Hey guys,
I'm currently using a Defy+ and had the model number mb 526 (Defy+).
Build number 4.5.1-134 DFP 74 was installed before without any roms.
Yesterday I updated to 4.5.2-109_DHT-22 (Android 2.3.4 to 2.3.6) which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413214.
Everything is running perfectly I just realized that the model number changed from mb 526 to mb 525 which is the model number of the normal Defy.
I would like to know if there is a fix for it or if i have done anything wrong.
As you can probably tell I'm new to this forum.
Thanks in advance (btw. how to thank in this forum?)
Hi,
Coz your phone is a MB526 you need to flash the full SBF with RSDlite. Not the nandroid with CWM...
Oh I see...
Can i still flash the full SBF or will it cause any unwanted side-effects?
I just flashed the fixed SBF
I flashed mine with the 4.5.1-134-DFP-132 retail. FR Sbf and it works really great. Just WARNING you can't downgrade (go back) to 2.3.4 after that!...

I had the wrong url in my post. I flashed only the fixed sbf and have the 4.5.2-109_DHT-22. I'm pretty sure that I'll not be able to flash your 4.5.1-134-DFP-132, but thanks for your help
// Solved the problem by using my nandroid backup to recover
look for the build.prop CWM flashable zip that matches the version u installed
I have also updated (sbf using RSD Lite). Everything is fine here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537

I'm currently running 2.3.6 but with a model number showing MB526.
What I want is 2.3.6 SPF's showing model number MB525. Are there any out there ?
I'm running Build 4.5.1-134_DFP_231 which I'm happy with but it's not perfect.
I'd prefer to flash than use SGS Tool app to change the model number.
Any ideas ?

You can change it by editing /system/build.prop. There are no motorola Gingerbread rom for MB525
THERE IS NO GINGERBREAD FOR DEFY ... GINGERBREAD IS FOR DEFY+ ONLY ...
So if you are really on 4.5.1-134_DFP_231 then you have a big problem ...
there is no way to rout or even downgrade this rom ... and defy+ has another battery then standard defy ... so if you are using your standard battery and are running an 2.3.6, this could damage your battery ...
Thanks for the help. I used ES file explorer to edit the file and changed the model number back to MB525 .. worked like a charm.. anybody needing help editing build.prop should check the following link i found -> do a search on -> How-to-edit-build-prop-to-fix-market-amp-enable-4g-if-it-is-in-your-area on another forum
I have no intentions of downgrading from 2.3.6.. My phone is working great.
It might have been asked before but I couldn't find the solution. I am in need of a guide to install Argen2Stone 3.0 onto my milestone 2 currently running on the froyo kernel. I don't want to flash any sbf that is not downgradable because I really like the MIUI which (to my understanding) is only working for froyo kernels.
I know that the Chinese GB can be downgradable? But I'm not sure which one to get. The link on http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2 says "DE/AT/CH" under country, and not specifically Chinese, so I am wondering if this is the downgradable sbf to flash. Then if it is, multiupload isn't working... So I need a mirror if anyone have one :s.
Then after I flashed the sbf file, all I have to do is to restore the nandroid? Anything else I need to be aware of to prevent myself getting stuck with stock GB?
Thanks in advance.

As long as you don't apply the Vivo (Brazil) and Personal (Argentina) you're good to go. With 2.3.4 UK and 2.3.6 Retail Brazil (and several others) you'll be able to downgrade with the tutorial that's in the Android Development section (look at the topic and see how it works, it's on the first page), even though they don't use the Chinese Kernel.
Yeah but the link to multiupload is still not working. I also would prefer if I could just flash the CH rom and if I don't like it, flash back the froyo.
This is the download link of uk 2.3.4 stock rom from china
The md5 is not the same as the original ,so measure whether it is suit for you
115.com/file/dn8kptoc#
Add http yourself. If you dun know chinese ,the image I uploaded may help you.
I have uploaded a image that is "about phone" after i flash this sbf
I too am looking for a solution to this. I hate the multi-touch bug present in the UK kernels and wish that ROM devs would use CH instead. AFAIK only Endless's CM7 uses CH kernel as standard.
posting here as unable to reply to any dev posts (new user)
I have a defy+ (the MB526 NOT a defy), got the lovely boot loop this morning and had to flash with an SBF file I found. details of my phone and the file are at the bottom of this post.
I cannot root this phone now: have tried every method I can find, from the german batfile to demonlord. won't do it. I have all the correct phone settings.
Seems i'm not alone, other UK users seem to be affected too.
The SBF file comes with BLUR as well... ugh bloat..
MY QUESTION:
where can I find a good SBF file FOR DEFY+ that works well on a DEFY+ that I can also root? i've searched much of these forums today and there are many garbled posts about DEFY+ on DEFY etc , and a few links where the file has been removed, so there seems to be no definitive place where you can get a link
to an SBF file on this forum for the DEFY+.
There *may* be some buried away in the threads about custom roms for defy handsets, but nothing that you can point to and go THAT ONE.

