[Q] Desperate for help! - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Bought a 16 GB Wifi Samsyng Galaxy 10.1 Tablet from a friend. Not rooted. Was working fine until I upgraded to the stock 3.2 from Samsung. Now, it won't boot unless it's pugged into the wall charger. The battery says its at 100%, but it goes immediately off when I unplug it. It won't boot at all....not even into recovery unless it's plugged in. The computer wont recognize it when using the USB cord and it won't do anything.
Can the software do weird things to the battery? What do I do? I can use the wall charger, boot into recovery, wipe data and factory reset....then setup my google account and it works fine....until I unplug it. Then it goes black immediately.
I'm not a noob, (several Android phones, all rooted and custom Roms flashed...thx XDA).......but I'm stumped on this one.
Pease help.

Try going back to 3.1 and see if it goes away, or try a Custom Rom. Task14 is very stable and reliable to test with

as long as you can turn it on, you are safe. Like above said, install Task14 rom!!

Thanks for the suggestions....but since I can't get the tablet to do anything while it's connected to the computer, how do I get the tablet rooted or even get the 3.1 or a custom Rom onto the tablet?
I plugged it in again last night (with wall charger)....it showed the battery as 100%....then it vibrated and the screen faded (as it's supposed to do). It won't turn on when you press the power button only.....not even if I hold it down to force a reboot. So I have to boot it up by using the power button and the down volume key combo. From there, I wiped the cache, and did a factory reset. (all this time it's plugged into the wall charger) Then when it rebooted and I was able to set it up with the Wifi, Google account, market access, etc. I even played a game and went to You Tube and watched a couple videos just to make sure it was working. Everything was working perfect (as long as it's plugged in to the wall charger). I left it alone for several hours to see if the battery was just reporting 100% but in fact was NOT at 100%. The screen went black, but would come back on when pushing the power button quickly (as it's supposed to do) So I left it like that overnight. This entire time the battery was reporting 100%.
This morning, I quickly tapped the power button and it came back up (still plugged in). Working great. As soon as I unplug it from the wall, it went black and now it won't do anything.
It won't boot or do anything using the USB cord and the computer. How do I get the new ROM or old stock 3.1 onto the dang thing if I can't get it connected?
This thing is frustrating me.

ok so my phone hates me

Had Build 5 of the team hacksung ICS. i went to turn my screen on and nothing, I figure ok, pulll the battery, it will be fine. NOT. I pulled the battery, put it back in, tried to turn the phone on and all I got was the battery charging screen (with a grey battery with the loading symbol in it) and it kept turning off and coming back on over and over. I threw it on the charger for shi*s and giggles and it booted into recovery, nothing I tried made it boot past recovery (while plugged in) or past the half charging screen (when not plugged in)
I managed to go home and odin back to stock (full DL09 w/ atlas 2.2 pit) but if I turn the damn thing off and then try to start it again, same damn thing! idk what the hell to do or even what happened. no amount of odin is helping.
Anyone have any idea what the heck happened here?

Are your volume buttons stuck?

Nope but I'm thinking I'm going to try some electronics cleaner just in case. My phone is my music when I lift so I change songs often meaning its a distinct possibility that's its gummed up a bit in there lol

I kinda have the same issue. When I have the phone unplugged and off, I cannot turn it on. When I push the power button I get a blank battery charging image. However, when I plug the phone in and wait for the battery charging icon to appear , then push the power button the phone will start. Also, when on and not plugged in, the notification area intermittently presents "USB connected". I have chalked this all up to being an issue with my USB port on the phone being damaged and learned to ignore the notification. I have tried several ROMs and have the same issues across the board (GM and ICS ROMs)

Try a different battery
That was my next step once I get home. Half afraid to turn the dang thing off at risk of having to start over..again

Ok so I finally got around to some testing. If I power off the phone and power it back on its fine, if I reboot, its fine, if I take the battery out (like when I flashed the ec09 radio earlier) then it does the same crap as before. If I plug the charger in and try again its good. I tried my buddys battery and all was well so its my battery.
Hope this helps anyone who runs into this problem!

Ghost power on during re charge

ok, the nook im using has had a tough life, and for 6 months I thought it was completely dead.
Then it came back to life and seemed to be doing well for 3 months then it started going down hill
bottom line issue: The NC seems to be turning itself on during the night while I have it plugged in and charging. Then when I unplug it in the morning its less than 50% charged.
I had cm9ICS on it and other than poor battery life everything seemed ok, someone here suggested I go back to mirage to haelp the battery so I did.
I went all the way to a full format (cache apps, everything) then started building with Mirage, everything seemed to work just fine.
Then when I went to shut down it just reboots.
So I try pressing and holding the power button in all the way, until it completely powers off, and it looks like its ok, but then this morning I got up and went to unplug it, it was already on and the battery was down at the 50% mark
I really like the NC I have 2 others at home, one fr the wife one for the child, plus I have given 3 more as gifts to friends. BUT it just is not looking good here...
any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks
j
Try your wifes power cable and see if it does it too.
thanks,
ive actually tried 3 of them
same thing on all of them.
now I have noticed that it only completely powers down about 1 out of every 4 tries.
If I use the soft power off option (press and hold for 5 then select power off then yes) the other times its just one big reboot
anyone had THAT?
To power off the nook when charging... attach to charger... press power button... select shut down from menu.
If you hold power button in to hard shutdown with it connected to charger... it is going to power cycle.
That is normal... and functions the same way if you put B&N stock rom on it.
dizzy
i didnt know that aboout the hard shut down when plugged in. but once again last night took 6 attempts to get it to go off and STAY off w/ the menu
any ideas?
anyone
bueller?
Are you also using the stock wall adapter? In addition to the cable you need to have sufficient output from the source you are plugging the cable into. Most older usb ports only have 0.5A output and the Nook needs ~2A usb port (usually say iPad compatible).
If the Nook is running on a low charge it will have start up and shut down issues until it is sufficiently charged. It sounds like you may have issues other than that but make sure you are getting a full charge after plugging it in overnight and go from there.
yep, matter of fact just to make sure I have tried swapping between all 3, no difference,
i may end up with a novo aurora if I cant figure this one out

