Dear all,
First of all, many congratulations for the great forum and thanks for all the support given here.
Now, I recognise that problems similar to mine have been discussed elsewhere, so I apologise for opening a new post, however with all the material that I could find, I got a little bit lost, so here is the story.
Some 5 days ago, the screen on my HTC Elf stopped responding to any sort of touch. The green, red and action buttons were working but no touch screen.
I have read several posts, and concluded that one possible problem was a corrupted ROM, so I downloaded latest Onyx ROM and installed it. Phone was upgraded successfully and screen started to work again.
However, the first time I switched it off and then turned it on again, it did not boot up. It gets to the point where it displays Smart Mobility and then switches itself off. The orange light then comes on for about 6-7 seconds, then off for 1-2 seconds, and then on again......
Now it does not seem to be able to charge, but if I switch it on with the camera button on I am able to get to the ROM screen (the 'rainbow screen'), so I have hope that it is not dead.
What can I do to attempt to revive the phone please? Is there a sort of 'format' that can be given so that one can start flashing ROM, etc. from scratch?
Many thanks.
PS: Except for the above, I consider myself as a total beginner in this area.
Hearing that the touchscreen started working again after flashing the ROM, I would conclude it's a software-issue.
In the rainbow-screen, what SPL does your phone run? If it ends with 'cmon', you've installed HardSPL. That means you can flash your phone from the rainbow-screen. Given that your phone won't boot, you should try to flash a new ROM from the rainbow-screen. But first, you have to confirm that you've installed HardSPL.
Good luck!
@mrqips - many thanks for your reply.
The screen says that:
IPL 2.20.0002
SPL 1.11.0000

Sorry Buddy.. It seems that you didn't use HardSPL, unfortunately you won't be able to flash any other ROMs..
Yet.. You might be able to use the Gold Card Method.. Give it a try and see what would happen..
Another point is.. I'm very interested to know how did you flash Onyx ROM.. without using HardSPL nor USPL (as obvious from your IPL), I would say that you used the "White Screen Method" which is by the way.. the least safest way..
Hope That Helped...
Thanks for your feedback.
Actually, I happened to be reading the post by @sbettencourt in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595856&highlight=smart+mobility
Here, a step-by-step approach is given to recover the phone:
"1º [PRJ] Unbricker ROM discovered (wildcard CID and Model ID)
2º Pick any shipped ROM from this thread:
If you have one P3450 -> here
If you have one P3452 -> here
After this, with luck and good work you recover the phone...
3º Then you must do CID_Unlock... You can search how to do it on Wiki or if you want i got one steps how to do it right here and you can see one video with cid_unlock on my signature..." (pasted from the thread)
I did Step 1, and updated it with the unbricker ROM using romupdateutility, and the phone was recovered! It could load, get to Windows Mobile, etc.
Then, unfortunately, when I did Step 2 (mine is a P3450) so I downloaded a ROM from the page indicated, I tried to update the shipped ROM using romupdateutility, but as soon as it got to 2% it failed saying that the vender ID is invalid.
Now, I don't seem to be able to update it with anything - not even the unbrick ROM. What a shame I almost go there.....

