I would be pretty much interested in the following: What is your guys experience with the well known lag of the note? After several weeks using a rom the note gets pretty laggy after standby sessions...evertime I unlock my note I have to wait a few seconds, until an app starts. This happened to me with stock & several RocketRoms & Kernels and I found many people sharing these experiences.
Will this change with ICS?

I've been using Chainfire's repack for a couple days and it's sped everything up immensely. There's still the dead minor stutter with scrolling in some apps, but all in all it's definitely a huge change.
I'll probably flash Rocket's 1.5 now that the SMemo is working and has the stock ICS messaging app, but is devoid of most of the bloat.
Gonna see if HW acceleration still brings everything up to snuff with a deodex'd rom, too.

You´ve mentioned the stock messaging app, one more question in this context: I haven´t read anything about the calendar...are we able to use the stock cal as well or am I still bound to the S-Planner (which I kind of dislike in comparison to the beautiful ICS one )? I didn´t give the memo integration in the calendar one single shot, don´t need it (yet)...

I've been using ICS since the chinese leak came out. First I used that and then, when Team Rocket ROM came out, I switched to that and have been using it since.
I also have used ICS CM9 alpha by maui for about a week as a daily driver.
All in all, there is a serious speed boost and everything looks nicer (IMO), yet there are also still bugs. The most notable for me is lack of "use wireless networks" setting for GPS location. At the moment the only GPS app I use is Foursquare (since my car is in service now, so no navigation for a while), and I have troubles locking on to GPS. It takes forever (meaning it takes minutes) and sometimes doesn't lock at all. This is in contrast to CM9 alpha I tried before, which would give me a quite good location in a few seconds.
The calendar is ICS stock, I think.. At least it looks like that.
What I don't really like is that there is no stock "contacts" and "dialer". It's a personal preference, of course, but I really like the ICS original apps, especially contacts and phone, which give you hi-res full-screen pic of the person calling. This one doesn't.
All in all, if I compare GB on Note to ICS on Note, ICS is definitely faster, smoother and generally way better. You have to suffer a few bugs and a few Force Closes here and there, at least for now..
If I compare the new leaked ROM and custom ROMs based on that with the CM9 build by maui, I must say that CM9 definitely would win if it didn't have the current major problems like camera not working and a bit more FCs than on leaked one. CM9 alpha seemed smoother and cleaner, it also had stock AOSP ICS apps and for the GPS issue - CM9 locked on almost instantly (2-10 sec, even indoors), way faster than any ROM on GB I tried, it also seemed to have a bit smoother animations and effects. One notable example would be when pinch-zoom-out is used in browser. If you watch a demo/review of proper ICS (for example, Galaxy Nexus) where you can see pinch-zooming in browser, when you zoom out, the previous full screen stays visible as a block, yet the new zoomed-out portion is not yet visible. When releasing fingers, the non-visible area fades smoothly to readable text. (hard to describe, so just watch a video if you don't understand what I mean). In CM9 Note does this, but in the new leak it doesn't fade - the area just suddenly appears.
To sum it up, I'm not going back to GB anymore, using Team Rocket ROM now but waiting eagerly for a new release of CM9 by maui.

try the leaked rom ,, its fine and working good and smoth

I've tried Chainfire repack and Midnote. I prefer Midnote - it solved a few things like apps update on every reboot, notification bar prompting for updates and the fingerprint changed to N7000 instead of I9220.

Midnote is the choice! Definitely!

Gona start flashing soon! But im gonna wait for a few weeks for a stable ics rom

MidNote definitely. I tried RR 1.4, 1.5 & Midnote and Midnote was smoother by a mile. Stuff just works too. GPS, Bluetooth, Camera, Videorecorder, Market, Dialer, etc. I did make a bunch of mods, removing apps, adding others e.g. video player (instead of second gallery) Titanium backup also works awesomely.
BTW anyone thinking about coming from GB to ICS DO NOT USE CWM TO FLASH AN ICS ROM OR KERNEL. You must use Mobile Odin or PC Odin (careful of PC version it will raise your binary counter & give you triangle) or else you will not obtain complete root, and it will be a headache and a half to reflash backwards then forwards again.

Can you give an example of this? Do you mean games that previously couldn't be installed can now be installed?

