Anyone run into this? Did a search on the forum but got nothing...
This is what I am following
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 3.) Leave all check boxes the way they are. Do NOT check the repartition box.
Step 4.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 5.) Click the PDA button and select T959UVJI6.tar and then click Start
This true?
STEPS:
1. Power down phone with no USB cable connected.
2. Once you see “good bye” connect USB cable.
3. Wait till battery indicator is visible, and you can see the current charge in green.
4. Hold vol+ and vol-.
5. Press power until screen goes black, then let go of power only.
6. Should see the yellow digger.
7. Once your in download mode open up Odin v1.3:
8. Uplug your USB Cable and plug it back in until you see a Green COM port show in Odin
9. Check PDA under Files [downloaded]
10. Press PDA button and point this to the .tar file extracted from the firmware update. (T959UVJI5(FUS).tar)
11. Press Start and be patient you will see progress bars on your phone and in Odin if all is working properly.

Whats the phone usb setting suppose to be? I've tried Media player, mass storage and samsung Kies with no luck.
It doesn't matter what your phone's USB settings are. You have to make sure you have the Samsung drivers loaded on your PC. And, you have to make sure you're in download mode. Here's the process the I follow (copied from somewhere on here I'm sure, sorry I can't give proper credit), it's worked for me every time:
1. Start ODIN Odin3. [Android + SLP], through ODIN select the .pit file from the ROM you want to flash.
2. Hit "PDA" button, and through ODIN select the .tar file from the ROM you want to flash.
3. Plug your TURNED OFF PHONE into the USB cable
4. Wait for the Battery/ charging indicator to start
5. HOLD VOL UP+ VOL DOWN+ POWER, as soon as the screen goes black RELEASE POWER, and continue to HOLD VOL UP+ VOL DOWN Until it enters download mode. Which should happen quickly and looks like a men at work highway sign.
6. If a COM port has turned Yellow in ODIN, then the device has been recognized. If it hasn't, unplug and plug your phone back in (I always have to do this).
7. Don't select any options other than what's set at default unless the particular ROM's instructions say otherwise.
8. Hit Start and be patient, it takes me maybe 5 minutes to get back up and running.
NOTE: If you do not see a blue progress bar on the phone's screen after a minute:
9a. Turn your phone off by pulling the battery.
9b. CLOSE ODIN
9c. Start at step 1 again.

Thanks a lot.
In my case the phone is recognised by Odin 1.3 only in recovery mode. When I get into a Download mode no yellow com message and I can disconnect and reconnect as many times as I want to no avail. And I have USB drivers installed and I can do "adb reboot download" as well. This is when I do all this with the phone off. When I do it with the phone on, it will be recognised by the Odin, but after I choose the pit and the rom and click the "Start" it will go int SetupConnection and then "All threads completed (succeed 0/failed 1)
Seems like I am having trouble even getting into the download mode the phone just boots up as regular, trying to reinstall samsung drivers right now.
now I am getting this
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
grRRRRR
Yeah no matter what I do my phone just seems to boot into regular mode.

I had problems with ODIN my first time too. First of all, are you running windows 7? If so you need to download and install the correct drivers. There is a thread on xda with both the 32 and 64 bit drivers. Another thing, I have readwhat seems like a dozen different methods for getting into download mode, but only ONE has ever worked. Plug your phone up to your computer and wait for the battery charging icon to completely show up... THEN hold down both volume buttons and power on. Let go of ONLY the power button when the screen goes black. A few secs later you should be in download mode. As for ODIN not seeing your phone it really sounds like you just need the drivers installed. Make sure "usb debugging" is turned on in settings> applications> development. One other thing to note, once in download mode with ODIN up and running you MUST unplug your device from the usb then plug it back in. Once you do this ODIN should see your phone. Now you should be good to go! I hope this helps and good luck!
Tried that, tried this

No luck, this is really frustrating argh
I can get into download mode and my drivers that I have downloaded from Samsung site allow me to do adb shell stuff. So I assume that the driver is OK.
But no luck being recognised by Odin and only in the Download mode.
Really strange.

Yeah I am on 7 64 bit, installed the samsung 64 bit drivers. I will try this 2-3 times I guess. I hear some newer vibrants are locked from using hardware keys to get into download mode.... true?

Honestly I wouldnt mess with a hw locked phone . You should try to get it replaced . There is an adb command to get to download mode if you want to try that .

