Please share what is preventing you from using ICS roms. The Cyanogenmod developers for the Epic do not know what to fix unless you tell them. Currently I feel that CM9 is fully working for the Epic and have not run into a bug. It feels more stable than a stock ROM to me.
Please try to reproduce the issue on a clean CM9 (latest version) without a custom kernel and after wiping data before posting.
I wont use the ICS roms like AOKP or CM because there always seems to be something that doesn't work that I consider important to my personal daily use. I find it quite impressive that the roms have more customization that anyone could possibly use, but something that I need every day like VM or video recording wont work properly. And then there are the little things like volume and light levels or audio routing. I mean, there always seems to be something wrong with them, something that affects my normal minute by minute use of the phone.
further, I don't understand why the google apps aren't built-in. No, it's not that hard to download and flash the gapps, but at the moment I'm trying to do just that and the link isn't working- so no gapps for me, so no AOKP for me either. (yeah, I was going to give it a try).
lastly, white for the calendar background is about as enjoyable to look at as much as burlap makes for a choice undergarment material.
I like stock CM 9 beta 3, but I keep going back to the Nyan kernel for the voodoo color. Anyone else?
am I the only one that wants to see voodoo on Cm 9

Not me. I would much prefer a kernel as awesome as Nyan without Voodoo Color. Sure, while it does make the colors juicier and the backgrounds smoother, it's not as natural to me. The screen is much darker and if you try to brighten it, it seems almost washed out. I've tried it and have tried many different settings a bunch of people recommend, and maybe it's just me but I really hope they don't include it in any ROM. Considering that CM9 is meant to be an improved "stock" experience for all, the idea of changing the color contrast is too controversial. Many will like it, many will hate it. But for now, they should just keep what they have as most people don't seem all that upset about it. If you are, than just flash Nyan Kernel.

All other things I understand fully, so I can't sway your opinion(not that I would try) but 4G in CM9? When I last checked it's working. Do you not have it in your area?
I used CM9 about a week on my SGS. I had some minor problems, but the worst think was, that my battery drains like hell. About 14h of normal ussage and that think was dry like a stone!
Now I'm back on MIUI Mintberry, I miss some ICS features but that Rom is stable as hell!
I go back and fourth with cm7 and cm9. i was on 9 for the longest but went back to 7 due to battery life.

I wish some one would figure out how to get the touchwiz camera working on ASOP ROMs. There's a Sony camera that works on our phones & a few HTCs that I have tryed it out on. IMHO samsungs camera & the left right swiping are the best parts of touchwiz & the left right should be added to ASOP by now, NOT saying the Epic dev teams have to, its just suprizing to me that NO one has done that.

JT has a really nice version of ICS. Right now it's my daily driver.
~This is going to take crackerjack timing, Wang.~
I finally flashed his 4th build although I had been planning to wait until it was sbrissenized (meaning ICS with TSM Parts for anyone who doesn't already know what I mean by "sbrissenized"). So far I'm liking it... It'll be even better with a couple of Maraschino cherries
Has anyone seen John Connor?
JT's ics is pretty sweet. It's my daily driver. Battery life is by far the best I've seen, period. It has it's quirks, but nothing unmanageable.

battery isn't that great, but it did run Pandora for my work place for 5 hours yesterday (screen off of course) and that only took a 20% hit. Not near as bad as I expected. My Gmail keeps stopping though and I kinda need that. That's literally the only problem I've had. And randomly during a call my screen won't come back on till reboot, but might be my undervolting. I'm gonna reflash and see if that works before I go try that new CM7 KANG build. Hope this thread stays decent...

Sorry it took me a while to notice the pun thar But, yes, ICS (and ice cream in general) is pretty sweet
Only problem is my phone is getting some lag with the latest build... Perhaps because ICS was designed for newer hardware than what the Fascinate has (especially in terms of RAM)...
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Where is the new build.