Thought I'd update.
I haven't tried MidNote so I can't compare but I've been running RR 1.5 and it's fantastic.
Buttery smooth and everything works as intended. Using ADW EX has never been more enjoyable. Used Titanium to remove a lot that I didn't need as well as restore everything and it works without a hitch. I've had solid performance on Wifi too. Bluetooth does seem a touch fickle but that too could be attributed to a low battery on my MBW-150.
The only issues I've had thus far would be that you can't set a wallpaper with forced HW acceleration on and the resolution is reduced when setting the lockscreen wallpaper for some odd reason. Nothing overly major though.
I might try MidNote if I'm really in the mood, but for now I'm pleased with how it's all set up.

I have been using the imilka's TOM and so far I haven't had any big problems. Of course there are some major and minor bugs to be fixed but the de is working really fast on this rom.

yup i would have to agree with him. this rom is by far the closest we can get to cm9 or stock ics. it does have minor bugs such as usb file transfer and video player, and few extras, but everything else works flawlessly. camera works, all other apps work, faceunlock, etc, very fast and smooth. he has even made a flashable zip that can transform the note into an actual tablet form. he had some bugs in version 1, but he fixed them in version 2 (and i must say, the developer is really fast). although there are fc bugs in tablet form, but i'm sure he's going to fix them in the next day or two.
i tried cm9 for couple of days, but the lack of camera, usb mount, and some others took me off it.
before imilka's rom, i was on romow v1 ics. it worked pretty well. but as its not really full clean aosp ics, i couldn't deal with it. although it is pretty much ics themed, except the dialer, messaging, and contacts. but it is smooth and stable nonetheless. faceunlock works, which is really cool.
all other roms (midnote, rocket, etc) i can't deal with. the themes are all kinda "in your face" and i hate that. not really sure about the smoothness and stability on those so can't really comment on that as i havent flashing them really. (maybe once or twice to see how it is, but quickly restored to original rom)
by the way, i hope the devs don't take offense. a little criticism never hurts, and opinions matter

I used redpill recovery to install midnote - worked great, and I didn't have to mess about with odin.
The step by step instructions in the midnote thread were brilliant.

midnote 2.0 for me is smooth and fast for me, fix some of issue that repack has, weird that they are some minor force close at first few boots after flash, then they are gone later. although fixed at 1.2ghz, it definitely smoother than GB clocked at 1.6ghz... havent tried rocket rom yet, but midnote 2.0 is great for me

Using ErwinP's CM-9 ROM, its fast with some issues

Today i installed the CM-9 ROM by ErwinP on my 1 year old Wildfire.
Its good with some issues:
1. Camera doesn't work.
2. gallery has a bug. The albums were visible when we tap and hold on the screen and drag to left or right. when we lift the finger the screen goes blank.
3. menu loading is slow every time.
4. screen lock is present but you have to select slide in the lock screen settings.
For any further issues, i'll update here, as I am new to this forum.
Some facts:
The ROM after install takes 151.8 MB of internal memory.
I have custom MTD partition of 160MB and 15MB cache. I'm getting 290 of internal memory but the system initially is taking 40 MB(I don't know why.)
So, usable is 250MB internal memory.

first two issues you pointed are already given issues. read op to check common issues present as well as replacement app particularly for gallery and some other stuff.
other than that i think i dont have any issues like the other things you mentioned.
try 210/25 custom mtd partitions...it worked for me

@pauch_19: thanks for the information. I will look into alternatives to the bugs. Also you can try my custom MTD settings if you want more internal memory. Can you help me in getting the Market app to work(or any alternative app).

Did you flash Google apps first? Or just install 3.4.4 apk?
You need to flash gapps I think, don't bother with 3.4.4 you should get an auto update to the new play one eventually.

Yeah, you'll need the entire gapps since the market also relies on some extra stuff.
(I had the same problem when I just installed the market .apk on my Elf.)

that's probably the reason why you have more space on your internal memory because you forgot to flash gapps. incase you havent, flash gapps as what scratch and nejc suggested.. its also posted in op. its the latest gapps, about 52 mb in size so you will have to set your mtd partitions to default which is 250. im using the modified version which is just about 19 mb.

After getting the solution suggested by "Scratch0805". I again installed the ROM and along with the gapps at the same time. This time, I have taken the partition as 200 and 20. And after the boot, in terminal i found that system is using 186.4 MB. Still 13.6MB left.
Note: i installed the gapps with the size 51.88MB unmodified zip.
Now, everything works as it should have with camera as the exception.
One thing I want to know, what should be the CPU settings to follow for more than a day of battery life. Previously, i was using ON-DEMAND with 264-672MHz
and getting less than 22hrs of backup in CM7.

mine is 352/729 smartassv2. on minimal - regular use, mine last a day and a half..i really think it depends on phone usage.

