They just announced the Toshiba Excite 7.7 today and will be on sale June 10 with Tegra 3 and 7.7 Super Amoled for $499 for 16gb and $579 for 32gb.
Now the question is the screen the same as galaxy tab 7.7 super amoled plus? If it is then we might have a direct competition to our beloved tab 7.7.
I'm wondering if I should return the tab 7.7 and wait for this excite 7.7 which is little bit cheaper but also comes with tegra 3 quadcore. I would definitely want to see the benchmark of this and also comparisons to tab 7.7.

Yeah, it looks like it could be a 7.7 beater since it's slightly cheaper and has a quad core. Hard to say until it's released and someone can do a comparison test.
Still, it's not like the Galaxy 7.7 will be the hottest thing in small tabs much longer at any rate.
I have this friday to return my gtab 7.7 p6810 I got for about $550. The excite 7.7 also comes with ICS and it's unskinned which is better than the TW crap from Samsung.
Decisions... decisions... I wonder if it will be better than the gtab 7.7. I should have waited!

Well, there will always be something better down the road (if not, then we're probably in trouble and you should be busy stockpiling rations rather than worrying about having the latest silly tablet). But, you'll have to wait at least two more months for the Toshiba anyway. First World Problems and such.
Hmm I saw this earlier today and the fact it has ICS is quite a huge plus and of course tegra 3 but then I am not sure how the battery is long term on the new tegra. But it is much thicker than the 7.7, although more ports it seems, but the bezel is also a bit bigger than the 7.7. And this is where it irks me. The bezel on the 7.7 is smaller than in some laptops and looks amazing.
I am sure the new toshiba will be a nice tablet but it feels a notch down in quality than the 7.7.
So, I just purchased a Galaxy Tab 7.7 from Negri last night...got an email today saying they're out of stock but would be able to fill the order in 3-5 business days. The question is should I just wait out the order? or cancel and wait out for the Excite?
From my understanding, the only major difference here is Tegra 3 vs Exynos and additional ports? The pricing will be pretty much the same for both it looks like.
Anybody else caught in the same position? Any input would be nice, especially from current galaxy 7.7 owners! TIA

Seeing as Negri is already selling the P6810 for under $500, it seems pretty silly to wait for the Excite if you're considering buying now, since you'd just be waiting to pay about the same price for arguably slightly better hardware in (imo) a less attractive package. Only reason to wait I can think of would be if you really think Samsung will never deliver ICS to the 7.7--I'm sympathetic to the skepticism, but I would be pretty surprised if the 7.7 doesn't have some sort of working ICS by the time the Excite is actually available. Of course if you just can't stand Honeycomb to begin with, you shouldn't buy the 7.7, but I'm assuming you're okay with HC since you placed the order in the first place.
FWIW, I'm quite happy with my P6810 even if HC is a miserable failure of an OS. I certainly don't see it being improved by tegra3 and the form factor of the Excite--and I'm 99% sure it'll be the same panels manufactured by Samsung with the same issues.
No hdmi port kills it for me, was looking pretty good other than that
all i can say, latest always better, galaxy tab 7.7 already few months old

Ok my view on the Toshiba Excite -
Super Amoled - Not Super Amoled Plus = Big difference
Tegra 3 - Like Tegra 2 has FLAWS!
Quad core - Doesn't mean better than dual core
Toshiba - Hate Samsung or love them they are far better than Toshiba
Size - Tosh is bigger and bigger ain't better
My 2 cents

actually according to various websites the screen is identical, although the text in the press release is rather vague about the screen, stating just AMOLED, not AMOLED plus.
http://www.engadget.com/page/3/
The 7.7, in particular, sports the same AMOLED display inside the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7,

