Hello.
Yesterday I tried to compile MiniCM from source, but I did not succeed.
However I compiled a vanilla Cyanogenmod from source (Github), so if someone here is brave and knows what they are doing they can try it. I use a kernel based on Alfsamsungs sources, and CM boots up and works here.
(no wifi cause my custom kernel, had to overwrite with my own modules to get it working)
I have not tested it much but I think MiniCM is a better choice.
NB: No need to post question or bugs, Im not a developer, I only compiled it.

What did u use to compile it ? Linux mint or ubuntu ? And did you try with nAa11 instead of your own compiled kernel ??

I used Ubuntu 10.04, no did not try with other kernels. But the CM is not for alfs kernel (it has an kernel.sin inside the zip file), so my guess is that it also works with other kernels, like nAn11.

[REQ] Froyo with some custom Kernel.. (alfs 4 example) ??

Ok, I just realized (again, and until the next time) that Froyo Pro is the best choice for me..
But I will miss custom kernel.. I tried Alfs once, and it was all right but WiFi was not working at all. Copying Wifi libs from GDX didn't help
Can someone re-make Alfs kernel to make it work on FroyoPro? (some ramdisk changes and wifi fix)
I would be grateful... and I'm sure many others..
+1

It could be done but kernel should be made from cm6 core.because all kernels for x8 are made from cm7(gingerbread) core.like alfs, gdx, fxp kernel,nAa...so it would be hard, because fxp gave sources only for cm7 kernel, and most of our kernels are based on fxp kernel source.

nice. ....
Its preety easy.We just need to compile kernel from se source and everything should work even on eclair.
I will try and report.

oh god im waiting for Custom Kernel on Froyo sooooooooo much
and also if im on gingerbead and for example Alfs kernel when im by clockwork install custom zip with froyo i need to change kernel to stock right?
yeap, i love froyo pro and i also love alf's kernel, especially it's OC, i get by far the best results with it, fully stable 787 mhz with smartass v2 i just wish i could combine the 2.
yes yes yes +1 for a kernel for froyo
if we compile those kernels with the same Ramdisk that we have in Stock kernel, probably it should work better in Eclair and Froyo roms, right?
flash this in cwm and you will have working alfs + wifi on froyo pro

Is this confirmed to work? TIA

How's the performance of CM9 on Defy?

Hello I have a Defy MB525 and I'd like to give it an upgrade and since there's no official Android releases above 2.2 I'm thinking about installing CM) which is 4.0 based right? I'd like to know how's the performance? does it become slower or how many bugs are? would you recommended it? thanks in advanced, it looks really good so I'd like to try it!
dear friend, trust me .you'd better use the CM9 latest by quarx's.Now we all taste the JB already
anyway the Quarx's CM series(CM7,CM9.CM10) are very perfect on Defy.
You must to try for it!:good:
for everyday rom, try cm9 by epsylon froyo kernel. I am using it and there's no issue or bug I have encountered (I use my defy as a phone).
What are the major differences between Quarx's and Epsylon ROMS? thanks you both for the info!:good:
there is no difference in both builds, afterall both are ics...
why don't you try both using multiboot and decide yourself.
I will give them a try, both releases can be found on Development section right? any link? thank you!
EDIT: Now that you mention it? how can I use multiboot? could I have stock rom and custom rom?

There is multiboot thread in development section, just go through it and you will find out how.
And yes you can have stock rom as base rom and custom rom as virtual rom as long as you have same kernel for both.( for mb525 its froyo kernel)
Btw the link for multiboot - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364659
Thanks! Do you have by any chance the links for CM9 by Quarx and Epsylon? thank you!

NOT RECOMMENDED. The performance you'd get from a ROM installed to your microSD (that's what multiboot does!) is inferior to having installed in the ROM partition of the phone.

Cm9 by epsylon - http://defy-cm.net/
And by quarx - http://quarx2k.ru/
I will skip the installation of MultiBoot for now, but I will try either Quarx's or Epsylon's ROM, thank you!!

[Q] Changing from CM10 to Danik MS2Ginger 4

I´m currently using CM10 by Tezet, and I have flashed the GB kernel that Tezet put in his post. It all works nice and well, but I wanted to try Danik's MS2Ginger. Does anybody know if it works well without flashing the custom kernel from Danik? Can I just keep my current kernel? If possible, I'd appreciate the opinion of someone who has tried this.
Thanks in advance!
PS: On a side note, my current kernel (CM10) is named: 2.6.32.9- Jellybean, etc, etc. I had the impression that the Linux Kernel for Gingerbread (that is to say, the GB Kernel) was 2.6.35. Why keep the froyo kernel number?

