The average charging time is 3.5 hours from 0 to 100%. What do you expect? Its a freaking tablet and not a phone. My skyrocket takes about the same time 3.5 hours from 0 to 100.

[REQ] SpeedUp charging process

Hi people... i think that Samsung has got a little of troubles of making batteries and charging philosophies.
I has got two devices that are the last technology from samsung, the nexus s and the galaxy s2 right now.
The nexus s has got a very strange trouble (until now not fixed) that battery never reach full 100% state in charging. And much very very long charging time.
The Galaxy S2 reach 100% but takes too much time to charge. It's possibile that never one has think about modifying this?
Where we can start to mod this ? Inside the kernel? Inside bootloader?
I think it's not only a mine trouble
i think its the battery charger not the phone, which makes it so slow

anybody know a program or a system commands that can show how much amp is going to battery?

Mine finishes very quickly. about 1-2 hours when it's at 25 percent. And you cant fix charging. Remember that it is a big battery.
Ever tried using an adaptor for a device that has a lower rating than the adaptor? Ever heard that pop and the smell that follows?
Learn to be patient. Last thing you need is for the battery to blow up and destroy your phone.
protip: turn off your phone while you're charging with AC and not USB.
it could be your USB (and by extension, your PC) is not providing enough power to the USB ports. It happens.
My phone charges in 4 hours with AC when the phone is off. 5 when on.
6 hours on USB, phone off. 8 phone on.
It can be "fixed" in the kernel.
Samsung made it charge slower so that it charges better.
Faster charging = more heat = more dissipation, and potentially other problems.
Even though its a safety feature, its ridiculously slow. Phones takes AGES for a full charge.
these new phone are strange
my old i8910 HD charges full in like 30 min
and stays without a charge for 3+ days
Mine charges slower than htc but no too slow.. I'd say 2.5 hours full charge

too much slowly. I prefer changing battery every 2 years but have a more speedy charging, specially when i'm in middle of day (usually i charge it in the night, but sometimes can't last the entire day)

Do you guys not get more than 3-4 hours of sleep?
Do you guys exhaust the battery to the point where the phone turns itself off before plugging it in?
Can you not plug your phone in before you go to bed?
I always plug my phone in before I go to bed (usually with 10-20% remaining) and I don't remember a time where I wake up in the morning and the phone isn't 100%.
I'm not trying to be cynical...just curious what other people's routines are when 3-4 hours to charge a phone becomes an issue.
A complaint like this wouldn't even cross my mind.
I need a faster charge too. Not because I'm impatient but because the phone can use more current then it can charge, especially during car navigation.

Well, the issue here is obvioisly not when sleeping (and yes I slept 3 hrs last noght and got a full charge...bit when on car or @ work, lunch time etc...those little precious weird moments u get in a daily basis when u arent using ur phone and got a charger at hand....maybe it would be possible to make an app which would allow toggling fast charging or slow charging, that way we could have both....fast ( on the run) and slow (night) modes....that would be really nice......but wait....winmo had this remember?

[Q] Nexus 7 charges randomly and isn't consistent

Hi guys, hope your well.
Been having this problem for the past month and its killing me since I use the Nexus 7 as an ebook tablet to study. For some reason it now charges when it feels like it. Times when i connect to charge on a wall outlet, it does absolutely nothing. I tried other wall outlets, I tried connecting to the pc and it wont detect it as a drive either. Some days it will decide to charge, other days it wont. I tested the battery on a android app to check its life, and it stated that its healthy.
At one point I had to remove the entire back cover for it to catch a charge. I even tried the "bootloader and restart" tutorial, no good. The Audio jack works perfectly fine as well, never had any issues with that.
Its really weird and I would like to fix this as soon as possible. Really appreciate your help guys. Please advise

USB fast charge, how to enable?

Im not sure if anyone would be familiar with this, but on my samsung galaxy nexus there was an option that was universal on all kernels called "USB fast charge"
which basically all it did was cancel out the support of file transfer while connected through USB, but in return gave much higher charging speeds through USB. With it enabled my galaxy nexus would charge almost 4x faster.
Is there an option for this on the note 3? I have not rooted yet, but will in the next few days. I understand its up to the kernel dev's and whatnot to implement it in, but is this feature available on the note 3?
We can't flash kernels

lol, welp........after a few minutes googling...
bootloader locked....
oh well, i guess it will be nice not flashing stuff everyday compared to my nexus.