But if it is not the plus display, then probably pentile and that would suck.
A 7.7" 1280x800 PenTile display would be awful, but I haven't seen any real info one way or the other. In the absence of hard facts, the most obvious answer is that it's the exact same panel Samsung already manufactures for the tab 7.7.
So, I've decided to stick with the 7.7, but as Negri appears to be out of stock for an unknown period of time, do ya'll recommend any other places to get it at a fair price similar to Negri's? Thanks!
It seems to me that Excite 7.7 doesn't provide much by way of competition vs the P6800 honestly; it doesn't double as a phone. As for being a competitor to the P6810, yeah, I suppose I could see that, but again, we won't really know until we can perform a proper head-to-head against both devices.
How do their screen's actually match up against each other?
How will they feel in your hand? (The Excite seem bulkier)
How will their battery performance stack up to each other?
How will their performance overall stack up?
Will the P6810/6800 have ICS by June? How will that change/improve the current experience?
Etc, etc, etc...
I guess, all I'm trying to say is that there are a lot of things to consider before immediately making a knee-jerk reaction.

On the above article engadget clearly states that the tab 7.7 and excite 7.7 both have same screen i.e superamoled plus.
I love every bits of samusung, but i just hate these these kind of things !!
Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 is specifically known for its unique superamoled plus screen ,but look at samsung what a cheap mentality! !They sold their uniqueness to toshiba! !
And for these kind of things my love for samsung converted into hate ! !
I think Jaded hit in on the head.
You would have to compare the Excite to the WiFi ONLY version of the tab 7.7
The Tab 7.7 having radios inside of it is huge, at least for me.
Also the slimness of the 7.7 is a big factor.

I couldn't find any posts that went into detail regarding the differences between the 8.9 and the 10.1.
Am I right in thinking the only difference between the two are the screen size? Obviously, this brings the following implicit differences:
8.9 is lighter
8.9 is smaller (although thickness is the same)
8.9 has a higher pixel density (because screen resolutions are the same).
8.9 being lighter and smaller means it is more portable
8.9 is probably cheaper (this is my guess)
The on-board memory options for both may be different (e.g. the 8.9 may not come in a 64GB option where as the 10.1 may eventually have this option).
Apart from availability of the 10.1 will be sooner than the 8.9, I'm not sure what the benefit is for me to get the 10.1.
I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts?
Size matters (insert joke). Everything else will likely remain the same. get 8.9 if you want something a little more portable, or if you have small hands..
If you want something truly diffrent, wait for the second gen 7" rumored to run Exynos.
You are pretty much correct with all that, but if you are in North America, you're most likely to have 10.1 with Vanilla honeycomb, and also that when 8.9 launches - it will be pre installed with touchWiz, Apparently where I live - both 10.1 and 8.9 will be with touch wiz preinstalled !
$.02: 10.1 vs. 8.9 (vs. 7)

Yes - And owning a 10.1 I have to say, having a "vanilla" OS is the way to go. Very clean and simple. Honestly, I when I first saw the 10.1, I thought it was a little small lol; the idea of (that much) less screen real-estate doesn't seem fathomable =) [the lack of TouchWiz was a big selling point for me]
Unless you can do without the extra screen size, I'd go with a 10.1 -if you really don't care about screen size, follow the other gentleman's advice and with the new 7" when it comes out.
Isn't the 8.9 supposed to come out with a thicker screen that's less bright? That was the rumor a few weeks ago. Apparently the manufacturers are having a hard time with the 8.9 screen size and might have to use a thicker, heavier screen.
It's not clear how Samsung plans on handling this. They are having trouble with the yields for the screens on the 8.9, which would seem to indicate that some tablets will get the same screen as the 10.1 while others will get the thicker, less bright screens. It will probably vary by market.
I decided to get a 10.1 after the issues with the 8.9 screens were reported. I could deal with a thicker tablet - after all, the screens themselves are 40% thicker - but how much of the thickness of the total tablet is the actual screen? I would imagine even with the "lesser" screen the 8.9 would come in at under 10mm easily, so no big deal to me. But the 40% reduction is brightness is a big deal to me. That would take it's impact on the battery life, so thanks but no thanks!
WiFi antennas and heat?
I read some where that the 8.9 has only 1 WiFi antenna vs the 10.1 that supposedly has 2...
Don't if that's true and if we will notice much a difference (I suppose we will).
The other thing that would only be speculation on my part, is that maybe the 8.9 could run a little hotter by having less space to dissipate heat?
Any ideas about this?
I'm happy with my screen size. Neitherone is all that portable to be walking around town on a regular basis.
I'd rather have more screen realestate since I'm mostly using it primarily at home.
7" is the way to go for portability, in my opinion.