@pauch_19 : So, it means you are not using any apps to control the cpu settings.
I also used the smartassv2 governor and i found that backup decreases as it was in on-demand.
But, the smoothness in using gets better in smartassv2. So, can you tell me which governor will be better in terms of battery life and speed or any post where its mentioned.

atm i dont have too many apps which is also i think one reason why my phone is alot smoother, responsive and gives me a very decent battery life. In performance - processor, my cpu frequency minimum is 352 and 729 max. i used this values even when i was on cm7 nightlies coz its much stable..havent tried it at 768 though cpu governor is smartass v2.

I'm using the miui rom which is basically a modified version of cm9, I use setcpu just to set an underclock profile for when the screen goes off. My settings are on demand176/576 and powersave 176/352 as I've noticed that unless i'm straining the cpu by playing angry birds or watching a video with on demand my cpu tends to stay low doing normal things like making a phone call or checking xda but with smartassv2 it seems to jump high even when it doesn't really need to.

I also read a post earlier where members are saying CM7 is better than SplashMOD. If its true, kindly tell me If you know which CM7 nightlies version do i use and how to remove the apps(I once used CM7 # 256,I didn't like the camera UI but it was smooth though) I then, switched to SplashMOD 1.6.

Somewhere in themes and apps section is a thread for miui camera, its a flashable zip which will give you a much nicer camera ui than the cm7 one.
Miui is beautiful as a standalone Rom but gets even better if your prepared to put some effort in, it has the same bugs as cm9, but spend a few hours setting up workarounds and it runs like a dream, I only have 2 problems now 1 is the camera (nevermind tho, I have a digital cam anyway) 2 is if you like theming your phone miui is awesome for it, the only problem is it was designed for hdpi and gingerbread so all the top themes need modding to fit ldpi and ics.

Personally I haven't tried Splashmod so I really couldnt say CM7 is better. I only tried CM7 and Im really impressed at how Cyanogen turned it into a very nice and fast rom. Before trying erwin's CM9 I was on nightly 256 build 14 and everything is working well.

I will try that one also with the miui camera Scratch0805 suggested. If all goes well, at the end of the day I'll be using CM7.

The camera should be fine on any rom I think, splashmod is basically either cm7 or oxygen (can't remember which one its based on atm as the "dev" changes his mind more often than I change my wallpaper ) with some apps removed or substituted for another. Underneath though it will always be cm7 or oxygen.
I'm on miui v4 atm and loving it but I'd recommend till you get into the swing either cm7 nightly 256 or keep an eye on the cm7 thread and look for the unofficial builds which have been built by erwinp and cobje, they may have a few bugs though I doubt anything serious otherwise they wouldn't release it + we are still clinging on to some fairly talented people that will most likely suss out the bugs and let everyone know how to fix them in the thread.

Well CM9 is really great, i love it, but sometimes my phone randomly reboot. Especially when i start phone.apk. Anybody with the same problem? I'm running on 352-710 MHz.
Also my GPS doesn't work.