That did it...I usually just thump it on the side and it works...N7 flaw, thanks for your help..
I was reimaging my device from 4.4 back to 4.3 (since Kit Kit broke flash videos). Stupid me, I told it NOT to wipe my user data (even though I backed everything up, including the internal storage device). When it rebooted, the X logo was there, but it never would boot up. I'm assuming because it was because I should have wiped data. Oh, and it was fully charged before I did the reimage to 4.3.
Well, I tried to reboot it (did the reset) to try and get into the bootloader which I did. I wipe the cache only and then rebooted and that was it. Blank screen and nothing else. I can't tell if it's turned on or off. Plugging the charger into the wall outlet doesn't elicit any type of response on the screen. Usually, the screen turns on if it's already on or else, if it's off, you get the battery icon. Neither one happens.
The screen is blank (even when I press and hold power+vol up+vol down. I've hooked it up to the PC to see if I could hear at least the sound when it powers down on the reset and it does indeed do that. Then, it connects and then I get a different sound and the PC says it cannot identify the USB device connected when before all of this happened, it was working just fine (had to since I JUST used the N7 tools to flash back to 4.3).
I've also left it hooked up to the original wall charger for over an hour and nothing. Screen is still blank and never comes on no matter what I do.
I've also opened the back up (hopefully they can't tell if I've done this or not) and unplugged the batter, waited and plugged it back in. Still nothing.
I've uninstalled all the drivers, rebooted and tried it again. After it installed the drivers, still the same issue. It worked for almost a year. Luckily, I purchased the N7 on January of 2013, so I'm still under warranty.
Here's the problem: I unlocked the bootloader. Will this void the warranty? Am I hosed if I try to RMA it? I cannot get connected back to to an fastboot oem lock on it. N7 toolkit is useless (well, NOW it is since I have a non-functioning device), so I cannot do anything there.
I'm just trying to see if there is anything else I can do or is the N7 fubar'd? If so, does this mean they won't be able to keep my data (which is fine by me)? I would hate for them to boot it up and see the unlocked icon on the screen and then come back at me for money.

my device has just quit workin all together

my att g2 4.2 rooted stock rom worked normally last night, this morning I plugged it into the car charger and it displayed it was charging with 2% charge present. I pressed the power button the boot animation began I set it down and when I picked it back up a few minutes later to use it...well nothing...the charging indicator led wasn't lit and when I pressed the power button LG appeared for only a split second then went black. when I plug it in same thing, LG logo for a brief second then disappears. I haven't done anything recently except xposed modules, no flashing of anything. any ideas? thank you guys
It happened to me (on other devices) when I let them discharged too far. Just allow it to charge awhile then try to hold the power button
for 10-20secs ... The NookHD+ were the worst in this situation (it won't charge sometimes, I had to plug/unplug a few times to initiate a charge, I was almost about to RMA one of them).
something else that's odd
when I plugged my device into my laptop the laptop acted like I just plugged in 12 different things that all needed to have their disk formatted. what is going on? wierd

try charging the device in offline mode ( turn it off and let it charrge for a while) and then turn it on . mind wouldnt turn on because of very low charge yesterday. doing this helped
update
I let it charge for several hours, nothing...it appears to be in some kind of boot loop. I can't turn it off all the way, I hold the powwer button for tensec or so and the LG will appear for a second then disapear and then the back light stays on. oh ya, when I plugged it in a few hours ago it wouldn't turn on but the red LED was flashing. I'm not sure how long it stayed on, but it was off when i got back to it several hours later. thank you for your time fellas!
If you can get to recovery at all, leaving it on charge in there. Has saved me in a similar situation.

Could have been the power switch that makes the phone short circuit and goes off anytime.

Thank you sirs, unfortunately still no good
it sounds like you had the same thing as everyone else yesterday that had twrp installed and the carrier automatically updated the system.
I could not get my phone recognized by the laptop and had to use pdanet drivers, which finally worked, but I still had to dig for the device. then had to flash back to stock. There is a pretty good thread on this topic, already. Search for it in the developer section. Do not skip any steps, such as setting the date back to jan2012 and turning off the internet. go slow and methodically, or you will miss a step and get frustrated.

[Q] Bricked?

Hey all.
So I have an s4 that was running safestrap and hyperdrive. It all worked fine and I was having no problems. The phone froze (programs not responding, not a big deal.)
I did a battery pull and then the phone would not turn on again. When I put the battery in, it turns on for about 5 seconds. I managed to get it into recovery and download mode, however it turns off almost as soon as I get there. I checked with a different battery, but nothing.
I would ODIN it and everything would be fine, but it won't stay on long enough for my computer to even recognize it.
Also, I tried leaving the phone on the charger overnight, but it won't charge the battery or show the red LED. I felt for heat to see if it was hot around the usb/charging port but it wasn't.
Any ideas?
I'm sure you tried this, but did you try to use the USB cord to power and not rely on the battery?
