Please, I want a confirmed answer from someone who has updated to ICS from stock HC.
Will the update wipe all my data? I've seen answers here stating that it will, and that it won't. So, what's going to happen, FOR REAL??
No.

Apps are definitely not wiped.
I personally recommend you factory reset after though, just in case you end up one of those with issues after the upgrade. I factory reset mine even though I had no problems. So, backup whatever is on your internal storage that you want just in case you do end up having to wipe it.

ACER ICONIA TAB TABLETS UPDATED TO ANDROID 4.0
Acer Transitions Popular Iconia™ Tab Line to Android 4.0 to Give Customers More Features and Capabilities
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 17, 2012 – Acer America is now updating its award-winning Acer Iconia™ Tab line of tablets with the latest version of Android 4.0 OS (Ice Cream Sandwich).
The update is being pushed to Acer Iconia Tab A200 customers over-the-air now in the United States and will be completed over the following week. The Acer Iconia Tab A100 7-inch tablet and Acer Iconia Tab A500 10-inch tablet will both be updated in April.
With Android 4.0, the Acer Iconia Tab line will provide new features to give customers more usability and enjoyment from their tablets. Customers will notice the improvements right away – including the faster browser, enhanced app and folder management options, more intuitive navigation, and a completely reimaged design that is more polished with enhanced holographic effects. Plus, customers can more easily customize their Acer tablet and will enjoy improved multitasking and switching between tasks. They will also appreciate improved integration with Gmail’s email and calendar functions.
“The many enhancements in Android 4.0 OS complement the sleek, powerful and well-designed Acer Iconia Tab tablets to give customers an all-around first-rate experience,” said Paul Tayar, Director Product Marketing – Connected Devices, Acer America. “Customers will experience greater entertainment and productivity with the new capabilities and features on their tablets.”
Features and Enhancements Unique to Acer Tablets
The new update of Android 4.0 also includes several new features that are unique to Acer tablets. The updated tablets will now feature the highly-customizable Acer Ring, making it incredibly natural and easy to get instant access to favorite apps and features. The Acer Ring can be launched with a single touch and lets customers have quick and easy access to apps, surf the web, capture screen images, post photos and status updates to their social networks, and more.
Customers will also enjoy an improved weather widget and will be able to access their favorite apps even when the screen is locked.
Photos and Video Enhance Memories
Acer Iconia Tab customers will be able to do more with their photos and video thanks to the Android 4.0 update, including improved zoom and the ability to take snapshots while recording video. Customers will also be able to capture better still images and do more with them due to greater image stabilization and improved integration with third party apps. Both video clips and photos can be enhanced on the fly, stored and searched for based on various tags, and conveniently stored on Google+.

You should ask this question on galaxy note forum.

Does anyone know whether the update the SD card will be similar to the flash update, that is fix only one bug/feature or is it supposed to be more comprehensive kinda of like a service pack for windows ( address stability, add some moderate features, etc).
Given the wait I am hoping for the latter.
Also is the reason that there aren't more apps optomized for honeycomb is that source code has not been released? If that is the case why have some apps like quickoffice HD been able to be optimized for homeycomb?
Pardon my ignorance I just became an android convert (phone-samsung epic 4g and tablet)

No one knows how the update is going to be. The honeycomb SDK is what they use to build apps, and it has been out for a while now.
although some devs seem to be waiting for the source code still
I expect it will be a fairly big update, but not like 'a service pack' with LOADS of new features, probably just more a lot more bug fixes than just one SD fix...
I also imagine that some devs may be waiting a bit to see if tablet-specific apps catch on - and/or some may develop a new 'tablet edition' app rather than just tweaking old ones to run on Honeycomb... ?
Personally I am more disappointed with the bigger companies like BBC that haven't got iPlayer running on honeycomb!
What's weird is when I talk to some of the devs of paid apps they usually say want to do a honeycomb optimized version but need the source code. As was mentioned above the sdk was released in january so I don't really understand what they mean waiting for the source code.
Cnn does a fully optimized version, its pretty good. I know its not the bbc, but the cnn international isn't bad [that's what I watch when I visit my family in peru]. More similar to bbc style of reporting.
Well here's hoping for a honeycomb update so and more apps!

