I have a defy+ (the MB526 NOT a defy), got the lovely boot loop this morning and had to flash with an SBF file I found. details of my phone and the file are at the bottom of this post.
I cannot root this phone now: have tried every method I can find, from the german batfile to demonlord. won't do it. I have all the correct phone settings.
Seems i'm not alone, other UK users seem to be affected too.
The SBF file comes with BLUR as well... ugh bloat..
MY QUESTION:
where can I find a good SBF file FOR DEFY+ that works well on a DEFY+ that I can also root? i've searched much of these forums today and there are many garbled posts about DEFY+ on DEFY etc , and a few links where the file has been removed, so there seems to be no definitive place where you can get a link
to an SBF file on this forum for the DEFY+.
There *may* be some buried away in the threads about custom roms for defy handsets, but nothing that you can point to and go THAT ONE.
SBF File Used:

If you couldn't root it the way you did before it means that that's a bl7 sbf. But, luckily enough, it can be rooted since a week back, or so
Check this out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013
All DFP-188 and newer ROM's are bl7 No downgrade-ability for you.
Oh, and you've asked about sbf's - you can flash DFP-188, DFP-231 and DFP-2311 only, no other bl7 for now!
thanks for the info. pesky new boot loader eh?
found this - worked for me! be good if someone could take it and make a sticky with these details in on how to root defy+ handsets with locked boot loaders.

Hey guys,
I'm currently using a Defy+ and had the model number mb 526 (Defy+).
Build number 4.5.1-134 DFP 74 was installed before without any roms.
Yesterday I updated to 4.5.2-109_DHT-22 (Android 2.3.4 to 2.3.6) which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413214.
Everything is running perfectly I just realized that the model number changed from mb 526 to mb 525 which is the model number of the normal Defy.
I would like to know if there is a fix for it or if i have done anything wrong.
As you can probably tell I'm new to this forum.
Thanks in advance (btw. how to thank in this forum?)
Hi,
Coz your phone is a MB526 you need to flash the full SBF with RSDlite. Not the nandroid with CWM...
Oh I see...
Can i still flash the full SBF or will it cause any unwanted side-effects?
I just flashed the fixed SBF
I flashed mine with the 4.5.1-134-DFP-132 retail. FR Sbf and it works really great. Just WARNING you can't downgrade (go back) to 2.3.4 after that!...

I had the wrong url in my post. I flashed only the fixed sbf and have the 4.5.2-109_DHT-22. I'm pretty sure that I'll not be able to flash your 4.5.1-134-DFP-132, but thanks for your help
// Solved the problem by using my nandroid backup to recover
look for the build.prop CWM flashable zip that matches the version u installed
I have also updated (sbf using RSD Lite). Everything is fine here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
Hello everyone,
I am a new member here and I know asking questions is annoying when there're someone who ave already asked it before, so I have searched , looking around at different areas, I have gain some knowage about SBF and Roms and so on, and now I have faced a problems :
As far as I know there are Roms and Root software for version 2.3.6 , but they are for DHT - 22/23 , I have spend two days but still couldn't found any post that's directly saying about how to Root the version of my Defy+ :
2.3.6_DFHKT_U_4.5.2-109_DHT-25 version,
So I am asking here if there are one have already posted a way to Root this version, or it just can not be rooted
Have you tried using SuperOneClickRoot? I don't really know ALL the DEFY+ ROMs, but all that can be rooted - can be rooted with SuperOneClickRoot. If it fails, then I guess you'll have to wait a while for the developers to get there :-/

Yea, I know there's SuperOnsClickRoot that can be use,
but I have read the post and the users said that it seems didnt work on the newer version of the Defy+ ( that's my DHT-25) ,
but also I find that's Rom of DHT-25 version ,
and I think I should Root my defy+, so I can Flash my Defy+ , right ?
Those DHT-25 version Roms are all for the older version to upgrade to DHT-25, but not for Rooting DHT-25 itself, so I am a bit confuse ,arrrr,
But I will try to test it tomorrow, let you know if it will works or not ! Thx anyway
: (
I have tried both the UnLock Root & SuperOneClick v.2.3.3 , but still, they are Fail to root my Defy+ , I have searched a lot in XDA and it seems no one hae talkabout Rooting the newer version SBF of DEFY + ( 4.5.2-109_DHT-25 ) , any suggestions : ( ?
There is no way to root the latest Android 2.3.6 sbfs, yet.

