I'm have very big problem and I need your help.
I have a Milestone 2 with Android 2.3.6 and Bootloader 70.12, both original Tim.
For a silly, which I regret very much, I decided to apply the MIUI ROM and did the following:
Unlocked the SuperUser > installed the "Droid 2 Bootstrap Recovery v1.0.0.3" > running the program installed "bootmenu_v0.8" > restarted the phone and tried to install the ROM MIUI indicated on the website of Brazil.
Done it tried to turn on the phone and the screen remained black (with backlight accesses, but no picture). I searched in many forums a potential solution to the problem and discovered that need to pass a new SBF.
I downloaded the "RSD Lite 5.5", the ROM 2.3.6 of Tim (I can't post links, but I've downloaded in And Developers WebSite). I tried to install and the phone was locked in the home screen (the screen with the Motorola M).
After searching a lot over the internet, I found that might have to update my BootLoader to 70.13. I did the procedure (which was reported as many caught on the screen "manualy reboot your phone" (something like that) but following the procedure I found here on XDA it worked).
I tried installing again and nothing ... Gave the same error described above.
Then I downloaded the same site mentioned above the Retail version of the ROM and tried to install 2.3.6 without success too (stands in the same boot screen of Motorola).
Looked in many places, including here, and saw that I should restart my phone holding the X and then press @ to enter the boot options to make the Wipe, but I cannot do this, when I start the phone by holding the X button, the cell gets the black screen again (with backlight on).
Please be very grateful if I help resurrect my phone.
The key combination you need to use may be different, if I remember it correctlly, you have to press vol up + vol down to get in stock recovery. If it doesn't work, search the forum, I've seen a lot of times people posting how to get in the recovery in official GB roms.

You may hold X + "Arrow Up" and power on or VOl UP + VOL DOWN + Camera. It will bring you to a exclamation screen then you press VOL UP or VOL DOWN to choose the options. choose Full Data Wipe and it should work.
Power off your phone, long press X and an icon with a droid and a question mark appears. Then press @ {some times to be honest}, and move up and down with the arrow keys {press power button to select}. So, move to "wipe data/factory reset" or something like this. Select ok. Wait a couple of minutes and then reboot. Your phone should boot normally

thiagomtl, I've tried both cases, and the result is the same: open the bootloader screen (show "Bootloader 70.13"...).

Sorry, probably I didn't explained the procedure correctly: you have to press the X key before pressing the power on button and keep it press until you don't see the droid with the exclamation mark.

riportodt, I've did it this way.
I've tried again and the result is the same: blackscreen (I've pressed the 'x' key for 5 minuts at least without any result)...
If I understand it correctly, you're phone only shows a black screen after turning it on.
This is bootloader mode. No need to press any buttons. All you need te do is start RSDLite and choose a correct SBF file. You can simply flash it this way and you should wait until the device reboots.

LOL, sorry man, didn't understand that
however yes, if is black screen, with a flebile backlight you're in bootloader mode {and is not totally bricked }.
The only thing u can do is find a flashable sbf.
Few things to try:
Update RSD Lite to 5.6 here, it's the one I always use on my MS2
Make sure you are using the Brazilian Retail 2.3.6 SBF from here( direct link ), download it again just to be sure
Extract it using 7-zip (or WinRAR or anything else, although I think 7-zip is more reliable... personal opinion)
Just turn the phone on the "Bootloader" screen (the black screen with some white text on it) nad flash the SBF again using RSDLite.
IF you are still stuck on the red M logo, where it is throwing some "sonic waves" around (bootanimation screen), and RSD Lite is telling you to "Please manually power up this phone." even after many minutes, you need to turn off your phone (remove the battery) and turn it on again but this time holding the X button, you should see the "exclamation mark" screen (if not, try again) in which you can press @ (multiple times if needed) until you get to a "Android system recovery" screen, now using the volume down key go to "wipe data/factory reset", confirm using the power button, after a while it finishes and then "reboot system now"
After this, wait until you get to "Bem-vindo(a) ao MOTOBLUR" white screen and you're good to go!
Let us know how it goes!

