[Q] Stock browser whites - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Hi, I was about to buy the 7.7 at the store quem I saw something wierd. When in stock browser, the whites went blueish, but in others apps it was ok. Is this a normal behavior of the browser or just a fault unit?
Ps: I have postponed the device until someone clarifies this to me. This is the best place to ask. So please masters help me.: )

I believe this is due to a settings in the browser to conserve energy, as white tends to drain more power from the screen.
Click on the top right corner -> Color
You should be able to set the color level for power saving. Try setting it to Default, and see if the problem still exist.

Thanks man, I was really worried about that. I am glad it is just a setting.

anyone knows how to disable to full screen when in landscape mode?
i cant seem to use my swiftkey tablet x now, which i was able to with GB.
Thanks!
Mine are not prbs but am yet to see most of the promised features to its full potential, Cant seem to find the new unlock screen features etc .. Just got my phone upgraded and exploring

Does anybody know how to fix this issue?
ICS in Note
After upgrading to ICS via kies,
Battery seems to drain very fast.
Camera hangs up sometimes and other camera related apps like Instagram also but maybe the pic quality is little better.
It seems to crash when some other apps runs too.
Not sure if it was there before but I can pause music and video if I show my palm on the screen.
The screen rotates faster than in GB with a pause at the beginning though.
News fonts are good.
Window animations are good but still dont' know how to stop it since it might be draining battery fast.
Can use Chrome now and it's fast.
I cannot use Mass Storage Mode. I recieve a "Ui stopped to work" error.
I am facing,
1. High android OS usage. Sometime its higher than Brightness, and most of the time its highest usage of batt after brightness. (I read somewhere, it said its calculation errors, but I think its not, cause my battery no longer last that long.)
2. Camera will sometimes fail to operate. I really dunno what is wrong with that.
3. Phone just cant go into deep slp. Its being kept awake by some apps (Which I cant narrow it) Using BetterBatteryStats, I found out its I2_HSIC. (Whats this I2_HSIC ??)
I am using a 5400mAh mugen batt. previously on GB, my usage can last me 24hrs, now it can only last 16hrs or less. I installed lesser apps, and lesser widgets. Disable account sync and google backup. Settings more or less kept the same.
Overnight my batt can reduce by 21%, it never happened before. lol. ICS...

I have a bug I have not seen mentioned.
Occasionally, usually about 1 time per day, My phone display will start to flash, with random green and red colors. The screen I'm on, will flash those colors then star to shake and slide.
It looks like a television station not tuned quite right on an analog antenna (if anybody remembers that!)
I can't reproduce it regularly, but It think it has happened when going from an Application, back to the home screen using the home button.
I am on ICS, Taiwan, stock, not rooted.
Anybyody else seen this?

I faced this issue with stock ICS (rooted) .
I opened the browser to html5test.com , and the screen filled up with lines (similar to a TV noise) . Turning off did not seem to work, so i did a battery pull.
Unable to reproduce the problem so far!

I can get the screen back by just waiting it out. Usually takes about 2 minutes. I sure do wish I knew what was happening, though, so I could confirm no damage was being done.

As far as #2 goes, go to your battery stats and see if "media" is listed. If so, force close it and try again. Seems to work for me. I'm not sure if it is just me or not because I have been playing with settings lately, but the media scanner tends to run wild it seems (also seems to lend to battery drain).
I am just disappointed that they left out some of the nice features of ics like the updated gallery and camera. Seems kind of lazy to me and no wonder things arent working well if they are mix and matching gingerbread and ics rather than going all in and starting development from there. I would definitely go back to using one of the non tw ics roms if it weren't for the sod issues I was having...

1. Poor battery.
2. Sync errors: calendar sync freezes up every once in a while
3. Brightness slider in notification bar gone, tasker can not effect change of brightness anymore, only choice is to keep automatic brightness on, otherwise blinded out in sun.
4. Contacts and phone apps show up in 5s or more to load: need to switch to those ugly dialers, no choice at all

[Q] E-ink bleeding/ghosting in Fast Mode

I installed the OC kernel/fast mode from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906507&page=7
and it works well, but I have a lot of bleeding and ghosting going on. IE. The outline or parts of images stay after I start zooming/panning, basically doing anything. Is there anyway to get rid of the bleeding?
Fast mode does degrade display quality - it's not that good for reading in fast mode, imo - but is helpful for things that redraw the whole screen.
If you just use the overclock and change the governor to performance, the quality of the display isn't affected and you get a performance benefit. I briefly tried locking the cpu at the higher end of the frequency range, which is noticable but I suspect drains the battery more than needed.

