How to fix RANDOM REBOOTS / BOOTLOOPS - XPERIA X8 General

**UPDATED**
If you experience RANDOM reboots across different ROMS, and KERNELs, you've come to the right place!! You can solve this issue using the steps described below.
Apparently this is caused by some misconfiguration. Something went terribly wrong and is owning your phone randomdly... So we have to go back to stock and run the phone once to solve any issues.
(I spend a lot of time trollin' devs and other users to give me further info about it, but it ended out being a problem of my phone.) :S
So, to solve this, you'll need to flash 2 things using flashtool:
1- stock 2.1.1.A.0.6 ROM,
2- baseband: 2.1.1.A.0.6 BASEBAND 15 (IMPORTANT: choose the correct one (e15i or e15a) depending on your hardware!!!, check the label below your battery or you'll get F!-up)
download here (thanks lucastan96 for this link)
Note: The following procedure will not RE-LOCK the loader, so relax!
8 steps to glory: follow the order or you'll get served.
1. turn off the phone and format your SD card elsewhere
2. flash stock ROM
3. flash the baseband
4. turn on the phone and go through the setup once
5. turn off the phone and format the SD card elsewhere
6. copy the ROM you wish to install in your SD card
7. flash a CWM kernel and install the ROM (.zip) (make a factory reset before installing!!)
7.1. (optional) if you choose a stock rom kernel, turn off the phone and flash THE BASEBAND
8. turn on the phone and enjoy.
regards

You didn't understand, seems to me.
You have to do all this steps in order to make your phone alright and after that you can flash any ROM you wish and your random reboot problem should be solved.

Facepalm* You didn't read the instructions correctly.
First you flash everything stock; hopefully fixing the random reboots and then:
"7. copy the ROM you wish to install in your SD card"
in your case; MiniCM 3.0.0

Top Tip:
*Next time, try not to be so rash and avoid embarrassment.

Mhhh ... I did everything! But it did not work

I also have problem with random reboots on minicm7 (purple LED and then reset).
Anyone can confirm if it works?

@slake84: Almost 100% sure that's a Custom Kernel BUG.
This thread is for those having RANDOM REBOOTS/crashes using different ROMS AND KERNELS.

Thanks mate, it works :good:

Its a no wipe rom
So for example you can
wipe
instal rom
use
or
wipe
instal rom
wipe
instal custom kernel
use
and can not
wipe
instal rom

Im having the same problem as you! I'll keep you posted

Let me know when you have some news I fix up my phone with Odin, flashing a stock rom and original .pit file but, as you can read, i lost ICS. I think i will waiting for a Stable release
This is a good site for troubles
ics.samsung-updates.com/trouble
see:
Phone is in boot loop
can't get to Recovery (I9000)
Put phone in Download mode and use FixRecovery.tar.md5 in Odin as PDA, uncheck auto-reboot option.
After flash reboot to recovery with 3-button-combo and CWM flash proper ICS kernel and reboot
For trouble after follow instructions from HOW TO FLASH section proper for Your device

