I thought if you rooted the Xoom you could enable the ad hoc wifi. Am I mistaken?
I do not know if this is the case but if my xoom will not connect to ad-hoc then I will have to return it. Love the thing but ad hoc is my only option...hate apple but what are my options? No BT option either
Now it can only tethering in Ad hoc mode, other android devices cannot connect to ad hoc mode wifi without hack.
are both of them the same?
ad hoc network does not required a router, wifi network need a router.
wifi direct
and what about wifi direct does it have a hardware limitations or any wifi certified device can use it
im thinking that this feature is software program or something
maybe wrong maybe right
Edit: here is a link from android developer

How would one enable ad hoc support (to connect to a hotspot on a cell phone) for the NST?
Hello,
I am trying to connect my "rooted" galaxy note 3 to ad hoc networks but the problem is that such ad hoc networks are not detectable by default. In fact, when I use Wifi Analyzer I can see them but when I use the normal scanning menu I cannot.
While googleing, the only proposed solution is to patch the Wpa_supplicant, but I cannot the corresponding one for my note 3!!!
can any one help me please?? What do i have to do in order to be able to connect to ad hoc networks?
I am sorry for my english language
