[Q] Insufficient Storage Available ? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello fellow xda- users & developers,
This is the first time Post on the forum since I really didn't find the need to.
I own an HD2 and it's been through quite a few roms (mostly CM7). Not too long ago I flashed the Medroid ICS CM9 remix(task9 fresh install on every flash) and it was really smooth, but it had random reboots and not a fully developed camcorder. So until yesterday I flashed the MIUI HSTR SGSII v4.0 which is by far the most elegant rom but as all there had to be a flaw. As i was installing my desired apps and after a dozen apps I got the "insufficient storage available". I had this problem with a few past roms but i would flash a new one. The ICS rom didn't have this problem. I also have 669MB Internal memory, 7.09GB SD Card.
I have tried fresh intalling it, clearing cache, wipe/factory reset. I have search the forum, and used the knowledge of the users but nothing seems to solve this problem.
I would much appreciate if there are suggestions to solving this problem out there.
Much thanks in advance cheers.

I'm facing the same problem. Everything was perfect but suddenly for last few days when I try to install some apps it says Insufficient storage and whenever I try to update any apps from Google Play it says Insufficient storage.
NAND ROM : [NIGHTLY][Full HWA] CyanogenMod 9 [4.0.4][Kernel: cmhtcleo/tytung]
8GB SD Card with 2GB ext4 partition.
simple2ext app showing following information:
DATA:
Size: 218MB
Used: 103MB
Free: 115MB
SD-EXT:
Size: 1922MB
Used: 190MB
Free: 1731MB
Cache:
Size: 2MB
Used: 784KB
Free: 1MB
Any suggestion please ?

I wonder how he got 669mb of Internal memory. I'm jealous!

669 MB ? is it possible? I don't think so. But if he said it an be. See if you guys know how to repartition MGDLR then you can make the partition of 150 MB. For ICS or CM7 roms 150 is well enough. and then you can have enough memory.
You can also use APPs to SD to have more memory.
try using cache clearing apps to clear the cache so that u can have extra memory.

Hey guys,
I see the same error message with running 'MccM MixTheme V1.3 HTC Sense.Iphone.ICS.Latest Miui Base'. However the worst part is that the issue appears as soon as I try to install my first app on the phone, so I can't do anything besides use what comes with the stock. Oddly enough, just 1 other fellow member faced this issue (and reported it in the DEV thread), however no one posted a solution to it. BTW I've installed the ROM 3 times with the same observations.
Could someone care to help with this please?

I have solved my problem. I faced that problem because I changed the setting last week, I set the app data to be saved in SD-EXT. I set the app data to be saved in phone storage last night and rebooted my HD2, problem solved. I have updated all the apps which were showing errors

had the same issue. All I did was clear cache via Recovery and the problem is now gone

I just backed up all my data, and wipe data/factory reset.. Solve the problem.

A2SD/Low Storage Issue - HELP!!!

Can anyone explain to me why when I have a 1Gb Ext4 partition on my SD card with only 367Mb used I am getting Low Storage warning when restoring my apps (143 of them) through Titanium Backup onto a clean HardDroid2 CM7 build with A2SD flashed and confirmed working? When I check it states 199Mb used, 13Mb free but when I use Root Explorer to look into SD-Ext I have App, Private App, Data, Dalvik, etc and all of the app APKs appear to be in there. Am I missing something here? I had the same issue for the first time a couple of days ago when I reflashed Hyperdroid - never had it before, and always do full Task29/fresh MAGLDR/fresh CWM/CWM wipe wipe wipe/etc for each new ROM so SD Ext is always reformatted too. It's driving me nuts
when you install an app, the size of that app gets knocked off the available space, but gets restored when you reboot, so try installing a few, check eth remaining space, then reboot, see if the reported space changes. (Ive never tested it myself, just repeating something i read)_
..also using app2sd and my phone mem seems to decrease also.
When i look into /data and /sdext i see in both the app folder with all apps installed.
but the used space seems to be bigger on the sd-ext.
...when you install e.g. Angry birds with 20 mb you will notice that your internal storage will NOT decrease to that amount: thats the reason why the data folder is smaller than the sd ext.
Seems so that parts of the apps are stored on the phone mem although we ve got app2sd with an sd ext.
Once i tried to delete that data folder, but then all apps stopped working.
In twyeens rom you can move your apps to sd, there was a fix some months ago, so that all apps runs fine from it also e.g. angry birds.

