I got a message about new firmware update available for my 3g international version (rooted) today. I was out of network connection when I saw it so I haven't tried downloading it yet. Any idea what it is? ICS possibly?
Hello techspy,
I got the same notice, however unfortunately I am at work and there is now WLAN connection available. I will try it later at home. ( I have no root!)
Greetings
Its not ICS...only 11.87 megs Dang...
Wonder what the update is? Hope I don't lose root.
no notification on my UK tab 7.7 - even when I query the update manually.
what is the update?
Well I just installed the update. It says "Device updated to version P6800ZSLA2". No idea what was changed/updated

I think this update has been around for awhile. Kies is showing mine as having the latest firmware (LA2).
LA2 has been out for a few months now.

Version number 2.0.011044_11 now available to update
Mine's just updating now. Hopefully this is a precursor to Gingerbread.
Updating mine also. (58 Meg)
Samsung KIES says JS5/JPY/JS3 is the lastest firmware.
I came from MIUI and now im on JPA/JPP/JP2.
Still no gingerbread with update
@amwebby I really hope it is a precursor to gingerbread. I've been trying to stick to stock rom until at least after gingerbread update but I'm getting a little sick of the wait. Let's hope when it comes that it's 2.3.4
I'm on version 2.0.0.1032_12, in the UK and Keis tells me that I have the latest version installed.
Strange!!

No. Kies is updated when new phones are released or they fix/change any of the built-in (bloat) features. Kies supports galaxy S, ace, wave, galaxy 5 and a whole bunch of other phones. If they needed to update Kies every time they release a new firmware we'd be updating every day. The only time a Kies update has been needed for a firmware launch was when they changed the download servers.
Same same
I think it's the same.
We wont get Gingerbread before SGS2 is available.
One reason for me thinking this is that the bigest carrier in denmark has declared that is will release the SGS2 in week 19, same week as Gingerbread is comming to there branded SGS phones.
PS. Got the Kies update in Denmark as well.
I don't think they updated it for the GB release cause those were already online a while as we all know so I guess theres no update required for them.
Hi all!
Just hooked up my phone to see Kies has an update.
The difference is version numbers used surprises me....

I really hope they will give us something new. Like GTalk 2 with video support
I got the new Kies on Monday. In my experience that sometimes predates an Android update, which was promised for the end of September.
If you guys aren't using Odin, you may want to give it a try.

I'm on stock currently myself. You don't need Odin for custom ROMs, there's plenty of stock already on samfirmware.com.
Kies already bricked my i9000m twice using Samsung official firmware. Samsung's response was that the firmware wasn't available for my area yet. I told them that Kies gave me the green light, and their response was still the FW wasn't approved yet. That was a PITA to get resolved.
Samfirmware.com has firmwares (including stock) that many have tried, and Odin takes the tedious waiting out too. Between waiting and 2 bricked phones from Kies, I am done with Kies forever!...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Hmm, Samfirmwares may be stock but not necessarily official releases. I don't trust Kies although I've never had a really bad experience using it. I just want OTA updates like I used to have on my Nokia 4 years ago!

There's a few that are 100% official. The rest are stock waiting for carriers to chop them up.
Honestly the only thing that you are waiting for is carrier bloatware.
BTW I used to be a Nokia e71/72 user myself...

Luckily mine is carrier-free. Discerning the "final official" roms and installing them whilst retaining my current set up is what concerns me. Like I said, petitioning for OTA updates.
It would be best to work like google chrome browser auto update. It downloads the update, and next time you start it it installs. No questions asked... no time wasted... Always the newest firmware. OTA of course. It could work on android. Downloads update, waits for restart. When restarted if battery >60% installs. Piece of cake...

Kies works ok but this message didn't apears in the old Kies version.
Lol
Samfireware.com does carry stock Samsung roms (it is not an official Samsung site) and they aren't official releases.
I have the 2.3.5 update from there and it is noticably quicker that the official 2.3.3. That being said kies detects the new version and says that its not official and that the upgrade service is not available for non-official versions. If samsung release an official update I might flash back to and older version then update through kies if I really had to which is no drama.

I noticed today the UK Samsung site has full instructions for OTA updates, which they call FOTA, for Firmware Over The Air.
The instructions were posted just after the last official update in August. Hopefully a sign that OTA is on the way.