When I first used ODIN, it didnt recognize my phone either. After open device manager on my pc (windows vista), I saw that I was missing a Gadget Serial Control driver. I had a lot of trouble finding it, but read in an android forum that Samsung NPS was needed to use ODIN. I dont think that is true, but I installed it and found that I had all my needed drivers. JI6 flashed without a problem at all.
As far as d/l mode. I removed sd and sim cards. Have USB plugged into computer with ODIN opened. hold Vol + and vol - simultaneously while plugging the USB into the phone. D/L mode should come up automagically. If it doesn't, you will need to find the thread on how to go into it via ADB.
Hope this helps...
Another option is remove battery press and hold volume up and down plug in usb put in battery and the phone should go into download mode

If you're not using Odin3 version 1.3 you should give that a try. Seems more stable to me, others say the same. See forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790026 (I can't post a working link since I'm a newbie here).
Odlin recognizes my phone no problem, I think its hardware locked "3 button issue" that prevents me to get into download mode. Now I need to figure outif its possible to get into download mode without pressing buttons.
Ok if you can use abd to get to download mode tar file has been created today that fixes hw locked phones Http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802763&page=2

How to do I put my vega in nvflash mode? I have a custom rom now and I did that before but I forget how. Everywhere where I read I get steps to get into ClockworkRecovery Mod but I need to get into nvflash. I want to instal a new rom but I stuck on this little thing
Hi there
This has been covered before, lots of times. Please use the search function before starting a new thread. It just adds clutter to a great forum.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179538 i answered in post 7.
And Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989216
Take it easy
I read that and I tried that. What I get is that power off screen with, power off, restart, recover options and when I push power button slighty less my screen shuts down but nvflash doesn't apear in device manager, nothing happens
Nothing appears on the screen until you start the rom install. Check its in the right recovery in your device manager on the pc. Nvidia recovery should appear in the usb section. If not reinstall the usb drivers from the advent website.
Good luck.
Rememeber that the vega must be plugged.
I finally did it, thanks a lot! The problem was what you don't need to push buttons for 2 seconds each, just 1 second hold did the trick

Actually it is easy to put your Vega type tablet into nvflash mode without a power cable attached -
1 Press Poer button to start boot.
2 As soon as the screen lights up, press and hold down the POwer button until the boot is aborted and the tablet goes back to being pwered down.
3) Immediately start the Back Button, Power buttin, Back button routine and the tablet will now successfully go into nvflash mode.
Enjoy.

hm, i have to hold the back button for at least 3 seconds on my surfer MN10U, only then it responds to debug mode by clicking power. i even dint get a feedback from windows. i only see it when obening hardware manager and see a "nvidia debug device" under usb devices.
Don't know what could be wrong here... I've tried to boot the device into flash mode:
1. keep reset button pressed
2. insert power cable
3. connect the other end of the USB cable to PC
After the steps above I saw the usual android robot on the device screen, then I simply disconnected power and USB cable (nothing else has been done). Now if I power on the device it boots always in download mode... I can boot the device into "flash" mode in the same way, but _without_ connecting power cable, the device is recognizable by the Rockchip Batch tool or the rkflashtool. With the last tool I can read/backup everything, but the device is booting only in the download mode. I'd appreciate any ideas.
EDIT: Sorry for the noise... It just takes a long while to boot with different android logo the first time after entered flash/recovery mode.
Sorry, wrong thread ...
I was following instructions to do a custom rom on my A500 tablet. I got it rooted and got the V9 bootloader installed. I was in the process of doing the CWM to update to the OMNI 4.4.4 rom.
Now, the screen doesn't come on and the safely remove hardware has an Acer Picasso USB boot-recovery driver.
I've tried putting the zips from the "A500 ICS Full Update files" thread and pressing the volume button+power for 3 seconds. I hear the tablet come on via the usb sound on my laptop, but there's nothing happening on the screen at all.
When I try to put the tablet in the APX mode nothing changes on the tablet or how it shows up in my device manager. I've even tried reinstalling the device drivers.
fastboot, adb, and vflash do not see the device...
{update}
I left the tablet charging all night to see if that might have been a problem.
The tablet's power button was showing fully charged.
When I tried to put it into APX mode the light is showing white and it still shows up as that "Acer Picasso USB boot-recovery driver. "
I did notice after the power button was lit white that if I press the reset button that light turns off for about 2 seconds and comes back on. but that's the only life it shows.
Hoping someone can shed some light. Rushing to root phone again to send back warranty replacement, in my haste my laptop died mid flash and now can only boot in Fastboot and Crashdump Mode.
I am attempting to restore to factory via the MSM tool but cannot for the life of me enter EDL mode.
With phone powered off and pressing the vol up and down keys while plugging into the PC, it only enters Fastboot mode
I have tried to do it with phone off, rebooting from Crashdump mode, from fastboot and it seems that no combination allows me to do so.
I have also tried just vol up and vol down. App loaded at the flash screen, not loaded, etc.
Thanks in advance

What I did when I was in Crash Dump Mode was,
Press and Hold Power Off and Volume Up button and release when the screen goes off. Now your phone is switched off. Now to enter the EDL mode you need to press and hold volume up and volume down buttons at the same time...and then connect the mobile to pc while still holding the buttons. Done. MSM tool will detect your phone.
NOTE : Also keep the Device Manager window open on the PC while u connect the phone to pc and check if it shows up there.

