Now it can only tethering in Ad hoc mode, other android devices cannot connect to ad hoc mode wifi without hack.
Having some trouble, and I think I've got everything right.
I have Adhoc Switch on the Kindle, everything seems configured correctly. Have Wifi Teather, v. 3.1 beta9 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Kindle is rooted with recovery, but stock ROM. Phone is rooted with recovery, but stock Rogers ROM.
I start the Wifi tether application on the Galaxy S2, and then run the Adhoc Switch on my KF to change from infrastructure to ad hoc, I have the identical SSID on both, no security (WEP etc.), and I can see that the KF tries to log into the phone via wifi, but it just keeps saying "Attempting". The phone has wifi turned on of course.
The problem appears to be on the phone side. I'm wondering if the Samsung Galaxy S2 does not support ad hoc connections. If not, I'm not sure what the wi tether application does.
Any thoughts?
I just realized that the Rogers i727R has mobile hotspots enabled on the Wireless Networks menu, so I don't think I need a third party wireless tethering app on the phone.
So I took off Wifi Tether, and just set it up on the Rogers menus, gave it the same name as on the Kindle using Adhoc Switch, put the KF into Ad Hoc mode, turned on the Samsung Galaxy S2 Hotspot, and the Kindle tries to connect, but same issue. Just says "Attempting to connect".
Doesn't make sense. The Rogers phone is a wireless hotspot, and the KF is set up in AdHoc mode. The KF sees the Samsung's hotspot, and tries to connect. No security used on either side, network is open.

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried not using the KF in AdHoc mode now that you're using your phone's built in hotspot?
don't know about with phone but with hotspot and computer:
hotspot -> i use kf only (infrastructure mode)
thetering to notebook -> i use zt-180 adhoc switcher to switch to adhoc mode and have ssid and wep key set in the options of adhoc switcher
Boy, do I feel stupid. Worked like a charm.
So what is the purpose of Adhoc Switch on the Kindle? Why would you want to be in Adhoc mode?

Some phones only tether in AdHoc mode, which requires you to jump through all the hoops you did above in order to get the KF to connect. Luckily, you aren't one of them.
and on a laptop you can only actively build an adhoc network
I know changing the DNS to 4.2.2.2 and the alternate DNS to 4.2.2.1 helps out connection issues as well sometimes.
harry_fine - please change the subject of the topic (edit first post) to [Solved]

Hi Youcef,
With Ad hoc do you mean Bluetooth? Some games like Sonic 4 Ep 2 and Minecraft p.e. use bluetooth to connect with an other phone without wifi.
hi Benalimarwan
i mean by ad hoc, create wireless Ad-Hoc network on Windows , so you can share internet 3G/4G , but android don't see this network , i don't know why, i have nokia n8 before with symbian, i create ad hoc network with my laptop and i share internet very easy, but now my lg nexus don't work.

Hello,
I am trying to connect my "rooted" galaxy note 3 to ad hoc networks but the problem is that such ad hoc networks are not detectable by default. In fact, when I use Wifi Analyzer I can see them but when I use the normal scanning menu I cannot.
While googleing, the only proposed solution is to patch the Wpa_supplicant, but I cannot the corresponding one for my note 3!!!
can any one help me please?? What do i have to do in order to be able to connect to ad hoc networks?
I am sorry for my english language