I think he has a point. Samsung is taking a long time to get the 8.9 out. I'm sure they're not pleased about this either, however if they take too much longer, then the 8.9 will be competing against the first crop of quad-core Kal-El powered tablets, not to mention the other faster dual core solutions. I don't have any performance issues with the Tegra 2 in my day to day use, but the fact remains that it's not exactly a screamer. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 (and presumably the 8.9) compares favorably when the competition is pretty much just comprised of other Tegra 2 equipped devices, however things won't be so pretty when the competition is leaving the Galaxy Tab in the dust.
However, who knows what the first Kal-El tablets will look like - they may be shoddy and rushed to market for the Holiday season. I just wish Samsung had used something other than the Tegra 2.

I disagree. Vanilla OS means no DLNA support, no various video codec support. I want TW for nothing but DLNA (AllShare) and various video codecs that my current Samsung Galaxy S phone already supports, including DIVX. Not to mention the email client (with exchange support) Samsung was able to pack into the Galaxy S phones is 1000% better than Google ever shipped.

I recently saw the article for the gtab 7 plus coming to tmobile on androidcentral. I was thinking if it would be a good idea to get rid of my gtab 10 for the 7 plus. I really miss the fact that with the old gtab I was able to take anywhere in my pocket. the 10 is a pain to carry around and plus it will be 3g so I will be able to pop my sim in and use data without having to tether. also the specs are very similar to the 10. does anyone else think its a good idea?

Can't see any reason to get the Tab 7+ over the Tab 7.7 - the 7.7 has a far better screen, a faster CPU and is thinner and ever-so-slightly lighter.
Really can't see why Samsung bothered producing the 7+ at all.
thanks for the info the tab 7.7 is much better than 7 plus. now to see if it will fit in my pocket
Well, it's dimensions are very similar to the 7+ - it's about 1cm wider but it's a couple of mm thinner.
The original Tab was 190.1 x 120.5 x 12 mm
The Tab 7+ is 193.7 x 122.4 x 9.9 mm
And the Tab 7.7 is 196.7 x 133 x 7.9 mm
then it should fit. I like the 10 but its not very comfterable to carry around

Faster CPU, 64GB option, thinner, lighter, bigger battery, bigger better higher resolution display in nearly the same dimensions. I'm with you, I have no idea why Samsung even bothered with this one, virtually no advantage to the 7 Plus over the 7.7. I know this thread is a little old but at least for people searching let me add here that the galaxy tab 7 plus has one big advantage. It was unveiled to the public to have the exynos processor instead of the tegra 2. In other words its significantly faster and smoother with better gaming capabilities.
There's that and it is sold in the US. The 7.7 will not be sold in the US.

Totally disagree. Waiting for a device that is not even scheduled for a release and 0.2 GHz faster makes no sense. SAMOLED would be maybe a reason but who knows if the first generation of larger SAMOLED is really what i want.
I prefered the GSII over the upcoming Nexus Prime because I am sick of being the guinea pig for Samsung and Google. The Nexus S was crap upon relase so I don't want to try neither a first generation Tablet with SAMOLED nor a ICS device that is buggy.