Guys, i need some help/tips about updating my Firmware. I have a samsumsung GT-I9000 with Android 2.2 (Froyo). I know that there is a newer version (2.3 or so).
I downloaded Samsung Kies but on the general information screen it doesn´t give me the option to update the firmware version, it is only showing me my firmware version (not the latest version available, neither the chance of updaiting it).
I have tryed to install the Kies in differents PCs and I had the same issue.
My GF has a Samsung 5500 (Samsung Galaxy Europe) with Android 2.1, and we had the same problem trying to (or not having the chance to) update the firmware.
My first option is to try with Kies as it is an official source (I don´t want to have troubles with the warranty), but if it is not possible let me know any other way to update our phones.
I will really appreciate any help.
Cheers,
It sounds as if your SGS is tied to a carrier, in which case you are dependent on them for their version of the upgrade.
I would contact them first. If you get no joy there your only option is to "unlock" the phone from that carrier, thus enabling Kies to give you the generic upgrade.
This is what I did. I was locked to o2, here in the UK. Upon unlocking I get the latest generic update via Kies as soon as it becomes available, which is months before o2.

Samsung seems to be very secretive with its update schedule. I have a Swedish version of the pad and I’m still waiting for the release of 3.2.
In the Netherlands 3.2 has been out already for almost a month or more

You could just flash one of the stock 3.2 Roms floating around manually, or wait for the "supposed" Q1 release of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Your guess is as good as mine.
I am waiting for a 3.2 update on my gtab 10.1 wifi. It doesnt make sense to me that somehow the 3G version got it before the wifi version when the 3G version has to go through Samsung AND the carriers here, while the wifi version just needs to go through Samsung.
I dont know why I stick with these guys...

I hope thats what they are planning to do. Otherwise I will be sad.
I got a 10.1 wifi+3g model, and there is no 3.2 in Greece available.
Still on 3.1
I believe that it will go directly on v4 here in Greece.
I emailed Samsung UK yesterday to ask when we might expect it and they said there are currently no plans to release 3.2 in the UK. I hope that means we may go straight to ICS.
So what will happen, if we take the FW from a country that have released the 3.2 and we install it to our tab?
I just got the OTA 3.2 update for Verzion's 4g LTE version here in the US today at about 5:00pm EST, I live in the southern states. It was a 398mb file.
I just received the 3.2 update through Kies. It's faster but the Auto-rotation is not responding???

XXLRK is still 4.0.4
Downloaded XXLRK today on my german gt-n7000 in India. Still 404
The changelog for XXLRK
The large 24MB OTA update does not change the version of Android, but the Galaxy brings touch to firmware version XXLRK and the performance of the Galaxy increases note. The search will remain intact! But there is a slightly modified keyboard with large distances and significantly improved writing comfort
Will this OTA kill root access? or should I rather use Mobile Odin?

I did the OTA update altho i did see it in the samfirmware website as well .. i wonder, could this update also fix the brickbug samsung said would fix ? Altho i suspect they would make a big fuss about the update if this was the one which fixed the brickbug, eh ?
I have it. Its 4.0.4
However i want to root with cwm is there a cf kernel for xxlrk?
Anyone noticed in XXLRK, power_profile.xml is mentioning battery capacity as 1650 instead of actual value 2500? decompiled framework-res.apk and under res>xml you can find this file. I don't know if battery usage calculation can give bad result because of this? or is it ok? Anyone with advanced knowledge pls.
Asian 4.04 Update
Most of Asia received the update to 4.04 in the last few days. I am in Thailand but there was no OTA update but the update was on Kies. Since updating I am still wondering what it was supposed to do as I cannot see any obvious changes except that I have lost root. I thought it might be an update to keep us safe from the brickbug but who knows? Anyone able to shed any light on what the update is for?

I use the Thai stock ICS 4.0.4 but I don't think there are differences, but this is only a regional 4.0.4 update.
And I didn't see any post here describing something new in these end-of-july-stock-ROMs.
I kept root the long way (coming from GB rooted, and installing the new version with Mobile Odin Pro, adding Notecore 13 later).
When you switch to a safe kernel you do not have to hope for an official safe update anymore.
