asus support - Eee Pad Transformer General

have to post this i have had my TF101 for a year today and with this lastest update i have had 6 updates to the softwre. That is excellent customer support works out an update every 2 months
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium HD app

Shhhh dont tell the gtab owners hehe

Updates are nice but I'd take quality over quantity any day.
Honeycomb took 3 attempts to get right, ICS isn't right yet after 3.
I like my TF101 and appreciate the effort Asus puts into supporting their older hardware but unfortunately the result hasn't always been what you'd hope for.
Perhaps 4 times is a charm, I'm keeping the faith.

There've been two updates to our ICS. The initial release of ICS can't be considered an update to ICS, by definition.
If you want to get really technical about it, there've been no updates (just bugfixes). The Honeycomb "attempts" you refer to were version updates, going from 3.0 to 3.1 to 3.2 to 3.2.1. Whereas I believe ICS on TF101 has started and remained at 4.0.3 so far.

Wait someone here who is actually happy with ASUS. Well I guess the world really is ending in 2012.

w00t!
I was trying to post this, but alas, I'm too new. This is good but expected news, except for those clamouring for it 5 minutes after Google announced it...haha
Just read that too, good news eh?
I also read the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.0 LE review .... hmmmm.

no doubt! i just hope the update also fixes the "sleep of death", "standby of doom", or "apocalyptic unconsciousness"...whatever you want to call it.
That's more of a .x fix I would presume...Either way, wife loves her transformer and dock!
Yes it will be nice to see 3.1 on this.
I hope this will end the "Where's 3.1? Asus is SCREWING US OVER BECAUSE IT'S NOT OUT RIGHT FREAKING NOW!!! OMGWTFBBQ?!?!?!" posts.
All good things come in due time. In the mean time, my TF with the keyboard dock is running just fine!
Is it going to speed things up too? As well as fix some of the bugs...
Really hope its out on june 1st 12:00am lol. Like christmas

I just want to buy a TF, period.
Good to hear that it will be coming out so soon for the Transformer. Hopefully we will see a lot of people's issues resolved alongside some performance increases.
Good for us!!!!!
Just awesome. From the sound of the Xoom 3.1 users, Honeycomb is more stable than 3.0. This is really the only thing I'm excited about. I can hardly wait!

Hate to be a Debbie Downer but the Google translation of the Italian post reads:
We can officially confirm that the update to Android 3.1 will be available for all users of the ASUS Eee Transformer Pad as part of a package of upgrades FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air). The release date will be announced in early June. Users will receive a notification on their Eee Pad when the upgrade will be available.
As I read it they will be announcing the release date in June, not necessarily releasing it in June.

This seems to be how Asus phrases things. They also said in early April that the US release date would be "announced in late April." Of course, the announcement preceded the actual release by about a week. So, I'm imagining that they'll announce the update pretty much when it's going to be available.

Been on the Xoom forum and they are reporting much better speed with the browsing the net, this is want i am really looking forward too...June cant get here fast enough!!!!
I've been using my Xoom with 3.1 (which I actually haven't returned only so I _could_ try out 3.1) and I can confirm that performance is better. What I really like about the update, however, is the much better multitasking. The expanded recent apps list works well, and it seems like the system handles multitasking better.
An example is Quickoffice. On 3.0.1, Quickoffice will basically lose a document it's editing once it's no longer in the recent apps list. When you click the icon to (re)launch the app, it will sometimes open with the edited document as it was last saved (and without edits made since last being saved) or it will open a blank document. It's a bit random, and Polaris Office is just as bad.
On 3.1, however, apps seem to save their states better and of course they remain in the recent apps list longer (I believe the list holds up to the last 18 apps). I was able to work on a document while switching among many more apps without losing my edits.
So, although it seems to be getting short shrift in all the coverage of 3.1, the improved multitasking is actually one of the more important aspects of the update for me. I really, really can't wait to get it.

ICS before the year is out?

What do you think? You think they will make it before the year is out?
I'm skeptical
ICS before the year is out...
Yup.
Just not gonna say which year.
i dont know its getting mighty close id love to see it but i dont see asus puttin it on the tf101 before they use it to sell the prime for a bit, but i think the devs have to be close and i am almost willing to bet the devs get it on the tf101 before asus unless they just have to wait for drivers from asus first to get the few things that arent readily working as it is...ive seen multiple devs with it on their devices or videos anyway. im thinking we could have cm9 by the end of january and asus should be pushin it by absolutely no later than february or march. i kno this seems long off but from the reading ive done its the general range...asus is ahead of most manufacturers on updates though....so we will see, i know im ready for it,i have a feeling this will accomplish the goal of fixing the fragmentation between phones, tablets, and more. and put android on track for complete dominance of the mobile markets.....you can do it!!!!lol
Given they have only just pushed out a HC3.2 update, no....
That's an admission that we won't be seeing ICS for at least a month.
I don't think so... I think that ICS will come in Mid-January or February If it wasn't later than that !!