Hi, I am actualy an owner of first galaxy tab 7 version and I am considering the change to a newer one. I have in mind 2 or 3 options and I guess someone helps me with my decision. I dont want a 10" one because is too big for me. I am considering the 7.7 the p6210 and the 8.9" one. I dont care much for 3g as I can tether from my phone. I see the 8.9 comes with a tegra 2, is the procesor better than the 7.7? what about the p6210?
As I have been reading, the 7.7 is the only one that uses super amoled and I guess is better than normal tft...
Any help?
I would like to have a thin and light tablet, dont care too much of watching movies, and if possible officially upgradable to ICS, not SOD too.
Thabks in advance.
The best thing to do is to go try them out in a shop. Having said that, I'm guessing that if you liked the old tab and found the 10.1 too big, you will probably prefer the 7.7 over the 8.9. The 8.9, as far as I can recall, has the same internals as the 10.1. The 7.7 is only marginally larger than the old 7, has a faster processor than all of the other galaxy tabs, and is the lightest too. And has the best screen.

Depending on your needs, the chipset on the 7.7 might prove to be faster but the tegra 2 is no slouch either.
The screen on the 7.7 is a bit of a lottery as with all SAMOLED based screens produced after the Galaxy S. If you compare both side by side, depending on your preferences you might find the 8.9 to show a more natural color tone, better white brightness and an over all uniform screen color, the PLS screen is very decent. The SAMOLED plus gets better black levels though and more saturated colors.. still all in all a preference thing.
If they had a Tab 7.7 with the very same form factor and weight but with PLS screen id get that one instead.
and what about the p6200? looks like a little brother of the p6810 and bigger than p1000... is dual core too, and a little bit resolution, any one know something about this one? Nobody in spain knows anything about this!
The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Its been out for a while in my place and its also a good choice if you dont want SAMOLED.. its a tad bit heavier than the 7.7 but noticeably thicker. It also has the Mali-400 GPU and Exynos chipset at 1.2Ghz.
I kinda dislike text quality on it as I kinda see something that looks like interlacing going on with the text.
i am serioulsy the p6200/p6210 but I have been reading the xda forum and have seen that almost everyboy has the SOD problem and Samsung has said nothing yet...
As I can see, the more stable one right now is the 8.9" one... Despite of the weight and not as thin as the others... Not amoled too.
7.7 is my choice of tab, superior screen to my 7+ I wouldn't go any bigger than the 7.7 as it would be too uncomfortable to hold in my opinion. 7.7 screen is so much clearer and better in the sun. I find my 7+ a bit hard to see sometimes.

I dont know how wide spread the random SOD is but it happens to my note and as well as others using full stock.
Despite the screen possible screen issues, im still getting the 7.7 though.. since you came from the original P1000 I think the P6800 is a better upgrade.. just make sure you buy locally incase you need to return/exchange it.
ouch! this.does not sound good. Anyone knows if its hardware or software? Hope Samsung will.fix it...

I'm very happy with mine so far.
To add a bit to my earlier post. I think a really important factor is how you intend to use the device.
The old 7, 7.0+ and the 7.7 can be comfortably used with one hand for a somewhat extended period of time. (I do that with my 7.7 on the commute, often *standing* in public transit.) The fact that the 7.7 is the lightest device (335g) in this group is a very big plus for me.
From what I can see, the 10.1 (as with the iPads) is more comfortably used with both hands, or in a lap. While the 8.9 might be smaller and lighter, it is still closer to the 10.1 in this respect than the various 7s.
More than anything else, it was my expected usage pattern that determined that I would get the 7.7. Conversely, my current satisfaction or happiness with the device has a lot to do with this usage pattern.

As I can see, the more stable one right now is the 8.9" one... Despite of the weight and not as thin as the others... Not amoled too.

I've had the GTab 7+ since November nad have never experienced SOD. Rooted an CWM. Fine tab and price has dropped to about $350US. No issues reading but as with all 7" webpages can be a chore...depending on the site really and not the tablet. Very smooth tab. The Xynos (spelling?) processor is MUCH better than the Tegra2 IMO. Great battery life, excellent screen (for not being SMOLED). On track for ICS according to Samsung. The fact the 8.9 doesn't have uSD broke that deal for me where the GTab 7+ does have uSD and IR for TV's, stereos, etc.
That said, I am lusting after the 7.7! Or waiting to see if the GTab 8.3 specs out well.
I havent gotten the 7.7 yet and now rumors of an 8.3!!