I know its off topic, but you don't need an app for bbc/Iplayer. Just watch it in the browser, isn't that the great thing about a xooom, you don't need lots of apps.....

A short great news from Engadget China.
it seems an engadget writer got an internal message from ASUS: Android 3.1 is expected to be released within next week, or even, as early as Tuesday.
source: http://cn.engadget.com/2011/05/27/android-3-1-eee-pad-transformer/
Android 3.1 newfeatures:
-UI refinements
-Connectivity for USB accessories
-Expanded Recent Apps list
-Resizeable Home screen widgets
-Support for external keyboards and pointing devices
-Support for joysticks and gamepads
-Robust Wi-Fi networking
-new browser, calendar, contact and email version
-Performance optimizations
etc.
I just got a brand new Transformer yesterday, turned it on and the first thing it did was ask me to update.
I'm almost certain it was to 3.1, I'll check when I get home tonight, but I have already been using the USB ports on it so it would have to be 3.1 wouldn't it?
I'll let you know once I check the version.
Sweet! That is something to look forward too!

No - the USB ports on the dock already work with 3.0.1 for many devices, so that isn't an indicator.
Chances are that your update is just the one released earlier this month, because your TF was probably on a boat on its way from China at that point in time!
Regards,
Dave

If its a new Transformer, then the update is most likely the Asus Firmware update rather than Honeycomb 3.1 (sorry to bring rain to a parade)
I received mine yesterday, as soon as when I connected to Wifi, I got the update which is 3.0.1.
I highly doubt its out next Tuesday. Especially after what Asus stated on Facebook a few days ago about the release schedule.
Could be, actually: there's a French review video showing 3.1 running on a TF. So, if it's far enough along to be sent on a review unit, it could very well be close to release.
I'll say, if they DO release it as early as next week (or even just within the first 10 days or so of June), then I'll be even more impressed with how Asus is supporting the TF so far.
Interesting update notif
This morning when I woke up, the device was kind a slow. I did a reboot. When it came on, I got an triangle icon with ! mark within saying that there is system update avail, click for update kind of thing.
I right away clicked it. It shown as downloading system update something but then it disappeared pretty quick. I went into system info page but not seeing anything news in term of android, firmware, wifi, bluetooth.... Did several force update request but nothing. So that was an interesting event.
Not sure if it was a internal Google update (map, music..) as we have heard several days now or Asus posted the OTA Android 3.1 for a quick test and pulled it out right away or something.
Anyway, leave a note here in case anyone else had it too.
With my TF being rooted and running custom ROM and kernel I am at the grace of the devs here anyway to release a modified 3.1
cant wait, ive seen it run on xoom, only a week away.....WOW....... not bad on asus' behalf getting the update out quick

"Even, as early as Tuesday?" Can't wait!
This is available for all countries right?
I was under the impression that support for external keyboards/mice was an ICS feature. Are we sure this is going to be in 3.1? (If so, that's fantastic)

It will likely be released market by market so US will get it first then others, same principle as other updates.

Nope, it's a honeycomb feature.
Hi there, just been reading about this after I found it on a gadget website this morning . hopefully it'll ship to tablets soon..... or if the devs in here, mdj and dexter are feeling generous they may buy one of the new tablets and port it over perhaps??
http://2dayblog.com/2011/06/23/android-3-2-coming-this-summer/
quick quote if you aren't allowed external site access and youre reading from your xda app.
"Yesterday we saw the launch of the world’s first Android 3.2 tablet, Huawei’s MediaPad. However, it seems it won’t be long until we see more tablets running 3.2, as the build is set for release this summer.
Android 3.2 doesn’t offer much in the way of features. This is my next reports that it does contain some bug fixes and improved hardware acceleration, but the biggest thing is that it will bring support for Qualcomm processors as well as Nvidia’s popular Tegra 2 chipset.
The Motorola Xoom will reportedly get Android 3.2 in the next few weeks, but Qualcomm support could mean that current 7-inchers (like the HTC Flyer) may also get the update. Fingers crossed!"
So seeing as the Xoom is getting it in the next few weeks, lets give support to our devs and maybe the A500 may get it also.
HC 3.2 is just 3.1 optimised for 7" tablets. Of no real relevance to Acer Iconia A500 users. It really should have been called 3.11 but then that might have recalled some scary memories for seasoned Windows users.