So finally a clear answer for me , and I can see there's a "yet" at the end . .. is there's some clues that in a short period it could happen ?
Any update?
Ok,
Now pardon my lack of experience, I rooted another phone a long time ago and it was painless. Things have changed...
I got a brand new Defy+ from a reputable online retailer today and I was aiming to have it all done and installed with CM9 by tomorrow. Good luck with that says Murphy's law. I have this particular version of 2.3.6 that is apparently unrootable by the easy methods.
Details:
System Verion: 45.1.25.ME525+.Retail.en.05
Model: ME525+
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: EPU93_U_00.60.02
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-g6977577
Build Number: 4.5.2-109_DHT-25
Scoured the net, scoured xda devs, I can find mentions, but nothing about how to get around this. Every mention is about if you have an unlocked bootloader already etc. I'm not at that point yet.
DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit v4 doesn't work, neither does SuperOneClickv2.3.3 (or 2.3.1 as I read and tried).
I'm at this point where I want to play with flashing SBFs, except I know if I get it wrong (from what I read), I'll have a bit of an issue (BL numbers and such).
So....an appeal to the other Defy+ tinkerers out there, anything you can suggest? Or, which SBF can I flash that will let me get to a version where I can root and move to some other wonderful new ROM?
Thanks,
Overflow255
Ok,
So, I said stuff it, got the 5.7 version of RSDLite and tried to downgrade to the DHT-22-23 SBF from the sbf.droid-developers defy+ repository.
That was not sucessful - all I got were black screens, but I can confirm that you can still flash again.
So I'm going to basically try a number of other ROMs until one works. I'll keep everyone posted, since I seem to be a bit of a trailblazer with this one.
Awesome.
Follow these lads: "DFP-188, DFP-231, DFP-2311 BL7 Finally Rooted" (I still can't post links...)
Basically, you flash one particular rom, wipe, then flash a rooted version of the same rom.
So I now have a rooted CEE rom. Time to bust out!
Hi,
I have a defy+ that was flashed with a 2.3.5 SBF (the first from this list: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php)
I'm not sure it was the smartest thing to do, and I understand that I can't downgrade to lower versions now (correct me if I'm wrong). but whats done is done.
Are there ROMs with RTL fix that are available to me in this state?
I went through the beginners guides (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982) several times thoroughly, but apparently a lot of it is not applicable to the Defy+.
I appreciate your help.
Hello all!, how do I find out my bootloader version I have green lens defy and when I go onto bootloader it says 09.10? is there anyway to be certain what bootloader version I have?
Thanks
If you are on a green lense and haven't flashed a Defy+ stock ROM, you are either on CGXX version 3 if you are on Eclair (not very likely) or on CG version (the so called BL version) 4 if you are on Froyo.
Is there no other way to find out my bootloader version? because a bit ago I accidentally flashed Defy + SBF to my phone after that managed to recover it so is there a way I can find out what Im on right now? because every time I try and flash 2.2.2 Retail british it just says pass and keeps with white led light and then I have to reflash this eclair thing.
There is no way to tell by looking at the phone. You need to point the highest BL version ROM you have flashed, but if you have flashed GB stock ROM, you have to forget about your camera,
Thats the thing my battery and camera works fine? could I have BL5?
If you have ever flashed a GB stock ROM, you probably are on a BL 6 Chinese Froyo.
What SBF could I flash that wouldnt harm my phone to see if any work?
Questions go in the Q&A section
Dont know the previous history of my defy
Guys, I bought 2 defys(both red lenses) of ebay. Both came with miui 2.3.3 (android version 2.3.7) pre-installed, with second init. Kernel version is 2.6.32.9-gb08c3c8 [email protected] #1 Fri June 3 11:40:33 CST 2011.
Dont know what's the highest version sbf was installed by the previous owner. in the first defy, flashed stock froyo sbf, resulting into soft-brick. tried to bring it back to life by all the methods given here on forum, but all failed. Finally installed BL6 defy plus df-125 sbf, and phone is back to normal, rooted with superoneclick with second init working.
Dont want this to happen on my second defy.
Want to know which sbf to flash in the second defy without elevating the BL version. Any method to check the current BL version.

Thanks for the links. Have already read them when my first defy was soft bricked. The issue is it failed to boot even with bl5 sbfs. Had to flash a BL6 SBF to make it working. My second defy which is still on miui 2.3.3 needs tinkering. But for that I need a safe base rom sbf, don't know the present bootloader version, because I got it from someone with miui preinstalled.

There was some Chinese app for this, but I don't recall the name. You can check bl version by hit and trial, starting from 5, or to be safe from 4. At the point when you don't get the boot loader error, you will come to know about the current bl version

I'm a brand new owner of a Defy XT from republicwireless. I'm wanting to root it but I haven't a clue whether it's a BL7 or not (the instructions in the beginner guide give two sets of instructions, one for BL7, one for non-BL7).
What does it mean? Is it really that important? Any relevant threads? (I couldn't find any :s)
Edit: As I suspected, BL means bootloader, however I'm struggling to find out what version BL I have.. Any help?
Edit2: I did hours worth of googling and found this super easy root method for republicwireless users.
androidpolice . com/2013/01/28/exclusive-one-click-root-for-the-republic-wireless-motorola-defy-xt-single-and-dual-band-with-the-newest-ota-1_65k_1027-or-older/
Note: Had to put spaces around the "." after android police, remove them for the URL to work.
This works with build number 1_65K_1027 as far as I know!