Well...the launcher is SLOW. Once I replaced it with ADW and a qtpie ICS theme it's much, much better. One trick I've found is enabling 2d hardware acceleration, and then downloading spare parts and disabling compatibility mode so apps don't get all screwed up.
This smooths things up quite a bit, along with a slight overclock. Everything is smooth as butter, and I'm not exaggerating here! I do however suffer from random reboots, this could be caused by my overclock though. I also limited background processes to 4 to see if that would help anything, I'm still testing it.
As for the extremely loud in call volume, Chopper's tasker setup is working perfectly so that's not an issue. And then no voice recognition software or tethering works, no tethering actually sucks because I own a WiFi only tablet.
Also I've noticed when I receive a call, the person on the other end hears static if my screen is on. And for some final touches I bulletproofed my launcher with a part of the supercharger script.
No MMS...could care less about that.
Battery life is mediocre, I'm still calibrating it though.
Sorry I kinda jumped all over the place.
Those are my thoughts on Ice Cream Sammiches.
Hello, I just have a suggestion for any of the phenomenal developers we have for the Epic 4g. I currently just flashed CM7 (stock>SRF>ACS ICS>CM7) and am definitely liking it A LOT lol! (now on nightly 11 to be precise). My sincere apologies if this has already been suggested, I hadn't seen this one yet and I do read the forums a lot. (Long time reader, first time poster!!)
So.... I know there is a lot of comments on the funky purple 90% battery charging notification light. Here's my two cents:
If the light is blue when it's fully charged (like on stock) and red when charging (also stock)... how perfect would it be to have the red charging notification light on CM7, then transition to purple at 90% charged, and then to blue at fully charged???
What do you guys think??!!?!
[EDIT] Wow I sound like a dork haha. "first time poster!!!" FTW haha!
I like that suggestion. But I don't have any issues with the charging light as-is, either. I'm gonna take a SWAG * and say that I doubt the devs will implement this, and I really doubt that one of 'em will jump in here and say "Golly, this sounds like a swell idea, jones75534! Consider it done!" But if I'm wrong (on either count, or even close), I think it'd be a neat little feature. I'll cross my fingers for ya!
* Sniper-talk for "Scientific Wild-Ass Guess." I was watching the History Channel earlier.
I guess a purple light every morning doesn't bother me, and why should it? Who gives a rats arse. How about the choppy video recording and uber slow web browsing? Those are bigger things for our sweet devs to tackle.

Completely agree (except get rid of the pink all together. Looks like a bug and unprofessional). I am aware, though, that cm7 works different when it comes to when the LED lights up, and what you and I want is more of want Samsung does on TouchWiz. And to be honest, I think that's better. It charges when red, full when blue. Simple.

My post was just an aesethetic suggestion on a ROM that is near flawless.

I like these ideas. I say someone dev some mods for CM7. Not everybody likes CM7's defaults just like not everyone likes Samsung's defaults. I'm not saying push this into the CM7 tree but instead release some mods that are 3rd party unsupported. How about haptic feedback on our menu, home, back and search keys?

No i just posted here, but i just wanted to get some opinions on it but most likely the roms over there make the phone run faster and maybe some ROMS faster or equal to the speed of this..
I meant evo shift not **** ahah. typo.
My wife has an OG EVO 4G, I have the Shift. Both rooted, running Mik Roms on both. Other than the Front Facing Camera, and the bigger screen. That's it. I like my Shift better in everyway. Can OC way higher, just as versatile as the OG EVO. IMO stick with the Shift.
the OG EVO is nice for the front cam and bigger screen but myself i prefer having a physical keyboard on the shift instead of wasting screen space typing on the screen.
i just think the shift is a good solid phone and mine has taken many beatings and met many walls and still runs like a german tank fueled on meth

Nothing, except the hardware keyboard (which I don't use anywhere near as much as I'd thought). I only have a Shift because the USB port on my EVO stopped working, and I'm glad I carry a tablet as I tend to really hate this phone- if it weren't for Go Launcher Ex (the original Sense Launcher would redraw everything nearly every time, making it really slow) I'd've chucked it out a LONG time ago.
I really should just root it and put AOSP on it, but as it's really just a phone now, haven't gotten around to it.

The shift dominates the evo... My wife has an evo (rooted of course) that I maintain, it won't overclock over 1.2GHZ, it is much slower than the shift at any task, and is a big clunky phone if you put the otterbox defender on it, which she has because we have 2 kids. The evo is a nice device with a ton of development... if you like 10 of the same roms with different themes added... Also this has to be stated: The evo is old technology, the evo shift was the first of the newer emmc partitioned devices and although it only has an 800mhz processor, it kicks the evo's ass in all areas of performance. Not to mention the much more powerful adreno 205 gpu that comes in the shift. The keyboard is just an added bonus... Oh, we also dont have the dreaded busted charging port that the evo has... Shift all the way for me!

Hrmph. My (stock 2.3.4) Shift compared to my EVO (which I still use a mini-tablet, I just swap batteries every couple of days and don't use it as a phone):
- is slow as hell for EVERYTHING
- will reload the Sense Launcher every time you go back to it (I had to switch Launchers)
- wlll lag for sometimes up to 30 seconds while using some apps (like Google Maps as one)
- I've stopped loading apps on it, 'cause I'm always getting the dreaded "Low on Space" notification at < 50MB left (and when it does, it stops synching).
I got it 'cause I like hardware keyboards, but the layout is so odd I'm a worse typist than if I use the on-screen keyboard.
It's just slow and laggy- and frankly I'm surprised to hear that people actually like it. Perhaps there's some variation in the hardware, but I only bought this thing in July so how back could it be?