I know. Samsung cannibalizing on its own devices it would seem. And also releasing in March, a dual core Tab 2? Geez.
i got it
I fanally got the 7.7, hope it goes well!!
Since they just announced the pre-order and release date for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 I decided to take my regular 10.1 back, since i'm still within my 30 day return period.
Really excited for the new one with all the upgrades. Having a SD card slot, 2 speakers on the front of the Tab and adding IR so I can control my home theater components, and getting official ICS on it. I can't wait.
Pre-order May 7th, release date on the 22nd.
Swyped from my Samsung Epic 4g Touch with a bite of VeNuM.

It's actually a downgrade, not an upgrade. It's thicker and heavier which means that either the components were changed or the design has been changed to make it cheaper to build. There's no flash on the camera either. It's got an OMAP chip vs. Teg2 so it's pretty much a lateral move but I'm sure the OMAP will be better at local video playback (anything would). The SD card's a benefit but ICS is a wash since the orignal G-Tab will get it (eventually) too. The 8GB is supposed to be $399 while the 16GB will be $449 so it's still no bargain.

That's what I'm waiting for. I love my 3G Tab and the only thing that (for me) needs improvement is a more powerful processor. For taking notes and such at work the S-Pen's also a cool and practical feature. It's been delayed until June so Samsung can put a new quad-core Exynos SoC in and I'm hoping they bump up the display resolution while they're at it.
I'm in a similar predicament. I want to get the Galaxy tab but now with Tab 2 launching i'm not sure if it's a wise decision. I feel like I will have buyers remorse if I buy the Galaxy tab 2 just because it has older components and a step backwards. Galaxy Note 10.1 won't arrive till June if its not pushed back (high possibility of delays). The Transformer Prime was another Tablet I was looking at but with the wifi and gps issues not too sure about Asus. So now sadly, I may look at the new iPad. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

You can pre-order both the Acer A510 and new non-Prime Transformer (TF300) that has a plastic back cover and shouldn't have wireless issues. They're $449 and $399 respectively with the Acer being the more upscale of the two. Asus' build quality and QC have been sketchy and I haven't really followed Acer to offer any opinion. Costco's got some good deals on the G-Tab 1 and a ninety day return policy which should fall in to the launch timeframe for the Note.
Yeah in a lot of ways, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a DOWNGRADE over the original GT 10.1. The SD card slot is nice, but when you think about it, you can just get a 32 GB Tab 10.1 and be fine. I like the new placement of the speakers, but that's about it. Front facing camera is only VGA. No flash for the rear camera. Thicker and cheaper build quality. Same PLS screen, same res, same processor speed. The original 10.1 with the Tegra 2 would be better for gaming, while the OMAP should be better for HD vid watching. Although I have to say, if you encode a 720p file properly, it looks great on the Tab and plays really well. You don't need to play 1080p on these things.
If I didn't have a tablet right now and was looking to invest 400 dollars for a high-end one, I would honestly wait a few months. I'd wait either for the upgraded Transformer Prime with the higher res. screen and no GPS/WiFI issues, the Acer, the Galaxy Note 10.1, or even whatever quadcore Exynos Tab Samsung is working on at the moment.
Besides all of that, cheaper 7 inch Tegra 3 tablets are coming soon. Now is not a good time to be tablet shopping.
When I looked at the size and weight, and it was almost the same. From what I've read it's the same height and width, only 3 or 4 more ounces. Not a dramatic difference in weight. Hopefully, they kept the same shape and dimensions
so it will fit in my Galaxy Tab Book Cover Case.
I know there was no real upgrade in terms of specs, but, the additions they did make was huge to me. Adding ICS, something the previous Tab will probably not get, and if it does, it will be several months away. I had a ICS rom on mine and it was nice, but, lacking in some areas of true ICS. I like the speakers on the front at the top and bottom better than on the sides. It should make a huge difference when watching movies or listening to music. You can thank the German courts for this and Apple. Throw in the fact they added a space for SD card storage to expand, IR capabilities, will be great controlling my Home Theater components and it's a winner to me at the $399 price tag.
If it was higher than that, I would say no, but, at this price point, it's nice.