For viewing images I use "JustPictures!". For PDF's, 'EzPDF' and 'Ebooka'.
The ghosting is hardly noticeable.
Here is compare of fast mode and no refresh on my nook. fast mode has a high loss of contrast and a lot of ghosting.I preffer no refresh. Program is EBookDroid.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys!
I'll try them out and see if they work.

Always On Display bug/issue after latest Firmware update 09.April.16?

Hey, i updated to the latest firmware that came out today 9. april 2016. Firmware version : G935FXXU1APD1/G935FNEE1APC5/G935FXXU1APD1. My Phone is a Nordic Edition S7E with Carrier Telenor Norway.
after the update everything works like it should except the Always on Display. The AoD works but its always on the lowest brightness... it moves around, shows what i ask etc but it wont get brighter when i go outside or shine something at it, auto brightness works fine on the screen when its on. my question is: does this happen to anyone else? this has to be a software bug within the AoS app or the OS itself :/ cheers
What version does it show in the AOD settings ( About AOD)
Version 1.1.14
I guess its a change, this is the version i have. Im on fw PB6
it seems like it does work tho much slower than before, i think they tweaked the sensitivity on the brightness, because before it changed waaaaaay to easy, now it stays on the right brightness for the area you are in, tho if you go from a dark room to a bright room it takes waaaaaaaaay to long for it to change, and when you take it out of you're pocket it will still be on the lowest brightness for some reason... so AoD is now useless outdoors if its sunny out, ill guess they will change it again since i think they over did it.
it is not a problem it is intended to reduce power uage.

iknow that, but the point of AoD is that you should not need to turn ON your display, now you have to if you are outside, since the update rate it so low on the brightness. for indoor use its awesome tho.

Idk about the brightness, mine bases itself off of lighting around me. As for it moving, that is to save your screen from AMOLED burn in.
I have a real problem with AOD, after the latest T-Mobile April security update, AOD doesn't move and it should to prevent burn in. I currently have it turned off until it's fixed.

i know it has to move the issue is that it takes so long for the brightness to increase/decrease after the update when the light changes in the room/place you are, so when you are outside and take your phone out its on the lowest brightness, so you cant see anything, it takes over 20 sec before it increases the brightness. but why there is so many " latest version" of the AoD is weird if you ask me. it worked before the firmware update tho it increased the brightness to the max much easier before, so it used a lot of battery, i think they tried to fix this but overdid it. that is why i'm asking if its happening to anyone else.

I don't know why they just don't put it in the Galaxy App Store so that all can have the latest version.

Yeah they really should put it in the app store, just like they did with the edge features, but i didnt receive the new updates yet, so im waiting for it
i did a test now, it only changes brightness when the AoD moves for me, i guess that is how it should work, i don't remember how often i did back on the PB4 firmware but it was much more sensitive that is for sure.
latest firmware did break AOD for me too, T-Mobile US. AOD no longer moves. Not sure if I noticed before but waking the screen up now with power or home button, the screen fades in somewhat. It's a very quick fade in but noticeable because it's not instant.
I am seeing some serious problems with the AOD- I even asked for an exchange thinking something was defective. I got my new phone today and it reacts in the exact same way: AOD brightness changes completely at random ie I am not able to see any sort of correlation between how dark/light it is where I am. AOD version is 1.1.06, while the firmware version is PB9.
The other issue I am seeing is with GPS- worst that I have seen until now. I tried it with GMaps and a couple similar apps- the arrow that shows the direction does not move around based on which way the phone is pointing. This was the exact same on the phone that I sent back in exchange for the new one this morning..

Has the latest update enabled displaying all notifications, not only calls and sms messages ? If not, better turn it off and be done with it. It's useless.

Le Max 2 Black Crush Survey

I would be grateful if people could post their results in this topic after following the instructions.
Okay i posted about this before in the small eui topic but i don't think anyone saw it and it's a general issue that affects everyone so i want to bring it to people's attention.
This phone seems to give a lot of black crush. I have used the stock EUI fw and the small eui CFW and both have it. Black crush is where dark regions of images just turn to solid black so that you cannot see anything below a certain darkness - as you can imagine this is a large issue.
Instructions for the test:
Go here: www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php
You should be able to see all of the squares, 1 - 255
However for me, at highest, retina burning brightness, I can only see down to 7 or so and at a comfortable brightness, only 11 or 12. At lowest brightness I can only see as low as 25 or 20!
Report back how far you can see (at different phone brightness levels including minimum) and also please list what firmware you are using. I wonder if this is an EUI issue or a hardware issue.