Sorry , my english is stupid
Hi,
Had the same issue and resolved it to a point on this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25450062#post25450062
One thing make sure your battery is charged as if not the the side light will be on but you will get no further and it wont charge through the charge cable you will need a separate battery charger.
Also you may not see the boot loader message but it RSD Lite sees your phone then you have a good chance of flashing it.
Friends, first thanks for all information.
I tried all the tips offered here and I haven't well succeeded yet.
I recorded a video and put it on youtube so you can see more clearly what happens when I try to use the RDS on my phone.
The video is here (please forgive me for my bad English):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GK_0mWc0VU
Thanks again!
Just watched your video, and in fact it really seems something related to the bootloader... I mean, even after flashing a retail SBF the phone just won't leave the very first boot screen (with the static red M logo)...
Anyway, the main difference between our phones is that my bootloader is still on 70.12 version, but I could not find it anywhere, only 70.13, so maybe you could try flashing the 70.13 version again?? I have attached the zip file on this post with the sbf file for it, but please have in mind that I never flashed it myself
Wipe data from Android stock recovery after flashing the firmware that you were on (I suppose it would be some GB stock ROM) and you should be good to go.
You can't get your data back.
If the bottoloader method shown deson't work:
Power the phone while holding 'volume -' and the camera shutter button. It'll open bootloader mode. Now just connect your phone to the pc and flash using the latest version of rsd lite.

I've tried with this version, without sucess...
So, I try to pull off my chip and my memory card, and: WORKS.
I think the bootloader 70.13 doesn't accept 8Gb memory cards (I've tested my card in another phone and it works and in my phone just works less than 4Gb memory cards).
Now I have another problem: My status bar disapear few moments after turns my phone on (I've tested the Rom 2.3.6 from Tim and Retail, and tested the Super Status Bar, all with the same error). But this is for a new threat...
Thanks everybody!

Another .sbf
The procedure paulofoca provided worked with my uncle's Milestone 2, but the .sbf file is from sbf.droid-devs.org (the bigger one of the two British retail .sbf files).
I can not give you a link for being a new user of this forum.

- You need Odin program before starting.
1. Remove the battery, external SD card and SIM card.
2. Wait 10 seconds.
3. Open odin3
4. Insert battery.
5. Connect usb cable.
6. HOLD VOL+ and VOL- while plugging in USB
Got download screen and flashed with ODIN..
Let ODin finish.
*** This program recovered my dead phone with no power, nothing shows up on my screen. - Dead and also a stuck boot up screen.
I saw another post that has the similar set of instructions 6. HOLD VOL+ and VOL- and then press the power button. Nothing happens.
I am curious how people this post has helped. Can you respond when you these directions gets your phone up. Thank you.
this is cOLD. and has been posted numerous times.
A.K.A. Check [STOCK] Odin 1 click. and this does not recover from a completely dead phone that doesn't have button combo to download mode.
I thought that was what we all did to get into d/l
Some tools developer or reseller said that the phone is bricked,

Jtag is usefull for empty or totally corrupted ROM recovery.
But if you see this, your phone is FAR from brick !
Just press the keys, bring it back to download mode
Then plug to cable and flash a working firmware again.
No special tools is needed,
No need to waste time and money send for repair,
Don't waste your good phone and don't break it for jtag.

Are you seeing the Phone-!-PC symbol? I was in a situation where my phone wouldn't accept the the up/down key press to enter download mode. I ended up having to make a jig which basically will force the phone into download mode. You can search the forums on how to make one.

not work so far...
This is what most people always do to enter dl mode.
However, many phones shipped without the button combos needed for it to work. In that case it is possible to make a USB jig to trigger download mode manually. see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551

I have the same problem but I cannot get it to download mode. My phone is completely dead no power no sign of life. The only thing I notice is when i put the battery into the phone for about 15 minutes the phone is getting hot so I don't know if this is a common problem for bricked phone.

I had the exact same "phone - ! - PC" brick screen and vol up + vol down + power only took me to "unknown upload mode". I eventually figured out by myself that holding ONLY vol down + power for 10 sec is what takes you to download mode from that particular screen.
Summary: Anyone who's getting "Phone--!--PC" and the three-button combo takes you to "unknown upload mode", try holding vol down + power for 10 seconds.

Hi together,
Cause i don't know that the DROID2 and the MILESTONE2 are different phones, i tried to install the following:

I tried:
You must have root. You can download our 1 Click root HERE.
You must have Koush's Bootstrap program for your device. Download from Market or check HERE.
... after this, my MILESTONE2 is no more working - its in a kind of Boot-Loop. I turn it on, then the Motorola-Logo shows up after about 1 min it reboots and shows Logo again etc..
I also tried to flash-back with RDS Lite a current Version for my MILESTONE2 from here:

... but don't helps ! Flash works okay, but after flash still a Boot-Loop.
==> Please, can somebody help me ? What can i do ?