Bootloader Locked, can't flash Kernels, but the Note3 charges pretty damn fast using the Stock Cable plugged into an A/C outlet.
Total Segue here, but as a Brother to two gay siblings and an Uncle to a gay nephew, can we refrain from using the therm "that's so gay" when it comes to something derogatory?

with the wall charger the note 3 came with, reallly fast. Just as fast as you stated. But through USB, slow as molasses, probably 1% every 5 minutes. which is why i was wondering if the USB fast charge option was available. On my galaxy nexus charging through USB, it was just as slow. With USB fast charge turned on, it charged as fast as a wall charger through USB.

Hmmmmm, odd. Does your machine have USB3 ports? I know that's supposed to be good for only speedy file transfers, but I wonder if it also speeds up Charging? I've just never noticed slow trickle charging from my computer. The only time it's slow is when I use a regular USB2 cable in the car....then it's slower than molasses in January.

I do have USB3 available on my computer, but havnt tried it for charging yet. So far my USB charging has been done through my car which is some random usb 2 cable. Which now that i think about it i believe its only a 1 amp charger in my car, if that. It was enough for my galaxy nexus but probably not so for the note 3. The note 3 wall charger is i believe 2.0 amps?
Im wondering if charge rates matter through usb2 / 3.
If i get a 2.0 amp car charger and use it with a usb 2 cable, will i still achieve 2 amp charging speed? Or for the note 3, i have to use a usb 3 cable?

Not sure. My Laptop has a USB port that charges devices even when the Laptop is turned off, but I do know that my Nexus required less juice to charge up, where the N3 doesn't keep up when I charge it in the car, so I think it's the 1 / 2amp question

S4 Charger and phone get really hot

Hi all,
I have a Samsung s4 GT i9505 and when i leave it for charge the charger gets very very hot and im not sure on what to do. I only bought the phone yesterday ( 22/07/14) so it was only my first night with it. I decided to switch off the phone and leave it on charge, but that made no difference. I installed all the OTA updates yesterday as well.
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

I have the same problem with my s4. I guess it is normal for a samsung devices, because I heard from other people having this problem on a s3 or s2
Same here, as long as it doesnt shut down its np, the charger for s4 provides 2A which makes it warm while charging
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
It is not a problem. The battery gets warmer because samsung charger gives more "juice" than most other chargers. The battery needs more power to charge because the phone uses it more, so the battery heats up more. Also, it charges faster...
The higher the charger current (2A), the faster the charge rate, but also, more heat!
Guys my charger isnt a 2A charger, I got a 1A travel adaptor.
Input 100-240V 50-60Hz 0.15A
Output 5.0V 1.0A
But it runs incredibly hot when i leave it for a charge.

Fast charging hit and miss.

Hi Guys
More and more recent im now struggling to get fast charge to kick in.
I charge mostly over night , but sometimes need this fast charge if im in a hurry during the day.
It used to work fine !
Charger looks ok , using everything /cable that it came with. Does not matter what percent my phone is at , even below 10% Makes no difference.
Swapped out to different wall outlets, again makes no difference.
Sometimes to get it to kick in i have to reboot the device.
Anyone else getting this.
cheers

It`s because the original charger cable from samsung. Buy a different cable from amazon or like that. That helps you out
Original cable was not good. Use a short and thick 3rd party cable. Works like a charm
Ditto what everyone else has said. I only have problems with the Sammy charger. I have an anker QC2.0 for the house and an aukey QC2.0 for the car. Always goes into fast charging mode with those.

Thanks guys , works like a charm coming away from the original cable..
straight in to fast charge.
Pretty damn poor that this got out of Quality control , beings though it was a big thing... for this device.
Oh God bless you guys you were so damn right. And I thought it was a software bug or something. 10 out of 10 plug in with my older LG cable triggers fast Charging while with the stock Samsung cable still missing it randomly.