GB to ICS and back - mini review

My month with a factory unlocked Galaxy S2​
Bought this in mint condition from a friend for about half price with only 1 hour of use, an unwanted upgrade. Came with 2.3.4 as expected, so hooked up to Kies; no update at the time. As is my wont, I used the phone for a few days to get to grips with TouchWiz (TW) and the phone generally. All quite reasonable, no stability issues and TW is not bad by any means.
My thoughts and trials so far then:
Hardware
Well made, light and thin. Slippery, so a black rubbery skin bought and fitted and I popped a spare 8GB microSD card in, not that the phone needs it for my purposes.
Only criticism is the OLED screen, I'm used to higher resolution (Moto and Sony) and 800x480 looks rather "cheapo" in terms of detail on a screen this large, but no deal breaker. What I do find somewhat at odds with the price of the phone is the slight but noticeable shading and colour tints across the screen at low brightness levels and on some backgrounds. Plus, the screen's legibility outside on a bright day is no better than more run of the mill LCD screens. (I mean cheaper!)
My first GB update
I generally root phones straight after flashing a new firmware version, if it isn't already. I had already successfully rooted the original stock 2.3.4 firmware with Zergrush 4 and debloated that ROM.
I was keen to try a later GB version before trying ICS, and I found 2.3.6 for "Open Europe" on Sammobile and downloaded it. I had already tried Kies, so the USB drivers were present and working. I uninstalled Kies on the PC but left the USB drivers alone. Kies and Odin are not good bedfellows. I did a full factory reset on the phone and erased everything, allowed it to reboot and then powered off, got in to download mode and flashed XXKL1 (which is an engineering version and deodexed it seems). Rooted it via Zergrush 4, deleted known bloat and renamed possible bloat to xxx.bak to clean the ROM for my own usage, and deleted that very annoying start-up sound. Downloaded all the apps I normally use (about 22 of them), including the excellent CPU Spy to check for deep sleep.
I used/charged the phone over the next couple of days to let the OS bed in. No problems encountered at all, and a very pleasing battery life of 30+ hours of light use, with syncing and GPS, 3G, WiFi always on and occasional BT. Magic! Only thing I did is change the Modem to LPR - the KI3 Modem that came with the ROM is not quite as good at holding weak signals. Only just though...
My first ICS update
So, good phone, stable and very usable ROM in 2.3.6. Time had come to try this new ICS thing. Downloaded the LPQ version and installed it, after a full wipe, via Odin. Not impressed by all the automatic installation rubbish at first boot... Rooted via a hot boot CWM and SU/Busybox successfully and did all the same debloating and app installation as GB 2.3.6. Spent some time getting orientated and used to the new menus and so on.
Over the next day or so, I let the ROM settle and began using the ROM - I changed the Modem to LPR as LPQ was not as good, perception wise. ROM was stable and usable, didn't really look or feel much different from 2.3.6 and was worse on battery - I would say 18 hours at best with the same usage pattern.
Absolutely hate the new Exchange thing for live.com email.... real pain usability wise and battery unfriendly.
My second ICS update
So, not overly impressed with LPQ, although it was usable, I decided to try LP7, the UK generic one. Went through the same process as above, and again swapped the Modem from LPS (awful!) to LPR.
No obvious differences at all. Battery life was as poor, but it was usable.
My first CM trial - CM9
So, somewhat disillusioned by Samsung's ICS implementation, I decide to look around for another "mature" ROM. CM9 fitted the bill (I have used CM6 before on another phone) and was smack bang up to date in terms of kernel, AOSP and G Apps. After my usual clean deck start, installed fine, 23/04 build.
At first, I was quite impressed as I could configure more and to my liking. The ROM was stable and I set the phone up with the usual Apps and deleted some useless stuff (like GenieWidget).
Swapped Modem out to LPR - bit of a theme going on here...
I liked the fact that the Spirit FM radio worked (so bought the Pro version as it is that good). The ROM is very usable and never got bogged down, BUT, for reasons I never fully determined, the battery life would start OK and then decline faster during the day. I never saw more than 12 hours life, again using as per my normal pattern and after a few days to settle. There appeared to be various background activities going on that were preventing deep sleep sometimes, but BBS was not really showing me what. Note that I only use BBS as a last resort as it can increase battery use...
No other real problems, but the soft key backlights wouldn't play with NoLED and were somewhat counter-intuitive. A bit trivial, but a mess.
My second CM trial - CM7
I like GB, it is mature and well understood, so CM7 RC 2 was therefore of some appeal. It had been developed over months and must therefore be fairly sorted. Surely.
Installed without issue on a cleaned platform as usual, including G Apps. Did the usual debloat and installed the usual Apps from the Market/Play, and some that were missing, like GMail. LPR modem was already there, Hooray! Spent rather longer fiddling with the settings in CM7 than CM9 since they were less obvious at first, to me anyway.
Switched off and put the phone on wall charge overnight and was rather shocked to find the phone was noticeably warm and displaying "Kernel Panic" in the morning. The phone had only charged by about 5% in total (to 64%). Worry Worry. I put the phone on USB charge until 100% without incident.
Started to use the phone as normal, the phone UI and operation was very good, fluid even. But, first problem I had was in the car. I paired BT fine, as usual, and made a phone call. After the call, I couldn't end the call on the car or phone - it had locked up. Oh dear.
Later, I tried the FM Radio during my daily walk - doesn't work, so why is it there? I tried Spirit FM - no way would it work. Oh dear.
The following day, I noticed that the battery life was amazing! I had never seen this phone sip juice like this. Deep sleep was always easily achieved. That was until the afternoon. I noticed that the battery level was declining at a much higher rate than earlier. I hadn't done anything different, so BBS was called in again. Nothing obvious shown but I kept seeing the GPS icon winking at me from the Notification bar, and continually. I always keep GPS on, but for some reason on this ROM, no GPS signal meant the ROM just kept trying. I played with various settings like Location etc. and managed to stop this odd behaviour, but this was too silly. I use a Smartphone for all the smart features. This wasn't very smart at all.
CM7 was my biggest disappointment of all the above ROM trials. It was the lightest and most promising, and yet the least reliable or functional. Which is a huge shame...
Today...
I'm now back on KL1 2.3.6, and it just works fine - day after day.
The future for me?
I would really like to use CM9 (or CM7 for that matter). Avoiding problems
Always data reset and wipe before doing anything major from one ROM to another, or follow the installation guide for any specific differences in approach.
Avoid Titanium Backup like the plague - it invariably leads to functional issues later if you cross flash. Use Google and/or airdroid for everything, it all just works. So many friends and other forums I contribute to have had too many backup issues to count. Go clean. Forget about Google paranoia.
ES File Explorer is very useful and recommended.
Don't bother "calibrating" the battery - it's an outdated practice and useless. Just use the phone normally, and anyone who claims the battery life is "great" 1 hour after flashing a newly announced ROM is a fool. Likewise NEVER fully discharge a Li-Ion battery. ICS ROM core LPQ to LP8 are largely all the same, just variants of the same thing for different markets. Some users believe they perform differently.
Custom kernels and ROMs are always work in progress and should be treated as such. Check out the number of revisions. Some kernel cookers are (welcome) enthusiastic amateurs that assume more is better and cram "fixes" in that the professional salaried software engineers have mysteriously missed. If you only need your stock kernel to be insecure, learn how to make it so. You are running Linux on your box, right?
Deodexing is not a means to improve performance, on the contrary.