You might have gone 80% of the way. You just need to hold X while booting up and it'll take you to a system menu thingy. Clear the cache and then do a factory reset. See if that helps.
Thanks for your answer.
If i push the "x" on the keyboard during boot up nothing happens. I see no other Boot-Menu ...
Any other idea ?

You may try to do a battery pull. Then insert the battery, hold 'X' while powering up, and keep holding 'X' until a screen comes up with a triangle with an exclamation point, and a little android dude. If you get to that screen, push the seach button (magnifying glass) on the keyboard, and now your in the stock bootloader. Then clear the data and clear the cache. If you have done those exact steps, then you may try holding the up arrow while powering on (obviously from an off state) which will put you in bootstrap mode, and from there you should be able to SBF.
Hi again,
Thanks for your answer. I can try what i want, no chance to get in stock bootloader-mode. I push power-button and the "x" on the keyboard, keep pressing "x" ... make battery-pull etc.
Please, any other idea ?

MIKE

==> As i wrote in my first post, i already SBF the phone several times.

My oppologies. Looking at the SBF files, are you certain you got the one for your phones area? I see theres one for the UK, and two for DE, AT, CH. Assuming its the one for DE, AT, CH, did you try both files?
Two last things, while SBF is running in RSD lite, it says PASS? And never a fail during the process? Secondly, what version of RSD lite are you running? I think 4.9 is the latest, and I remember seeing somethings required newer then 4.7 (If I recall offhand, it was the 2.3.2 sbf for droid 2)
1) ... no, i only tested with the one for my country "DE,AT,CH" - i flashed several times.
2) RDS Lite flashed the phone correctly. Then it rebooted the phone ... then it shows a message like "boot your phone manualy" - and it always runs in boot-loop again. So not really passed, but correctly flashed.
3) RDS Lite Version 4.9
Regards,
MIKE
Try the other file associated with DE, AT, CH. Also, some of the oddities of RSDlite, put the SBF file on your C:\ root directory Let me know how you make out.
Hi again,
I tried again with different SBF's (the one that are working ...) - no chance.
I also tried option Clear Flash before flashing (TI flash ...) - no chance.
==> Always the same sh.. reboot, then Boot-Loop.
MIKE
Have you already tried to do a wipe data&cache from recovery? ( after the flash with rsd lite, i mean )
Last thing that I know to try, have you tried putting the sbf file, in the root directory? (C:\)
Try flashing in linux maybe with the same SBF(not D2 sbf's I mean)?
It sounds like you might not have stock recovery anymore which is a problem.
Hi
Go in bootstrap recovery, make a full wie of tour data! Wie:factoryreset and then flashing the sbf file .....
Try to wipe the Phone ............
The sbf files for Milestone working!

Hi Everyone,
I seem to have "bricked' my Defy!
My intention was to put CM10 Android 4.1.2 for the Defy ROM on, and everything seemed to work during the installation, however now the phone won't boot past the "Motorola Symbol", or the "little Android Man with the triangle and exclamation mark (floating above him!)" - depending on whether or not I try to enter the boot menu.
These are the steps that I followed -
1). Rooted with SuperOneClick
2). Installed bootmenu & the ClockWorkMod recovery (using the second half of this page for instructions)
3). Flashed froyo (kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed.zip)
4). Wiped data / factory reset + wiped cache parttion
5). Installed ROM from zip file (on the SD card)
The mistake that I think I made was not rebooting enough between the steps, e.g.: flashing froyo, wiping, installing ROM, etc. I probably should have rebooted between every step above (the wisdom of retrospect!!!).
At any rate I cannot boot the phone into bootmenu / clockworkmod, instead I just get the little android guy, with the hovering exclamation mark contained within an ominous triangle! There are no options on the screen, and physically pressing the volume up / down, and / or power button has no effect.
Suggestions on how to get clockworkmod back are highly sort after.
Kind Regards,
Davo
Do it correctly from the begining:
start RDSlite and choose appropriate sbf.-> power off the phone -> press vol up and power for 3 sec. ->release power ->attach USB cable and wait till connect ->flash sbf ->with superoneclick do the root ->copy the ROM+gapps+(optional) custom kernel to sdcard -> install 2ndinitdefy v2.3 apk-> reboot ->run 2init -> reboot in bootmenu (or press vol- when blue LED) -> from custom recovery wipe data/cache, wipe dalvik(from advanced) ->install ROM and gapps +(optional custom )kernel in that order ->wipe again cache and dalvik ->reboot ->enjoy