[Q]Any help for My best HD2 ROM Ever tested ???

This is the best HD2 ROM I've ever tested but only missing 1 thing... space
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022108
The Amazing Qaliza incredible S V2.... It have all the requirments for day to day use as speed, stable and even looks gr8
Is there any way I can increase the internal space as I get only 81 MB after install wich is not enough for my day to day used apps....
Any help would be thankfull
Use an ext partition, as per post 1.
1st of all thx for the reply
In fact that's what I've did.. but the thing is in post 1 it's mentioned for the V4 ROM which is Data2sd while this ROM is built on app2sd.. and this is the problem...
So any Ideas????
Ap2sd and data2sd both use the same ext.
also, you are aware that the system wont include the ext value when you view available storage, right? But it will use it as internal storage.
So say you have 80mb free plus a 1gb ext partition, your available storage shows as 80mb, but really its 1104mb.
Third party apps like titanium WILL include the ext value.
the thing is that it's included and this is 4 sure... but I really can't install any new apps as it says you are running out of storage... and this is the problem.
In titanium backup I have the storage reading like this :
System ROM:325 MB (3.28 MB Free)
Internal :95.6 MB(12.1 MB Free) - and this is the problem
SD card: :2.90 GB(148 MB Free)
SD card a2sd:1.00 GB (808 MB Free) which I can't do any thing with them
So this is the problem in easy way.... Any help, Plzzzzzzzzzzz
I've tested alot and alot of ROM's but I think this is the most stable, smooth, fast and even all features working in excellent Condition such as camcorder, vedio playing and all the stuff you need in day to day.
So if you could suggest another ROM that functions as good as this one it would be gr8 to have it but the thing is that it should support Arabic language as well.
Sorry for the long reply but just wanted to clear my point of view and my request

Most of your apps downloaded from market will be installed there. So...what did you mean with "which I can't do any thing with them"?
as post above, and also, could it be that the 200mb used in your sd-ext partition is left over from an old rom?
To wipe the sd-ext, go into cwm and run a wipe data/factory reset (but this will of course reset the rom and wipe the phones data, so do a backup first)
Also, i think there are some terminal commands to restart/activate app2sd (or data2sd, ) perhaps they would help?
For me, the one time months ago that i had issues with teh sd-ext partition seemingly not being used, i just took a backup, repartitioned the sd card, reflashed the rom (since i suspect that app2sd is initialised during first boot) and it worked.

That's what I'm talking about... That I've done task29 wipedata/factory reset b4 starting to install the ROM and when 1st start it the sd-ext is almost free then while installing the apps some go there and alot doesn't !!!!
for example now I have about 11MB free on the internal storage and 808 MB Free on the sd-ext, If I tried to install an app that is 14 MB I wouldn't be able to do so
For your knowledge, I've tried to install alot of rom's and they worked perfect, tried to contact Qaliza but I think he is busy now repling for my Issue, wiped my phone till I felt it wouldn't remember that he is a cell phone any more reinstalled the rom many times and always have the same Issue with the low disk space.... I think I'm in need of a patch or something like this.
Now I have a Q:
If I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20776525&postcount=2733 will it help or will it corrupt my ROM only??
sorry if my Q looks stupid but I'm really looking for any thing that could help

[Q] Very Slow NAND Roms

Hi,
I have been using different Android NAND Roms (most of them MIUI) and recently I have made the following experience:
The System, Apps and stuff are very slow. It takes forever to load the Facebook or Whatsapp applications and I often get an pop-up saying: "xxx is not responding. [Wait][Force Close]"
Same thing happens to the system also.
What seems to be the problem here?
I think I have a 240MB system partition, ~45MB Cache, 0MB Swap and 1GB sd-ext.
The problem occured ever since I started using recent ROMs again. Doesn't happen to langthang's MIUI from January.
I'd appreciate any comments
if you have restored data from one rom family into another, this can very often cause conflicts. (example restoring data/apps from a miui rom into a cm rom)
also, be sure and clean out any android folders on the fat32 part of the sd card, the partitioning and/or 'wipedata factory reset' doesn't always catch these, and residual leftovers can cause problems.
also, you said you use a 240meg system partition, , but not what rom you are using, are you sure 240 is big enough? if its almost full, it could be you have a bad block or so.