ICS ROMs for the Fascinate

Hey guys,
I recently tried flashing the Team Hacksung ICS port, Gummy Fascinate, and AOSPK and they all have the same issues for me. I understand that these are in an alpha state but none of the "Not Working" sections include the problems I am having. First, I cannot receive text messages but I can send them. Second, when exiting an app or the settings menu, the home screen takes five seconds to reset (all of the icons/dock are gone, only the wallpaper shows at first). Third, the launcher becomes incredibly slow after only a few minutes. I close out of all of the apps that are running using the new multitasking feature (holding the home button) but the phone remains sluggish until I reboot it. Then, it is lightning fast until I open any app. Fourth, scanning of my SD card seems to stop after a few seconds after booting. I have about 14 GB of music on my SD card and it only loads the first few artists. It does this every time I boot up so I can never see the entire library. Fifth, sometimes the app I am using will close and I am forced to wait for the home screen to reset, as I mentioned before. No error messages for force closing appears. Sixth (this is only a minor inconvenience but I want to understand why it happens), when I use SMS Backup + to restore my texts, the minute I leave the app or let the screen turn off, it returns to "Idle mode and I have to restart the entire process over again.
TL;DR I have a bunch of issues that other users don't seem to be having and they are not listed on the "Not Working" sections of the ROMs.
I would appreciate if anyone could help me come up with a solution to any one of these problems. I am looking forward to using ICS!
What method are you using to install ics based roms?
I flash back to stock EH03 and then follow these directions to the letter: http://exzacklyright.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-flash-ics-on-verizon-samsung.html
Those instructions are pretty good aside from the part in step 8 that suggests flashing the radio. It's already included in the EH03 package so it's just redundant, but those instructions are essentially the same as my procedure and I'm on build 6 without the issues you're experiencing (as are other people).
I'm curious if you have the same problems on other roms or is it just ICS? Have you ever messed around with overclocking and maybe got a bit aggressive? I know that if you're not careful and know what you're doing with the new overclocking and voltage control that are a part of glitch v14 you could certainly damage your phone. If it's just ICS roms and you've never messed with OC, I'm not really sure why you'd be running into those issues.

have you tried a different sd card?
I only have these problems on ICS. I don't flash EH03 everytime like it suggests in the instructions. My last SD card was fried by CM7 so this SD card is brand new and I'm pretty sure it's a class 10, so speed shouldn't be an issue. Could it really be the SD card that's causing these problems?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Also, I have messed around with glitch v14 and overclocking to attempt to alleviate the sluggishness and I used to use v12 and v13 with CM7 before with no issues. V14 did not help at all so I'm on the stock CM9 kernel and I have erased the voltage settings.

I didnt say it was the sd card, just simply asked if you have tried another...relax grasshoppa. If you dont follow instructions expect stuff not to work right.
Not sure if it will make a difference, but I ODIN and repartitioned to stock verizon DL09.. then CWM, wipe, build two, wipe, gummyfassy...
I have run into some strange issues when I reverted to another stock verizon package other than DL09 before flashing custom roms.. so out of superstitions sake, I always default to DL09.

I use to have to do the same thing when I was on the stock sd card. Pretty sure the op did not odin back to stock anything going by his last post. I agree tho it wouldnt hurt to try stock ed05 or dl09, but dl09 should no longer be necessary.
I wasn't angry or anything, I was just wondering if the SD could be a problem. I always flash back to the stock EH03 ROM before flashing ICS or CM7 but do you think I should go all the way back to DL09?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I don't think it would harm anything to go to a more previous version. Make sure you repartition using the .pit file when flashing in ODIN if coming from MTD rom
Every time i tried all the ICSs I odined to EH03 as my starting point, then odined CWM4 fixed for CM7, then I flashed ICS Hacksung 3 first......Reboot...Reboot into recovery, Flash ICS 6 [or what ever new flavor you would like] then flash Gapps 7.1....Reboot.... Enjoy
Start from scratch and you will be good to go.
Droidstyles is the man when it comes to guides!
Ok, so at what point do you personally wipe data/cache/dalvik? I flash to stock, flash CWM fixed, wipe all three, install THS build 2, reboot, wipe all three, flash ICS rom of choice, flash all three, install gapps 7.1, and reboot.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
usually before you flash a full rom:
Odin EH03
LET THE PHONE BOOT
pop battery
Odin CWM4 for CM7
[three finger salute]
Wipe the three
Flash THS 3
Let Phone boot, then reboot to recovery using the power button [DO NOT 3 finger!!!!]
Wipe the three
Flash THS 6 [or any of the others, you dont need to flash all three just which ever your end game is, i recommend THS 6 not 6.1 for starters]
*No need to wipe or reboot in between these two*
Flash Gapps 7.1
Then reboot and enjoy
Ok I'll give that sequence a shot. Thanks for your help everyone!
Well I don't know what it was but my phone is working flawlessly now. Thanks again everyone!
There is a thanks button for this...