If you couldn't root it the way you did before it means that that's a bl7 sbf. But, luckily enough, it can be rooted since a week back, or so
Check this out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013
All DFP-188 and newer ROM's are bl7 No downgrade-ability for you.
Oh, and you've asked about sbf's - you can flash DFP-188, DFP-231 and DFP-2311 only, no other bl7 for now!
thanks for the info. pesky new boot loader eh?
found this - worked for me! be good if someone could take it and make a sticky with these details in on how to root defy+ handsets with locked boot loaders.

Moving to Q&A
Hello all!, how do I find out my bootloader version I have green lens defy and when I go onto bootloader it says 09.10? is there anyway to be certain what bootloader version I have?
Thanks
If you are on a green lense and haven't flashed a Defy+ stock ROM, you are either on CGXX version 3 if you are on Eclair (not very likely) or on CG version (the so called BL version) 4 if you are on Froyo.
Is there no other way to find out my bootloader version? because a bit ago I accidentally flashed Defy + SBF to my phone after that managed to recover it so is there a way I can find out what Im on right now? because every time I try and flash 2.2.2 Retail british it just says pass and keeps with white led light and then I have to reflash this eclair thing.
There is no way to tell by looking at the phone. You need to point the highest BL version ROM you have flashed, but if you have flashed GB stock ROM, you have to forget about your camera,
Thats the thing my battery and camera works fine? could I have BL5?
If you have ever flashed a GB stock ROM, you probably are on a BL 6 Chinese Froyo.
What SBF could I flash that wouldnt harm my phone to see if any work?
Questions go in the Q&A section
Dont know the previous history of my defy
Guys, I bought 2 defys(both red lenses) of ebay. Both came with miui 2.3.3 (android version 2.3.7) pre-installed, with second init. Kernel version is 2.6.32.9-gb08c3c8 [email protected] #1 Fri June 3 11:40:33 CST 2011.
Dont know what's the highest version sbf was installed by the previous owner. in the first defy, flashed stock froyo sbf, resulting into soft-brick. tried to bring it back to life by all the methods given here on forum, but all failed. Finally installed BL6 defy plus df-125 sbf, and phone is back to normal, rooted with superoneclick with second init working.
Dont want this to happen on my second defy.
Want to know which sbf to flash in the second defy without elevating the BL version. Any method to check the current BL version.

Thanks for the links. Have already read them when my first defy was soft bricked. The issue is it failed to boot even with bl5 sbfs. Had to flash a BL6 SBF to make it working. My second defy which is still on miui 2.3.3 needs tinkering. But for that I need a safe base rom sbf, don't know the present bootloader version, because I got it from someone with miui preinstalled.

There was some Chinese app for this, but I don't recall the name. You can check bl version by hit and trial, starting from 5, or to be safe from 4. At the point when you don't get the boot loader error, you will come to know about the current bl version

I´ve recently installed CM9 in my Milestone 2, but the general bugs made me change my mind. But, after trying every possible rom with 2.3.6 firmwares, I haven´t succeded in any of them. The only one working here is the Personal SBF, here from xda > http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2. After every installation, my phone gets stucked in black screens without recovery. RSD Lite can read it, though, so I can always install Personal SBF, root with these instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750277 - and go back to ICS from there. But it´s very weird.
Bottom line: Milestone 2 accepts Persona SBF LATAM with 2.3.6 and CM9. But will not downgrade to any other 2.3.6 rom nor can accept any MIUI version. It gets stuck in black screens without loading.
Sorry for my poor english. I´m not used to write in this language, but this seems the right place to ask for help.

2.3.6 firmwares are not downgradeable, so you can't go back to froyo if that's what you're trying, you should be able to successfully flash any of the 2.3.6 R01 firmwares such as personal or retail latam...

Tried stock (retail) from Brazil with no success. Weird. Was with Vivo sbf installed, no root. Than I´ve managed to root and install ICS. Now I´m trying to go back to some other rom with 2.3.6, but no one is working. Nor retail, nor tim, nor vivo, nor custom. Only ICS CM9 and Personal 2.3.6.
Am I missing something? I´ve followed the right procedures to upgrade, and follow the right instructions when trying other roms. But I´m almost giving up and leaving ICS installed. At least I´ll have no Blur or bloatware in my phone.

That is probably your problem. Using the Persona and Vivo rom. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497263
It says it's not possible to downgrade if you have those ROM installed. I was using UK GB ROM so I was able to downgrade to CM7/CM9.

2.3.6 personal is R01 which is newer than 2.3.6 brazil retail, you can't downgrade R01 or R02 firmwares, I mean you can't go back from 2.3.6 personal to 2.3.6 Retail Brazil, you can only flash R01 or R02 firmwares on your phone (Personal, Claro, Movistar, Retail Latam)
Try Retail Latam which is rootable and the less bloated of the R01 firmwares:
Retail Latin American M2L_U6_4.5.2_51-27_R01_SIGNED_US1MILA2GBRETLAB125LA003.0R_STABLE45LAMILETRETLA_P005_A028_M001_HWp2a_Service1FF.sbf.gz
Worked ^^
I wonder if I´ll be able to install CM7 from this rom.

There's a GB Kernel based CM7 from Endless7, but it's not as good as tezet's CM7 which is froyo based
