[Q] Video recording bitrate in motorola defy:problems - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am running MIUI(2.4.13) on my motorola defy(green lens) with class2 8gb memory card.
the default bitrate for video recording is 2.1mb/sec which is lower than the bitrate of official android 2.2 which had 4.0mb/sec.(its really smooth at 24fps)
the thing is i tried changing the bitrate to 5.0 mb/sec through media_profiles.xml file.but when recording at 5.0 mb/s the video starts to jerk,
showing duplicate frames, stucks and, in whole the video is not smooth.
this happens after 30secs or 1minute of recording.the video is saved ok at 5.0 mb/s but its not smooth.
i saw in the media_profiles that the default bitrate for 720p rec is 10mb/s.
but when i change the video recording to 5.0mb/s at VGA its jerks
Why is that? is it beacuse of the low speed memory card?
or is it the processing power/buffer size.
i read as some guy getting vga recording to work fine at 8mb/s sec,but i can't.
video recording at 2mb/s bitrate sucks
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Video recording at 320x240 on the S200

Hi ! Is there a way to record video at 320x240 with the Prophet ? (my unit is the S200). Possibly by using software or something ? (normally the max resolution for video recording on the S200 is 176x144, which is kind of strange considering that S100 and other HTC/Qtek even older models are capable of recording at 320x240 resolution)
Many thanks.
anybody ?
Coolcamera can switch resolution up to 640x480.
Unfortunately the framerate drops to 10fps @320 and 4fps @640 what is not so great.
I am wondering also why other devices are so much better with video..maybe therer is a different solution out there using also the Intel graphicsprozessor onboard.
If anybody has a better solution i am interested in it also.
there was a bug once
before i upgraded ROM it showed 320x240 video resolution option but did record in the small (140x80 or sth). After upgrading I thought they would fix it but instead they just removed the option!!
are new's about de SW to use a 320x240 video resolution ??
use CoolCamera, you can use 320x240 but the framerate will probably be low. I found that framerate depends especially on SD card speed. So the SD card is the bottleneck. If you use hi-speed SD card framerate should be accetable. Good ligting is also very important

mpeg4 800x480 wvga http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGSZ-cpL_us
audio quality doesnt seem to change at all except with mpeg4 800x480 where it seems to improve a little bit.
I'd repost these samples here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711808
Thanks!
my eyes must be playing tricks on me as i don't see that much of a difference...

Focus Maximum FPS for video playback

I searched here an on the net and I am having difficulty determining what the maximum FPS is for video playback on this device.
I see everywhere that it records at a max of 23 FPS.
The reason for my inquiry is I am using Super to convert some files to WMV format to play on the phone. I set it at 30 FPS and the movie played back almost flawlwssly but it looked as if it was struggling when fast movements were shown on screen (blocky areas, hazing).
Does anyone know the max video playback FPS of this device?
Zune converts videos for you. Not sure FPS but they always look good to me.

Click to collapse
If this is the same SAMOLED that is in the Captivate then the native refresh rate of the panel is 56 if I can remember correctly. Hit up the Captivate forums to double check. Just look in one of the benchmark threads.
Also in Zune Desktop software you can disable the 'automatically re-encode videos" settings if you want to do it your self.
I played back a 1.4 GB MKV (HD 720p) without any issues so the phone has the power to decode H.264 in hardware.

These 2 tests are from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314811.
The thread is about improving the X8's camera to record videos on mp4 format.
And so far it records on mp4 format and its laggy and choppy sometimes ill meybe improve it later.
Wasn't it m4v format or something? At least that's what the flashable zip says..
Yes,it is .m4v video format,really improve audio recording,but lags a lot!
In .m4v video format audio quality and Video quality both are best but Audio/Video synchronization is worst.
Video is slow while sound is Fast.
I tried all possible values for best sync but not successful.
I have got 1 sec lag in A/V sync in .m4v.
Try mine
Try this, its had been modified to best ratio by me, no lag when recording, playing, video-audio interleave(either is faster) on my class 4 sdcard. NOTE: Lower class sdcard maybe cannot use this tweak at all because of write speed of the card cannot catch up with the data is being write into it.
Anyway its around 2.8 mbps h264 640 x 480 30fps Vid, 128 kbps 48000 Hz 1 channel (mono) aac audio and in m4v format.
Low profile:
around 1.4 mbps h263 640 x 480 30fps Vid, 64 kbps 48000 Hz 1 channel aac audio and in 3gp format.
I have attached as Flashable CWM zip
P.S: IF you have higher class sdcard you would not be here report this problem feel free to go and modified the value that fit your sdcard speed perfectly. MAKE BACKUP BEFORE MODIFYING THE VALUE, AS GOT ONCE I MODDED "EXTRA" VALUE AND GET SCREW-UP ENDING AS BOOT LOGO STUCK. OR DELETE THE FILES USE ADB AND TRY AGAIN

Recording in 240 fps mode gives 7 or 3 fps files

Hi.
I'm having issues with video recording.
This folder contains 3 video files showing my problem.
h t t p s://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_lMdWi3lpVOeGJ4Q1U4Ymc3blk&usp=sharing
They were recorded in the three different video modes video with Google Camera.
Right clicking and checking properties shows the files playing in 29.97, 7.45 and 3.72 frames per second.
I would expect the file to playback at 29.97 on my computer. Speeding these files up to the framerate they're supposed to be recorded at does not give me realtime footage.
I have previously recorded in 240 fps mode and the results were quite good. That file played back at 29.97 fps when transfered to my computer and I could edit it as expected.
Speeding up 8x gave me realtime video.
Any ideas on whats wrong? I've cleared data for Google Camera but it didn't help.
