[Q] Copy huge files [PC > USB] - Acer Iconia A500

Hello everyone!
I'm using Windows 7 [64 bits] and I wanted to know if someone has found a solution in order to copy huges files (2 gb video files for example) via USB to the Iconia Tab A500?
In fact Explorer.exe is always crashing during the copy (or in the beginning of it)
I don't have any Wifi at home at the moment, so I can't copy via Wifi thanks to File Expert for example.
If you have an idea, please share it, seams strange that it looks impossible to do it.
Thanks!

Copy the files to a flash drive and plug flash dive into tablet?

Thanks for your response.
Yes that's a solution, but there's no faster solution? Where's the problem with Explorer.exe crashing?

I have Win7 x64 and I have never had that problem. Sorry...
ummm, have you tried a different cable? Or come to that, a different USB port on your computer?

Use android commander. It works great

Does your tablet show up under device manager in the control panel? Or under admin panel -> storage? Might be a conflicting letter the drive is trying to grab with one thats already used. If u see tablet in storage in the admin panel -> control panel. Try changing the letter assigned to it.

Sounds like a driver issue. Try uninstalling all the USB drivers for the Acer, then download and reinstall the latest drivers.

[Q] Problem Android-HD2 to my PC

Hello,
when I connect my hd2 with the Froyo 2.1 from the 18.08. to my computer via USB, then my Win XP ask for an "Leo" hardware driver. Same problem on a second PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.
How can I copy files from the computer to android?

Thank you that works. The PC asks still for the "Leo" hardware driver, but there was another new hardware found, which has installed the Volume from the hd2. Now I can access the sd card from the PC.
What is the "Leo" hardware?

Not quite sure what the "Leo"hardware is, might be ROM specific, especially if you are using a stock ROM
Try to download google sdk USB driver for Windows..
When Windows find new hd, check the ini file of these drivers.
Needs for adb, maybe?

Connect to PC via USB

Yesterday I was able to connect my Tab to my Win XP PC using the USB cable. I was able to transfer files without difficulty. But, some how I must have changed a setting on the Tab and the Tab is no longer recognized by any of my PC's. I think it is a Sync setting that was changed.
Now, when I connect using the USB cable, the PC says " Found New Hardware MTP"
What settiing do I need to change to get the PC to recognize the Tab?
Check under application > development > usb debugging.
Thanks, I found a USB driver on the Acer site. That seems to have solved the problem. But, that driver was not needed yesteray, and I don't know what "MTP" means?

Even my Windows 7 boxes do not recognize the a500 without installing the USB driver from the Acer site. Guess you somehow got lucky
Mine always saw the internal 16gb on my Win7 machine. Before the latest updates, I was able to connect with my Win7 PC with no problem and even go to STORAGES and see my 32gb card. It no longer works now. All I see now is SD which is empty.
Which means I cannot copy anything directly to the Micro SD (external_sd). It worked before the last couple of updates. I'm currently running 4.010.10. Now I have to copy it to the 16 internal from the PC and then use the tablet to copy it to the external_sd.
Acer giveth and taketh away.... bummer.
Edit: And yes ... my debugging is on. Always has been. Stock kernel too.
Anyone figure this out yet?
I can't connect on my Win7-64 PC at all.
My 32 bit laptop will connect, but not to SD card, only internal SD.
Try turning development off when using usb go pc which no need for driver, if development is on then you need driver installed.