Well, I just had a tiny update of some sort the other day. But I thought that might be to fix something in preparation for the big update.
Though, and I don't know if that is related to the patch, suddenly something seems to be running at 100% most of the time making the tablet very sluggish.

Probably not until after the Prime is widely available. They don't want anything eating into it's sales. Cyogenmmod might come out first.

Manufacturers, especially true manufacturers like ASUS and Samsung, generally don't care about supporting their products because they push out updated hardware too often.
I hope that ASUS will be far more reliable than Samsung has been with Android support though because Samsung is atrocious. You can pretty much expect zero support for any Samsung Android phone/tablet.

There is too much dumbfounding Samsung hate regarding updates
Fact: the i9000 got updates from 2.1 through 2.3.5 and is still getting weekly leaked OFFICIAL roms
Fact: The i9100 is now on 2.3.6 and has a leaked early ICS build
Fact: The Galaxy Tab 10.1 went from Android 3.0 to Android 3.2 with Touchwiz Enhancements
Fact: Samsung products are EASY to root, have Odin to flash roms from AND NEVER HAVE HAD LOCKED BOOTLOADERS
if you bought the US carrier locked versions then it is their fault that you're not getting updates. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing I see them doing wrong is not getting the ICS update for the original Galaxy S, but that may change soon.
Samsung flagship devices get updated wayyy more often than HTC or other manufacturers. FACT
As far as Asus goes, they are supporting their device well and I presume they will continue this, but patching the rooting is kind of a **** move to the community.

ASUS has been incredibly good about keeping the Transformer updated. Best of all the Android tablet makers, including Motorola with the Xoom (which was supposed the reference Honeycomb device). The Transformer has been updated to the latest available version of Honeycomb within a couple of weeks of its release.
I fully expect the same with regard to ICS.

See Asus, and this is how you do it..

Intentional leaks to keep users happy without upsetting Google.

I wouldnt be so quick to put Acer in a pedestal. Not only do they NEVER address their customers, but also have locked and signed bootloaders with no intention of unlocking them. Now, I dont think Asus has been fast or great to their users, but at least they communicate, listen, and are delivering updates way faster than the rest. (Pretty much every honeycomb device is projected to get an ICS update during Q2 or later, Asus is working for a late Q1 update...)
This is ICS related.
I might be wrong, but I thought we had a place for this sort of stuff...
OH WAIT, THAT'S RIGHT! IT'S THAT VERY FIRST STICKIED THREAD CALLED, "READ THIS NOW !!!•••POST ALL ICS AND ICS RELATED INFO HERE ONLY !!!!!".

This has never had *anything* to do with upsetting Google. Google couldn't care less if Asus releases for the TF101 tonight. They couldn't care less if they never release at all. Any Google approvals were given when the Prime build was finalized; beyond that Google isn't involved any more. Asus were just trying to make excuses, and Google made an easy scapegoat, because they won't comment.
The lack of truth to Asus' claim to be waiting for Google came when Asus themselves subsequently claimed the delay was down to their own techs being off for Chinese New Year, ie. not waiting for Google at all. Truth be told, the build has almost certainly been ready--at least, in as much as the Prime build was ready--from the same day the Prime build shipped. Asus have just chosen not to release for the TF101, likely initially because they wanted to build hype for the Prime (and "reward" Prime users for spending money more recently), and later likely because they realized a lot of Primes were being bricked, and didn't want to deal with warranty repairs for an even greater number of bricked TF101s, which are in the wild in far greater numbers.
Hence, we sit and wait until Asus fixes the TF201 problems, has sufficiently long to decide they're no longer bricking tablets, twiddles their fingers a bit, and then finally releases the TF101 build that's been available inside Asus all along.
At least, that's my (logical) guess.

Release Date for A500 ICS

Acer ANZ have given a release date for ICS for the A500 on their facebook fan page, and as usual for acer their promises of an april release have turned into more lies, their release date in answer to a question on their page is May 17.
Doesn't matter really, they haven't said no. There's plenty of aftermarket versions that work fine anyway.

The problem people have with dates is that they only look at the date and not the rest of what is said.
The Acer webpage says the date for the A500 update is TBA Mid April.
TBA means To Be Announced mid April.
Seems to me that since it is early April and not mid April, they are ahead of schedule.
But they are guilty of being late in the past.
Still, do not go by Facebook. It is not reliable for Acer announcements.
Acer ANZ is Datacom Manila, a closed group of 64.
Does not sound like an official Acer site to me.
Oh yea, here is the Acer webpage.

