whenever I select the "Download Rom" I only got the " free" listing.
I just tried again, and got an error message that said, " Error occurred while downloading the Developer list." When I hit okay, nothing appeared. Then when I tried to go back in to the menu, it just brought up the "free" option again...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
None of the Roms for the HTC Glacier are official
No official CM
No official Muni
No official Roms...
So all the Roms that would be available if you had another phone in Rom Manager aren't showing up. Just go to the developers page and download the Rom and boot into recovery. And Flash & Make a backup everytime.
I have a Samsung Captivate and have the issue though. . . .
I did know it was at the discretion of the developer, I was just wondering if it were only my phone... now I know it's not thanks for all the replies

Why bother? Devs are NOT obliged to put their roms/mods certain places. You have to keep in mind, you would be hard pressed to find a dev that uses rom manager and clockworkmod recovery, everyone is using 4EXT

I would suggest Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3, it's fast and stable, and looks nice =)
It is also easy to install since it needs baseband .54, which you can get it from the .435 stock firmware directly.

i would have to agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 would be the rom of choice. It is super stable and quite fast too.
You will need to root your phone, and then install xRecovery. Then you can install ROMS from the xRecovery menu.
Root using superoneclick and then copy the xRecovery APK to your phone and install it. Download the ROM files and copy them to your SD card, reboot into xRecovery and follow the ROM installation steps (backup all your stuff on your phone first - i suggest My Backup Root (from the market) - provided you have rooted it already). If you want to try different basebands, i have included a link for them too.
As for doing all this from ubuntu - i think you will need to be running a Windows VM or find another pc that has Windows installed, i tried from Ubuntu myself but it was just easier from a Winblows machine.

I'm also kind of a noob, but I really want to make this stuff work...
I took this thread as a base, I currently have the 2.1 official update on my X10. So far I used the superclick tool and it said it rooted my phone (how can I make sure it worked?)
Then I downloaded the stuff and run the xRecovery app, it said it granted some superuser thing, but then I see nothing else...
Any help appreciated, specially if I skipped some steps maybe?
if you want to check if you are rooted, intall titanium backup and see if the app runs. If it does, then you've got root.
I didnt get what you wanted to ask in the second part of your question though..
I was missing an app from the market
Ok I got it working
So far I'm testing this new stuff...woah, amazing.
Any recommendations of things (ROMs) I should try?
p.s. I got no signal and WiFi won't turn on... I guess this is normal?
@ aR_ChRiS and mrtim123
Second that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 is one of the most complete 2.2 roms. But you'll want to look up post on how to:
- root your phone
- install xRecovery (requires busybox), and how to use it
In case if you "brick" your phone or get stuck in a boot loop, look up for "flashtool".
Hope this helps.

How do you get it to the right setting? and someone told me it drains your battery. is this true?
Yes battery life isn't that great but acceptable for me.
~24 hours under medium usage
~12-15 hours under heavy use
You need to have your focus setting set to infinity to have better audio sync.
To be honest I don't think the camcorder is up to average user's standard, but camera works just fine.
Things I like from this rom are:
- improved performance (very few lags, things run much smoother than stock 2.1 especially when texting)
- android 2.2 apps & features (gmail 2.3, flash, JIT...)
- no random reboots
- the unlock slider does not lag after the screen is off for awhile
Known issues to my knowledge:
- incomplete camcorder
- no live wallpaper
In case you haven't noticed tho, devs here have figured out a way to bypass x10's bootloader. This will enable us to load custom kernels.
All the roms here before the breakthrough are only built on top of the stock 2.1 kernel. That's causing some limitations in developing custom roms (issues such as having a working driver for x10 camera)
So if u can wait for a bit I'm sure there will be better roms (with android 2.3) coming in the next couple months! And Sony has announced there will be official 2.3 upgrade coming possibly during this summer.
However I've been using wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 for over a month now, would really recommend it if ur not that into video recording lol

No, the DHD has a protected system which precludes overwriting the system partition so without S-OFF you can not make any permanent changes.

So basically I'm screwed? Since I need to downgrade to root, and to backup you need to have root >.< but when you downgrade you lose everything xD
I will try it tonight ._.
If you want to back up the new GB OTA ROM then yes but if you just want to back up your apps then No, you don't need root.
Titanium works with root but doesn't need it. Also, if you ticked to let Google keep a backup then your apps will be re-downloaded when you next perform a wipe.

Using Windoze is great....
One word for you: Linux.
At the risk of high jacking this thread, have you installed HTC Sync? Can you connect to HTC Sync? If not, try another USB port (if using front port use back ports or vice-versa). If none work uninstall HTC Sync and reinstall it after rebooting PC.
If that works when you are in adb (making sure USB Debugging is on) try
Code:
adb devices
Do you get a result?

I recently got an HD2 phone that is running a rom from DFT and it seems to be horrible. phone is constantly freezing and having to be reset, im always dropping service, cant sent MMS messages, Internet is overly slow and my touch doesnt want to work nor does the phone like to go into landscape mode.
with that being said, what is the best rom for me to install and will someone please help me with a sort of step by step how to for noobs?
thank you in advance
I'm using typhoon cyanogen 7. Very stable, fast, great build. If your current build is flashed via dft, all you need is to flash clockwork to install android zip from sd card.

read this guide thoroughly and you will be on your way. By the sounds of it, you can go to step 3.
Also, read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905841 for anything that you may require.