Sadly, I think you are right. I will have to be patient and wait and see what happens next. I guess with Google IO coming up soon the emphasis will be completely on JellyBean and ICS will be obsolete already by the time summer comes around.

The original Tab 10.1 is getting ICS. Samsung have confirmed it at several different points in time. WHEN will we get it, that's another story, but it's coming. It's being worked on. They even said that it was number 2 on the their priority list, right behind the GS II which has already started it's ICS rollout globally. It can't be that far away
So if you factor out ICS as an advantage (which you should), the only two things the Tab 2 has over the Tab 1 are the modified speaker positions and debatably the microSD storage (I say that because the storage sizes are halved on the Tab 2). Everything else that's different on the Tab 2 is a disadvantage.
Sorry to say, but it's the truth. And that 399 price point doesn't make it any easier to swallow, especially when you consider that if you can be patient for another couple of months, you'll have a huge selection of Tegra 3 tablets at all different sizes, all different price points, made by different companies.
Believe me, I'm not hating here. I got my Tab 10.1 last July and I absolutely love it. But right now, if 300 or 400 is my sweet spot for a tablet, I'm holding off for a couple of months. The Tab 2 isn't worth that.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH...wow!!! effing samsung..
screw this..selling it and getting the asus prime
I would also hold off for the note 10.1... Better hardware AND the s-pen will give it functionality that no other tab has. I have tried the regular note (5.3) and the pen works very well, very cool to jot down stuff quickly or to add comments/notes to documents.
Now they are saying they halted production of the Tab 2 for some upgrades. One of them being a quad core processor with their latest chip.

I bet they are having problems they will have a even bigger one if they don't get there arses into first gear people will migrate to other tablets. This is just another sorry excuse to buy some more time which they dont have and now where does this leave those of us waiting for ic4.0 to come to 10.1 user?

I read that also... it definitely has me wondering if this will delay us OG Tab owners from getting the ICS update in May. I have no doubt that the appeal of ICS is a selling point for Samsung and potential Tab-2 customers might settle for the original tab if it gets ICS prior to the release of the Tab-2.

I'm keeping my 10.1 4G, which it bought used for less than $300. I'll probably still get the GT 2 7.0 for $250 though, since it's wifi only.
Hello I'm intrigued by the S Pen, I'm just wondering if those of you with the 10" tablet are able to comfortably draw and sketch on it? I don't really want to have to wait until Q2 for the Note 8. I do like the smaller form factor though. I had an iPad for a while and sold it because it was too heavy and bulky. I had a Nexus 7 and liked it much better. I just want to get the input from you owners. Does the note 10.1 feel heavy and bulky to you? I'm trying to figure out if the 8.0 would have enough room to draw on, I think it would though. I messed around with the 10 today at BB today and was surprised how nice the software was and how accurate the pen was. What should I do? Thanks.
It feels fine to me but I'm a big guy with big hands I had 7" tablets before and if drawing is what u going to do get the 10.1

Thanks. Im a big guy too, just withh average sized hands haha. I just wish Samsung would release a price on the 8.0 because that is a factor considering I have another tablet I've paid for. The problem I used to have with my iPad is my arms and neck would start hurting after a while, but I was attempting to play a lot of games on it, I think drawing on a table wit the note 10 would be much easier.
After using my note 10.1, my galaxy tab 2 7.0 seems absolutely puny now. I tried drawing on my note 2, and it's a touch too small. I would say go with the note 10. It's a little more useful, and you have a n7 for portability.
Yeah I feel the same way use to use my gf nexus 7 and think wow th his is big by comparison to my gs3 note with my note I feel like I can use the n7 as a phone by comparison to my note 10.1. Its a bit big at first but you will get use to it, it comes down to personal preference really what feels good in your hands

I think the Galaxy Note 10.1 is too small sometimes (when I multiwindow, for instance) so I'd imagine the 8 would have that feeling amplified..