Except CM9, I don't really think there is any real development going on. Most are just cooked up roms OR stuff taken from the CM9 tree and implemented OR so called fixes that have actually broken something else OR just debloated rooted official firmware (that AFAIK is pretty easy to do with the fantastic dsixda's kitchen or on a rooted rom).
Now fanboy's may flame as much as they wish to, but seriously a stable CM9 (hopefully..!) or a VR 4.0 is all I am willing to wait for.
Till such time VR 3.0 it is.

I don't agree with your final thought. Different ics rooms have really different feels. E.g. Look at scrolling from lpq to lp7.....and there are numerous others as well. If u want more specific thoughts and feedback, just browse through different ics threads in this section..

Hmm... I have browsed through the sections, and tried various "revisions" or versions of Samsung ICS today while jotting this lot down, and my view, honestly, is there is no real difference. That isn't to say there isn't, I just can't see or feel it. I do accept that playing with 3 ROMs in a few hours is less than ideal. And a drag!
I suppose if someone could deconstruct the ROMs properly and thoroughly...

ICS/AOSP/AOKP/CM9 have improved over the last few weeks, but I'm back on GB, and will probably stay with it until I get the SGS3.
May be subjective, but for me the GB stock browser, camera and dialler are streets ahead of what the rest can offer. Scrolling is smoother too. And I like/need a radio.

Seems like you and the OP only tried the AOSP/AOKP roms? Give the roms based on the latest official a try.
The dialer is still as good as always (unchanged), camera is actually improved with higher bitrate recording and the ics stock browser...is untouchable at the moment in my opinion. (Granted I use "ICS Browser+" from the market which uses the best ui in a browser I've encountered)
I currently use Dynamic's ICS rom and it would be extremely difficult for me to go back to GB at this point.

While I agree that in terms of loading websites, ics default browser is a little bit faster, scrolling and pinch and zooming is much smoother with stock gb browser. Also the dialer is worse on ics as it has removed the contacts section which means I have to put both the dialer and contacts shortcut on the dock.

I'm using Wanamlite v11.1, Siyahkernel v3.1, and Apex Launcher.
A winning combination in my opinion, that is now at least as good as the best GB ROMs in terms of battery life. 7 hours standby with 30 minutes screen time and i'm still on 87%.
In terms of fluidity and performance I think ICS /w Apex beats GB handsdown.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I avoid ROM mix ups, I can do that myself. The ones I have looked at have had some very dubious scripts and additions. I usually look at build.prop first, and generally find all sorts of hybrid attempts at adding stuff that is completely wrong. Lines taken from websites, other phones and so on.

Depends, it was like you say in Gingerbread days, not with ICS WanamLite nor Dynamic, only tried these + CM9
I am using Dynamic 1.4 LP9, it is as smooth and fast as CM9, but everything working because it is Samsung based
I tried the included NEAK and Speedmod kernels, similar performance and very good battery life, only 3% drain overnight, I dont play with processor tweaking

Dialer is laggy if you compare it with GB. CM9 variants have slightly more response dialers but overall, GB dialer is way more responsive. There is a small but noticeable lag when pressing a key and the time it takes to register on ICS (CM9 & stock).
Camera recording with stereo voice recording...! Seriously how many people do shoot video with a phone's camera? For facebook uploads mono audio is just fine..
Browser is a definitive improvement yes, and the desktop mode is welcome but browser mods have been available on GB since long.
It is not that ICS is bad. It is actually very good, but the way it has been implemented on S2 is downright ridiculous...! And not one stable vanilla build isn't really helping..