I got nostalgic for my first Windows PC, so I'm running my old "friend" Windows 3.11 on my Iconia using DOSbox.
In relevance to the thread though:
"Tech site This Is My Next, however, reports that Android 3.2 Honeycomb will be the last in the Android 3.x series and that it has several new features:
- optimized for 7-inch devices,
- expands support for more mobile processors such as NVIDIA Tegra 2 and Qualcomm’s processors,
- fixes some bugs and improves hardware acceleration, and
- provides updates to widgets and apps (e.g., Movies, Movie Studio, Music, etc.)."

Please do not take this a hateful or mean post to you wanting to pass on information .. But you might want to read the xda rules on posting and starting a new thread.. Search Search and Search.
tip for searching xda..
open web browser GO To www.google.com
once there type just say .. XDA acer iconia a500 ics or ice cream sandwich confirmation.. or when will we get..
there is also a built in search function within the forum itself.. For me i get better results in google as it brings information from all over the Net..

More likely to be increasing the pool of Beta testers
I installed the this firmware update. It isn't fixing the WIFI and GPS problem.
Release notes from ASUS:
"Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201 Firmware: V9.4.2.21 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.0.3)
V9.4.2.21 Release Note
1. Upgrade Google Mobile Applications
2. Upgrade Vibe version
3. New browser function which able to keep user’s choice of browser viewing type
4. Enable battery usage data in Settings.
5. New display mode of HDMI output
6. Enable press-able notification in lock screen
7. Support Wi-Fi Ad hoc mode
8. Add new system bar lock function"
Firmware info, may be read under ASUS DL section.
I noticed a small improvement to the known WIFI problem. I can now get "3 WIFI bars" in locations where I previously only got "2 WIFI" bars. Apparently this fix doesn't involve an improvement to the GPS problem.
Despite these known problem, I am actually very satisfied with my TF201.

Indeed, my bad sorry.
anything new?
I just hope that you owners of the TF101G won't get the same bugs we are experiencing at the moment on TF101.
I just don't understand Asus' strategy on this issue, they have lots of ICS TF101, almost everyone encounters issues at one moment or another. It clearly comes from ICS, as HC was rock solid (stability-wise) and they go on upgrading every available hardware as if everything was just fine ... forcing the update without letting customers the choice do it or not.
I use my TF101 for leisure, but I think there are some people around using for work, and the situation Asus created is just unacceptable.
Asus should fix the problem before continuing the deployment.
That was my 2 cents about the upcoming ICS update for TF101G.
Nickola
You are partially right.
Lots of users are not all users, ICS for TF101G has another version: .3; not .11 or .17.
Maybe asus as made some modification on "base" code (example: new cache flush and memory managing) as well as adding the drivers for the 3G.
Some of this new improvements your can find on next new tf101 firmware release.
Moreover, this also means treating people who have spent more, IMHO.
I hope this happen in very short time.
As a general rule that I practice, I won't update any apps the very moment they have a new version & likewise with firmwares. There are bound to be bugs or incompatibility with whatever apps that you might need to use. However, users in the Asus Transformer forum have both extreme ends of the stick, a group that has loads of issues & a group that has wonderful things to say about ICS!
I'm not sure if it's only me as I haven't had the time to ask questions about why Picasa uploading is absolutely impossible with the Honeycomb. I have tried uploading pictures with the native share of Picasa as well as Picasa Tool but could never do it. I figured it has something to do with Honeycomb because my friend has the same issue with his TF101G & this is why I can't wait to upgrade to ICS. I have only gotten the TF101G in February & it has given me loads of productivity in all-day conferences & workshops where it worked more than 8 hours (with dock) even with heavy computing. Best of all, I could multitask & cross reference to get my work done. Yes, I use it heavily for work.
If I'm not here, I'm underwater...!
