[Q] Anybody have SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC in HD2 with WP7 ? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi all !
I'm looking for a new (other) SD card for my HTC HD2 with WP7 ROM, because now I have a 8GB Kingston Class4 and its performance is terrible.
WP Bench Free from Marketplace are showing me storage average write = 1,81MB/s
After every ROM flashing I have to spend about 30-40 minutes on "Installing Apps" and finally I can't watch any movie from storage or internet without freezes and stuck.
I'm thinking about SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 4 or 8GB Class6. Does anybody have this card in HTC Leo with WP7? Is it work fine with WP7? Any advices about new SD card for HD2?

SD cards are hit or miss, what works for one may not work for others
in saying that I did several weeks of research on this brand and model
There are actually two versions of the ultra mobile card, a red and grey one, which is a class 6, and a black one which is class 4
Now, from my research, statistically you have a much higher chance of the 16GB class 4 working SDSDQY-016G-E11M is the product code, but this is not a "will work" post, it may do, and there is a good chance it will but then again it might not

I have a 32Gb Sandisk Mobile Ultra Class4 - never skipped a beat - best thing I ever bought for my phone. The only thing to beat that would be a 64Gb card

My research is only against 16GB cards, can't comment on other sizes, random access is the key here tho, so review as many sites as you can with a specific model number, yup sites in Japan too! Record all the random and sequential data you can find, take an average and use that as a basis to buy, its about as accurate as you can get on a subject that by its very nature is random
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

so you say that it is better to buy a SanDisk microSDHC Class4 than SanDisk microSDHC Class6...? I'm thinging about 8GB cards, so this is SDSDQ-008G-A11M and SDSDQY-008G-A11A

What is the best SD card for the Hero?

Heya,
I'm sure this topic has been discussed but I can't seem to find a clear answer. It's obvious that the HTC Hero is somewhat temperamental with certain makes and classes of Micro SD, or the assumed Class 6 isn't always as fast as people hope.
In my case the 2gb stock card is just going to be too small so I'm keen to purchase the biggest card the phone will support (which is 16gb?) or 8gb. Is there a card in particular which stands out as being the best (in terms of speed) for the HTC Hero at these sizes?
Thanks
i think the biggest possible micro sdhc card is 32gb, but i´m not sure and it was not worth to me so i bought a 16gb and it works perfect
Are there 32GB micro sd cards available?

find Sandisk 32GB micro SDHC is already available for pre-order, but no specific date of release.
I just bought a Sandisk 16GB micro sd (class 2), appears faster then the 2gb stock card.
Try to search some technical reviews of different SD card with statistics. Much better than relying on "CLASS".
Class is important
Hi, I would say that in a price/performance view you should go for a 8GB class 6 card right now. The class says how fast the card can transfer data. Class 2 does 2MB/s. Class 6 does 6MB/s.
32GB is the limit of the SDHC format. I have 8GB now and I guess I upgrade to 32GB later when prices get better.
for sandisk, class 2 = class 4, class 4 = class 6.
as i know, some class 2 is actually much faster than the standard minimum speed.
I have an 8 gig in my phone but its having trouble rescanning the card i have like 4 gigs of music on it and I think thats too much for the phone to scan, that would be my only thing to maybe consider.
Ps if anyone has a solution for my problem that would be great haha
Unless you despareately need to store A LOT of data on your phone get the fastest card rather than the largest.
8GB SanDisk Class 6 card is about £17.
16GB SanDisk Class 6 is nearly £50.
Prices will drop rapidly so for now I'd go for 8GB at 6MBPS over 16GB or 32GB at a lower speed.
Hi - Following on from this, has anyone used a 32GB card and proven it works. I'd hate to get one and find out that it's incompatible with the G2 Hero.
32GB microSD cards are out?!

The 16GB Class 6 you list doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to me, it is a wee bit over twice the price, but not ridciulously so (i.e 3x the price). It is the best MicroSDHC card that money can buy, and the transcend one I've got is nice and fast (pretty sure it was less than £50 too, now that I think about it).