You gotta root it. Then you unleash the power man
All aboard the Speedy Express
You gotta root it... Sense 2.1 is a beast for this little phone and htc/sprint did us no favors with the amount of bull**** bloat they put on the phones. Im running a stock sense 2.1 2.3.4 rooted rom based off the ruu, fully loaded with bloat and get 1 - 2 sense re-loads a week. Once I strip the bloat and odex it, it will decrease to 1 - 2 sense re-loads a month. Although I'm not currently using it, V6 supercharger is also great for memory management... But the first step is downgrading hboot and rooting that *****... You wont regret it, and aosp on the shift is smooth as a baby's ass...

Who cares about extra development. For every 1 rom we have here they gave two roms that are exactly the same with a different theme.
I will say i love the big screen and kickstand , but if i had to choose between one...definitely the shift. Plus this community has less pricks too.

So guys I was asking myself "is it worth flashing?". Why you ask? Well because if I took a look in the development section and it doesn't look like any of the current roms out are stable and they all seem to have many know issues. So I would like to know what you have flashed and how you like the experience compares to stock rom?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have flashed a bunch of roms on this tab. Most of them are stable now. ALL of them running ics are better than the honeycomb touchwiz that comes pre installed. The only caveat I say to you, is that the camera still isn't working on the roms I've been using as my dailies. (Aokp and Nightlies) If that's a deal killer for you, then stay away from the ics builds for now. But I can tell you as someone who has a 2 year + old Droid Incredible running ics AND this tab running ics, I can never go back. Its just THAT good. Especially on this tab where it Truly shows off the big improvements on the OS.

I'm running a stock mod but the difference is pretty huge. No more constant reboots or hangs. Much faster too. Not using any special kernels either. The ROM I'm using has working GPS and camera. Haven't touched any roms with broken cam/GPS.

Can I ask which ROM you're using? (I thought there wasn't an ICS ROM with working camera...?)
He never said nor implied that he was using an ICS rom...
Ah OK. (Just realised you're right)
I'm using overcome 2.3.1. It's not ics. It's pretty nice. Went from multiple daily reboots to 3 or 4days of uptime. I use it a lot for reading, browsing, netflix, remote mgmt of servers and it holds up well. I bought 3 Samsung docks and have it hooked up to my home theater for music via hdmi, on my nightstand (ditched the tv in the bedroom) and another in my office. I wouldn't have been able to keep it without a rom. Give it a shot. Take your time and read up, it's pretty simple. I'm kinda pissed they made such a great tablet and put such a horrible buggy os on it.
I saw all the comments here suggesting to throw a rom on it to improve performance but I didn't put much stock in it. It's not an exaggeration. You have to ditch the tw launcher too. I'm using Go's tablet edition. I guarantee you will not go back to stock. I chose overcome because it's really stable. No point trying to escape bugs and using a buggy rom.
Getting off my soapbox now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes that was one of my major concerns of ics. I'm running dark sides evolution 2 beta 3 on my sgs2. But when I came here to read about the 10.1 ics versions I was kind of sad. Because like it was said the 10.1 is awesome but cannot be used on stock w/o mods. I really just want to get on a stable release that doesn't have this issue where you could only charge your tab with the wall charger. I need a different kernal.

It's use go launcher too, but what I'm curious about is what you're using for server management? And app or just the browser? I have both cpanel and directadmin panels on my servers and just been using the browsers.

With Task v14, I feel that the Galaxy tab is vastly improved from the stock bloatware.
I don't really care about ICS on the Galaxy. Task 14 is so good, I don't see ICS as improving much. I have ICS running on HP Touchpad and Kindle Fire, right now.
it's nice, but IMHO not really worth all of the hype over an optimized GB ROM. YMMV.
Task v 14 is really great, highly recommend it over any ics roms.

Yeah I'm not even using any special kernel and have no probs charging.
I'm actually happy with my stock rooted GS2. The only problems I've had are few and far between and solved with a reboot.
I looked at all the major roms on the dev page and Overcome seemed to be the safest stable rom.

I use pocketcloud and terminal apps to access vnc, rdc and ssh sessions. I'm not using browsers at all except for some app/service config panels that require it and even those I mainly use remotely via vlc or rdc.