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to wait and see about the note 8. 0 but idk. I heard the note 8 has a TFT display which typically doesn't have good viewing angles, but thats hinting at it being more of a budget tablet. So I'm not sure. I can get a note 10.1 off ebay for under $400 so price isn't a big deal I guess.

I had the tab 7.7 and LOVED it...why they dropped amoled on the 8 is a mystery to me, and very disappointing. Im 6'3" and 165 lbs. My hands are plenty big, and I STILL fin myself having to move them while holding the 10.1 in both hands....if I DIDNT use it for drawing, id get a smaller tablet.

Problem with high def screens and amoled is power consumption. Lots more pixels to power up seems to be more efficient to use tft at that point in size.

Thanks, your comment really reminds me Why I don't like 10inch tablets. I remember the iPad 4 I had was absolutely beautiful screen and had excellent performance, but that wasn't enough to make me keep it. It was very tiring using it more than a few minutes at a time. I've seen some of the amazing drawings people have created on the Gnote 2, so I don't think 8 inches would be too small at all because I'm typically a small drawer anyway. I am going to wait it out I guess, and at least hear the pricing for the Gnote8, couldn't be too long hopefully.
Also when I said it has a TFT LCD, I was thinking TN display which is horrible so that not a big concern at all. If its around $300 I will be getting the note 8.0
Get the samsung ativ smart pc, its 11.6" with s-pen, dockable keyboard like transformer and windows RT or windows 8 depending on how much you pay.
Otherwise, the 10.1 is a good size for drawing, havent tried the 8 yet.honestly for me,sometimes the 10.1 is a little small taking notes in class. But it may not be the case for everyone

Couple things to keep in mind when comparing the two:
1) Though both have the same resolution, the screen will be significantly sharper on the Note 8.0 due to an increase in PPI of about 40.
2) This means crisper webfonts which was always the big knock on the Note 10.1 - web text has the jaggies.
3) There is a significant difference in writing space on an 8 vs a 7 in screen. I've owned 7 inch tablets and the iPad Mini (7.9) seems MUCH larger.
4) In a pinch you can slip an 8 inch tablet into a front pants pocket. With the Note 10.1 you are committed to carrying it.
5) Timing. The closer we get to release of the Note 8.0, especially if the price of the wifi version comes in under $350, demand for the Note 10.1 is going to plummet. We have already seen Bestbuy cut their price by $50. Expect that to go lower. If you can wait you may be able to pick up a Note 10.1 for $399 brand new. Also Craigslist and eBay will be full of Note 10.1 owners selling their almost new tablets at big discounts to buy a Note 8.0.
6) While the Note 10.1 has been a sort of meh seller, I expect the Note 8.0 to be wildly popular (unless they price it too high). Also the higher ppi will be a big deal. That means more Dev support. Good thing.

Thanks, I agree with everything you said. I forgot the poi is only 149 on the Gnote10.1. I don't want fuzzy text! I think you could make the argument that one reason Samsung has not yet announced pricing for the Note 8.0 is that the wifi version will be $299 and they don't want to utterly destroy Note 10.1 sales between now and the day they release. Just for reference the Note 8.0 will be about as wide as the Note 2 is in landscape. So, if you have ever tried writing on the Note 2 in landscape you will know it is plenty wide.
Note 8.0. Thinner, lighter, more transportable, crisper screen yet still wide enough to write on in portrait. The perfect device IMHO. Only problem will be actually getting one. We'll be lucky to see a USA release before June. Europe always gets Samsung stuff first and they won't get theirs until 2nd quarter.