i can't get my tab to connect to my mac , ive tried both usb ports, ive tried ticking usb-debugging on and off with no luck. Anyone know whats wrong?
If you are having usb issues go to acers web site and go to the drivers and download section for the iconia a500. make sure you look under the honeycomb 3.0 downloads and not the 3.1. as the drivers are not listed under 3.1. download the drivers to your pc (not your tablet)and install. it is an 89 megabyte file so I am sure it has the drivers for everyone in it.
Alos if you are ojn honeycomb 3.0 make sure you get the wi-fi unpate as well while you are there it fixes lots of wi-fi problems.
Remember to thanks if I have helped you.
Thanks for the quick reply in the drivers package There is none for mac and on my fascinate it connects without problem and i never instaled any drivers
Chuban7, Hi well I am not a mac person but I did look around the net a bit and from what I see there are not usb drivers persay for android for mac. but what i have found is there are several companies who mac sync software that connects android to mac. One site to check out is http://www.salling.com/MediaSync/mac/ they have free versions of thier software to use. Give it a try. but there are many other venders of mac to android sync software. seems only way from what I read cant find usb drivers anywhere for ya for any android device.
You can also look through the android market for a free program called"auto mount your sd card" supose to work with mac but I dont know as I dont have a mac
MY personal choice is a program also free on market called "software data cable" again suppose to work with macs and pc's it is completely wireless so no usb cable needed to transfere files so in theory then no usb drivers needed either.
You can also use a program called dropbox allso free it works great just drop files into the dropbox folder and then once they upload go open dropbox on your android and bingo there ya go thier is your files. works in reverse too for android to computer.
Only thing I can figure is that apple hates android and between them and microsoft are tring to run android into the ground so it would stand to reason if you hated a compeating vendor why would you make it easy for them to run thier devices on your software. There is a reason apples Ipod/pad stuff works and others dont apple dont want you to buy android lol.
Just my little conspericy theory stuff good luck hope any of this helps you.
I have the same issue with Linux so it's not a Mac issue. I can plug my Android phone in and it mounts and show up as a USB device that I can then take a file manager and copy/paste/delete files. I use this all the time to transfer files to my phones sd card. Neither the A100 or the A500 will mount as a drive on my Linux machine. I like them but that is pretty much a deal breaker to me.

Somehow I feel very doubtful that your Linux OS cannot be set up to mount the a500 as a USB storage device. My Linux skills are rather rusty and outdated, however - so I could be wrong. Can you emulate a stripped down version of windows from your Linux system to get around this?
I can vouch for using software data cable (free app from AM).
Works perfectly with my iMac and should do with PC, since it essentially opens an FTP port on the Iconia (port 8888 by default) that can be accessed by any FTP client on the computer (I use Cyberduck on Mac, FireFTP plugin for Firefox works on all OS's).
If you are rooted, check root access in the app settings to get into the root, and find /mnt/external_SD for the add-on card. It is probably smartest not to leave the root access on all of the time unless you really need it as there is abundant opportunity to create havoc accidentally

I didn't say it couldn't be done, I just think that it's strange and wrong to make an Android device dependent on having Windows. Yes I suppose I could install Windows in a Vm but I won't.
Using Google (pun intended) I found a fairly simple solution. It's not plug-n-play but is very doable even by an non techie.
There are also some ways of access the Tab file system using a browser and Wifi

Nice app thanks, didn't show up when searching for FTP servers. ;(
The only minor issue I see is that at 1st glance it appears that you don't have access to the external_sd card unless Rooted.
Did work better than any of the other FTP servers I have tried.

[Q] How do you transfer files from PC in r169?

I new about DroidExplorer, but it`s not a solution for me. First of all it don`t works on my Win7. And the main thing, is that i use my phone as storage, to transfer files between different computers. It`s not usefull, I can`t install DroidExplorer on all of them...
So, folks, tell me pleace, how do you solve this problem (maybe some mount widget or some other trick)?
Thanks!!!
Find HTC Sync from the official HTC Site (just google it).
It worked for me!
EDIT: Also i heard about "MyPhoneExplorer" but I did not try it yet.

Before I installed HTC Sync, i think that - When i connected my phone to PC, i found somewhere the option to show as a Hard Disk (or removable disk w/e)
I selected that and worked fine! (i did not transered anything but i am 100% that happened)
DroidExplorer, MyPhoneExplorer and QtADB runs fine on Win7.
I also use Wifi to transfer files.
Does anybody tried "Multi Mount SD-Card" or "Dual Mount SD"? I found some advices about this apps on HD2 Android forum... Maybe it will work for us?
How do I use the Phone's Storage Card as a Disk Drive?
Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable. Open the Notifications panel. In the Notifications panel, touch “Select to change USB Connection Type” and change it to Disk Drive.