Nup, no 32GB MicroSDHC cards as yet fellas, all the sites I've seen, list the Sandisk one for Pre-Order, but its been like that for 6 months, so maybe they're planning for a 2010 release?
Err is that spam?
any offical word or tests showing that a class 6 will work to its full speed... rumor I have heard is the hardware in the hero (us version) will utilize up to class 2 speeds.
(Not to say a class 6 wont work. just that it will only be reading and writing at class 2 speeds) Can anybody confirm?
I can maintain 6-7MB/s write speak to my 16GB Class 6 which is Class 6 speeds. Not as fast as I'd like (SD speeds), but worlds better than the Nokia N95 8GB I had before which was limited to 800-1000KB/s (only USB 2.0 full speed as opposed to hi speed).
qwiksand, is that from your hero or from a card reader?
I am trying to find the source now but cant rummage up my history; i swear i read an email from HTC saying the card reader in the Hero was a class 2 reader, thus nullifying any performance increase from a class 4 or 6 card.
hmm, you're making me doubt myself now!
I'll do a speed test today both in the phone, and out.

Likewise,I'm sure I read an official source saying that it would only make use of 16GB irrespective of the size of the card. Sounds more dubious but I'm not going to risk it with my own money!!
Any updates? Want to get one on black friday
As what i know G3 Hero only support up to 16gb sd/sdhc card.
As the class on those card are for writing speed & reading speed is all the same.
edit: i have found some news frm somewhere...
Good Morning Frank,
Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about what class of SD card to use in your Sprint HTC Hero. My name is A.J. and I will be happy to assist you today.
If you are looking to purchase an SD card that the device will read at its full native speed you will need to purchase a class 2. The device will read a class 4 but not at its native speeds.
Frank, if you have any future questions about your device please feel free to visit HTC - Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer and send us another e-mail. You may also enjoy HTC Smartphone Wiki - HTC, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices, including the Sprint HTC Hero! I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at HTC Online Survey I hope you have a great day!

According to HTC's website the Hero can use SD 2.0, SD 2.0 is another way of saying SDHC, just like devices that are compatible with standard SD, the device is expandable to the limit of the format. Therefore, the Hero CAN do 32GB because it is SDHC compatible. Only problem is the 32GB Cards have yet to be mass produced.

Compatible SD Cards for Windows Phone 7

Hi there,
i want to make some Thread about the SD Cards for the use of Windows Phone 7 and want to collect information. I Think many people who want to use WP7 on HD2 have to buy a new one, even my 16 GB SanDisk Class 6 is not compatible.
I found this on web:
Hi, actually the Samsung Focus has a 16GB internal memory and expandable up to 32GB. So you can insert a 32GB micro SD card on this device. However there are certain limitations when it comes to the micro SD card. Compatible micro SD cards will be branded as “Windows Phone 7 Compatible” on the packaging. Approved cards can be obtained from the manufacturer or carrier. (The SanDisk 8GB class 2 micro SD card has been certified.) Many commercially available retail micro SD cards are not approved for use in Windows Phone 7. Use of unapproved cards may cause performance degradation or device instability, including unexpected reset and loss of user data.

For WP7 i use the 2GB SanDisc that was sold with the phone. I had crashs at first install but after Hardreset it is working without lags or crashes. Everything is fine.

you sure? i also had insert my 2 GB after the 16 GB makes crashes...but i think it's still not included in system, because i only git 180 MB storage i'll try out at home with the offcial post of WP7 ROM
but so far i know only class 2 sd's from sandisk are working
I have a sandisk 4gb class 4, everything works normally from the first boot
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
My 16GB Sandisk class 2 worked then all of a sudden the phone kept rebooting constantly. I had to reflash again to fix the reboot, 1 hour later it kept screwing up again.
i have wifi problems with my sandisc 2 gb , today i will be tryin lixar on 16gb
I also tried the 2GB SD Card, that came with the phone. It doesn't work. The phone shows only 15mb and the free space is full after a few minutes using it.