I think you can keep your kernel but you would really benefit from the new one when using Danik's ROM. I haven't tried his ROM though.
CM10 has a thing called "2nd-boot" which allows us to boot custom kernels, from an already running kernel.
2.6.32.9 is the Linux kernel version (which btw, the number doesn't have anyhing to do with the Android version, but newer Android versions work better with newer kernels, that's why there is a WIP 3.0.8 kernel for the Defy). "Jellybean" is just the branch of code. That kernel has the ramdisk and init binaries (I think, kernel experts please correct me) necessary to boot JB.
Motorola has never actually released a kernel newer than that for the MS2, the "official GB kernel" it's an older kernel "built" for GB.
Hope it helps.
Thanks for answering!

So is this a new kernel that is in "testing" and is not released yet? Because doing a search only brought up DiXperia ROM, so guessing DikeJ is working on a kernel, perhaps?
If this kernel is available can you be kind enough to post a link for it?
Edit - scratch that, the only thing I find is an X10 kernel... so going to venture DikeJ is working on porting it to our Xperia PLAY.. as I know he does work on teh X10 as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345327
This says its a JB kernel, but is this a GB kernel as well?
I'm working on this kernel for DikeJ and his set of dixperia ROMs and I don't have any plans to upload it till DikeJ ask me to
edit: there will be a kernel for each android ROM DikeJ Makes this kernel is for dixperia perennial
Will the kernel work on r800x too?

Possibly since its based on Lupus Kernel I should be able to work something out
That's awesome but when it's ready and dike j says you can upload do you think you can make two versions work one of them having als disabled. My phone als is broken so unless Als is disabled at kernel level it won't work. Sorry if it's too much to ask but if you can do that I'll be very grateful

yeah I will you won't get 330 mb free ram though
Hail the King @extremetempz and @DiKeJ who are gonna build awesome Kernel + ROM for the R800x
But if you give the system, kernel etc. 420mbs of ram, there's only about 90mbs for the gpu/3d rendering(?) left. Wouldn't that cause lag in games?

The 90mb RAM is for the Kernel, not for GPU/3D Rendering - That is done using system RAM.
There will be 4 main Kernels from DXEngine:
-2 for X10 (GB and JB)
-2 for Play (GB and ICS/JB)
But it's not over, cause each main project will have other version with other destination - for example with some features disabled, but better in performance etc. etc. Justin (@extremetempz) is main Kernel Developer for my ROM projects so all credits goes to him - I focused on ROMs to make it best stable and settled with Kernels - trust me, it should do the job .

games should actually run smoother because I've doubled the vram 4mb vs 8m
Edit: if anyone can extract lupus v12 ramdisk because it keeps Chucking errors at me please pm me asap as I need to extract to put the WiFi modules in and change a few things
well i have extracted it its using another format for ramdisk(bot the normal gzip)
i dont have the link i used to know how to extract but if you search a bit you will find it
(i dont have the extracted ramdisk because i have deleted my compiler machine from virtualbox)

Awesome. Hey DikeJ I hope you and extremetempz dont me offering to beta test this kernel for you. I am on GB currently debloated stock on Lupus Kernel v12. Would love to test out this kernel if you wanted to have someone test it out. Either way I am excited to see this new kernel whether I beta test it or not.
Thank you both of you for your hard work and efforts to keep our little device humming along.

2.6.36+ kernel

I want to know if there's a 2.6.36 kernel for our device.
I know there is working 2.6.35 which I have built and used on. But I am specifically interested in 2.6.36 or 2.6.37. The reason is I'm tring to add new io schedule and .35 doesn't support row or fias.
I found some 2.6.36 msm7x30 kernels for samsung, but I can't find one for HTC. (even a dhd kernel will be fine.)
Anyone can help me on this?
Btw, I know 4.1 and 4.0 can run on 2.6 kernel. If I want to port a 4.2 rom, how can I make it work on 2.6 instead of a 3.0 kernel?
The rom has to be able to run off of a 2. kernel. I know PAC 15 does.