I think your info may be outdated there are a few very and very fast roms out there. I use galaxy task rom and it is very smooth really like night and day over stock.
Perhaps what might come off as unstable are the continuing work by the devs to keep improving the rom

my $.02: My use-case for my tablet is almost entirely at home. I have the Wi-Fi only model, so I don't do a lot of "mobile" stuff with it. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone which I generally carry everywhere.
What I thought: As a techie, I want everything to be fully working just because, and as a result I cannot accept a tablet without a working camera!
Real Life: I use my tablet for IM, web browsing, reading comics, and playing games, generally around the house or while commuting. That's actually it. Number of times I did a video chat on my tablet: 1. Number of times I actually wanted to video chat on my tablet: maybe 2. Because I work with a Galaxy Nexus all the time, having the same OS & ROM on both devices is honestly nicer / easier / more lazy-friendly. Its honestly pretty slick to have Chrome syncing across my computers, my phone, and my tablet.
I recently tried to go back to Honeycomb since I once again thought "gee maybe I should use the camera on my tablet". Honeycomb just feels like ICS with training wheels on it I really don't like it as much. This probably as much a placebo effect as anything. Also, the camera isn't as good as my Galaxy Nexus or my actual camera, and I feel like a douche holding my tablet up to take a picture. Would being able to Skype on my tablet be cool? Yes. Would I use it that often? No.
I'm going back to AOKP damnit. I can deal with a non-working camera for a while.
And GPS??? My device doesn't have mobile data, so it really doesn't matter to me that much, even though I thought it would.
Bottom Line: You can back all your stuff up, and you're not out anything, so why not try it?

i feel exactly the same, i just migrated to AOKP last night, and so far the benefits of it being a lot "zippier" is good. I do a lot of typing and multitasking viewing pdf and docs etc is a better experience on ICS than HC.....
music? camera? i have my handy SGS for that.......

I am really surprised at how amazing jelly bean really is on the s3, with ics it was fast and smooth already but now it blazes.
it is faster and smoother than my iphone 4s on ios6 and my wp7.5 hd7 of old which now belongs to my brothwe. it equals in smoothness that of my iPad 3 and in many ways is faster add depending on the app it generally opens them faster.
it is s real winner. battery life could be better but I'm more than happy at the moment and it was well worth the wait!

The official version is indeed better than the leaks we got earlier, and gives me hope that the later versions are going to be even better, not to mention 4.1.2 and 4.2.

I have both. I think that the SGS3 was already faster on ICS than the gnexus on JB. The gnexus is slower to load apps and lag a lot on places like the widgets menu.
I can only recommend Paranoid Android on the S3, I'm simply amazed by this ROM...

That's your opinion. I've tried both, and the S3 is faster, and better imo.
Certainly on AOSP it is without a doubt, ill always choose AOSP first and foremost now there can be no going back to Sammy ROM's only as a secondary ROM, i can live without FM Radio (i always use Tune in Radio PRO anyway much better highly recommended app) and other small things you don't get IN AOSP the good far outweighs the bad.
I have to agree Project Butter is a lot better than in the leaks, but there is optimization to do, like the widgets draw, which still lags until it is fully pulled into memory.
I can't wait to see what the updates have to offer.
And would u mind telling us how u managed with the freaky lag we get when we try to open phone dialer after it being closed 4 a while? Why do they call it a phone when the thng it does the worst is opening the phone app!
Just be thankful you don't have the WiFi issue that it gave me.
Beforehand, no problem connecting to the WiFi.
Now, I have had to disabled "power saving mode" in the menu *#0011#, because whereas previously on ICS, it would connect if the WiFi got dropped (say, it went to sleep, or I disabled it), unless I do this, if it gets dropped, it would not reconnect until I reset the phone.
Very, very annoying.
I've raised the Issue with Samsung.
And it's not just me with the issue.
supernexus build 5 is a winner

while on ics i used ex dialer, on JB it still loads slowish but it takes 1 sec rather than 4 for me and im fine with that so i stopped using ex dialer for now.
I prefer AOSP rom too but you will miss a lot of s3 features. That's the reason I stick to stock.

I completely agree i owned various devices and always used Asop or akop. But on this phone, if you use asop or akop you miss the features on the phone. So i tend to stick to stock all the time simply because i need most of the features.

Wow! Google should have never brought project butter up in the first place. Now we have some weirdos having a weird placebo effect thinking that the GS3 firmware does not incorporate PB when it would be absolutely retarded and more difficult for Samsung to take it out of the source code and add in half butter. That is like the most hilarious thing I have ever heard. No developer would rewrite PB to operate at half.
There is a possibility that touchwiz animations do not look as smooth as AOSP animations to some eyes but I highly HIGHLY doubt it that they would change the genetic code. lol
People need to stop tripping or otherwise Google is not going to even bring up any transition improvements to prevent this crap from happening to their OEMs that use Android skins.