Yea, phone memory is VERY low but i copied 1,5gb music on my phone with that ****ty zune software and i can play it with the music player on wp7. Looks like the card is in use but only a low ammount for the system i think.
My Kingston 4GB Micro SDHC class 4 works but I'm finding that the Phone can get very laggy. I didn't have this problem when there was no SD card in the phone. I'm guessing its my SD card?
Can everyone post how the phone runs with their SD cards.
My 8GB Class 4 Kingston (SDC4/8GB) work like a charm :>

Hi bro, cheers for that information. Checked the sources you provided. Interesting comments there, one saying that SanDisk withdrew its compatibility Page since they haven't tested their (those) cards on WP7 yet themselves...
So we actually are left out in the wild with as much info as before. So it is even more important that people here report their experience with their cards.
I would strongly recommend, that people pay very close attention to the performance and any interesting detail before they post reports here. This would ensure quality of this thread is high. Maybe you, the OP could add cards, that have been verified by more than one user as working well to the first post? May i suggest that?
cheers...
Kingston 8 GB class 4 SDHC working fine on WP7
Class 4 Sandisk 8GB, works amazingly!, first flash, of course i hard reset it when it was flashed as per win-mo days
Was using Kingston 8gb class 4. Phone picks up the card fine but I was seeing random lags throughout system . It also slowed the market place down to where it was dreadful to download an app. When I removed card. The system is incredibly speedy, and shutdown speeds are very quick.
I am not sure if this is a general problem with these cards but I am going to send mine into Kingston for a replacement, I've read some reviews that there quality control has been hit and miss and some cards don't operate at rated speed.

You may get varying answers with that question but I was using the Sandisk Class 2 16gb card that came with my TMOUS HD2
I ordered a class 2 San disk off Amazon.co.uk for 15.99 I ended up with a class 4 one off them and it works great but I also heard its pritty much a lucky dip with sd cards for wp7.
no way of knowing what cards will work unless you try it, that is the only answer im afraid, class 2 and 4 seem to have a higher chance of working but your just as likely to have a sandisk working as you are having a supermarket own brand
course the flip side is you may get a class 6 or even a 10 working fine too...
its luck, good luck!
Just thought id add my 2 pence, I started with an 8gb class 4 card (brandless) and decided I wanted more memory so I bought a San disk mobile ultra 16gb class 4 from eBay. I was happy with my 8gb cards performance until I replaced it, the speed increase was massive so I would recommend the mobile ultra by San disk my self I picked mine up for £15 with free delivery

a working OS has absolutely no lag, it smooth and very slick, there is a slight touch screen bug that may mean you need to swipe a couple of times but actual OS transitions are incredible, so if you dont have the experience i have mentioned then its likely your card isnt 100% compatible.
I use the stock sandisk 16gb, class 2 sd card that came with my phone. Runs smooth as butter!

The os was slick and smooth on my unbranded card, the speed difference i noticed was when it came to installing apps. I would estimate it takes a quarter of the time to install an app than it did before. Also there was an increase in speed in running some apps for example fruit ninja used to be slow in parts and now runs alot better