This is something I have been contemplating for quite some time now, quite possibly the last month. The only real thing stopping me is that for some reason alot of games (eg dead space and modern combat 3) don't seem to like it when i change roms, and even though all the ingame data is there, sometimes it decides I have to re-download.
I do miss it alot though.. and also red pill kernel
I might end up doing a backup of current my CM9 and take the plunge sometime soon. I've been using CM9 since around feb and lately I think my interest has plateaued and now I'm just beginning to get frustrated with little lags that are popping up more frequently (probably due for a wipe mind you!). The only thing about villiam rom is the bloody touch wiz launcher.. I just don't like messing with the launcher roms were made for either.

Mass lols to be had at the fact that a majority of the time they would be played on the device through the mono loudspeaker too

I also go back for GB..becoz i feel that ics so laggy at dialer,and PES2012 freeze and cant play on ics..but in GB all working great..

Currently trying ninphetamine kernel (as per VR3 - thanks for the heads up) on my fave stock KL1 more for interest than anything. Seems OK, no obvious difference from stock running as is apart from it being insecure, need a couple of days to evaluate in real life use.

Bloody good post. I've been using CM9 since the video recording bug was solved, and thats probably the longest I've used any ROM on the SGS2, I really like AOSP but the problem is it does still have quite a few bugs, and isn't quite as fast or as battery friendly as I remember the likes of Hyperdroid v6 being.
This makes me tempted to go back to GB. For me, it is still the ultimate for a daily driver. But I'm lazy so I'll probably stick with CM9.

ICS dialer laggy , doesn't happen to me on stock LP9 or Dynamic based on LP9 and CM9 is as smooth as they come. Whilst mono audio is fine for you I quite like having stereo audio. Choice, not limitations my friend

Cheers for that - I would definitely recommend the 2.3.6 KL1 off Sammobile if you want a solid GB.

Dude, if you have not tried CheckRom RevoHD V6, then you have not tried the BEST gingerbread rom for sgs2.
This is why I can not use ICS (yet). Checkrom is just too perfect of a Rom.
Try it, tweak it to your liking, use it for a week or 3 then try and go back to stock.

[Q] Stock Ics Revert or solution - query?

Hi guys,
All this bootloader stuff is confusing me coming from an S2..
So far i have,
1. Installed custom bootloader and rooted using After OTA
2. Dont remember how, but installed Twrp 2.2
3. Installed GodMachine 81kernal using the goo manager app.
I have not used the tablet much, but have bought it recently. It came with HC and got updated to 4.0.3 as soon as I checked for an update.
The tablet was fine, had no issues and was running smoothly. Maybe it was the Amoled effect or a higher ppi in the phone, i felt the animations were a tiny bit juddery while entering the menu for the first time.
Thought it was maybe due to lack speed, hence did all of the above.. oc.ed to 1.5 ghz
Even after the OC, the UI felt the same, used antutu as a benchmark. As soon as i installd the mods, tablet became very laggy and choppy, hence deleted the Z-ram file.
On stock ~ 5000 and above.
After mods - no oc - 4800~4900. Sometimes the scores go as low as 1200.
Oc - 6800~7000, as earler scores some times go as low as 1100-1300.
Also.some times the tablet becomes laggy soon after starting and i have newly noticed that everything on the Sd card is getting duplicated, i.e another copy is being created with the same file names and same size files, but diff icons.
Since the all the above did not yeild any usable results for me - I think the tablet and the stock ICS are fine, the UI thing is an android trait (project butter in Jelly bean eliminates the UI thing i am talkibg abt)
Tested an s3 on Ics, same UI thing that i felt, but not that noticable due to screen type and size
Hence, i feel reveting everything back to stock would be a gud idea for me as i just play nomal games and watch movies, even though i like the idea of 1.5 ghz X 2 when wanted for benchies.
So ti get back to the stock 4.0.3, which file should i use? there are soo many of them.
1. Which one.s the latest one? Pre rooted, deodexed and zip alligned also would be helpful.
2.How do i install CWM? Cause when on stock, i tried getting into the recovery, an android image showed up nothing happened. I prefer to have CWM over others cause it is familiar.
3. What advanteges will an unlocked bootloader give over a locked one for skme one who prefers a stock rom? Is it manditory for rooting?
4. Any clues about the Sd card issue? also the galary is gettin my google images up, the sync is off, but j cannot turn iff the jndividual syncs.
5. What package do u suggest for some one like me - i do not want the tablet to freeze and just want a smooth Stock like experience along with any benifits if any (but not at the expense of the battery)

Disabled Acer Meida, 3D photo viewer and disbled the photo syncing. Tablet is gud and fluidic now.
But while watching youtube @ 720p using Dolphin browser, the video sometime freezes and comes back again. Audio is fine. any ideas why this might be happening ?