This is with the screen set to Natural like it should be (the other LE ECO, Vivid etc modes are way over saturated and you actually get colour crush), and even in the other modes it is just like this too.
Because there are these colour modes, i think there must be a way to fix this somehow in eui based fw?
It seems like LE ECO is doing something to mess up the black level and crush all the blacks to make the screen look all contrasty deliberately.
(on a side note, the small eui cfw referred to a change: "Disabled LeEco gamma curve (oversaturation in the daylight)" although i'm not sure exactly the technicalities of it, it didn't seem to help with this issue as on both smalleui and stock x829 it is the same).
One thing i did notice was that on the stock 829 FW, when you first turn the phone on, it DOESN'T have the issue. However when the phone first sleeps it then changes back to the colour mode with the black crush issue (so if it times out to standby or you press the power button etc then you get the problem back).
To me, that seems like the phone is only starting the code the runs the black crush on the first lock screen / standby opportunity.
It wonder if KCAL support could be added to the EUI based CFW? Or if Le Eco's own colour controls (whatever they used to do the colour mode settings) could be user configured. Maybe it is these colour controls that are causing the issue in the first place?
I would be grateful if people could test this and also bring it to the attention of cfw developers (especially eui based).
Thanks

[Guide] All battery saver tips

In this thread I'll write (and add later) all the possible and effective ways to save more battery with this device, which has a pretty disappointing sot and doesn't last all the day. My aim is, though, to try explaining what's going on.
Since this is my very first guide thread expect a lot of changes in a short time.

Make sure your battery isn't dying Tip popularity: ultra Works: probably
All those tips won't really help you if your battery is faulty!
If you're like "I used to have 6 hrs SOT but suddenly I get 2 hrs on a 5 total" (extreme case) then you should directly buy a new battery (possibly the s7 Edge one) and replace it with the help of your friends

Replace your battery with an s7 Edge one Tip popularity: not so much Works: possibly
Just by installing an original S7 Edge battery you're theoretically improving your device's long lasting capacity by 41% (because their size is 2550mAh vs 3600mAh)
Then you'll need to calibrate it. Please refer to this telegram group if you are in need.

Display Related Tips
Decrease Brightness more and more Tip popularity: ultra Works: how not!
You'll understand this more when you'll read the next 2 tips! Decrease your screen's brightness and install an app to go even further. Also, enable auto brightness at minimum. It's ok saving power but it isn't if this means having a black screen

Black Themes Tip popularity: high Works: of course
This device features an AMOLED display.
If you didn't know, this technology gives you true black by shutting down the pixels on your screen!
Given this, you're actually saving power when your device is displaying pure black

Grayscale Display Tip popularity: medium Works: possibly
By setting your device in grayscale mode you're removing colors (wow) and since our device still features that AMOLED technology you're more likely to save power because of darker colors forcing pixels to be almost black.
Don't think you're really shutting down the RGB leds! In fact you're lighting up them all, but with decreased brightness. This won't work well if you use apps with bright/white themes!
It could also save power because of the less data to process(not confirmed)

Disable Always On Display Tip popularity: medium Works: yes Explained by: Nikx97
You can't use AOD for long. That's true and Samsung knew why (other than marketing purposes) when our community asked louly for having it on our device.
Behind that, our display is different from the one mounted on s7.
What's different then?
Our display requires the cpu to be awake everytime, updating the screen or not, because there's no memory this display could use to just keep showing an image. From s7 and later, there's this memory that gets updated by the cpu every minute.
This surely ends up with a huge drain

Reduce your CPU usage
Enable UPSM if you really need it Tip popularity: medium Works: of course
If your phone isn't rooted (I'd ask why are you even here) it will set up for you a black theme and set your device in grayscale mode, while decreasing brightness and disabling most apps. Then is up to you disabling wifi, bluetooth and setting it in airplane mode. I'd rather shut down my phone directly in this particular case

Set up your CPU governors Tip popularity: suggested only by developers Works: Overkill if set properly
First of all for this you'll probably need a good kernel. Not necessarily a battery kernel, a fairly customizable one would fit nicely (If you're using an S7 Edge battery and you're on Android 7.0, feel free to try my kernel, ask for LKernel here).
Here are the best settings from what I've tried so far (I'm going to explain also why)
You'll need to set (perhaps with the aid of Kernel Adiutor or MTweaks) POWERSAVE governor for LITTLE and CONSERVATIVE for BIG.
The aim of this is to force LITTLE to work more than BIG, because it uses less power and it is enough for off screen processes and whatsapp, telegram and also some games (such as 1010 or sudoku or 2048). If you want to go further with this configuration limit your frequencies: the lowest you can to 600/800mhz for LITTLE and the lowest to 1800mhz for BIG.
With this configuration, when LITTLE can't handle some tasks BIG comes in rescue and solves the problem.
Lazily but it does his work and, of course, use less power.
It is advisable going further with kernel adiutor's settings to save more battery. I'm probably going to post my settings file later