oh for god sake, here we go again,
ITS LUCK!! there is no relation to any SD card working on the HD2 for WP7 other than class 2 or 4 seem to have a high chance of success, thats not to say class 6 and 10 wont work, just less likely
Sandisk have cards that work and others that dont, they are not above this problem, two identical cards may not work the same, because the manufacturing process isnt always the same.
in short, ITS LUCK!!
lol
Unless they start advertising it as a WP7 compatible card, which i doubt will happen as devices that run WP7 must have the SD card in or use additional NAND memory, given that mainstream joe public isnt likely to break down their £400 phone to add some memory i doubt very much that SD card manufactures will release a branded product to the highstreet specifically designed for the WP7 devices that can ripped apart to allow an upgrade to the internal SD card.
the very best you can do is find out the batch number of some of the SD cards in the HD7 and attempt to find a high street version sporting teh same number, good luck with that.
My hd2 wp7 doesn't read my 16 gb sandisk class 2 at all. How do I get it to work?
I first used a Kingston 16gb class 6 but had constant freezes, laggy os and constant reboots. Than I used the SanDisk 16gb class 2 and the phone runs just as smooth as my brothers hd7. But I do get occasional reboots still...
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
A-data microSD 16Gb class 6 work on my HD2 with Wp7 2 month without problems
i have Sandisk 16GB class 2
I have an SanDisk 16gb Class 4 and after First Boot nothing happens.
Without SD Card wp7 Starts und run perfectly...
Today I changed my 16GB SD card from a no-name class "I don´t know" to a 16GB class 10 SD card. The Phone ist now much more faster than before, it is nearly as fast as my HTC Mozart.
When you have probs with the SD card, it was a very good hint to format it with the digicam.

buyed Bad SD Card?

Hey,
I am just flashing Windows Phone 7 on my HD2 now... I buyed a "Class 10 16GB Card" from a German Reseller (Media Markt) today. But while Im flashing using DFT I just have a Speed from 61 kbytes/sec... I think its not that fast, is it? Have I buyed a "fake class 10" card or something? what do you think?

Than Ill just go to MM on monday and ask for a refund. I will get one
just started again - was copied over in 1 Minute ca Works great But still some kind of slow
I have both 8GB class 4 and class 10, after 1 week using, Class 4 still best for WP7. With Class 10, I got restart many times
lol this is dragging up some old threads!
righty, quick SD card lesson
WP7 needs quick 4KB RANDOM writes/reads there are various threads showing you want seems to be best
Now, Class 2 and Class 4 have slow sequential speeds, compared to class 6 and 10
The class system is defined by srquential speeds, this is useful info if your using it for a digital camera, the higher the class rating the quicker you can read an write those large files
However windows phone 7 doesnt mess about with large files, it needs to access many smaller files in a random order.
Now, They way in which SOME SD cards get higher sequential speeds (and thus a high class rating) is by working some magic, unfortunately this same magic has a side effct of reducing random access, so the general rule of thumb is this
Class 2-4 will give you a higher CHANCE of working
Class 6-10 will give you less CHANCE of working
I say chance because apart from some PNY class 2 cards there are not any cards out there on the market sold as "high random access speeds"
Its luck, pure an simple, a Sandisk 8GB class 2 might work for one person, but not someone else, the reason for that is almost every card is made differently.
So statistically you will have better luck with a class 2 or 4.....
When moving to Yuki-Xbmod Mango rom I had 4 SD cards
16Gb Transcend Class 4
2Gb Sandisk Class 2
4Gb Kingston Class 4
4Gb "No Name" Card
The "4Gb no-name" card was the only one that worked.
I needed at least 8Gb and I didnt want to buy one and take teh risk so after asking my friends and trying there cards I found a "8Gb no-name card" that worked and had no choice but to swap my 16Gb card for a 8Gb card!!
My experience shows no-name cards work better.

[Q] Compatible 64gb sd card

I'm want to use a 64gb sd card with my hd2 running wp 7.8 but cant find any usefull information in the forums. I've seen several sd cards 64gb class 10 and i was wondering if it would be fully compatible with wp. I've heard something about class 10 not being supported but i cant find any sd cards that have a lower class.

HD2 is too old device and for high capacity cards class 10 is too high.... lover class is better....
recommended is 32 GB class 2... you can try higher but no guaranties..
also for example, one card work fine in HD2 and other buy same card and this card not work on his device... all on HD2 is lottery... sometimes you have luck, sometimes not
if you want enjoy in real WP device buy real WP8.x device... is 100x times better than WP7 on HD2....

Also, are there any cards that have a higher chance of working? Like keningston, sandisk or samsung.