This will be my last Acer product until their management changes their priorities.
So far I've been deeply disappointed by the timeliness of their updates. Moto and Asus have already pushed ICS to their hardware and the Asus tabs has vastly superior hardware compared to Acer offerings.
I guess Acer is just not very attuned to their customers' needs and that's disheartening as an owner.

Let's see, I bought my A500 in August and it was loaded with 3.0. I quickly got the update to 3.1 and fairly soon received 3.2. What do you want, 5 major OS versions in a years time? Seriously, people... relax. Even if you have to only wait 2 more weeks, you're selling your tablet? I'm calling shenanigans.
Learn patience. A good, bug-free update, especially one with this many changes, is worth the wait. And if you're THAT impatient, root the darned thing and load one of the many ICS versions that many developers have to offer.

If you will be watching the frequency and the increasing quality of the ICS leaks in the Dev section, you can expect the official ics update soon. And if you don't want to wait just install one of the marvelous ics custom roms. The improvement over hc is huge! !

I totally agree. but i was just making note that there are other options. If a company sets itself apart from the others in a way they Support what customers want. Right now that company could Take many customers from the pack. People are sick of devices becoming obsolete and disposable in a year or less. And locked down tighter then FT KNOX. (i live about 10 minutes from there) I can tell its very secure.
As far as locked bootloaders, the vast majority of phone users don't even know of the possibility of modding... let alone have any desire to do it. The same goes for updates. People on sites like this represent the small minority of users. The typical tablet or phone user wakes up one day, looks at their device, sees a box saying there's an update, presses OK and goes on with their lives.
They bought their device based upon the user experience, not some vague hope that some major change will happen... sometime... soon.
Hello everybody, this is my forst post, so be comprehensive...
If someone wants an Acer ICS build there is the latest "leak 1.031" on the Developer section which is very easy to install - download the zip file, rename it to "Update.zip", put it on your extSD and reboot while holding "power" + "vol-".
I never did any mods to my A500 since I bought it, never rooted or so, but lately it was starting to freeze and force close quite a lot so I updated it manually and am very satisfied - running very smooth, web browsing is much faster (using ICS browser+) and everything seems to work perfectly! I'm just saying that it's a very simple way to get stable ICS without doing any complicated things (CWM, root, kernel mods, etc...)
Cheers!

While we wait, I have to wonder if the general number of us were polled as to WHY we want ICS, what the reasons would be? I'd like to have it, but honestly I don't know of any compelling reason aside from the fact that it is something new.
I'll bet once we get it not much time will pass before we are Jonesing for Jelly Bean for the same silly reason.
I'm running Thor's HC ROM on mine, and very happy with that. It runs well and everything works. What more could I realistically ask for? What's ICS supposed to bring us, anyway?

A little update: I've just asked if this is an official page and statement, so the answer was yes. They will inform us further, as soon as they get more info regarding updates.
Bad news, the post on the website seems to be taken down
All we need is one solid Rom, everytime a never version of android comes out it lays waste to many unfinished Roms.
There have been several announcements on other web pages saying that TF101 will not get Jelly Bean. To be honest, I don't think that ASUS will maintain our "outdated" model and provide a new firmware version.
I have successfully rooted my device, put RaymanFX CM10 ROM on along with timdurus KAT kernel. My TF101 is now much faster, much more responsive and rock stable. ... maybe you should give it a try.

Unfortunately the post from facebook was deleted, Asus representatives didn't provide any further info on JB update. At this point there are neither official confirmations nor denials regarding updates for TF101
Not a good sign...
Jb on tf101 is better supported here then something from asus anyhow.
I was on the online support chat for Asus NA a couple days ago and asked if there were any further updates expected for the TF101 or is it now unsupported and was told, by a Kyle, that as far as he could see that there was going to be an update to 4.1.1 for the TF101, but there was no official word or date of release yet. He also said that the TF101 was far from being irrelevant. Take it for what it's worth.
I have to say i'm feeling confident in an update as they have been many more confirmations then denials to an update for the TF101. Maybe a Christmas present from Asus.

Exactly. That's what I said too: It may be a christmas surprise. I just don't get why it takes that much for making just a new FW.. I mean, some people like RaymanFX which I guess that he learned everything from Internet can make BETTER FWs than Asus?.. Eh. Anyways. Hope they'll make a better firmware than ICS.

I cant wait when he finish the 3.1 divemaster kernel. Tf101 cxan compete now with tegra3 :3.
And ofcourse the 4.2 rom.
Also I really hope that asus will bring out JB on tf 101.