You put the shipped ROM in the same folder with RUU??? Why??? You don't need to do that...
You only need to double click on shipped ROM and the installation process begins...
@sbettencourt,
actually yes what I did was to click on the update directly.
I downloaded the file RUU_Elfin_DOPODASIA_WWE_2.20.707.1R_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_RED_Ship_Reduced.exe and executed that directly.
However, now, even this one is stopping at 2%.
Is there any hope, or have I destroyed the phone?
Thanks.
If you can't flash the Shipped ROM, you have now to try the Gold Card... Follow the steps in that Gold Card thread...
Hello everyone,
I finally managed to revive the device, by flashing it with a 'correct' shipped ROM, which did not give any errors on updating. Big thanks for all your support - you are the best!
As this starts to get addictive, and because I am now running a ROM version which dates to 12/11/2007 (2.27.468.1B WWE), what are the suggestions for upgrading the ROM please? My device is an ELF0100.
Thanks again.
Coool Now try to keep him alive
Very true
I managed to flash it with Onyx Ultimate 4.8 (10/07/2009) and it seems to be performing splendidly.
Thanks for all your help.
Good Job
I know apparently this isnt the best way to flash your HD2, but im stuck without any access to windows. (mac user)
i cant seem to find step by step instructions on how to do this properly....
is there a link somewhere i can get to so i can figure this out? isnt it as simple as copying the custom.nbh file to the root of my memory card, and entering the bootloader screen?
Sorry for all the noob questions.
take ruu_signed.nbh, copy it to sdcard formatted fat32 (2gb cards seen to work best) rename it leoimg.nbh, boot to bootloader and it should detect the image and ask if you want to flash.
it still requires hspl, unless you have a goldcard(easier to borrow a pc for two minutes to apply hspl than make a goldcard)
the phones already been flashed with hspl.
i just want to change the rom!
Thanks for the tips im going to go for it right now

Hi
One advice you have to remember is DO NOT flash any official rom with this method. If you do it will replace the hspl and you will be stuck.
Good luck

True, flashing a stock rom via sd card will overwrite hspl with the new stock spl, but you will not necessarily be stuck. That used to be the case before hspl2, as the original hspl only worked with spl 1.42.0000. HSPL2 now works with 1.42.0000, 1.66.0000 or 2.08.0000 spl's.
or just throw your mac away and buy a PC
What many forget is that you actually need an SD card and not SDHC, as those will not work.
understand u already flash hspl,
microSD / microSDHC will work as long it is formatted with FAT32 fs.
just copy the *.nbh to SD root & rename it to LEOIMG.nbh.
enter bootloader, follow on-screen.
if bootloader cant find any rom image, run scandisk & try again.
gd luck.
I just flashed this rom.
It seemed to be fine. It installed and looked a-ok.
I had a look around and every thing looked as it should.
I added "26.4 column Start menu.cab" and now the phone won't reboot at all.
It gets to the HTC white screen, and then hangs.
Any ideas?
Is it a conflict between the 4 columns app and the ROM?

when you say "just flashed this rom", what rom?
also, did you read ALL the first few posts in the chefs thread? chances are it requires a specific radio version
either that or you didn't do a hard reset after you flashed.
apologies, I replied in here when I thought I was in the HTC Energy thread.
The device rebooted after the flash.
Does that not count as a hard reset?
samsamuel said:
Is it T Mobile usa? if so, then you have flashed an incompatible rom.
tmous (T Mo US) phones will opnly take roms based on 2.10, the rom you have installed is 1.66 (D 1. 66. Kumar)
Kumar has a rom in the Tmo US section based on 2.10, you should use that, not the one in teh normal hd2 section.
With power off, press and hold "volume down", tap the power key and continue to hold vol down until you get the three coloured screen, connect to usb, wait for word 'serial' to become 'usb' and flash a compatible rom.

I've just been digging through and saw this, I have the 3 colours and USB.
Gonna try and reflash and see what happens.
These forums own!
edit: re-flashing it went the same way, would hang on boot.
I've gona back to using:
_HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship
for the moment.
I'll look and see what it is I missed that stopped the energy rom from working as advertised.
Try installing the recommended Radio

I ran into the same problem and all I had to do was to get the phone into Bootloader and then flash the radio recommended by ROM Cook.
also the same problem
I have also this problem, but I think it's in the rom, when I installed the rom, everything seems ok, but after a reset, the screenthat I get is the white HTC screen.
After a hard reset it is ok, but after a reset it is the same problem.
Then I thought, i take an older rom, but when I've installed the rom he is automatic installing the cab file's at the end of the installation, and he's going to automatic reset the HD2. After the reset I have the same problem as with the new rom.
So the biggest problem is that I can't install another rom or radio because the rom don't start for 100%, and when I do a hard reset, after the reset at the end of the installation I get the white HTC screen.
What can I do, can I fix this problem?