Pretty sure your issue came from wiping the 3 after you flashed ics.
Should go like this
after flashing build 2
Wipe the 3
Flash your choice ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot

Flashing Back To Stock Tutorial

Hey, this is a tutorial to flash back to stock I hadnt seen a proper one up so I thought id stick this together. So if you could head over to this Thread which was created by philos64 (Big thanks for the list!)
And download the correct stock image for your tablet.
1.extract it
2.copy extracted .zip to your tablet (I always find it best to create a folder called roms to make it easier)
3. Reboot into CWM
4. Factory wipe/reset (do this 3 times)
5. wipe cache
6. wipe dalvik
7. click install from zip
8. navigate to where you have the .zip file stored
9. click the file then navigate down to yes.
10. let the file install
11. wipe cache again
12. wipe dalvik again
13. it will take a few minutes to boot so dont freak out (I did wasnt fun trust me)
14. TADA your now back on stock
now comes the but.....
Because you have just flashed back to stock you will lose the custom recovery but that will only take a couple of minutes to get back and root your tablet again. to that you just have to head over to this Thread started by XpLoDWilD this will give you a nice step by step as to how to do it!
Usual disclaimer :
Not responsible if anything goes wrong (but I did this a few times today and it was fine)
If it helped dont forget to say thanks, and if not let me know in the comments below and I can try and help out
Maybe you should also mention which version of the stock firmware you should download depending on where you got your tablet from (EX. I got mine from the UK, but I live in the US)

How long did the first boot take you guys? I've let it sit for over half an hour without any progress. I'm about to try flashing CWM and re-imaging, but it'd help to have some idea how long the first boot should take.

2nd time's a charm. Only took ~5 minute to boot up on the second go around.
One last noob question, is it the kernel or firmware one I use?
Thanks.

1 i accidentally flashed ww firmware on my US pad.. Not one problem..
I actually only realized bc when you first enter recovery it tells you and it def was ww.30
2. Now i.let it reboot after.firmware install .. (I put my stock rom on my sd card before installing obviously)
And after the blue line.goes away and the pad reboots.. I immediately go to fastboot (no need to wait till it boots )and install recovery..
Then flash my stock prerooted Rom
As there is no kernel in it atm
So its.safe for all
I did this.bc
my tools won't unpack
A blob so i can't get to the kernel just yet..
I Need to load up my ubuntu rig
Also recoveries aren't flashing kernels by backing up with recovery and simply changing the path in install script..
Meaning recovering a backed up.image Isnt restoring the kernel

1. The reason I wipe 3 times is because its what one of the rom devs said to do, I think its because it completely clears everything and you start with a blank slate,
2. If your area is US, TW or CN then its WW.
3. My first boot took between 10-15 minutes

No dice, I tried it 3 times. One time I let it sit rebooting for 45 mins and nothing happeded. I went back to SKANG and flashed that all that was done with in 10 mins..
Any help would be greatly appreciated
After returning to SKANG, I decided to return to CWM and once I did that I was able to follow your steps and all was well. I am in the process of backing up .30 after reflashing CWM. I am not sure about using TWRP, but I had no luck.
Hope my trial and errors help...
PEACE....
So can you not flash your own stock nandroid backup from twrp/ cwm? I had to yesturday. but it wouldnt let me flash any of my nandroid backups i made, full backup too. any ideas why. i did everything as usual.
wipe system/ data/ cache/ dalvik
the restore only took like 1 sec litteraly, that didnt seem right at all
I followed op's instructions to return to stock from skank, I flashed back to us .30. Now none of my windows machines will recognize the tablet as a usb device. when I boot into the fastboot mode, adb will not connect to the device and when I try to install the drivers that are posted around the forum I get an error from windows saying that I have to use the 64 bit versions. Not sure what I broke, any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks, this worked perfect for me. Re-installed CWM and the continued on with the ROM I am building.