Thats also whats happenning to me I own an s2 and this bootloader is killing me but not only that, the support here on this section is pretty low, Im seeing a lot of ppl with unanswered questions unlike my beloved s2 section here on xda, so I might not root my tab after all due to the slow and maybe none supported helpers here to help you.

flashing the unpatched bootloader will also flash cwm as well.

And this attitude is the reason why some people don't wish to help. You have to understand;
1. Everything here is free, and nobody places any pressure to use it.
2. Most issues that users have, concerning bootloaders and CWM, have already been answered multiple times. (search button)
3. People have School, job and family, and devote what little free time to help the others. If a person doesn't respond to a question, it's usually because;
a. They don't know the answer.
b. The problem is a repetitive one already answered (search button)
c. They just don't have the time.
To compare the 500 forum to the S2, is comparing apples to oranges. GS2 users outnumber 500 users by probably >100-1, so it makes sense there are more users in that forum.
A lot of people put a lot of behind the scenes work getting mods, kernels, bootloaders, apps, etc working for the 500/501. Not to mention they do a lot of PM support that you just don't see.
So give some folks a break. Most questions here get answered.

This is normal behavior. Use of a third party launcher might clear this.

You can OC to 3ghz and the UI will always feel the same. OC has no effect on the UI, but only on games and some graphic intensive apps. You seem to misunderstand what OC does. The large benefit, is UV and some of the newer governors like lultzactive and savagedzen. These are designed to save battery without a performance loss. Also, depending on governor, benchmarks can actually decrease the more you run them. And benchmarks, are never to be trusted.

This is normal as the android system is obviously doing something it couldn't do when it was sleeping or turned off. The ghost icons are pretty normal, as I have them also. You can see which ones are the real files. No explanation for it, but I'm used to it. This is just how "windows" sees things. I would guess it's kernel/bootloader related, but if tht's the worse that happens, I can live with it.

If you only want benchmarks, and aren't interested in gaming or battery life, why bother OC? The primary reason to OC/UV is to save battery and have better GPU performance.

Disabling those, and others, is always a good start. Probably explains a lot of your problems. As with Dolphin and Youtube, good luck. Not much better browser, although Dolphin has a habit of just closing out.

Got a chance to test two Asus Terga 3 Tablets, both factory reset, one updated to JB & one on ICS.
Did the UI thing side to side and - woila !!! Project butter Shines )
I will post my developments in this thread, cause in a few days i will finish my engagements and will become free.

Naw, it's ok Mate.
Everybody thinks that OC is the way to go. But really, it only benefits games, some films, and battery (UV). The 50x series is pretty good about battery once you learn battery management with the help of a good UV kernel. (but hey, I like benchmarks also )
As with the momentary "stutter" when first going into the apps drawer, I can say this, get a third party launcher. Or, do some V6 Supercharge.
Also, as with my 701, under ICS 4.0.4 I had the same stutter. The JB update fixed it.

To compare the 500 forum to the S2, is comparing apples to oranges. GS2 users outnumber 500 users by probably >100-1, so it makes sense there are more users in that forum.
A lot of people put a lot of behind the scenes work getting mods, kernels, bootloaders, apps, etc working for the 500/501. Not to mention they do a lot of PM support that you just don't see.
So give some folks a break. Most questions here get answered.

On other topic I finally flash my tab, and it was way easier than my s2 when i did it, everything was 1 click installation and Afterota helped a lot, thank you, ill be around.

Most of my UI thingies solved !!!!
Just installed the Nova launcher, meddled with the settings and UI is now as smooth as silk..

I noticed that every time i start up the tablet, every thing is laggy- even the audio.pop's
I found the reason for this- the governer, as soon as i change it to anything else, every thing becomes smooth...
If the interactive governer is set after changing it initially, it still remains smooth... one can just select anyother governer (lulzactive) and use set on boot option in cpu master it anyone else has the same problem..
I went for a clean up and messed it a bit
First installed a stock 3.1 from the thread mentioned in the earlier post... but turns out a non WW package does not update OTA if outside the Us (Australia), by this time messes the recovery, hence ended up installing cwm all over again ( thanks to Moscow Desires thread+latest frimware file ) and installed the latest stock 4.0.3 + apex launcher..