Oh great, so simple!!! Dude, i made it! For several times, with every releace, and it don`t works! And it seems, I am not the one...
Be careful, this way works sometimes but usually the files you have copied to SD won't show in Android when you mount back your card, and will be converted to temporary LOST.DIR files. So the best way to copy files is from WM or transfer them with Wifi
LOL, mine is working correctly also DroidExplorer and MyPhoneExplorer, I think the problem can be with OS and Phone drivers Compatibility on your komputer ?

ICS USB drivers?

Hello all,
I posted a thread yesterday about my issues trying to get my a500 running AOKP to connect to my computer. So, as it is right now, it's got nothing on it, except for a few apps.
I have narrowed it down to the possibility that it is NOT ROM-specific and that it has something to do with USB drivers. I installed the drivers from the Acer US and UK websites, along with the setup.exe drivers from TimmyDean's root folder. None of them worked.
I tried on two different computer, and got the same issues. All I hear is 3 quick beeps after the computer fails to install device driver software.
My question is this: To those of you who are on an ICS ROM/Leak, HOW do you access your SD Card/Internal Storage on your PC?
I really hope somebody could help, I'm pretty stumped.

I already have the SDK installed from a whole ago, and I have used ADB recently for my phone, so I guess I should have the updates drivers correct? So I should just go through the device manager and let Win7 search through my C:/ drive? What will it be picking up, the ADB drivers?

I had google android drivers, Acer drivers, probably 4 different sets. I believe the last I used, were HTC adb drivers. Got pretty frustrated as I couldn't connect 501 with adb. But After I did the full scan on c: drive, it finally picked them up.
It doesn't matter which drivers get used, as long as it works
"Throw enough bullets at the target, and eventually you will hit it"
have you tried going into device manager .Then plug in the Iconia tab once its recognized .Right lick on the device and install the drivers manually. You must know where the drives are extracted to on your computer to do this. Also Not with my acer tab but i have had a issue in the past with usb device drivers .They can sometimes be confused by windows and windows will load driver for the other device and of course fail. So to get around this you can try making sure your phone is connected to the usb port you always use. Then try to plug the iconia into another port. and see If windows will prompt you to install the device.
If still no luck do a search on microsoft tech site.If you can not find it this can also be done by uninstalling all usb devices on the computer in programs and features. Then go to device manager and manually uninstall the usb hubs and devices listed in there. Reboot the computer and windows will put them back.Re install the drives from acer for the iconia reboot. then connect it and see if it will then find the device.
The above is for tech savy users only due to if there is a registry issue the hubs might not install back .
Good luck. and again if you cant follow what i typed above Microsoft tech help has it in step by step instructions. just search for usb device driver install issues and narrow down your issue.
Thank you to BOTH of you! I was getting frustrated that I can't do anything with my tablet! I will definitely try both of these when I get home.
@Erica: I went into Device Manager and it did not recognize my tablet, so I tried to install drivers from Windows Update, and it didn't find any.
@Moscow: HTC USB drivers will work? Really? I don't see why not, but then again, each website has you go through different steps to get your model number, etc.
What I am wondering is, for the scan if the C:/ drive, do I extract only the .exe for the USB drivers?

Generally, the zip file contains driver files for AMD64 and i386. Just extract them to a location on your C: drive. Like C:\android\adb_drivers. Once you extract the driver files, or any other driver files, and you have windows search your computer, it will usually find them, and install them. Takes a couple minutes.
I find this is easier than trying to have windows look in a specific folder. Like I said, I have tons of driver files.
Also, google for Android USB drivers. Will give you the generic Android USB driver pack. Unzip them also, to a diff folder.

When you say it does not recognize your tablet. Are you saying that when you plug the tablet into the computer thru usb You do not get a prompt to install a Driver? If this is the case Windows thinks it has the proper driver. You will have to find the device in device manager . OPEN it and update driver. You can try to have windows to search . but i disagree with MD on this. But both ways tend to have the same results .TELL it where your drives are such as mine are in c:/android/androidsdk/ xxx
You could also try to install Acer sync from the acer iconia d/laod site If you do this i would change the install path to a sub folder of your sdk install. could be useful in future.