RTFM. These constant posts about white screen hangs are really getting frustrating. Does nobody follow the forum rules of searching any longer? There's nothing wrong with the rom, the user on the other hand I'm not so sure of.
YOUR RADIO VERSION IS WRONG

If you bothered to read even just the last 5 pages of the Energy thread you would have seen probably 20 mentions of the problem. Energy rom won't work with a x.xx.51.xx radio.
Hello everybody,
I've been following the instructions on addictivetips (id link the page but can't). HSPL3 is installed and I've ran the ROMUpdateUtility.exe and all was well.
But ran into a problem at number 4 on the list. When I try and boot the phone up to select USB Flasher, all I get is a pink circle on screen and a frozen phone.
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi,
I suggest you use this very useful help thread here.
Read it carefully, then read it again.
Before you go on, have you flashed a new Radio yet? It needs to be a .50 radio to work properly. See the above thread for guidance. If you don't, you might irreperably damage your device.
Once you have a Radio and MAGLDR 1.11 flashed, you can then flash your Android NAND ROM.
You must complete these steps in the right order. If not you will have a very fine HD2 paperweight.
Thanks for the quick reply!
This isn't my phone, I said I'd take a look at it for a guy at work who started going through that guide but didn't finish it.
After talking with him I had a horrible feeling the phone was bricked as he had flashed some things and not others and just carried on!
But it's all sorted now, thanks again for your help.
No worries.
Friends and forumies,
being sick in bed under fever unavailable to do much, thought to take the best from it and to upgrade my HD2 in Android!
I choosed a ROM, it was the HUPER-DROID, by Pongster and his team, along with a great process description both written and in video.
Installation of HSPL 2.08 was successful.
Installation of MAGDLR was successful
...but then...
the phone started the process to reboot but it DIDN'T. It freeze in the white screen writting "HTC" {in the tutorial video 7:22} and it doesn't proceed in bootloader...
Through the 3color screen I get connected through USB and re-run the MAGLDR 1.13, nothing changed.
I went on trying the MAGLDR v1.11 and v1.10 (desperate indeed), nothing changed.
Of course hard reset does't work.
Let's see the bright side, Virgin UK windows6.5 ROM was a problem which I got rid of(!), but now I stuck with practical new phone which is dead.
I really like my HD2 and I wouldn't like to leave it by so easy.
Any help is welcome.
Thanks in advance,
NickolasV
p.s. Before I make the post I have been searching and searching..! I didn't found anyone with the same problem. And because I don't have the minumim post I can't post in the original thread of pongster.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026
I won't start spaming the forum to achieve this, if anyone want to fell free to contact the developers team on my half.
Thanks

Just a thought dude, have you tried simply flashing Stock ROM and trying again?
Magldr wont appear unless radio is 2.15.50 AND spl is 2.08.hspl
enter bootloader, flash radio, adjust spl if necessary, magldr will work.
If the winmo rom you just removed was 3.14 the radio will be fine, any other version it will need changing.
I'm totally a newbie.
I get up to that point by following step by step instructions.
Tigermoto this is my intent to do (if possibly) and to reverse the proccess. I'll start looking for it in HD2-windows6.5 section, I believe I'll find something there.
Samsamuel I have HSPL 2.08 install, as the proccess said. There is nothing about radio. I came acrooss this term by reading in the forum. How I can check it?
Men you are FAST!!!

So I was trying to flash a custom ROM today, my first step was to update the SPL. I followed the HSPL tutorial on the dummies guide and got an error. I read the troubleshooting and used the provided program to fix it. My phone flashed it and then rebooted. Now, the colors are all inverted and trippy looking. I have already tried a hard reset with no luck Any ideas?
hard reset does not affect the rom partitions of the phone, it does not change the rom, radio rom or spl in any way.
apprarently, when you flash hspl, you have to check your current spl first. if you have the oldest stock spl and flash the newest hspl, you get these screwed up colors. flash back your stock spl, then follow the instructions in the hspl thread to get the right spl on your phone to get your colours back.
sorry, this was not very precise, but i don't have a blackstone anymore, and can't recall the steps precisely.
