Question in wrong place - Xperia Arc General

If i testpoint unlock my bootooader, apply root, change build.prop values to LT18, relock bootloader, restart phone, update via pc companion
Will this work for my arc ?
Ps. Im in norway
From my sexy LT15i

Just flash ICS kernel and rom...

Since Track ID is freely available on the Market now for *any* phone does it make any difference if one unlocks the bootloader...?

Yeh, of course. Just wondering if this method will work..
From my sexy LT15i

Hope this helps...

If you unlock your bootloader for free on the Sony website you lose all your DRM licences and thus cannot use the stock TrackID version. You also will not be able to update via SEUS. Therefore, dont follow this path.
On the other hand, if you unlock your bootloader using the testpoint procedure, you keep your DRM keys, you can still update via SEUS. As an added bonus, it also removes the SIMlock from your phone so you can then use any SIM from any service provider from any country in the world.
The catch here is that you have to pay for it but at 15GBP it is not a lot of money. I have done it and also many other users on this forums. JINX13 does it remotely for you. Drop him a PM. Also, have a look at his webpage.
http://phoneunlockserver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/7-guide-all-xperia-bootloader-unlock-unlock-sim-enable-fastboot/

If you search on google you can get all the tools you need and do it yourself and not have to pay... just saying... I did it. Not that hard.

Interesting idea. I'd already flashed ICS the other day but am back on GB for the time being so thought I'd give it a shot.
Short answer is no, it doesn't work. Changed all my model numbers in build.prop to LT18i and customisation numbers to one on the list. Problem being, PC Companion still sees the phone as an LT15.
Good challenge though - any ideas anyone?
PS - I don't want suggestions on other ways of getting ICS, I can already do that! More interested in knowing where PC Companion takes the model number from.

I am trying to repair via PCC (hoping it will solve my persistent wifi issue)but always getting an error in the preparing step..can someone help me?Is it due to some authentication with the Sale ID or country or region and incompatibility with the official Nordic ICS?

[Q] Is it possible to do software updates via SEUS when bootloader is unlocked?

Hello,
I have one quick question: Is is possible to update your firmware via SEUS in the future, when your bootloader is unlocked?
If so, is root (when accieved ) going to be lost during update?
Thank you,
Linkin
The bootloader has been unlocked by SE not by a XDA dev on purpose, they will not punish you in blocking SEUS
SEUS upgrades will not unroot the phone or else your voided warranty because of root will be unvoided, SE will not give you this kind of gift
as SEUS checks some data on preupdate state yes it is possible if you are on stock rom (with/without root not dependant).
well - root is gone though after flashing SE Update as it rewrites permissions to defaults
Thank you guys!

I knew that it was unlocked by SE, but I just wanted to check
To be honest I dont see a reason, why DRM only works with locked bootloader... but nevertheless it seems to be that way (at least I read it... dont have DRM content since I am against DRM...).

is it possible you did a misspell here? it should ONLY be possible if your are on stock rom, shouldnt it?
Or dont you mean the SE rom with "stock rom" but the original android rom?
But anyway even if you use a custom rom then let say SE release 2.3.3 update or even 2.4 you will have people here who will post a flashable update stock rom you can easily flash in recovery
It's even better and more secure than the online flash by seus (how many complaints about the flashing process freezing at some point with seus?)
ok thank you very much for your answer and your time!
Looking forward to test root on my device

ah well ^^
not type when you are thinking on sth else
corrected it
I have unlocked the bootloader, and tried to restore a proper image from SEUS (since i've messed up with a bad boot.img) and it's not possible.
SEUS gives me a message that it won't flash a phone that has a modified software.
mhm, thats actually why I asked maybe it detected a strange bootimage?
Well you can always backup your actual stock rom with a recovery before using a custom rom, just wait and see who is the good dev who will give us the recovery for Arc
how come SE release bootloader unlock for Xperia ARC?
while we got such a hard time on Xperia X10?
it noted there, my warranty will void if i unlock the bootloader.. sigh.. they release the unlock but void ur warranty? cheating
BECAUSE we got such hard time in x10 & people were demanding free bootloader
they flooded se on twitter, facebook, their blogs & support ^^
must have been some number so SE came up with solution
And now you have hundreds of people unlocking their bootloader and no one to Root it
comes time comes root
be patient, in a week or so we have what we need ^^
but it isn't THAT easy as we saw from z's atempts & since there is no exploit working on 2.3 we are lucky to have such "easy" way anyway

[OFFERING HELP] Sony Play Rooting.