Recent JB ROMS

In the last couple of days I've had a look at a few different JB ROMs. In fact, at this moment in time I have 4 nandroid backups which are all pretty much fresh installs, except for my most commonly used apps and a couple of small games.
These nandroids are:
1.SLIM BEAN 2.7 with semaphore 2.4.0s
2.HELLY BEAN latest with devil 1.6.1
3.X-BEAN 3.0 with semaphore 2.4.0s
4.TSUNAMI X 2.1 with semaphore 2.4.0s
A couple of months ago there was more noticeable differences with ROMs, but it seems to me that now, performance wise all the bugs are getting ironed out.
IMO any of the above ROMs are worthy of daily use. Slim Bean is my usual, great fast rom, I do wish it was a little prettier though.
Tsunami looks the best visually I think, just little things like colour icons in the settings menus instead of the usual black and white, inverted framework and gapps built in, plus faded wallpaper in app drawer (nova launcher). I know you can do all of that in any ROM yourself bar the coloured menus, but tsunami has all of that built in on install.
Helly Bean was the first JB ROM I used when i upgraded from GB a while ago and I thought it was very good, but in this test it was the only ROM that I had a single problem with, there were a good few times where the screen timed out and switched off as it should but then would not wake up when power button was pressed leaving me no choice but to pull battery and reboot. This was maybe just a problem with my particular installation possibly, maybe a reinstall would have fixed it.
I'm going to spend a few days with each of them again and see how I get on.
I'm not going to benchmark them, I'm not interested in numbers, I'm interested in how they feel to live with.
Things may change if I start filling each one up with apps and data, but performance of each was just the same in terms of UI smoothness.
I shall report back, and go into more detail about functionality differences. Only really first impressions, I've not had the time to go in depth as yet.
But I feel myself being strangely sucked in by tsunami, if its performance holds up as well as slimbean when I start cramming the apps and data on.

One more thing. Everyone should use pimp my ROM v2. I noticed definite improvements in web page loading speed at least. My pages even on fast WiFi used to do this.
When I clicked 'go', the loading bar would fly up to about a centimetre from the end and the page would look completely loaded.
Then it would sit like that for a second or 2 before it would complete, and let me use the page.
Straight after installing PMR, this delay was gone. I know for sure it was PMR that made the difference because I repeated the problem and fixed it another 3 times when I was installing all the other versions of JB to try them out.
Web pages are much snappier. And if PMR fixed this issue for me, then I trust all of its other tweaks are probably doing some good too.

I have the same problem you had with your Helly Bean, but it is on my stock 2.3.4 but hell, il go for JB when your finished with your testing .

Remember and back up your efs folder!
You can jump straight from GB to JB missing ICS, but you will have to replace your efs folder with the one that you cleverly backed up Because your phone will lose its IMEI. But it takes 2 secs to copy/paste the folder back...
Otherwise you can go GB/ICS/JB, but its unnecessary if you have your efs backed up.
Many JB ROMs are running super slick and look great, so if I were you I'd be throwing that old mouldy loaf of gingerbread out.

Hmm what is the main diff between those 2 roms :-?

Performance wise i cant tell the difference, they both run super slick. Only because I'm a flashaholic that I tried out some others apart from some I'd seen before.
I'm just kind of starting to lean towards tsunami because the way it looks, without any modding, the way the menus are all set out seems better (opinion), and its also nice that its just 1 file to install, especially with new 2.5, with gmail 4.2 inverted, inverted framework, and inverted new play store with delete from 'my apps' etc all built in on install. No install CM10 first, no install this file and mount this, then install this and do this etc. 1 file. Wipe phone, choose zip, click and done. Also, I've never once had a problem like when you install gapps and have the device not compatible, or any issue with anything in fact.
I just installed it and it all worked. First time.
I love slim too though. I'm thinking of keeping them both as nandroids so I can flick between them.

Hello,
Well after a long time on carrier stock GB I
took the step and went for CM 9.1 stock first then I flashed Semaphore kernel 1.3.0.
Played around with different settings and, during overclock testing, got in bootloop. Reflashed 9.1 stock then tried again semaphore.
Long story short now I am on CM 10 m2 stock and I love it. Much faster than 9.1 and so far rock solid. Battery time is great.