I have successfully flashed sbf using RSD Lite, however now my phone won't boot at all. I can't get it to power up, the light won't even come on unfortunately. If I plug the phone into a power outlet and push the power button a white light comes on, but otherwise nothing.
I think that I may have truly bricked it this time! Any further help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

You can't brick defy so easy. Pull out the battery and put it back with the vol- pressed. If nothing appear keep press the vol- button and press the power for 3-5 sec. depress power and keep press vol- until the boot menu (defy recovery) appear. From there do a wipe of data/cache and dalvik and reboot.
If unluckly nothing happen in 2-3 minute then do another flash of sbf (attention of which sbf you use!!).
Thanks again - unfortunately the only screen that I get up when pressing the various volume button / power button combinations is one with a little green "android man", above him is floating an ominous triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle! ~
Got there in the end...
Hi pgreed,
Thanks for all of your help, I got there in the end, wherever there is...! LOL
At any rate your instructions are the ones that I will follow in future, and I won't be bothering with ADB or typing any commands at a command prompt.
Ultimately I had to try a couple of different sbf files before coming across one that would play nice.
To enter the recovery menu I had to press both the up / down volume buttons, and the power button all at once, but I suspect that this was due to the specific sbf file that I installed.
Anyway all said and done I now have a Defy with CM10 and gapps for Jellybean. Was it all worth it, highly debatable - but I am passing the phone onto a friend, so hopefully he will enjoy it more than his current old school phone.
I will continue to stick with my HTC Sensation, which in my mind is a pretty hard phone to beat!
Kind Regards,
Davo
Nice to see that you manage to do it. Just the record: when you have those android robot with triangle if you've pressed both vol + and - the recovery menu has to appear.
Yes, the ADB method is correct, but is more prone to give headache.
So today i discovered that my month old Nexus 4 did not want to boot again.
Last night the phone was off, so i assumed the battery was dead, after putting it in the charger and asking it to boot i went to sleep.
when i woke up i was still looking at the multicoloured pulsating X.
since then it keeps getting stuck at the X screen, powering it down will make the phone power up again for no reason.
The phone was running a OTA version of 4.2.2
When powering it on with ON & vol - I get the boot menu, though navigating to the recovery mode resulted in a "No command." line with a red triangle on a android.
Currently i have no experience with either rooting/flashing, neither am i aware if this is the only option to fix this semi bricked phone.
How would i best go about fixing this issue?
Thanks.

Try to get in bootloader mode then go to recovery and wipe cache /do a data factory reset and reboot.
Okay. Get back into recovery by holding Vol-/pow.
Then scroll to recovery.
When in recovery reveal the menu by pressing vol+/pow
Once there wipe data and reset cache.

Tried that at the recovery screen but nothing responded.
also tried vol+- and +- and vol- no response from any combinations.
ah i got it to appear, it turns out that pressing the power button first instead of the volume button was an issue...
also if i do the wipedata+reset will i lose all 16 gb's of onboard storage?
and would there be a way to write/backup that data before doing so?
Here is googles support page for reset: http://support.google.com/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2936226
follow these steps:
If your phone is on, power it off.
Press and hold Volume Down, and then press Power until the device turns on (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
Note: If at any point during the above steps your phone becomes unresponsive, you can restart it by holding down the power button for several seconds.
hepatiit i got that to work, though what i am wondering is, will this erase all 16GB's of onboard data?

Yes.
Would there be a way to backup all data over USB, from the recovery menu?
I have my photos and agenda automatically backed up, but im not sure about my contacts or installed apps.