Hello Guys and Girls,

Hello there my friend just purchased a Rogers branded xperia play how would i go about rooting it and unlocking the bootloader? i highly doubt its as simple as fastboot oem unlock but am confused at the current state of affairs.
Hello there friend, do you know if the phone is carrier unlocked or is it locked? if the phone is unlocked it will be so much easier to root. if your phone is locked you will need to ask Alejandrissimo or Blagus to unlock it (this will cost 17 euros there abouts, the software they use to unlock your phone requires SERVER CREDITS which they have to pay for... by doing this your phone will become fully unlocked which means you can then go onto the netstage of rooting the device), there is no way i can help unlock the phone but soon as that is done the rooting is very simple and straight forward. if you are unsure if the phone is unlocked/locked try putting another sim card into the phone (has to be different network)

Hey dude, thanks for the offer ive been googling for the past few days and am still unsure about where to start. Do you mind if I ask a few q's?
1. I have a carrier unlocked r800i, but not bootloader unlocked. Its on 2.3.3 and I want to root but prefer to keep BL locked, is it possible?
2. If root will I still be able to get OTA updates?
3. Apart from titanium backup what is some fun stuff to do after rooting?
Thanks in advance man ;-)

You can always reLock the Bootloader after you rooted there is also a method that works on all cept R8OOX to get R00T without Unlocking the BOOTloader
If Bootloader is Relocked, you will be able to get OTA updates, dont do it by PCCompanion.if bootloader is UNblocked then you will get a BRICKed phone, but can be recovered i think.
Alot of great AppS for RooT,DroidSheep is mean but total fun (See what people are doing connected to the same network ) app2SD PLUS , setcpu for OverClocking on DooMkernel,LCDensity and Adfree are ontop of my head.Wireless TEHTER and RooTExplorer are great, with RC being a MUST!
I personally feel the Xperia Play threads here at XDA is very fragmented.
This place would be a whole lot better if there was a global thread posted, that was specifically dedicated to all things rooting.
This would ideally include -
1) A conclusive guide how to root every type of model
2) Bloatware that is safe to remove
3) Completed ROMS / partially completed ROMS safe to install
4) How to overclock
5) Xperia Play specfic rooted mods that are best to install
6) How to update firmware / software once rooted, and how not to brick your phone
I am perfectly capabel of rooting myself, i did it at 2.3.2, but now i refrain from rooting because there is no global guide how to do it and keep 2.3.3.
Yes there are guides, but like i say, they are fragmented and are not noob friendly.
Make a noob friendly guide and there will be a lot more interest in these forums.
Remember........the more people who are rooted.........the more people who will potentially purchase rooted software written by developers.
It's in everybodys interest to stop all this fragmentation of information, and for some expert to write up a conclusive guide to the Xperia Play.

i have a newbie question..
I managed to root my xPlay but most of the people say to not update from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 from WIFI if you are unlocked.
What is the meaning of unlocked? It means bootloader?
Yes unlock most likely refers to bootloader. If it's referring to sim, people normally put the word sim in front

If you want to do the update on your phone, lock the bootloader
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
Thanks for the advice guys! Im thinking its probably less hassle just to unlock the bootloader, seems that people have probs doing OTA updates with frozen and deleted stock apps, but i'll let u guys know how it goes anyway

Hi
I am a first time Android user, Picked up an Xperia Play on Monday gingerbread 2.3.3 , Build version 4.0.A.2.368 . Ive read through numerous threads here regarding Rooting and unlocking the boot loader, I'm falling at the first hurdle. For some reason when I try to put the handset into fastboot mode (holding search key while I plug in the usb cable) it just refuses to work. it just charges the handset and I get the green light on the power button rather than the blue one
Is this a know issue ?(haven't come across a solid explanation yet) and if it is , is there a fix?
I have tried another method of flashing the firmware using Windows 7 64bit and 32bit with the same results, system does not recognise the drivers.
So any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
If your bootloader isn't unlocked then ya you won't get a blue led it needs to be unlocked first

Actually Ive just gone back to look at the unlocking bootloader guide, and this is where Im having the issue.
5. Extract fastboot.rar and open fastboot folder
6. Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
7. Select 'Open command window here'
8. Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold search button and plug in USB Cable)
Part 8 there...This is has to be done If I want to be able to unlock the bootloader....Am i missing something ?