Jelly Bean

hi all, just this minute decided i want to try put Jelly Bean on my X8.
at the moment i have the stock android 2.1 that came with the phone. its rooted so i could use a custom launcher.
now firstly. if all failed or i wanted to restore the phone back to its original android 2.1, how would i do that? do i need to do a back up of the phone?
if so, how do i do this and what with.
now for the Jelly Bean rom. i want the best and most stable jelly bean rom that will not play up and work 100% including the camera.
which is the best jelly bean rom for my x8?
and how do i get the custom jelly bean rom on my x8.
bear in mind i have never done anything like this to my x8 before i could brick it as i dont have a clue what to do. so can someone give me the best noob guide or video that would be easy for a idiot to understand.
thank you to anyone who will help me
Dan.
Hey there. So now your phone is running rooted Android 2.1. First can you check the sticker behind you phone?(Turn off your phone and pull out the battery). Make sure the manufacturing date is below than 11W29. If it's above 11W29 you can't unlock your phone's bootloader and you can't install any JellyBean ROM. If it's below than 11W29 you can unlock your phone's bootloader using guides in this forum(Search unlock bootloader x8). After you have done unlocking the bootloader you now can proceed to installing custom kernel which is Oxydo-JB kernel or nAa-JB kernel using FlashTool. Then, you can flash MiniCM10 4.0.2 which is JellyBean ROM onto your device.
If you make any mistake during unlocking bootloader process it will result in hard brick. Make sure you follow the steps carefully. If you done everything correctly you can enjoy JellyBean on your phone. If you somehow managed to softbrick your device you can revived it using PC Companion or Flashtool. But it is better to make a backup in case something goes wrong.
Hope I helped you.

Here's the link to the stock 2.1 firmware. You have to flash this using FlashTool.
If you want to backup your stock ROM you have to install a recovery into your device. You can do this using x8toolbox. And after that, you can backup the stock ROM using the recovery.

surely all 5 or 6 of them roms shunt have corrupt. plus I had downloaded one of them 3x and was still same.

If you get Status 7, do this:
1. Open up the ROM.zip file.
2. Open up updater-script from META-INF>com>google>android.
3. Remove the first few getprop lines.
4. Save it and try flashing now.

[Q] phone does not turn on. it goes directly to cwm recovery mode

Good day,
I am having problem with my lg optimus l3 e400. I just rooted it the other day to solve the memory problems of the phone. It has been working fine until today. What happened was, it just turned off and whenever i turn it on, it goes directly to cwm recovery, which has been installed during the root process thru ROM manager app. I also found out that the SD card is corrupted. I had to format the SD card and tried pasting stock ROM's but it still doesn't boot and still goes to recoovery everytime I turn it on. I tried to format the device, the cache, and the other format options in recovery mode but the issue is still not solved. Can anyone please help? And if possible, give me a step by step guide because I'm kinda new at this. Thanks.

Good day,

If you highlight the reboot option and then press the power key what happens?Does the phone reboot? If not somethings gone wrong...Anyway try flashing another custom ROM(cyanoid, for example @linuxxx)Does CWM recovery mount the SD card?Did you flash SD merge and you aren't using a SD merge compatible kernel?Anyway you can't flash stock roms from the phone. You must use the good old KDZ(How many times did he save me....)

Can you guys give me a link? i'm having a hard time looking for stock roms and i don't even know how to distinguish stock rom and custom rom. the sd card that was working before the happened got corrupted but after inserting it to another phone and formatting the sd card, it seems to be working and the sd card can be mounted. i'm not sure with the sd merge compatiility with the kernel but it worked for a few days so i think it is compatible. the phone does not reboot. whenever i reboot it or turn it on, it just goes to recovery mode. thanks.

http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=11 this link is for the stock roms.Just download one of them(the best one is v10m)And then flash it thru kdz.I prefer it cause it's more UNOFFICIAL.This is the guide for using KDZ: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582881 Have a nice day!
P.S. You can ignore step 4 since the link i gave you is better