Quick update.
I tried both of your theories, and neither of them worked
I tried to find the ADB drivers, but couldn't get them to install through SDK Manager (file not found on an XML file).
So then, I took two of the drivers I had downloaded, and extracted the folders they were in, into a folder on C:\ called android drivers.
I tried searching my entire C:\ and nothing came up at all. This is where I tried Erica's method, and I narrowed it down to the C:\android drivers and it STILL didn't bring anything up.
Finally, I tried downloading and placing these (http://androidforums.com/incredible...ivers-adb-bootloader-disk-drive-htc-sync.html) drivers, and it still didn't find them.
Oh, and I also tried plugging my phone into the troublesome port and it connected fine, as per Erica's suggestion, so I think this is some kind of driver issue.. but WHAT!
Thanks for all of your help so far!
EDIT: Here is the icon I am getting when I plug my tablet into my computer: http://i.imgur.com/jUf54.jpg
Not sure you tried this or not.
Go to Acer.com then there download drivers page. look. for Acer sync. Download and install that. it just might install the Acer adb drivers
Beyond that I say go to Ms tech site and search for USB host/driver issues.
Sorry its not working but at this point I have no idea without being infront of the machine.
Good luck

Yeah, that's the last of my guesses, and it was the last sets of drivers I installed on my Win7 before I got ADB working. I had issues connecting ADB, and may have just installed the HTC divers, just to connect with my Desire. I think after that, I installed the google drives, and could connect with my 501.
I could always get the PC to recognize the tab, just not through ADB.
With that AOKP rom though, I am not sure. I had it for a bit, but reflashed back to my 3.2.1 daily driver. Not sure if I could see it through PC, as I don't think I checked. Waste of time I think, as basically, it was 80% Thor Rom, and we all know it doesn't get 3g or gps on a 501.

I can't get it to recognize through ADB either. I'd love to try another ICS ROM, but I have to go through Dropbox and it gave me a smaller file name, so it isn't as safe. Might try to download through my a500.
I do have a Nandroid of 3.2.1, bit I doubt that could fix my issues.

When you say that it's not connecting, could you specify in which mode? E.g. USB Flasher in MAGLDR, USB Mass Storage in Android, USB Mass Storage in MAGLDR, bootloader etc.
it will not connect when im at my home screen. i have turned off usb debugging on the phone. im not sure wat mode its in when im just at the home screen sorry.
thanks josh
extract it in your dektop.
Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port.
Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.
Select Devices in the left pane.
Locate and expand Other device in the right pane.
Right-click the device name (such as HTC HD2) and select Update Driver Software. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.
Select Browse my computer for driver software and click Next.
Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (Google USB Driver, we have already extracted it )
Click Next to install the driver.

Well still check if it connects in USB Flasher mode in MAGLDR. If it does, then you should be all set to flash a newer version of Android. Just follow this guide. Before doing so, download the ROM directly on to your phone's SD from the browser and move the ROM to the root of the SD card. Also make sure to make a full backup of your ROM in CWM and of your data in Titanium Backup. On the guide you should probably skip the step which involves partitioning the SD card with an SD-EXT as this will delete the contents of your SD card.

...What? This makes no sense.
I also have this problem: after connecting android 4.1.2 to windows 7 x64 pc - nothing happends. I tried installing 4 different roms (all released in december 2012), but if I remember correctly my previous android (4.0.4) and the one before (2.something) had the same problem. I also tried 4 defrent pc.
I installed Google USB Drivers in Android SDK Manager but couldn't add them to unknown devise (it said that there are no drivers in the 'usb_drivers' folder. Also tried drivers mentioned in this thread but with the same result.
Tried turning off and on USB Debuging and plenty other options as suggested in posts I found. I also don't have any option to chose while connecting android via USB cable (only turning USB storage on and off - while on pc does see it, but only as an SD card).
Thank you for your answer,
Paul

Unfortunately, if I am correct, this thread solved problems during the installation. This went just fine. Pc detects phone before without loaded rom just fine. But thanks anyway.