It always seems to take me several tries to get it right. I think if I don't hit the vol +/- keys right at the exact time that's the problem. Just be patient and keep trying. The first time I did it, it took me what seemed forever. Thought maybe my phone was broken.

You just need to keep trying it. Make sure you hit vol+/- at the same time and hold for a few seconds, plug in the USB cable, then let off the vol keys. It's difficult to do and get right with two hands. Recently did it again as I wanted to upgrade to the 11 beta from a clean system. Seems like it took me forever to get it this time but eventually I did.
Use usb 2.0 port.
After using 2.0 instead of 3.0 and the phone connected stable for a while (after many tries)
able to finish the msm operation successful ..
But phone not booting .. getting black screen after 1+ logo
at this point I thought to clear cache but My phone is locked I cannot use any recovery .. I cannot even go into oneplu recovery LOL .. It seems like I am doomed
For me personally I could only get it to work on USB2.0 ports. On USB3.0 it just puts me back into fastboot mode or when it does go into EDL MSM tool just fails with a communication error immediately.
I kinda bricked mine as well messing around with GSI ROM's and flashing too hastily and to the wrong partition lol.
It has always worked for me with USB 2.0 port and non oneplus cable.
originable cable would not work for me on usb 3 or USB 2 port, but 3rd party cable start immediately with USB 2 port.
I've had the issue where EDL mode works..... for a few seconds, then the phone reboots.
Very frustrating!
The MSM Download Tool does spot the phone, but since the phone seems to reboot, I don't have enough time to do anything!
Any ideas why this is happening?

You need to already hit start on msmtool BEFORE plugging in phone
1- start MSM tool (prepare the settings and choose the right oos)
2-keep the cable connected to one end (I prefere to keep it connected from the phone side first)
3-keep holding volume up/down for 3-4 sec and connect the other end of the cable to your PC
4-your device will be connected directly stop holding volume up/down and in msm tool press start wait for ≈300 sec
5-now your device should work as it was before

This is a royal pita! I remember when it used to be fun....
Anyway, I've been trying every trick in the book, and then some, but shiznit just isn't going right! The holding of the up and down buttons would be easier if this was the pixel, but it is a tad hard to not mistakenly hit the power button on the other side.
The device manager shows the Qualcomm QDLoader and the msm Downloader is showing the infamous waiting for device... I've been at it for 8 straight hours and if there was a local OnePlus store that sold the international version of the OP8P, that's where I would be heading in a few hours.... It's really frustrating to say the least.
Anyway, when I'm in the bootloader, the device manager shows the Android phone, so I'm thinking that maybe I am in the edl mode when the Qualcomm port shows up, but like I said, the msm is waiting....
tried everything and it is constantly booting into bootloader. I even tried an adjusted fastboot script to boot into EDL but it still boots into bootloader. I have booted into EDL before on a OnePlus 7T, and I have tried multiple times by pressing the OnePlus 8 pro volume buttons at the same time, but always bootloader. Just to check, I tried doing it on my OP 7T again and it worked perfectly fine. Help????
I have had to flash stock 4 times because I land in crash dump mode and it has always been a tricky situation to get into edl.
What worked for me 100% of the time was following the steps in the youtube guide below.
From 2:30 onwards
Hope it helps
I had the same issues, but fixed once read comments as per above. Let me summarize what I did:
1. installed driver Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (I'm using Windows 10) - driver in a cab file should be unpacked using command expand (with proper switches) to preserve folders.
2. launched MSM DT and had it configured and then pressed Verify\Start, as EDL is available only for very short time - 2-3 secs with screen turned off.
3. as my phone was stuck in booting loop I was just keeping presses Vol+/- waiting for EDL to be entered, MDM will find the phone and start uploading data.
Just don't give up trying.

Try different ports. My usb 3 port would force it into fastboot but usb 2 was fine.
What to do if the device doesn't have any usb 2.0 port?