This post is pretty much hitting the nail on the head.
Since there are so many different models of this phone and differences with regard to carriers it quickly gets confusing to find the right tutorial
Looks like my handset is network locked, I have requested the unlock code from my service provider, so Ill give it another go when I get it unlocked.
does anyone know if the US At&t version comes unlocked?
I am picking one up tomorrow and wouldn't mind getting a heads up on this
My unlocking the bootloader saga continues, I received the network unlocking code from my service provider this morning, now when I try to enter fastboot more I get an orange light instead of the green light I was getting before.
Any suggestions would be faboo
Keep trying pressing search button

4.0.2.A.0.42 SEUS update in UK now rolls out branded fw?

I just updated my Play using SEUS/PC Companion to the recently released 4.0.2.A.0.42 update. I purchased my phone for the bargain price of £149 a few weeks back from an O2 store and was happy that its installation of Android wasn't branded and that the update prior to this (2.3.3) wasn't either.
However, I have just witnessed the O2 boot up screen and fun features like wap.o2.com being my home screen.
Is this normal?
I'm wanting to keep my phone unrooted and bootloader locked for the moment, but is there any way of getting an unbranded 4.0.2.A.0.42 ?
Thanks
I did it using the free thingy from wotanserver and im on the latest uk generic after waiting for my o2 phone to get the update. it is free btw and didnt take too long. I then checked and repaired via pc companion just to make sure I was running the very latest and it is
Thanks! Are you in the same situation with an unroot/locked bootloader as myself? I think with Wotan I would be able to change the CDA? I'm not sure what that entails exactly, but I may give it a go. More info surrounding it would be helpful.
Just use flashtool like i did and update it to the generic uk vershion of the latest firmware no o2 splash screen i knew o2 would do this

If you use the wotanserver client do you lose your root? & does it wipe all data & apps?
Bought mine unbranded from Sony Ericsson's website, and its continued to be unbranded since, Ermm just root with the Zergrush method, takes about a minute todo, and no one has had problems as fare as I know.

While it may not do it (I'm unsure myself) it's good practice to always backup before making any major changes. And as TheCraig says, it's easy enough to root again.

Thanks. It's a bit naff for me because while it's O2 locked, Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network and their SIMs seem to be able to bypass the SIM lock.
BTW doubleluckstur, as you're an O2 user - have you lost your warranty on the phone? I'm still looking around to see how best to approach unlocking the bootloader/rooting and warranty preservation. Am I right in thinking that the official SE method of unlocking bootloader won't work on our O2 Plays?

All you have to do is flash a generic rom before you update to 2.3.4 The rom that comes with the o2 plays will have some kind of o2 trigger that is leading to the branded update.
Flash this rom with flashtool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097591
then update using SEUS. Bet you wont have all the o2 ****

I dont think you can ever lose your warranty. As long as you have a stock, unrooted phone, the guy in the o2 shop will be clueless.
As to your other question, the official way does not work. You're right, so don't put your IMEI in the bootloader unlocker because it won't work.

Or I have to patch it or fix it with this tool? I mean did Sony fixed their firmwares to work on unlocked bootloaders too?

You can update your Z3 even after you unlocked bootloader and rooted!

Hi guys
I don't know if this is common sense, but when I asked here, I was told my device would be bricked (can't update to newer software when they arrives like Android L). So this might not be helpful to a lot, but it is to me and might be to new people who seek info on their new device and still want to make sure they can update.
I just wrote to customer support and asked if their was any way to update my device with an unlocked bootloader. They told me that I can't update from phone, neither from PC companion. But was told I was still able to download Flashtool and update my device from there.
So hope I helped someone to make sure it works!
When ur phone is bricked u cant update, only thing u can do is to give it to your dog to play with.
But its right with unlocked bootloader u can update via flash, cwm ect which u should do anyway or what would be the reason to unlock it.
IThe only thing u loose is the sony stock stuff like camera app and some more havent had time to read about.
Google the word brick btw

As I understand it you lose your DRM keys. Those keys are unrecoverable and reduces your camera in darkness and audio.