Yup, reading and learning does usually help.
Do you really need to post smart ass remarks?

funny thing is me reading isnt helping any, due to the fact idk what ANY of these means anyways, id just like to get my phone running better then it is now. I found the rom i want to install though
if the rom has magldr/clk in the name, put the rom zip on your sd card. Find the clockwork mod download and flash it using usb flasher mode in magldr, you can then go to ad recovery in magldr, install zip from sd card, let it install and you should be good.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
someone on the car forums im on suggested this for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
would the steps be the same?
That is a build meant to run from the sd card. If magldr is already flashed you should look into nand roms. The installation of the sd rom is very different than the nand rom.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
i hate using sd roms, they are so damn slow..
well.. upgrading hd2 to android from windows mobile is pretty much easy..
1) flash hspl to version 2.08
2) flash radio to >2.15
3) install magldr
4) install clockworkmode recovery
5) install rom
6) enjoy
if you wanna try another rom, just do steps 5 through 6 and 6 again
maybe a few wipe data/cache/dalvik when you get stuck..
either way.. dont rush installing new builds.. first you snoop around this forum for people reporting bugs and stuff that don't work.. and wait for a stable release
btw, i use boyppc v26 build myself.. a bit buggy, but - i like to try out new systems as they appear..
6 in hd2 on android
Flashing radio is optional. I use the 2.10. radio and all is well. I tried 2.15 and everything was extremely slow, data drops, no market downloads, the whole deal was very frustrating. Tried 2.12 and things were fine but it seems that 2.10 is one of the more stable radios that I have used.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
see now the radio thing i dont understand. i also dont know if i have clockwork recovery mode on mine, is there a way to check? <-- dumb question prolly.
i guess what i want is for my phone as close to normal as possible, because rite now im ready to ditch this phone for something that is unrooted. half the time i cant even use it, sending texts is near impossible on the thing, and im constantly dropping calls and service.
since i cant seem to wrap my head around what rom would be good for solving these problems for a noob, could one of you give me the link to what you feel would fulfill my wants?
thanks for takin the time to help
Read this. Don't scam, skim or survey. Just read as in you're taking a college exam.

Well then I dont really know what to suggest.
The only way you are going to be able to do any of this is if you read and learn. There is pretty staright forward guides ouy there, If you can follow them then you should probably just sell the HD2 and get a Desire HD or an iPhone.
If you think you need to post those type of comments here, maybe you should look at other areas of your life because it's obvious you are very angry/weak.

dont disagree with u, TheATHEiST often sounds like an angry little man (no offence intended), but the point being made is still valid,
if someone is having trouble follwing the simple guides provided then they really shouldnt be messing with their phone till they've brushed up a bit on their reading & comprehension skills.

Like what cedesmith says in CLK installation, if you are if you need to install it, you should probably not.
Being a noobie is not an excuse nor giving an alibi that you can't understand. If so, get a nokia 3310 instead.

We've gotten alot of response from the Desire community so thank you all for your help. At this time we do not need any more testers for the desire. BootManager should be updated with support for the Htc Desire in the next few days. The app currently won't support rom's that use apps2sd and data2sd but our team is working on getting support for those as well. Thanks.
Hey guys my team has developed an app called bootmanager which went into the market today. The app let's you install rom's to your sdcard and boot between them. I had originally done an inc only version here that used your recovery for installing rom's. The new app installs the rom's directly through the app and then let's you boot between them. Anyway on to the point of this post...i'm looking for 1 or 2 beta testers to add support for the desire. You'll need a little knowledge of adb, root of course, and just a little bit of patience. So far has worked pretty well on every htc device wev'e tried so I'm confident we can add support for the desire as well. You can get a little more info about the app from the link in my sig or looking at it in the market. If your interested pm me so I can get the info needed for the desire(.i.e partition sizes and a few other things that i'll tell you how to find in adb) and I'll send the apk for you to try. Thanks for your help....
Very interesting app! Would hboot have to be compatible (ie right size) with all the installed roms or as they are installed to SD does it not matter?

by hboot your refferring to the bootloader? This doesn't change the bootloader. It makes img's on your sdcard which hold your system/data/cache files for the rom, then it edits the boot.img for that rom to point to those img's when booting. Then the app flashes the boot.img for the rom you want to boot too.
I would be very interested in trying this out as I pretty much change my ROM on a daily to weekly basis haha, I just can't stop! This would be a good way to nurture my need for all the ROMs I switch between all of the time.
Would this app work on a non rooted phone? I mean having the stock ROM in the phone and a rooted one on the SDcard. But I guess it wouln't...

No you need an unlocked bootloader to switch the boot.img. And root to do a number of other things involved in setting up the rom.

Once you go MIUI you don't go back I can't bring myself to use anything else LOL!
Oh I tried MIUI-XJ, it's nice to know that you're happy with it ^^ I used it for about three to four days and felt that I was using an iPhone more so than an Android and I prefer the feel/look of Android devices... I loved being able to theme it so easily, though. I like the transparency mods in NeoPhyte ROMs and bits and pieces of many others... I should just figure out how to make my own.
I hope that you got my response, Conap! My sent items folder said I hadn't sent anything but I am most positive that I did so I will wait to hear back from you =D.
Yeah, sure I could help with the testing... Do you want somebody with that knows ADB etc..?
got Miui XJ on phone rom and tried to boot CM7.
working without problems so far!
thank you. gonna look into this now
Should we run the update after the rom has been installed, so it updates the boot.img ? Haven't tried running the update.zip directly from bootmanager yet, but works fine from recovery.
Installed MIUI-108050 on my HTC Desire (stock boot/S-ON)
looks fantastic....im new to android and my desire but i am currently using neo's reflex s rom and i love it...i really want to try MIUI but i love reflex!
Gonna sticky this thread, keep up the hard work
i tried to install cm7 on rom slot1 but it says no rom installed when i tried to boot it.. on htc desire (running custom official gingerbread).. any idea?