[Q] This device is running low on free disk space - whats going on?

Hi,
I'm using SUNDAWG LEGENDARY TBD EDITION "STOCK" ROM.
From 2 days im getting notification "This device is running low on free disk space(...)" when opening some apps.
I don't know whats going on. Last time i had this i reinstall this ROM, because that was impossible to open any app, even dialer.
I have 102MB free on my memory.
12GB free on SD card.
1.2GB free on Internal Storage.
so...
whats going on?
How to fix this?
I need to have my phone usesfull, I'm far from home, i cant reinstall ROM now, and using phone as navigation Whithout the phone I will have a lots of problems to come back to home  (not funny!)
Whatvere, please help me =^-^=
Android has a restriction within it which limits further downloads and (any writes to memory) when the remaining space gets below 10% of that which is available.
I agree, this can be very frustrating. Especially for NativeSD users with a 32Gb card, a 10Gb Ext4 partition and a few NativeSD roms installed. When the ext4 partition gets 90% full, no roms can be used. Despite there being a whole 1Gb of space remaining.
There is a possible solution here which I haven't had a chance to try out yet, involving reducing the 10% restriction to 5 or 2% for example. But this would only be a temporary solution for your case, until you fill up the new available limit.
In your present situation (away from home), I would try to delete any unwanted apps.
A more permanent solution could be to do a nandroid backup, then trying to increase the ext4 partition via recovery.
Hope this helps, and I hope I haven't misunderstood your problem.
Hi, I have same problem with low disk space either I have lots of mb free ram. Now I use clean master and it really work. It is able to clean ram without reboot and low disk message is gone. Second thing is to move all apps into SD card.

It removes notification because when you use clean master it cleans your cache, which is also if i'm not wrong part of "data" partition. So, it frees you some amount of your data storage and msg is gone until you refill it with using apps.

[Q] storage space running out

hi,
i have a storage issue that i'll like to ask the gurus.. I've just moved from PSX's v8.5 (4.3) to PSX v3 (4.4) and along the way, I've made numerous backups just in case. after flashing v3 and hellscore b43, i ran into a storage space issue where my N4 told me i had insufficient space to install more apps, to work system functions, anything. Ive attached a screenshot of my storage, but it seems to be there is a good 5-6gb of space unaccounted for? i have v little songs in my phone, no movies, little apps as well. its rooted. can anyone point to as to how i can solve this?
thanks!
to add on, I've used storage analyser to better understand by storage, and it says i have 9.87gb available, whilte the stock storage details shows the number at 611mb.
help pls?

Try flashing SuperSU via the recovery.

hi, I've tried that, but to no avail..
ive also realised that system data takes up a huge chunk, more than 6gb. which is where most of the missing storage is. help, anyone?

Have you downgraded to the rom where you don't have this problem?

I only just realised I was having the same issue when I got an insufficient storage available message while trying to update some apps. To solve it reboot into recovery then go on backup and restore and delete any unnecessary backups you have, if the ROM's working now then you could do with deleting all of the old backups and making one fresh one with the new ROM. Also do the 'free unused space' thing in CWM, I had no backups but somehow there was almost 3 gigs of space being wasted by CWM. There's probably something similar in TWRP if you use that

You've got the right app. check your /data directory to see what's chewing up space. I bet it's TWRP or other stuff stored by your recovery manager.
Use this great app to check whats taking up space: Storage analyzer
When u make full backups they won't show up in the system storage scan. Go to the file directly n try deleting an old backup. I guarantee u will see more space available after u do. Each backup is usually about 400-500mb depending on how many apps n other data u have

Or maybe you got shrinkage problem which is pretty normal when upgrading (seeing that you flashed 4.4.2 rom over 4.3 rom). Your 16gb nexus was shrinked to 8gb. The easiest way to fix it is by formatting your internal in recovery (or flash stock recovery and do factory reset). Do make backup of your things though cause you'll lose them.