Contacts are backed up to the google servers. (can check them through GMail). Apps are also backed up to play.google.com... Note, sometimes the data isn't backed up though. Just what you've installed.
I believe a factory reset will NOT erase SDCard though. I could be wrong.
I'd say your out of luck on getting the data off. You can through recovery and ADB I think. I tried searching for the commands but I couldn't find them.

ahw shucks, the Nexus doesnt have any extended storage, it just has 16GB onboard storage, though im not sure if that is somehow a seperate entity or joined in, i looked into ADB but it requires you to have usb debugging set in advance from android.
aaaaaand now i get to also replay all the games since those savegames are gone too.... good times...
And then my phone got bricked....
after it completed the wipe i inserted the SIM card (it was in another phone)
after that the phone turned off, but now it wont respond to the power button....
now what.....
After applying some USB (charger) power and holding the on switch for a long time it finally woke up.
Now i have a blanco phone again.
Thanks for the support anyways
I had the same exact issue with my Nexus 4. When I flashed the stock image it got stuck on the X. I flashed a custom recovery and erased chase and data and it worked just fine.
I'm not sure why this is "necessary" step now when I didn't have to do do this with my Gnex but oh well.

Hello,
Thank you for helping me .
I'm sorry if my English is very bad, but I'm French.
My phone is stuck at " your device is booting now ". Then, he made a bootloop... And he don't start. I've made the b328 update for nougat with EMUI 5.0 ( Beta ). And, I wanted to return to marshmallow. Then, I've flashed the rom via the bootloader ( system.img, cust.img, boot.img, ect... ). And, when I restarted my p9 lite, he was stuck on " your device is booting now ". And that's how I'm stuck, because I can't do anything. I can't go to the recovery. And I can't go to the bootloader. I'm very stuck.
And, again, I'm sorry if my English is very bad.
Thank you !

the method to fix this is to create a folder on the root of the sd card called DLOAD then put the stock huawei uppdate.app in the folder then shut down and hold volume up, down and the power button at the same time and it will flash the stock firmware, then shut down and boot recovery then wipe user data, next cache then davlik cache then, reebot and give it time to boot.

Hmmm.. it looks like it's trying to boot into recovery, but, probably it's a corrupted recovery: when you flash a corrupted recovery and it tries to boot into it, it'll be stuck in "Your phone is booting up etc...". I experienced that about a week ago but to get my phone working again, i just copied b161 in my external sdcard in the folder "dload". Then i inserted the ext sd in my phone and i held Power Button for about 10 seconds and my phone shut down. Then i held Power Button + Vol Up + Vol Down and popped up the update screen. That's how i managed my phone to get it work again, hope this helps you

That's really unusual... When you're stuck in that screen, there aren't a lot of ways to power off. The ways i know are hold Power Button or wait till the battery is fully discharged. By the way, you said that you tried discharging, but what happened when you connected the charging cable? Did the phone showed the boot logo (huawei, not the animated one) and then the triple choice menu?

Try to discharge it again, then right when you connect it to the charger, before the huawei's logo, instantly hold Power Button + Vol Up.
Nothing about pressing buttons does not work. whether it is possible to do something without key volume up Volume Down. because it not only does not help returns the same picture I tried 100 times

I think that maybe there's an internal problem with the buttons, because if there is an issue with the motherboard , it wouldn't even show you the screen where you're stuck (i'm not sure at all about it because i'm not an expert in theese things). How old is your phone? Maybe there's just some oxide under the buttons.
same thing happens to me phone is a week old - after i connect the charger after the battery drain i can go to software, but no keyboard present and cannot factory data rest. Discharging now again and will try to power up with the button combination.

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I have the same problem now.
I tried flashing the latest twrp recovery from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/development/twrp-t3588356
After it finished installing (fastboot didn't give me any Errors) my phone rebooted to the same screen you posted.
My phone keeps rebooting to the same screen no matter what button combinations I press. I also can't turn it off. Keeps rebooting. I'm now waiting for it to fully discharge (it was at 100%) and I will try to get it to boot into the three options menu.
I was trying to update my P9lite (currently VNS-L23C605B120) to Nougat VNS-L23C605B364 (latest found with HuaweiFirmwareFinder).

You have to take the revolution recovery, because the TWRP Is made for Marshmallow, and if you flash a recovery made for Marshmallow in Nougat, the phone will not load correctly the files and will get stuck on this screen.
So you have to flash the Revolution recovery for the P9 Lite and flash it via Fastboot. You can find it here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...ecovery-twrp-3-0-2-android-nougat-03-t3511937. Once flashed via bootloader, boot into this revolution recovery ( It's like TWRP, just different design ). And then, flash the ROM that you want.
